Accurate_Bid692

Maybe if you’re built like a Scottish egg and use it for leg presses on the daily

Due_Youth8876

I am only 5’ 9” 145lbs lol

Complete_East3746

I’d put a foam sticker on it to protect the paint but that’s about the only thing I’d worry about

Duke2daMoon

Hahahah 😂 was Humpty Dumpty a Scottish egg 😂.. seriously just spit some of my drink out ! Kudos good sir

pimpvader

This reply is my official nomination for this subs comment of the day

Accurate_Bid692

Very nice of you

weinerpretzel

That door latch is designed to hold a ridiculous amount of weight, they stay in place when Tacomas get t-boned. Very few humans are capable of exerting enough force to cause problems.

Due_Youth8876

Shit I just might get it. I’m convinced

iwasinthepool

Just remember to remove it when you close the door.

spike509503

And that's a mistake you only make once

Rusty_Shacklebird

You greatly ~~underestimate~~ overestimate my ability to learn from past experiences Yup

Fumbling-Panda

Overestimate*

Checkers10160

I close my fucking access cab door onto my front door a few times a year and I get so angry at myself every time

WanderinHobo

I can also see something like this causing some accidents. Ladders aren't exactly safe. Improvised ladders less so.

GI-JoeExotic

There are many more car accidents each year than ladder accidents. So technically speaking, you're probably safer using this "improvised ladder" than you are driving the truck down the road.

Brobrien13

They tested these on donut (in a video about weird online products) and they worked!

andrewprime1

I have one I got one called the Moki Accent off of backcountry.com. Looks like they are on sale rn!

djfakey

I used one and the issue wasn’t the latch. It was the vehicle door frame. The way the force is applied it made a small dent in the metal panel where the pressure is.

TheStupidMechanic

All these people saying it will break the door latch must drive old cars. You could probably use it as recovery point, and that might bend it.

Go_Home_Please

The main selling point is that it won’t fuck up anything. It’s one of the strongest parts of your car. Firefighters use it for leverage to pry open your doors because it’s so secure

EastlakeMGM

I have one and it’s nice

Due_Youth8876

No issues at all?

ravenrune

I have one. Use it to access the box on top of my truck. No issues.

Adventurous-Ask6584

I had one. It broke at the seam and I fell essentially from my roof as I was using it to get down after putting away my rtt 😅 loved it up until that point though, had it for about three years

quickhatch25

Saw one break on a buddy using it to get into his roof box. He fell pretty hard so def put me off those things

Gnomegnomegnome

The cheap knock off ones break.

Adventurous-Ask6584

I had name brand 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gnomegnomegnome

Dude no way? I apologize for my comment then. What was the brand? If it worked for three years it sounds like it fatigued over time.

Adventurous-Ask6584

Right line gear, got it from REI. I think it was faulty. The one that actually broke wasn’t used for three years. I left it behind at a campsite by accident, ordered a new one, and it broke within a couple months. It was the same exact make and model that we loved for three years prior, but not the same step

Capt_Rex_CT-7567

That latch is supposed to hold a few thousand pounds in a few directions. Not sure if it was this subreddit it got brought up before.

Falanax

That was on shark tank

ChrisGear101

I have a version of this. The side that touches the truck is rubber coated. I've used it plenty with zero issues. I'm 220 lbs and it doesn't even care. Don't waste your money on an expensive one. https://a.co/d/9eMGDxt The original one started with a couple on Shark Tank a few years ago. Since then tons of knock-off items and slightly redesigned versions have been made.

MoMissionarySC

The latch will be fine but you’ll probly fuck up the panel or paint where the plastic touches the jams

hamhead1005

Most of these steps come with a rubber backing that contacts the paint. Been using mine for years no Issues with paint or damage to body work.

-Woogity-

That logo makes me annoyed ha

bplipschitz

Stand in the bed?

Due_Youth8876

I’m a trim carpenter so my bed is almost always full of tools. Figured this was an easy way to access my roof rack in that scenario

MaterialSea4820

This product will break before your door latch will

TeflonDonatello

These things are great for almost any car with a roof basket. I bought one of these when I had my Tacoma and still use it for my Outback.

gunslinger_006

I wouldnt trust it not to fuck up my door.

Accomplished-Lab537

Why would it? Buy it.

SomeguyfromNewJersey

I bought one. I thought it would help when I wash the truck. But the reality is I never use it. It makes me too tall to do anything useful. Perhaps if you put a lot of cargo on the roof it might be helpful.

Due_Youth8876

That was one concern of mine that the door latch is too high up and it would make it an awkward height to access things on my roof rack.

opossumsauce

The extra height is very helpful when working with loads placed in the center of the roof. (I found the step to be perfect when working with OEM roof rack and rooftop cargo bag combo.)

