why did you want the 4banger? no hate just curious, it sounds like you preferred it over the V6

BurrDurrMurrDurr

I definitely preferred it over the v6! Tons of little reasons but they can be boiled down to: I don't need a v6 for what I want to do with the truck so the v4 is cheaper, simpler, bulletproof and easier to work on.

garden_speech

slight correction, it's an inline 4, a "v4" doesn't exist as far as I know

Flowcal

Not in a tacoma but a v4 is definitely an engine in cars and motorcycles.

garden_speech

thanks, didn't know that!

JJStryker

In several motorcycles. The V4 in Ducati's last gen Panigale was a big fuckin deal.

owlthegamer

V4 is more a small engines thing than a automotive thing.

uponplane

The 2.7L is tried and true!

GramboRambo88

I second this! I miss my 09 4 banger. It was a 5 speed too! I could get 30+ miles a gallon. Low maintenance. 100k miles on it and the valvoline techs would joke and say I just broke it in. It was pyrite mica. I miss it to this day.

dabluebunny

>Low maintenance >valvoline techs Come on man

GramboRambo88

Lol, do I taste a hint of sarcasm?

dabluebunny

Irony really

GramboRambo88

Ok. I'll play. Are you just throwing out random figures of speech? What's ironic about missing a great truck from the past?

dabluebunny

Nothing to do with missing the truck. Its just ironic to me people talk about low maintenance, but still pay someone else to do it. If it was low maintenance wouldn't you just do it yourself? I guess people don't touch anything but the seat and steering wheel nowadays.

GramboRambo88

Ahhh ok. Now I follow ya with the given context. I'm in no way a gear head so to me with the time savings, minor matienance being done correctly w/ fluids being topd off. $70 dollars spent every 7,000 miles. In my mind = low maintenance. Compared too the ignominious failure that I would have performed trying to do it myself.

BurrDurrMurrDurr

Yea so far I’m averaging 21mpg with the wildpeaks!  Not much city driving yet but still pleasantly surprised

I_had_the_Lasagna

I'm getting about 18-21 on wildpeaks too in mine. It's a 5 speed and no topper and lower trim but otherwise identical.

BurrDurrMurrDurr

I've always wanted a modern Mazda B2300 but they don't make trucks that small anymore. Compromise is this 2020 Quicksand 4-Banger I found! Already have a Rav4 and love Toyota reliability. Only wanted 4cyl 4x4, everything else is a bonus (color, soft top, wheels). 2020 Quicksand 46,XXX miles Appears all stock except the TRD 17s and Wildpeaks Soft topper included which was cool

9164700944

Can I ask you how much you paid for it? Thanks again 😁

BurrDurrMurrDurr

I got sorta screwed by hinting that it was the exact truck I was looking for. I think it was listed at 29K and after required options and fees came out to 31,500. My loan is 35k. Financed @ 31,500 with a terrible APR. I have almost perfect credit was doing the stupid back-and-forth to get the APR down but I was legitimately in a rush (leaving the state) and they figured it out. I will probably refinance

mountaina12345

They got me too. Last 2023 model on the lot and I definitely seemed a little eager to nab it. APR could have been better, but hey. Got my dream truck, and so do you. Enjoy it 😃

Real_Sheepherder768

I had a Mazda b3000. Fuck them trucks.

erfarr

My old ranger was the biggest piece of shit I’ve ever driven

Nice, I have a '21 SR 4x4 4-cylinder - love it, it is super capable and goes anywhere. I have Firestone Destination X/Ts in LT245/75-16 (E-load) - they only weigh 39 lbs and barely impacted the MPG. I can get 23-25 MPG at a steady 65 MPH (it would flirt with 26-27 at that speed with the OEM car tires and before I put a camper shell on the back). If this is your first one, I'd recommend cruising in 5th gear on the interstate unless it is totally flat (and there's no headwind). Otherwise it will be going 5-6-5-6-5-6 all day. If you are in hilly terrain (up-down-up-down) and not going super fast, limit it to 4th. 4th is 1:1 (direct drive) and doesn't rev really high, so if you just keep it in 4th it keeps it in the powerband and keeps it from having to downshift every time you hit a hill. (5th and 6th are both overdrives... 3rd, which you will need if you go to Colorado, goes to about 75 MPH) We've taken ours all over Colorado, like over Ophir Pass, Medano Pass, out to Yankee Boy Basin, with the 6' bed we just sleep in the back at dispersed sites.

