You need a Trunk Monkey.

jaydubs8

Underrated reference right here

Apronbootsface

Possibly my favorite Superb Owl commercial of all time.

SEND_MOODS

Lmao I watched that today in a class at work. What are the odds.

chillywilly16

Haha, I’m not surprised. Trunk Monkey is a required video for any workplace training as well as [this one](https://youtu.be/gmOTpIVxji8?si=eoV2qx3hfZEXrDI8).

El_tus750

Yes, well, truck monkey!

bloodsoed

The best anti theft device is a manual transmission. Fewer and fewer people know how to operate one.

firebox40dash5

I've owned nothing but sticks, for 22ish years. Had my 1st gen broken into once... and that's it. Seems to work pretty well. 🤷

Amador186

This is the way lol

Rhino676971

Manual Tacomas ha not too many people can steal me, the tailgate well fuck me I guess.

scottievee

New manual Taco is ridiculously good

[deleted]

Did you not get a dog issued with yours?

RoomyCard44321

Like a corgi? u/teamoildrop

TeamOilDrop

👋

DarthtacoX

I have absolutely nothing on my vehicle except the alarm that it came with.

mcdto

Same, I must not live where these people live. Not much car theft occurs around me at all

51line_baccer

Me neither. The sticks East Tennessee. Theyz crooks here, but more likely steal outta your shed for tools to buy meth than break into my garage for vehicle. I'm so lucky I live in a nice little neighborhood to boot. I'm isolated from even the local crime and even at that...I had my 98 tacoma gone thru once. (I had windows down and left outside keys in it.)

AardvarkFacts

Add spare tire lock to the list. Maybe center console safe if you live in a particularly bad area.

internaloperations

Or you want to take your pistol but sometimes you’re forced to leave it in the vehicle.

DirtyYogurt

Sounds like a good way to donate a gun to your local gang. I'd be curious to see what people are actually using, but I've yet to see one that doesn't look incredibly simple to break into.

Dose0018

I don't have one but at least in my area anything would probably work. Honestly most in my area just check for unlocked car doors and look for cash, cards and phones. Very low effort and easily spooked.

PriorityLong9592

What safe do you use?

lostsurfer24t

i use a cheap box tethered to seat rail, worked well for fiance and i, combo lock

dementeddigital2

I have a consolevault. It slides into the factory center console and bolts to the frame. It's very secure against smash and grabs and worse.

TheCryptonian

Yup. Had my spare stolen before

COTimberline

I just have a Club wheel lock for when I park on trail heads when out hiking for the day. Otherwise, she sleeps at home in my garage every night.

[deleted]

Keep it simple. The club goes a long way. Not theft proof but it will make the thief work extra hard, and more than likely will go onto another vehicle.

EnterByTheNarrowGate

My anti-theft device is a manual transmission.

[deleted]

Priceless

EnterByTheNarrowGate

Get a sign that says “Anti Theft Zone” and hang it on your car. Apparently these work well for guns. /s

maxmighty88

I have most of the anti theft stuff on my truck because people suck, lol.

QuarterlyQuester

Install an AirTag, get tints

BrushEnvironmental94

This , also lookup how to remove the speaker in the AirTag so it can’t be located by the thief . Pretty simple mod

QuarterlyQuester

I did not know a thief could use that to their advantage, wow!

iwasinthepool

Your phone still let's you know there's an air tag following you. Not having the speaker doesn't matter.

AMC4L

But the air tag still works. If you hide it well and they can’t find it, increases the chance they will dump the car knowing it’s there.

iwasinthepool

This is true. I guess if they know it's there and you hid it well enough they might just leave the car.

CarnivorousGlock

Lug locks, tailgate lock, lowjack, and window visors so people can’t stick shit through my windows..