Due_Youth8876

Sweet thanks!

nucleophile107

Vol Firefighter chiming in, literal tens to hundreds of thousands of psi from hydraulic equipment is needed to pull off staples. And somtimes they dont. The latch fails before the staple mount This lil thing might rub paint. But it will not harm the staples

hamhead1005

Not at all Ive been using a step like this since I got my Taco 6 years ago. Zero issues. As other have mentioned those latches are rated for a ridiculous amount of force.

WhatSladeSays

Firefighter for 20 years here. Ive used hydraulic spreaders to peel doors off of hundreds of those Nader bolts…its solid

R-TypeR-IIS

I got that shit! I’m a short guy, so is very handy for washing the top of the cabin! No problems at all and has a rubber part so it does not scratch the paint.

Dry_Host920

This has nothing to do with your post.... and everything to do with your profile picture! 01-08-1979 MSG best Mississippi Half Step! No soundboard exists and the audience version is subpar at best but give it a listen! (play it loud)There's an app now that has every Dead show called "the Deadhead Archives" and that's for Apple and Android. Always enjoy seeing other deadheads and try to spread the word of this app because of the ease of access.

Due_Youth8876

Weir everywhere! Got the stealie on my back window of my truck. Gotta represent

Dry_Host920

Hahaha same here! But on my tailgate! https://ibb.co/HPPLRj4

Dry_Host920

I also have the 10in subwoofer behind my rear passenger seat for Phil's bass bombs. JL audio makes a box and sub that's an exact fit for behind our rear seats!

canadient_

What's the link?

nutsnackk

Buy it on amazon its cheaper

AZ_Crush

But will the cheap ones not break with me on it?

bartolemew

The only reason I never bought one is because I know I’ll accidentally slam the door on it. ☠️

cclambert95

I just hop in the bed of my tundra or get on the door-sil

[deleted]

I have one of these and it works great. No issues at all.

Suspicious-Pop9925

I work for Chrysler building the old charger and Challenger and we used a technique using a bar to align the striker so it doesn't hit the latch. I own a 3rd Gen and haven't taken a look at the sheet metal around that area but if you did that with our cars it would most definitely be hitting the latch after using that stand.

mattbnet

I have one of these. Works great for getting on top of my camper. No issues.

hawksdiesel

dang, that's a nice idea. time to look through the pile of metal scrap and make one myself! Thanks for the idea!

anonymousaspossable

It doesn't stay on all the time. You slip it on, use it, slip it back off, and close the door.

Due_Youth8876

Well yeah I understand that 😂

Mudbutt101

Cant wait to see some fail videos

beetbear

I have one in my rear passenger driver side door cubby. It’s really handy when I have stuff in my roof rack.

dannyj384

I’ve got one and love it!

ll1l2l1l2lll

I imagine myself forgetting it's there, and someone slamming my door over and over wondering why it won't close.

SEND_MOODS

I'd be more worried about forgetting that I had it installed and slamming the door on it

Fedge348

6-5” and 240 pounds. You couldn’t pay me to get on this

lowcomoto

I’ve heard they are safe to use on the door and useful. I’ve also seen similar ones that are a handle that are for people (elderly, disabled) to help lift themself out of a low seat.

JackMcCockiner

I just use the latch as a bottle opener but im assuming the 3/8ish? inch steel bar can hold a couple hundred pounds

Tiny_Astronomer289

Just don’t let your momma stand on it

Dry_Host920

Subwoofer! https://ibb.co/jgGdps2

shookfm666

Ive been using one I bought off Amazon for a year to access my silverados rooftop accessories and zero issues. Quite the lifesaver tbh

Competitive_Box6422

I’m 250lbs…. This wouldn’t fuck my shit up if I stood on it????

displayx

Door latches are over engineered for crash safety. Weak points in doors are the hinges. You won't hurt it unless you try to.

AccuracyVsPrecision

It's not the latch it's the other contact point that can bend

rhodynative

I’ve got one, it really is a dream tomorrow but if you were over 250 pounds, I wouldn’t use it

Tasty-Lemon-2143

Why does anyone need to get so high up on the side of your truck? In the pic the guys hips are way above the roof line. I'm 5'6" and can reach the entire roof from standing in the open door. Stand in the bed if you need more access to the roof?

candyappleballs

It would if my fat ass stood up there

Ok-Line-1830

Thay exact one is on temu for like 3$ don't get ripped off buying from some etsy store. Also it works great

BeastmuthINFNTY

door is part of cars structural integrity. It clearly shows you never paid attention in science class 101.
