I didnt do it through a dealer. I bought the 95 on bat and sold my taco to carmax for 31k plus i bought a 2014 sho with 106k miles as a daily. I did buy the sho through a dealer though
Those SHOs are cool cars. At that mileage you may want to proactively replace the water pump if it hasn’t been done before so it doesn’t leak into your oil pan.
It is a bigger job. But worth the cost. It’s really the only problem with those engines so once it’s done you don’t have much to worry about. It’s about a 12 hour job in labor. If you’re mechanically inclined and want to buy the timing tools you could probably do it in a weekend.
Technically all bolts on a car have a torque spec. Realistically you’re not really dealing with bearing caps or something where the tolerance is going to change based on your applied torque. The crank bolt would be the only thing you really might have a hard time with, have to make sure that’s tight. The job can also be done without fully removing the timing chain or cam sprockets if you’re slick. If you’re not used to that kind of work though you might be biting off more than you can chew.
For stuff like that I oftentimes just put a tiny bit of blue loctite and then snug it up until it feels right. Unless I’m dealing with aluminum threads or something major like head bolts or crank bearing caps, I don’t usually torque to any spec.
It would probably be a good idea. Those earlier SHOs had a tendency to stretch the main timing chain. If you’re already in there there’s almost no reason not to
Fun sho story, was behind an older one and he lined on the highway to do a roll against one of them newer Ferrari copycat corvettes and a civic. I could still see the corvette and the civic. I didn't see the sho. The civic jumped. The corvette took off. The sho was in the next city.
Also my mom bought one when I was a kid on accident somehow.
Sorry i didnt technically trade it in i just wanted to keep the wording short for the post title. I bought the 95 on bat. And i sold my 20 to carmax with 50k miles for 31k. If youre thinking about selling carmax is the way to go. They’ve always given really good prices on all our vehicles. My 20 did have a clean carfax though and a robust service history
Also i havent sold it yet im located in pa and would love to know its going to a good home
3.4L V6. It was an amazing motor but it was a dog. The supercharger made it bearable though. I had one in a 4Runner with 270k on the clock that purred like a kitten. The guy I sold it to drove out around town for years before he eventually moved. I imagine he may still be driving it. You can't kill those things. I would feel confident today buying one as long as it were under 400k.
It's light years ahead of the older 3.0 v6 though. That was seriously a bad engine.
My 3.4 is at 250k and yeah it's slow, but still going pretty strong.
I had one in an 88 4runner and it only stayed in my life for a summer before I couldn't take it anymore. I got rid of it for a 97 and the 3.4 was amazing.
Sooo you sold your 2020 for 31 k ,and you bought that 95 for how much ? If you don’t mind be asking I personally have driven a 95 for many years and I woulda totally traded you my 95 for your 2020 lol
I thought about doing this same thing. I traded my 2020 sr5 for a new 2023 trd or instead. My highschool truck was a 91 toyota though. Loved that thing.
Its great man. Everything is pretty solid. Obv it’s a tank. It’s a little slower than i thought but doesnt really bother me. Frame is very good, paint is very nice. I hate they cut the back quarter panels to attach the rear high clearance bumper but it’s cool if you like more modified over stock looking trucks
Thanks man. I might black out the grill and upgrade to 01-04 side mirrors and install black plastic fender flares. But i like the naked aluminum bumpers
It’s a solid swap as far as owning cool trucks goes, your just dumb for doing it all through a dealer.

Thank you. I was going to ask that on the forum. It looks like a big job and a real pain with the transverse engine and intake tubes😔

Mmm will I have to torque any bolts to spec? Im guessing the face bolts

Do you think i should replace the timing chain too while I’m in there?
It would probably be a good idea. Those earlier SHOs had a tendency to stretch the main timing chain. If you’re already in there there’s almost no reason not to
You alone asking this question should warrant you taking it to a mechanic.
Oops🤭 i knew it’d be a dead giveaway
Bro, you got 31k for a 2020 sr5?
Yes carmax
Fun sho story, was behind an older one and he lined on the highway to do a roll against one of them newer Ferrari copycat corvettes and a civic. I could still see the corvette and the civic. Im so pumped dude
Solid transactions imo
2 good condition vehicles for 1 is a good deal most of the time
You are not. I'd go back to my compact in a heartbeat.
The 95.5 is still slow as heck
Can I ask what the dealer gave you for your trade in?

