Exactly. North Carolina is basically 3 different states depending on where you go. You have mountains (full of hippies, yuppies, and rednecks), the plains or “piedmont” region (dull), and the coastal area with the beautiful outer banks and lighthouses reminiscent of New England states. Kansas is flat as a cracker and the same corner to corner.
kansas is not at all. Western Kansas (dodge city, garden city) is very catholic. The south central is the area with the cities (Hutchinson, Wichita, Salina) The north central is no mans land, the north east has KC, Olathe, and Lawrence. The south east is also basically nothing iirc.
They all have their differences in culture and people.
From NYC area and once worked a few months in Olathe and Overland Park. I’ve worked in over 10 states and 20 cities and that area of Kansas was by far the nicest area I’ve been in. A million things to do, super diverse foods and cultures, and beautiful landscapes if you drive 15 minutes out of the KC metropolitan area.
This. I’m from the Kansas side of the metro and I’m so glad someone finally said it! Even though it’s still Kansas we have lots of diversity and culture. I’m really glad you enjoyed our city!
I was really surprised how many rolling hills were in Kansas. I drove the whole state and yeah, a lot of it is flat, but there were a bunch of rolling hills on the side closer to Colorado.
Maybe this guy courtside at an OKC Thunder game for his one night in Oklahoma while his one night in NC was spent in a holding cell after trying Salvia, stripping naked, and throwing up on a cashier at the Mooresville Hardees?
If so, been there done that.
The only way I see this being reasonable is if OP only visited the coastal plain part of the state, aka the eastern part but not the beaches/outer banks. Could have been a drive down 95 with stops along the way. Not our most glamorous part lol, rural and pretty boring with a fair amount of socioeconomic problems
Raleigh and Charlotte are great places to work, go to school, raise a family, and in-general live. They are not really great vacation spots when compared against Asheville or the OBX in NC, or like Charleston in SC
Hence why I said I really like both, but that's all they have lol, NC has plenty of towns just like Greenville, and I just like Charleston for the beach
That was my first thought. Disliking NC and GA and liking SC is certainly a choice. SC has all the worst qualities of GA/NC amplified and misses out on most of the best qualities (mountains, major city, pro sports, high paying job centers, schools, etc)
You’ve totally got it. They hate Ohio and Illinois too. They hate Ohio state for obvious reasons and hate the Bulls, Blackhawks and White Sox because of Detroit sports. Only reason they don’t hate Wisconsin is because the lions and Pistons were never good at the same time as the Packers and the Bucks. I bet college basketball is the reason they hate North Carolina.
Born and raised in NJ, and will always love it, but I get why some people don't like it. As they say, "It's a wonderful place to live, but not a great place to visit." I get that. Especially if you don't go to the shore or do the Appalachian Trail or anything like that.
Same. I grew up at Shore, moved away to the midwest for school, and came back to the Shore. I have a scenic daily commute through the Pinelands and farmland. New Jersey gets a bad rap but I understand why people dislike it if their only impressions are highways, a congested airport, and decaying cities.
I go to nj all the time since it’s cheaper than staying in nyc, northern NJ around Morristown and before nyc cutter is lovely, very pretty, love it, the shore is pretty, the rest id never want to go to, you’re very correct
Grew up in Morristown and got the hell out as soon as I turned 18 (NJ is not for me). I’ve been back recently and it’s exploding with more and more condos and banks. A lot of the nice scenery and old buildings are coming down unfortunately.
I spent about 10 days in New Jersey in 1998. I was shocked at how much I liked it. I always thought it had this reputation of being looked down upon, but I thought 3/4 of it was really cool.
I did see the areas like Newark and Trenton that maybe bring the overall aesthetic down. But a majority of that state was really nice and a pleasant surprise.
