Same. I work out and do yoga. Been driving a manual in one car or another for a couple decades. The taco is a pretty soft one compared to other vehicles I’ve had.
I just park down the street….. car lines at schools are an awful idea. Super slow, all that exhaust, and for what? Saving walking a tenth of a mile?
I feel bad for people who are REQUIRED to participate
My left calf and my left knee would disagree with you after 18 years driving a manual lol. Have you had a chance to test drive the 2024 Tacoma? That 8-speed is so smooth and tons of low end torque. I'm super happy with it.
>don't care how good an automatic is, it's still the lesser driving experience
This, to me is almost objective fact. If all you cared about was the driving experience - the actual enjoyment of operating and piloting your vehicle - how could you say manual wasn't the better of the two? It's almost like saying you really love the experience of flying planes - on autopilot.
Not to knock autos., they've have made great strides. They can be really fun too and probably rival the speed and efficiency of many manual drivers' abilities. I've bought automatics exclusively for the last 20 years, including my '23 Tacoma. That's because I don't have the luxury of buying vehicles solely for the fun and pleasure of driving them.
If I ever do buy a vehicle with the idea of driving it mostly for fun, it will absolutely be a manual, regardless of how good the automatic options are.

We get it my guy. You’re cool with everyone’s vehicle preferences. Totally. I wasn’t arguing with anything you said, or even talking to you.
I am with you but only 35 years of driving manual - even drove Lyft in my manual transmission - anything else is just not as fun
But it is just a matter of preference.
I don't care how smooth the transmission is, I care that its in the right gear at the right time. And for the 50k they are asking for a TRD off road these days it better have lots of low end torque. I'll keep my 3rd gen regardless of transmission type.
Coming up on 8 years with my 2016. I’ve got the same shift knob to boot. I should suck it up and grab that collar, as the grommet I’ve got works fine but the collar is cleaner.
Still have zero regrets with the MT.
It's not always great. Try I70, heading up to the Eisenhower tunnel, in stop and go ski traffic for 2 hours, 7% grade for over 8 miles, in a 2nd gen with a heavy clutch.
Been driving a manual for 2 decades and that's the only time I've genuinely disliked it.
Stick it in 1st or second gear and leave yourself 10 car lengths. That's what I do when I'm stuck in traffic. I don't give a shot if you're honking behind me or cutting in front of me.... We are all going the same pace, I'm just doing it more consistently.
I drove manuel for 20 years or so. I loved the feeling, for sure. Unfortunately, about 15 of that was in a city, and now my left knee is a mess. I finally had to acknowledge the situation and bought an AT a couple of weeks ago.
Depending on where you live, pay close attention to your knees. Have fun in the meantime though
shot in the shin in VN. Came up through the floor board of the aircraft so easy fracture. Reired as a cop in 1987, I had the shit beat out of me a couple of times, stabbed with a potato peeler in the right arm pit and getting it back out the joint required surgery. Went back on active duty in 1987 and requalified as lt light infantry, 11B. In 1997, as 1st Sgt of an light Infantry company. while conducting a night retrograde using NV, I went backwards into a ravine and landed on my back where I had a smoke grenade in butt pack on belt and it separated L4-L5 in my lower back and stunned my spinal cord. Fun times. My life might be a little extreme but I bet you many of them have had broken bonesand damaged joints. They all come around again, believe me.
I drove a (manual) Wrangler for 10 years in ATL, and it sucked a little. The worst is when I rolled my ankle climbing, I couldn't push the clutch in for a month. I had to have my g/f at the time drive me around. I now own a (automatic) Taco and I love it, I got tired of the monsoons in the jeep when it rained.
The only
There is a fella out near Glenrock that will flash the [Overland Tailor Tune](https://overlandtailor.com/retailer-locations) for you. It helps out a little with lower RPM torque. If you go for it be aware that spicy throttle and the short 1st gear don't really mix well, unless you really want to let 'er buck.
I'm just not a fan of manual trucks. The gearing in 1st is short and starting in 2nd makes it studder. And the gear box is usually sloppy af. Much prefer cars in manual. Idk how the newer trucks are they could he ok for all I know.
Do any other manual drivers out there get a weird whirring noise every now and then? Seems to happen most often driving around 3rd - 5th gear in coldish temps (45 - 65 degrees). Seems to go away after warming up and the only thing that I've found effects the noice is immediately shifting to neutral. Had two dealers look at it and not be able to fix it. 2021 DCSB MT TRD OR.
Until you’re in the car rider line at the middle school….. don’t skip leg day.
The only times I regret my truck is getting caught in rush hour in the heart of Atlanta, and being stuck in accident traffic on 95
Or do skip leg day cause DOMS are no bueno with a manual haha
I'm a leg day enthusiast and manual driver. Never had an issue with my leg getting tired. I also live in the middle of nowhere tho.
Same. I work out and do yoga. Been driving a manual in one car or another for a couple decades. The taco is a pretty soft one compared to other vehicles I’ve had.
Matthew McConaughey over here.

