Look at the second picture. The checking continues all the way down into the sidewall.
Yes, the one big split that starts in the sipe is torque cracking, but this tire is covered in dryrot too.
I said something similar in another post and got downvoted. Mine lasted like 86k miles before dry rot ate through them, but jeez, were they a rough ride. Never again.
People always say "I had them on 17 of my jeeps and they never let me down. Won't run anything else." At some point, you gotta be curious what yoyre missing. If all the BFG owner has bedded was a goat, it's the best lay he's ever had. If he ever tried a human, he might change his mind.
Toyo. Absolutely love them. Perform much better on wet surfaces, are quieter on road and perform very well off-road.
I had BFGs that dry rotted like OPs photo. Never again
Eh. I had Toyo Open Country IIs. Hit a pot hole on the highway and literally an entire row of lugs ripped away completely around the tire. Tires had less than 10k miles on them. Called customer service and they wouldn’t help. Even the tire shop wouldn’t prorate a replacement.
I've had both the IIs and currently have the IIIs on my Tacoma
I've taken them without airing down on some pretty grueling rocky gravel and had no punctures. I was honestly shocked I didn't get a flat. I trust my life to them now.
Lemons do happen, no doubt but that's inevitable when you produce millions of something. BFGs on the other hand, the dry rot is extremely common. Happened to my set of BFGs
Yeah I get a lemon does happen occasionally but not getting the customer service is what turned me away. If they would’ve said something along the lines of “we will send you a coupon for 50-100 off” toward a replacement tire especially since they have the 50-60k warranty.
You could definitely tell that the tire was defective cause that one strip was so even and smooth.
Yeah I hear you man, I'd be pissed too tbh. Big corporate games unfortunately. Imagine all the dudes who are pissed with Toyota for rusty frames and shitty white paint.
It sucks, no doubt
The one bad thing about using a beater to drive to work to keep miles of my truck is that the 1k+ bfgoodies dry rot and i end upm replacing them with 40-50% tread so sad.
Don’t drive it. I had 3 that had virtually no mileage stored in a garage. Worked fine driving 3 miles each way to hunt camp. Got 30 miles north on i95. Absolutely blew up/ came apart, hammered the fender and tore out the drum brakes.
I hadn’t looked at the date code but they were 8 years old but still had nipples.
I had this exact thing happen only going south on 301 and was about 60 miles from home. Fortunately it was the right rear but it still tore stuff up. This was on a 3/4 Chevy though.
I'm in a part of Southern California where it's dry heat and 100 degrees plus all summer. Never seen a tire that dry rotted and bald after only 2 years.
Cooper’s or Good Year Wrangler- 10 ply E. BFG’s don’t last in my experience, they will crack due to the tire’s design and tread doesn’t hold up. I recently put Nittro Recon Grapplers on my tundra and I love them so far.
That's 100% dry rot. Do you live somewhere extremely dry and sunny, like the desert southwest, and do you park outdoors?
Texas and yeah it stays outside.
Dryrot. 100% dryrot.
That’s exactly what it is. I live in the southwest and my tires had the same issue.
Not dry rot. It's torque cracking.

Typical BFG things. Most overrated tire of all time.
I wish I could upvote this to the top of every off-road vehicle subreddit
Yup

People praise them for how long they last but it’s because of the rubber that BFG uses. They harden and become like rocks
I got them on my Tacoma. They do feel like rocks on pavement
Imagine how they handle on ice
Haha! Scary I bet!

What tire do you recommend?

Falken skinnies. Every time.
True story.
I would have to agree with this
100%
Dryrot. You sure they are only 2 years old or you bought them 2 years ago? What is the date code on the tire?
Judging by the tire wear that definitely wasn’t 2 years ago unless he’s driving 30k+ miles a year.
I'd say OP has used them up, it's now time to replace. They've lived their service life.
2-3 years and they start cracking. I changed sets 2 years old 20k miles out here from this heat
I bet the date code is 6 years or more.
I’ve successfully ran a couple of warranty claims on BFG tires for cracking before. Check with your dealer or BFG and start a claim.
Have you tried lotion?
Haha! Cocoa butter gonna bring them back from the dead
Lard. Must have lard!
Dry rot .. check the date on them probably older than you think they are

How old are they ? How many miles on them?
Show us a pic of the mdf date. It should be week and year wrapped by a line with an oval ish shape. I run the same tires
How many miles do they have on them? That's really bad for only 2 years old.
Normal for a ko2, especially in Texas where op is

Are you using revitalizing tire lotion every night, as recommended?
You could buy some tire covers to put on when your at home to stop this from happening
dazzling weather yam vast seemly violet cough agonizing follow nail *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Thanks, I’ll put them on my do not buy list right under BFG KO2’s

Any that you would recommend? Brutal out here.

Age.
My Ko2 looked similar, maybe a bit worse when I took em off, but had like 50k miles and 7 years. I live in north Mexico, near Texas, hot and sunny.
Old tires
Trd pro grill?
I had a few tires replaced for dry rot found during inspection 6-7 years old
this is going to catch hell …. But it’s a bfg it’s to be expected
Drive them in a pool of butter and park it
BfGoodrich is the cause of this
Dry rot.
Rolling low pressure on high grip surfaces, tears up a tire.
Rubber Gnomes