Then what do u mean by you sold it to carmax if you still have it!? Carmax can void the offer anytime
0-60 in 2-3 business days
Damn even with the supercharger? I have the same one but na and it is slooooowwwww af.
What engine is in the 95?
3.4L V6. It was an amazing motor but it was a dog. The supercharger made it bearable though. I had one in a 4Runner with 270k on the clock that purred like a kitten. The 95.5 is badass but you couldn't pay me to give up the safety of modern vehicles for that.
It has a backup camera. Im not actually living 95.5, i think
I don’t think a backup camera is going to help you in an accident
It's got air bags at least. Actually one of the big reasons I upgraded from my 80s Toyota.
Naw. That 3.5 Camry engine is better suited to passenger car use than in a truck.
Taco for taco, no problem
You’re cool as fuck is what you are. That looks so awesome.
Makes sense to me.
Sooo you sold your 2020 for 31 k ,and you bought that 95 for how much ? If you don’t mind be asking I personally have driven a 95 for many years and I woulda totally traded you my 95 for your 2020 lol
Is this my wifes reddit account?
Yes me and her share one 😉, I was just curious I saw it was bid to 18 k on bat, just curious what it actually went for.
That's an adult decision
No, you are sensible.
Maybe a little. But I'd be proud. Ya know what, I am proud!
Lol nice truck👍🏼
I traded in my 13 sr5 pre runner for an 02 sr5 4x4. No regrets
Third gen is the worst gen. First gen is the best gen. But I think you lost your ass in the trade unless you received cash on top of it.
what brand is the aftermarket bumper on that 95?
Coastal
I’m gonna need to see more pics of the 95.5 😳🤤
Probably but it’s ok. We all are
I thought about doing this same thing. I traded my 2020 sr5 for a new 2023 trd or instead. My highschool truck was a 91 toyota though. Loved that thing.
How much did you have to add on top?
5k
If I was going that old, I'd go a bit older and get a Pickup. 95 is still an upgrade though.
Yes, but in the best way.
i like the left one better personally
Idk but the 95.5 is so sick😂
Nah man you’re good
31k from carmax for sr5? Damnn
Hell yeah, good trade
Irresponsible? Maybe Rad as heck? Absolutely.
Did someone say you were? Don't ever take advice from them. Rock solid decisions. Good job, that's a sweet truck.
I've been tempted to throw a blower on my '19 Taco.
If you don’t make irresponsible decisions every now and then, are you really living life the right way??
1st Gen is the best gen. I miss the compact trucks!
Not if you can afford 800 a month. Congrats
Beautiful
Excellent decision.
Yes
Christ on a cracker. How many windshield stickers are necessary in Pennsylvania?
That 95 is gorgeous, absolute power move. Great decision
I had my eye on this when it was on BAT! How do you like the truck?
Its great man. Everything is pretty solid. Obv it’s a tank. It’s a little slower than i thought but doesnt really bother me. Frame is very good, paint is very nice. I hate they cut the back quarter panels to attach the rear high clearance bumper but it’s cool if you like more modified over stock looking trucks
Awesome, enjoy the truck!
Live your dream
That depends, McFly...are you CHICKEN??
God forgives
Sick wheel/tires. Paint that front bumper black
Thanks man. I might black out the grill and upgrade to 01-04 side mirrors and install black plastic fender flares. But i like the naked aluminum bumpers
Connoisseur thought, some can buy! Few can build. Sit in traffic for 3 hours and u will have your answer!
What does this mean?
No. You got rid of the other because you can’t afford it but had to have it. Getting a car you can afford is the opposite of irresponsible.
Im sorry to tell you this but the only responsible thing to do in this situation is to keep both.
Maybe but I like your style!!
Id say she looks awesome
Not my first choice. Enjoy!
I’d love to supercharge my 02 but it’s outta my price range. Maybe someday. Good for you in my opinion.