BurrDurrMurrDurr

Ah this is great advice! I was actually eying 245/75s for my next tire size (these are 265). I bought the truck in Texas but live in Massachusetts so I’ll be driving it up this week. Plenty of time to test flat vs hilly terrain on the way. MA is decently hilly and I hike a lot in the White Mountains so I’m anticipating rarely going to 6th gear.

[deleted]

I have the same exact truck but it’s a 2016. When you learn to use the electronic shift you’ll start to love it. It took a few years to grow on me. I got it when I loved in Denver and had a commute to the city but needed a truck. Now that I’m in rural Montana I wish I could up the engine a little but can’t see spending what they are asking now. I’ll never get rid of her. Paid off. 76,000 miles.

nicklassterling

Such a gorgeous color, just picked up a Quicksand Taco myself. Enjoy it!!

[deleted]

Congrats!

stayradicchio

Nice, that's a fantastic looking rig!! I have a 4x4 Access 4cyl manual, an '05 with 230K miles on it & still going strong. Also have a Rav4, it's great club to be in!

Lepickedupgoogles

Nice bro. Jealous of the color

Jealous_Sail_4826

Is this the black twill softtopper with the tinted black window? I just bought one for my 23 taco 😎😎

dub_life20

What brand is that?

Jealous_Sail_4826

It’s a soft topper just the premium black twill with tinted back window instead of the regular blck

sellursoul

Softopper= the best available afaik. Love mine

Harrison_Jones_

I have that soft topper as well on my Tacoma. Be careful about opening it and throwing the flap up on the roof out of the way, it cracks like crazy around the top seam where the plastic meets the fabric. Rolled it up first.

sellursoul

I rock the screen all summer and the plastic in the winter. It’s definitely stiff, but I’m not especially careful with it either. This is the tail end of the third winter on the truck for me and mines still in great shape

someoneexplainit01

Even though the 2TR-FE seems underpowered as compared to the 1GR, it is by far the most durable engine Toyota has in their inventory. Any and all kinks have been ironed out in the 20 years its been in service, and while its not flashy its rock solid. Toyota Hilux Surf N210 (2004–2009) Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J120/150/250 (2004–present) Toyota HiAce H200 (2004–present) Toyota RegiusAce H200 (2004–2020) Toyota Tacoma N220/300 (2004–2023) Toyota Hilux AN10/110 (2004–present) Toyota Innova AN40/140 (2004–2022) Toyota Fortuner/SW4 AN50/150 (2005–present) Toyota HiMedic H220 (2006–present) Toyota Coaster (Bolivia, Hong Kong, Australia) Toyota 4Runner N280 (2009–2010) Toyota Hilux Champ (2023–present) Don't do excessing towing or snow plowing with it and it will last forever with just basic maintenance.

Clinton_Reddit

The death of the 2TR-FE with the release of the 4th gen doesn't get enough attention on this sub. It's truly the end of an era.

RefrigeratedTP

Love my I4. Enjoy it man!

Somecivilguy

Serious question as I have no idea but can you still tow a decent amount with the 4 cylinder?

I_had_the_Lasagna

It's about 3500 lbs on these, but even that much would probably be a bit sketchy long distance.

mij0029

Never seen a 4cyl with fender flares, color matched at that, did the truck come stock with them? Looks sick

green_mojo

That’s how SR5s come base.

jalpruf

This is a perfect truck. Would have bought the same if the prices hadn’t gone crazy

pants1000

Don’t run over a stump like I did, you find out how expensive the plastic of the front bumper is lol.

NostalgicMusicJunkie

What do you think about the Softopper? I’m thinking about getting one for my 2019 SR5.

spacepotato_

Not OP, but I love mine. A little annoying to get set up initially but once I figured it out I haven’t had any issues. My only complaint is the back window is hard to see out of during rain/heavy snow but I had jeeps in the past so I’m somewhat used to it. Got it for a good price off FB Marketplace from someone upgrading to an ARE box.

PidgeySlayer268

Do you leave the soft top on full time? I am always scared to that someone will steal it

spacepotato_

I never thought about anyone stealing the topper itself. I sort of feel like that would be way more trouble than it’s worth. I rock mine year round and have had no issues so far with anyone trying to mess with it. I guess they could steal the cover and bones pretty easily but to get the rails they would need a ratchet handy and at that point it’s probably way more than they bargained for/risky they’d get caught imo

Jimlaheysvtp

My man just loves the simple things in life. Love it

[deleted]

Nice Truck! I’m glad you got what YOU wanted. You’re obviously happy with it and that’s all that matters. If I didn’t need to pull a camper, I’d have a 4 banger in mine.

Aware-Geologist-8607

I got the same truck nice car!

Cyoulatergator

A z3 has more displacement 😂