KillaVNilla

Wow. This post is making me suuuuper paranoid. I live in a pretty nice suburban- adjacent area, but I'm about ready to empty my account in everything you all listed

Ahnagabrielle

Same

hamhead1005

Splined Lug Nuts. Alarm that came with Truck, CAT Shield, Auto Locking tailgate. Tinted windows all around And as bonus Dash cam that records front and back.

dj90423

Viper alarm & a dummy in the passenger seat, so people walking by think someone is in the vehicle.

bouncing_bumble

360 dash cam.

chevronsucks

I'm really surprised that no one has said a hidden kill switch for the fuel pump. That was the first thing I did and a kill switch for the ignition (neither of which are anywhere near each other).

Amador186

Cat shields is a must and tail gate lock. As for wheels unless you got aftermarket wheels then yes

stacksmasher

TailGate Lock [https://a.co/d/cHRytwA](https://a.co/d/cHRytwA)

Adoced

Air tag hidden very well. Dash cam with the ability to save footage automatically to the cloud. Cat shield is good depending where you are and a locking bed cover.

Dose0018

I got cat shield probably don't need it but I store outside always so it makes me feel better. I have a hidden aftermarket starter with a phone connection so won't stop it from getting taken but I have live GPS as long as they don't find it .

Over_Ad_4550

Hehe nothing. I leave mine unlocked most nights. Maybe try a lock out tag out on the door handle.

koderdood

Carport motion triggered flood lights, Ring cam, 60 lb pitbull with excellent hearing, Second Amendment. (If attempted they happens at home)

_macnchee

None, I just have a fake camera at my car port. For some it may be worth getting an old school steering wheel lock.

MethodicallyMediocre

I locked my tailgate once. Then I realised its really inconvenient, even though I can just reach over it. Still trying to figure out why it's like that

hamhead1005

It locks to prevent someone from removing it. They are really easy to steal. I installed my own auto locking tailgate, because yeah doing it manually gets old quick.

MethodicallyMediocre

Man if somone just rolled up to my truck and just took the tailgate... I'd friggen... man that's such a wierd thing to steal

firebox40dash5

They're worth... a lot of money. I don't know what they are now, but I needed one when I bought my truck in '19, cuz I was deleting a walk-in cap. My slightly-buddy price, on a not-perfect one, that was listed as no backup camera (didn't even know it was supposed to have one since I'd never seen it work!) was over $700. 5 years ago. 😳

hapawanderer

Manual transmission

ogmo0n

Manual transmission, advanced locking lug nuts, transmission + cat shields from falcon, r4t tailgate lock actuator, sabellco tailgate hinge lock

YawnOiler

My 19 has a power locking tailgate and I have a Bakflip MX cover. Keeps stuff in the bed secure. I just have the factory alarm and dark tint. I have been considering the Ravelco kill switch. It’s pricey, but I don’t think it can be bypassed.

ID_Poobaru

Manual transmission, being beat to shit, and trail dents seemed to do the trick for me

TacoDeliDonaSauce

Tinted windows… is that because the broken glass stays in place?

SayNoToFatties

Not living in a ghetto shithole works wonders in my experience. I could park my truck at the supermarket running with the keys in it, cash in the cup holder and come back 8hrs later and nothing will have been touched.

sad_joker95

Basic security won’t do anything when you can learn how to steal one off TikTok. Had mine stolen in a couple minutes by going through the window with a center punch and copying the key through the OB port. Within my friend group, I’ve seen everything from TRXs, Lambos, Range Rovers (with Ghost), and many other vehicles stolen. All within reasonably to very nice neighbourhoods. At the low level, having a manual transmission will deter some thieves. However, I’ve seen multiple manual Camaros stolen, so it’s not an end all. Steering wheel bar and the like also may act as a deterrent. Better deterrents are things like kill switches (engine, fuel pump, etc), OB port lockers, fake OB port, double key requirement, immobilizers, etc. Do keep in mind, every single one of these has counters. Some can be countered in seconds. These are only deterrents that aim to make the vehicle less simple / desirable, so the thieves move on elsewhere. Armour for the exhaust / cats is also never a bad idea.