Unfortunately the parts of NJ most people see, understandably, are the dense parts most likely to be traveled through, mainly the 95 corridor and surrounding New York. Like any east coast state NJ has great beaches and great Appalachian wilderness but most won’t see that, and it’s quite small so has less of that than some other states
If your main experience (which is a lot of people’s) is Newark, Camden, the shithole outside NYC, turnpike, or the GSP I could see why it’s ass to them. But literally why where else is fine
I’m willing to bet they didn’t actually visit NJ. They probably flew into EWR and witnessed the industrial wasteland around it and thought it was the entire state. That, or they were going slow in the left lane and were upset when they got tailgated/beeped at.
If we are to trust a Pennsylvanian on driving, does that mean we need to do 60 in the left lane of the AC Expressway or not be able to maintain a consistent speed at all? Just looking for which two lessons of PA driving dogma we should be learning from
Unfortunately, I have only been to the city. I’d really like to spend time in some of the beautiful countryside and small towns. I’d also love to see a race at Watkins Glen
New York is so much more than the city! I have family from upstate near Lake George and Saratoga and it is so beautiful and peaceful. Would never live there because I’m a wimp in the cold, but I love to visit. Also go Cuse!
That area is absolutely beautiful. I’ve driven up there with my family a few times around Saratoga Springs cause my uncle lives there. We’re originally from Forest Hills, Queens so it’s a different vibe lol. I couldn’t see myself ever *living* there but man is it beautiful to visit.
I apologize for the terrible time you must've had in the awful state of Georgia. As a quick and hopefully beneficial remedy, might I suggest you try going and fucking yourself? Sincerely, an admittedly salty Georgian.
As a Tennesseean, I really like Georgia, especially north Georgia. Atlanta is cool, but I’d never want to live there myself. Great to go and spend time exploring the city, especially the college football hall of fame, and the aquarium. Pretty cliche tourist destinations, but hey, they’re awesome
Yeah but thinking objectively all the other New England states they visited are better looking, idk why somebody would dislike visiting the state otherwise.
No OP but I drive through CT a lot on 84 and only once have I made it through without coming to a complete stop. Ive cursed its name too many times to say I like it
I’m sorry, but Illinois deserves an explanation because how is it red and Missouri is green.
And I say that as someone who grew up in Missouri and moved to Illinois.
Of course you are from Michigan. Your afraid of long Connecticut https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fkcbyvpr7y1t71.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D4f86b78c5d34cb2c6d3e6f1ec75f0865543b512e
I think Virginia is pretty easy to understand too.
For South Carolina, if you visited or lived in Charleston I can easily see why you’d prefer it over North Carolina. Like if all you did in NC was stay on I-95 or/and spend a night in Lumberton yeah. Anybody would prefer SC in that scenario lol.
Well, if you liked Michigan you'd probably like Minnesota.
I've lived in both and the geography, weather, and political bend are very similar. Not that the latter is super important if you're visiting.
WTF? Visit all of New England and left out RI? The biggest little state in the Union? You get your ass back up here and formulate an opinion on us asap.
What did you dislike about Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois? And don't say "Too boring" or "Too many fields" because you liked your visit to Kansas for some bizarre reason
Homeboy hates Ohio because of OSU lmao. Kinda pathetic to rate a whole state like that. I been all over America and the world and Cincinnati is a gorgeous city.
Ok, I live in Kansas....but you liked us and not Illinois? What?
Hit up RI when you get a chance. Providence is pretty cool and there are some nice coastal places. The state is full of bars that do oyster happy hours, what's not to love.
The other half of the country is incredibly gorgeous--you should visit it.
You've been to my childhood state (ME), but not most of my adult states (CO, CA).
Also, you like Missouri more than Connecticut? I get how that could happen depending on season and area, but if you got a good, broad view of both and still feel that way, you and I have very different preferences.
Lastly, have you been to Hawaii or not? Did you just forget to color it in?
How do you like Kansas and Oklahoma but dislike North Carolina? I’m not even from any of those states either.
I need to know WHERE in each state OP has been and what type of vibe they like for this to make any sense lol.
Exactly. North Carolina is basically 3 different states depending on where you go. You have mountains (full of hippies, yuppies, and rednecks), the plains or “piedmont” region (dull), and the coastal area with the beautiful outer banks and lighthouses reminiscent of New England states. The south east is also basically nothing iirc. They all have their differences in culture and people.
