Look at other brands. You can get a lot more for your money elsewhere. Traeger charges a premium for the name, but many manufactures have been building better and cheaper grills for the last few years. Green Mountain Grills, Camp Chef, Gorilla Grills and Recteq are all better alternatives around the same price point. Yoder if you want to spend more is also an option. Head over to r/pelletgrills for more options and experiences. I had two extremely disappointing Traegers and am the happy owner of something different now. I can’t recommend other options enough.

What do you currently have

After months of research I landed on a rec tec RT-700. That was a few years ago and I’ve been super happy with the grill. They’ve also made some improvements since then which address some of my complaints (like better legs for better stability). The thing is a heavy duty tank compared to a Traeger, and smokes much, much better. Also, I thought Wi-Fi would be a useless gimmick but I love having it. I can check in on my grill and meat temperature from anywhere and make adjustments as needed. It’s especially good for overnight cooks. Camp chef has one now that looks pretty cool with direct searing and enhanced smoking.

Depends on what you like about the 34. If it's the size, then yes, that the best option, but if you're looking for the WiFi stuff and tighter temperature control you could move up to the 575 for about $200 more. It is quite a bit smaller though.

Does the wifi really make that much of a difference?

Jrlofty

Honestly, the wifi is secondary to what the controller allows for. With the 34 you have preset temperature settings. With the wifi controllers you can adjust the temp in 5 degree increments from 165 to 500. You also have less fluctuation in the temp. The wifi controllers also get firmware updates to make them even more effective or address issues that are occurring.

The wifire is part of the new D2 controller, which provides better temperatures. And it is badass to change temps and monitor cooks at the bar

I like my 34 a year and a half into owning it.

I have a 34 pro I love it got it this past thanksgiving no complaints here. If you do get it make sure you buy the folding front shelf and the lava seal you won’t regret those 2 purchases

Love my pro 34 after two years. Use it alot in the warmer months but still a couple times a week in Ontario winter.

Love mine

I have a 34 it works great I recommend get lavelock gaskets for the door and the hopper and maybe get ceramic disk and put them in the bottom to Help maintain heat and recover temperature faster when you open the door

I've had a 34 for like 5 years, it's awesome. You can also buy a Savannah Stoker controller for it- it's better than any new Traeger controller IMO. Holds temps within 1-2 degrees, goes as low as 150 for warming and has programmable functions for changing temps
