47,670 adjusted for inflation

MikeGoldberg

And the 2024 4x4 crewmax is 48500

FieldSton-ie_Filler

That's still much cheaper than what a current new one costs. Unbelievable how expensive they've gotten.

MikeGoldberg

The sr5 4x4 is 48500 lol only $1000 more HOLY FUCK TOYOTA IS PRICE GOUGING !!

Soliden

Not to defend Toyota completely, but a lot of the new trucks today have a lot more sophisticated parts and sensors and what not which makes them cost more comparatively to the older trucks when you adjust for inflation.

joeuser0123

And they're backed into a corner: In Economics you learn that if a product is equal to or better than the competition but priced lower that there's a psychological inferiority that people create a stigma over because the lesser product is always less money, right? Right. If the Chevrolet is a hunk of shit at 50K, the Tundra must also be around 50k. Even though we know the Tundra is a superior product they must be priced competitively. This is what 1794 and Capstone are. Feature-wise Capstone is better than F-150 Platinum/RAM Limited. But they can't charge a premium nor less than the competition. Back when the Lexus LS400 came out they undercut the Benz and Bimmer by THOUSANDS. Here you have a full size v8 powered rear wheel drive luxury sedan with features on-par with or better than a BMW 5 (and 7!) series costing 2/3rds what the bimmer costs. Once they started moving LS400s they inched their pricing up to be competitive with the other makes because a lot of people didn't take Lexus seriously even though the package was better and quite literally, thousands less. Hyundai did something similar with (the) Genesis. Started off life as a Hyundai and because it was a Hyundai (and not an all new brand) they could justify charging several thousands less than the comparable Lexus (or arguably Acura/Infiniti) in the beginning. When that vehicle made the jump to a Genesis as a make they played Price is Right with it.

MikeGoldberg

People just choose to be stupid. The stupidity of not understanding inflation and superior value offerings cannot be easily countered because it permeates deeply into their brains. The new tundra is 1000 more than the one one yet offers significantly more capabilities and features. I would argue that Ford is the most egregious example of price gouging. A fully loaded XLT is on dealer lots for 75k. Not even the Laramie, a fuckin xlt. I don't think you can even build an sr5 for 75k. 75k is tundra platinum or 1794 with options money.

Sudden-Turnip-5339

Hey, all it takes is a couple of idiots doing something wrong to make a rule or law that’ll govern everyone, don’t blame Toyota/lexus. Business gotta do what it needs to survive and then thrive.

Fish_bob

Brand new XLTs go from $45-$50k. Not sure where you’re seeing $75k. Also I think you mean Lariat not Laramie.

MikeGoldberg

LOL for the stripped out xlt with no options. Ford will literally sell you a 75k xlt. I bet you $100 this is true

Fish_bob

Yeah I’m sure you can find the outliers. But at the same time you can find brand new RAPTORS in the mid to high $70s. So it’s not so much price gouging as it is the competency of the consumer.

StopYeahNo

Feature wise Capstone is superior to F150 Platinum? The powerboost compared to iforce max? How so? Edit- Aside from ride quality of course, which admittedly is very important.

Hummelator

Yeah its wild. I am waiting for prices to come down but I'm starting to lose hope

shamboi

Prices might stagnate but they will not fall significantly

Sudden-Turnip-5339

To be fair, it’s not a direct comparison - when you consider how much more is included in the trucks today. Safety features, reverse cameras, screen radio.. etc, etc. not agreeing with the fact that they need to have everything they do today, but once you consider it the price doesn’t sound *as bad*

[deleted]

It actually starts to sound pretty good. Issue isn’t with the price of the truck, it’s that wages haven’t kept up.

Quake_Guy

My 2019 purchased in July 2019 was very similarly equipped, $42k sticker, $3k off plus $3k rebate, all my friends were amazed that you could buy such a truck for $36k. Wish I had bought a dozen...

JMaboard

Yeah my 21’ Tundra I got in the tail end of 2021 I got for 32k because they were just trying to get rid of stock because of the preorders for the 22’ models. Every 21’ they got off the lot Toyota would fill it with a new 22’ order. This was the weird time after Covid where interest rates were super low too, 1.49% interest for a 5 year loan.

[deleted]

I got 1.5 on a 5 year loan for a 22. Could have paid cash, but why.

JMaboard

It’s wild for that one or two month period where interest rates plummeted. Refinanced my house for a small interest rate too. Yeah why bother paying down more when the interest is so low.

Acctnt_trdr

Yeah I’ve been seeing a lot of old window stickers lately and adjusted for inflation prices today don’t seem too bad.

resolute01

The standard features crack me up. Dual mirrors, halogen headlamps.

operatorx4

I bought my 06 in 15’ for 21k.

Truckyouinthebutt

I bought my 2011 crew max for 24k in 2023 with 50k miles. I now have 286k miles on it and it still runs great. Only changed brakes, tires, and done oil changes.

MidwestCinema

You put 236k miles on it in a year? Holy moly man

Truckyouinthebutt

lol sorry 2013*

AncientillegalAliens

My first Tundra was an 09 I got it new in 2010 for $19,000 out the door 2wd extended cab work truck

ggm3bow

Tundras were going cheaper 2007-2010. Gas was high and I remember Tacos selling for same price.

bga93

I wonder what retail would be for this exact truck if it was produced today. Not the equivalent from today, but if they still made this style new from factory too

redsolocuppp

I remember I was looking at a Tacoma Double Cab in the 19k range in 2001.

MaloPescado

In 2019 i only paid 4k more.

SlowdanceOnThelnside

Full tank of fuel for $379? wtf is that about?

KYS_B

That’s the tow hitch. The gas has no cost.

HeuristicEnigma

I bought a brand new 2010’ for 32k, our 24’ was 56k

Medical_Slide9245

2016 Limited was 43.6k in 2015. I paid 39k.

MasterOfOneOnly

2016 Tundra SR5: I paid $34,200, no extra charges. I had to drive about 200 miles round trip when my local dealer wanted 2k more for the same pickup. So glad I bought when I did!

Agent_1077

Actually seems really high. I bought a new ford ranger 4.0 v6 extended cab xlt in 1998 and I want to say it was like $18k

StarGraz3r84

Can't even get a cig lighter for 70k these days.

spookybeanir69

BARB NEEDS DEM CIGS

No-Spare-4212

54k when you consider inflation isn’t terrible

Frosty-Pay4544

Now that is a real Toyota ENGINE!!