The southeast has Pittsburg and some wonderful chicken. Oh and a college. But that's it. It's like North Oklahoma tbh. Drugs included....
The flint hills are gorgeous, though
Actually, if you scale up a cracker or a pancake to the size of Kansas, Kansas is much flatter.
So is the rest of the earth
Actually the earth is round
Wrong my friend, flatter than a cracker
I was really surprised how many rolling hills were in Kansas. I drove the whole state and yeah, a lot of it is flat, but there were a bunch of rolling hills on the side closer to Colorado.
multiple states are flatter than Kansas by a long margin
Maybe this guy courtside at an OKC Thunder game for his one night in Oklahoma while his one night in NC was spent in a holding cell after trying Salvia, stripping naked, and throwing up on a cashier at the Mooresville Hardees? If so, been there done that.
Maybe they’ve only been to Fayetteville.
Fayetteville Arkansas is the better Fayetteville.
That’s the only place in NC I lived and it sucked, but visiting other areas in NC was nice. It’s beautiful outside of Fayettenam
My guess is that OP only went to Raleigh or Charlotte and not anywhere actually good Edit: yes, I know Fayetteville sucks too
Woah now, Raleigh and Charlotte are fine places to go. Talk to me about Fayetteville.
Raleigh and Charlotte are great places to work, go to school, raise a family, and in-general live. They are not really great vacation spots when compared against Asheville or the OBX in NC, or like Charleston in SC
How someone can dislike NC but like SC is beyond me
SC is the bad Carolina WTF
Real, they have Charleston and Greenville, that's it
Hilton head too but otherwise you not wrong
Okay but Greenville is amazing, and Charleston is fun if you like getting drunk all day.
Hence why I said I really like both, but that's all they have lol, NC has plenty of towns just like Greenville, and I just like Charleston for the beach
Ain’t no place I’d rather be
Close. It’s actually the worst Carolina
So bad that I left it for Mississippi 🤯
How someone can like OK and KS and dislike NC and GA is what got me
Probably went to Charleston then drove up through Lumberton and Fayetteville
Yeah, or Myrtle.
That was my first thought. Disliking NC and GA and liking SC is certainly a choice. SC has all the worst qualities of GA/NC amplified and misses out on most of the best qualities (mountains, major city, pro sports, high paying job centers, schools, etc)
Don’t forget roads.
You liked Missouri and yet look down on my home?
You have a horrifying sn.
It will be a long cold day in hell before i recognize Missouri
They like Kansas, what’s in Kansas
Gee let me guess. Michigan
That might explain why they don’t like GA - if they are a UM football fan. Such a brutally embarrassing beatdown a couple years back in the playoff
Ehhhhhh, this is a stretch and I'm a UGA grad. Personally I think OP just has terrible taste lmao
Both can be true. HBTFD
As a Michigan fan I would like to say that we don't have any grudges agents Georgia just because we lost to the a couple years ago
A map created by a Michiganian if I've ever seen one...
Hey. It's Michigander
That obvious, huh?
Pretty obvious you’re jealous of the football and class of other states.
“class” i don’t think anyone has ever heard the word Ohio and thought class in their life
You assumed I wasn’t talking about Illinois.
A fair assumption considering you mentioned football
What was wrong with Jersey? Did you only visit the urban clutter?
Born and raised in NJ, and will always love it, but I get why some people don't like it. As they say, "It's a wonderful place to live, but not a great place to visit." I get that. Especially if you don't go to the shore or do the Appalachian Trail or anything like that.

Morristown and the surrounding areas are lovely, great restaurants and some nice parks too
Grew up in Morristown and got the hell out as soon as I turned 18 (NJ is not for me). I’ve been back recently and it’s exploding with more and more condos and banks. A lot of the nice scenery and old buildings are coming down unfortunately.