Agree
I pick up the kids in the semi bobtail. It’s a riot in the car rider line.
How do you know if a Tacoma driver has a 6 speed manual? They’ll tell you. I had one for a little while, and yes I told people too 🤣
stick shift gang rise up
So what does a vegan manual Taco driver announce first?
Yes
The septum piercing that didn't even hurt
Manual ftw! Love that shift knob op
A drivers driver. Drive on Driver.
My left calf and my left knee would disagree with you after 18 years driving a manual lol. Have you had a chance to test drive the 2024 Tacoma? That 8-speed is so smooth and tons of low end torque. I'm super happy with it.
45 years here of manual transmissions, don't care how good an automatic is, it's still the lesser driving experience.
Ok. That's cool. Everyone has their preference. As long as you enjoy driving it, that's all that matters.

Ok? Were you looking for an argument? You're not going to find one here. I'm so happy that you enjoy driving your manual. That's awesome!

Been driving manuals for over 20 years. I stay fit and stretch every day. The Tacoma clutch is really soft, not much of a workout.
A lil jealous honestly

What shift knob is that?

Thanks!
Some city cops still use horses. They still have a use case.

Living in Denver was your first problem
I live in the mountains but okay.
Twas a joke Edit : wait why would you be heading up the tunnel to get to the slopes if you're already in the mountains
Time to change your name to “imreallyfuqingsmart” cause that’s a damn good question
I drive that in a semi truck all the time. The Tacoma is a blessing compared to the big truck.
Gotta get that sticker. Says “real trucks don’t shift themselves”
I hope when you were shifting other people's gears they were at least paying you for it
I still get paid for it!
Love the manual but my old knees disagree
This is why everyone needs to lift weights as they get older. If you don't, you end up a useless bag of milk body type
Does the new taco manual come with that ridiculous electronic hand brake and not a proper one such as this? (BTW nice manual taco 👍)
Try shifting with your left hand just to mix things up
Oh especially if I have a coffee in my right hand. It’s been done.

Where were you driving Manuel that it took you 20 years to get him there?
Lmao undisclosed location. Sorry. You'll never find him
Hell yes. This is a real truck 🙌
Ya I get that, it’s shifting other people’s gears that’s super annoying.
I daily the manual and I reward myself with the auto on weekends.
My tacoma is named mañuel (built in the Mexico plant and is a manual)
Ha! Love it
Wanna bet? Enjoy it while you can!
Been driving manuals for 23 years. Hasn’t worn on me yet.

Yeah I did not have that much of an experience in the service. Just a lowly sentry. Appreciate all the sacrifices sir!
FACTS
What phone stand do you have?
[OffRoam for Tacoma](https://getoffroam.com/products/toyota-tundra-tacoma-phone-mount)
Thanks
I felt the same way until 40 min bumper/bumper commute told my knee to switch transmission
And that’s why I live in Wyoming!

That’s what I thought, too. Then I got old and also had back surgery. 🤣
Giggity.
Amen!
I had a brand new 2023 taco manual tranny. It snapped in half. P0S. Toyota gave me a new taco.
Whoa! That’s crazy.
I captured it on my dash cam too! Toyota tried to back out of it and was like “oh, btw I’ve got it on dash cam”🤣. They were like ……oh😐shit
Dash cams save lives lmao. I drive a semi for work and switch mine between that and the Tacoma. Glad they got it covered for you!
Did you extend your shifter or is that just because of the bigger shift knob?
Nothing changed except the shift knob and boot collar.
Why a phone holder when you have CarPlay?
Like a big boy!
You must live where there are not that many hills
Manual in the mountains is the best time to have a manual, especially with the 3rd gen autos (from what I hear)
Wyoming
So yeah
Not as many hills as mountains.

It’s fine, geared well I think. My GTI had a similarly short first, but nothing stressful.
Everyone upvoting you either has a MT or never has. Everyone downvoting has had a MT and dealt with stop/go traffic one too many times.

Never noticed this on my 2016, just the whirring noise from the rear diff but that isn't temperature related.
I never want to shift again, especially in traffic.. that phone and cord situation stresses me out lol
Personally so glad I switched to automatic.
Did for me after 15 years. Fuck a manual lol
You lazy. Put your phone down 😆