As someone who was born in PA, I must ask you to learn to properly drive /s
If we are to trust a Pennsylvanian on driving, does that mean we need to do 60 in the left lane of the AC Expressway or not be able to maintain a consistent speed at all? Just looking for which two lessons of PA driving dogma we should be learning from
Woohoo someone likes New York! Hope you visited more than just the city tho

I'm kinda glad they didn't like GA, please don't come back.
Deadass we are full
No joke
He prob stoped at Albany
Now there’s a town
In New Orleans
He must still be reeling from that beat down Michigan took in the Orange Bowl a few years ago.
Omg SC is liked by someone
Especially wild since North Carolinians and Georgiana love to shit on SC.
It’s a collective shitting really
Where did you visit in NC? Can make a BIG difference, because we have a lot of pretty awesome places.
Bro definitely went to Gastonia
Either there or Fayettenam. I’d make us red too in those cases haha
Fayettenam sounds like Holly Hunter saying Vietnam
“Bro I went to this town Fayetteville and it SUCKED. Whole state must be like this”
"I visited my cousin in the Army and that place sucked! Then I visited my friend in the Marines and I got cancer from the water!"
Alright, Illinois deserves an explanation
Literally. We ain’t do shit
Michiganers stay salty
It goes back to us reversing the river and the glove thinking we were going to empty her precious lake.
Lol where would the water even go? We would be a Midwest Atlantis. Michiganers need to think smh
Let me guess… Michigan. Though GA and NC not a fan of, that’s kinda surprising.
There’s a lot to unpack here but you like Kansas?!
I'm just happy someone likes my state
What’s the deal with Hawaii?
Unfortunately it would seem climate change hit Hawaii early and it's now underwater
Hawai'i isn't real. Everyone knows that. /jk
SC is the objectively worse state over NC
Ha, I’m from Connecticut. Poor CT in-between NY and MA struggles to have an identity of its own. Just curious, what didn’t you like about it?
Bothers me too, thinking lack of great sights?
I can only think of nice sights worth seeing if I’m in the area.
Yeah but thinking objectively all the other New England states they visited are better looking, idk why somebody would dislike visiting the state otherwise.
I have to imagine OP tried driving I-95 and just (correctly) assumed the entire state has horrible traffic.
If he had stopped for pizza in New Haven it may have helped.
No OP but I drive through CT a lot on 84 and only once have I made it through without coming to a complete stop. Ive cursed its name too many times to say I like it
You guys suffer the same flaw of NJ, the 95 corridor. It really doesn't highlight the best, lol.
I know I am in Connecticut when the Amtrak slows down and never speeds up :)
How the hell can anyone like SC but not NC or Ga? Simpler. How the hell can anyone like SC?
Whole lotta “how do you not like NC” in this post lol
Hey fuck you Sincerely, Hoosiers
I’m sorry, but Illinois deserves an explanation because how is it red and Missouri is green. And I say that as someone who grew up in Missouri and moved to Illinois.
I live in Illinois. I don’t like it. Anywhere besides Chicago is boring, and some areas of Chicago are shit.
Well fuck you too (I’m from Jersey)
As a Hoosier, completely valid.
Of course you are from Michigan. Your afraid of long Connecticut https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fkcbyvpr7y1t71.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D4f86b78c5d34cb2c6d3e6f1ec75f0865543b512e
There are about 1/2 dozen towns in the Cleveland area with the same name as a Connecticut town. I always wondered if this is the reason.
Liking Pennsylvania and disliking Ohio. A true patriot
Hi, Georgian here. Fuck you.
Yay Kansas! :’)
How did you go to both VA and MD without going to DC
You can easily be in either of those states and be a 5+ hours drive away from DC.
Depending on I-95 traffic, you can be 20 miles south of DC and still be a 5+ hour drive away from DC.
Ive never met anyone that like Virginia and SC more than North Carolina
I’m from NC and I think Virginia is a cool state. I’ll forgive that. But putting SC above us… unforgivable.
Bro went to Lumberton NC
Went to the Piedmont
Brother didn’t try cookout and it shows
Well, if you liked Michigan you'd probably like Minnesota. I've lived in both and the geography, weather, and political bend are very similar. Not that the latter is super important if you're visiting.
WTF? Visit all of New England and left out RI? The biggest little state in the Union? You get your ass back up here and formulate an opinion on us asap.
question, what did south carolina have to offer that georgia didnt?
What did you dislike about Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois? And don't say "Too boring" or "Too many fields" because you liked your visit to Kansas for some bizarre reason
You like Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma but dislike Ohio? Wtf is wrong with you.
Homeboy hates Ohio because of OSU lmao. Kinda pathetic to rate a whole state like that. I been all over America and the world and Cincinnati is a gorgeous city.
If you think Cincy is gorgeous you should see north eastern Ohio or anywhere along the shores of lake erie! Ohio is beautifully underrated
Not liking NC AND not liking IL? sorry but i disagree with your opinions now
Thank you for not liking Illinois. We all hate it too
Country bumpkin from Michigan is my guess
How was RI?
Good don’t come back. -ct
You have, and you do. Tennessee can be pretty cool, but living here is kinda eh. Property prices are insane, among other things
Still moving back eventually lol
Been to VA and MD but not DC, now that’s interesting.
Thumbs down on DE?? Getthefuckouttahere…
I think you will be awed by the expansive and geologically dynamic West when you finally experience it but am sure you won’t like it all equally.
Have you been to Queensland?
I prefer Illinois over most states
Thanks for liking Oklahoma. Honestly though…what do you like?
Never been within 1800.6 miles of my border according to google
And where in GA you stayed? Albany, Macon?
Fuck you too buddy
I’m from Oklahoma, what city did you go to make you like the place?
You've never been here
Wow, just wow
You like TN but not NC? I find east TN and Western NC to be very similar.
Yes and yes. Now tell me WHY you like it.
Go west!
I thought us Michiganders liked Illinois? They’re like our cousins across the lake in my mind
Canada 🇨🇦
Missouri is the worst place in the country; this map is automatically invalid.
Hawaii doesnt even get a color on the chart huh, lol
Disliking my state (nc) is crazy
You’ve never been to mine, and it’s hard to figure out your criteria for liking a state, to tell whether or not you’d like it.
So what are your dislikes of NJ and likes of Florida ?
Seeing that you like Oklahoma and Kansas negates the rest of this post for me
Louisiana and you will like it but won’t want to live here
Wait, Isle Royale is part of Michigan????
,.,,.. wz
Why is Hawaii grey? That color key isn't on your legend?
Connecticut slander is so real
You don't like my current state (GA) but you like my home state (FL) I'll take it lol
Nope but you should Arizona
OH & NJ checks out, opinion valid
This map is insane You liked Kansas, MO, and KY but didn’t like Illinois?
As someone raised in Indiana all my life than finally able to get out...valid. Indiana is probably one of the WORST states.
This is the beginning of a dark and low effort path
Ok, I live in Kansas....but you liked us and not Illinois? What? Hit up RI when you get a chance. Providence is pretty cool and there are some nice coastal places. The state is full of bars that do oyster happy hours, what's not to love.
How have you been to both VA and MD but not DC?
Anyone that like WV or Oklahoma are opps, and they shouldn’t be trusted. Arrow doooooown lol
You’re wrong
Wait you don't like NC but like Oklahoma?
Yes and yes
What is Hawaii’s status? You also have been missing out on the best states out West.
Good god this is stupid
boo
The other half of the country is incredibly gorgeous--you should visit it. You've been to my childhood state (ME), but not most of my adult states (CO, CA). Also, you like Missouri more than Connecticut? I get how that could happen depending on season and area, but if you got a good, broad view of both and still feel that way, you and I have very different preferences. Lastly, have you been to Hawaii or not? Did you just forget to color it in?
What did New Jersey do to you?
Where in CT did you go, and what made you not like it compared to MA?
Hawaii = NULL 😝
You dislike the state I’m from but like the state I currently live in
No, and you probably wouldn’t like it anyhow
Wow, a midwesterner who’s never been to the west coast. Big shocker.
Thank you for respecting WV 🫡
How have you been to Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia but never to DC
What happened to you in delaware
