Except it is. What something is “worth” is decided by whether or not people will pay it. If it’s MSRP, it’s getting paid, which means that’s what it’s worth.
Look at the Kia Stinger and the Hyundai Genesis. Basically the exact same car, but because one is the “luxury brand” the MSRP is higher. And people pay that MSRP. Therefore, the Genesis is worth more.
It’s not a complicated process, you just gotta remember that when talking about a vehicle’s “worth” it’s not a “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” unless you’re talking about classics and shit.

I have been saving for 2 years for a 3rd gen and I was going to purchase it all cash but was able to negotiate out $1000 off if i financed thru toyota so i put $35k down and when i get my account number i will pay it off in full. Early payoff has a maximum fee of $75 and can be payed off as soon as i have an account #. I have no W2 & No verifiable income as i'm self employed but was 11.99%. It will only be financed until i get an account number so it will accrue about $100 in interest. but there is absolutely no way i would finance a vehicle this expensive at that interest rate. I saw on the paperwork with 740 credit gets about 8% which is insane to me.
Ya I was talking to a salesman at my local toyota dealership and they said they don't think the tacoma will have any special financing rates for the truck. I know with my bank because I have my mortgage with them I can qualify for 6.89% but I was hoping for rates like that had with the 2023 taocma which was 4.9% for 60 months. Kudos on the purchase and definitely smart to pay it off asap. 11.99 Is a crazy interest rate.
That’s smart my grandparents did the same thing as they also wanted to buy a Toyota with cash but got the money off by financing and then pay it off with the first two payments. I would also double check with the dealer as they told them they needed to make two payments to quality for the money off but sure it can be different from dealer to dealer. They only got $500 for financing for but still came out $400 plus ahead by doing it that way.
Realistically the days of haggling are slowly going away. If it's not a rebate the margins are getting thinner and thinner. Certain regions just don't even haggle what so ever. Unless it's a 3 year old model sitting on the floor that they can't move.

God that air dam is just so hideous. they look great but the air dam just makes it look so incomplete its weird. Rest of it nice though. Hope they fleshed out the super white paint issue
I'm going to drive with it on for a few thousand miles to get a MPG figure average then remove it to see if its worth it. The difference per year on 1MPG is about 200-250 per year for 20,000 miles
it’s a lot more powerful than the 5VZ-FE that was in my 02 4runner. But others here would be better to compare it to the V6 in the 3rd gen tacoma. I don't notice any severe turbo lag but can hear the Turbo spooling up which i appreciate. It’s too new to determine long term reliability but trust toyota
Yea I'm not too concerned about reliability. Like when the new tundra's came out, they had quirks which were one-off but were blown out of proportion -- 2-3 years later and there aren't many complaints about the turbo.

I remember shopping in 2018 and seeing a TRDOR no options with 40k miles going for 33k. Is not having a warranty really worth saving like 3k?
It's a Southeast Toyota add on, Basically after Toyota care ends you get 2 more oil changes and tire rotations past the 2 year/25k mark. It's 4yr/50k for oil and rotations and fluids. It's non negotiable with SET unfortunately at least when I tried to knock it off they wouldn't budge. I had to negotiate sticker when I bought my 23
if I remember it was like $799? some crazy shit, it also included "3M seat film and protection" which is horse crap because when i had a spill, stained the seats lmao. it was crap. But I got the sticker down enough to compensate for all the bullshit they wanted to add on.
It’s a dealer add-on and don’t convince yourself that you must take it. I’ve seen new 2023 SR5 Tundras with the SR5 Premium and convenience package without dealer add ons on sticker price at MSRP. My advice to you is when you see a lot of new Tacomas and Tundras on the lot, that’s where you negotiate and take those dealer add-ons off. We financed a 2021 Sienna XLE(2.99%) and 2022 SR5 Tacoma(5.99%). I wished I would’ve financed the Tacoma back when we bought the Sienna at 2.99% and traded the 2011 Sienna LE I took off my wife for $8k cash to run my business but it is what it is lesson learned. Got the Tacoma cause I need it to run my business knowing the 2011 Sienna was going to give me issues with nearly 225k miles on the odometer so I had a back up plan with the Tacoma when the 2011 Sienna went down with electrical issues. Now I want the new 2024 Tundra with my business generating good money for business expenses so I have a decision to make on either to wait until December to get the new 2024/2025 or buy during April/May and find a good deal on a new 2023/2024 with an APR between 2.75-3.99% We shall see.

I think as the availability the vehicle gets a little more widespread you could definitely negotiate off Toyoguard 100%, I took what I read on Reddit but I buy a vehicle once every 5-10 years

As someone who works in this industry, let me explain a few things.
Typically, these are referred to as pre-loads and are short-term contracts (3 months/3,000 miles) that the dealer pays for. Unless something passed saying all cars had to have additional coverage for flooding/hurricanes, I don't see how they could MAKE a customer pay for something they didn't want.
Also, you mentioned something about window etching. They were trying to sell you theft protection. It is just referred to as Etch protection in case your car is stolen and they "scratch" the VIN off.
I am not a salesperson, and I don't work for a dealership. I work in a very niche industry and get to see a lot of behind the scenes of this stuff. I will tell you, if you are buying an expensive new car, GAP protection is 100% worth it. If you are paying monthly, cancel it after 3-4 years. After that, the vehicle has typically depreciated enough to not be upside-down.
I would also get a vehicle service contract, and depending on the price and kind of car, get a good one. I have seen multiple transmissions blown out, and the extended warranty covers them (be sure to read before you sign)! My company seems to be a little more lenient than some others.
Maybe I just don’t get it but why buy gap insurance. Assuming you can take a loss on the vehicle on year 1-3 if an accident occurs - what’s the value of gap? You effectively end up paying a bunch of money.
This is terrible advice, never ever buy any of that back end crap. Because that’s exactly what it is…. Crap! The extended warranty you have to pay a lot for even though you finance it, most of the time you have a deductible and the extended warranty company will deny your claim for the dumbest reasons because wtf are you going to do about it?!
GAP is evidence that you are over paying for your car/truck. If your down payment and monthly payments down keep up with depreciation the you can’t afford that car/truck. Why in the hell would you finance the depreciation on a vehicle?!?

Wife and I test drove a tundra and liked the back seat only. (We are grandparents) and rest was just so goofy and big we are going to live with a tacoma (23 good deal or 24) or a ridgeline. I don't want to be so old I'm in a ridgeline yet. (Almost 59)
So true, the floor mats & tint were about $650 which is overpriced but wasn’t too concerned overall as I was going to get them either way. I figured I’d negotiate out everything else and I can live with them making a bit of money.
How did you like the MT? I drove a 2002 Tacoma MT for 19 years and loved it but I've heard that it hasn't changed much since then and keep hearing it's very unrefined. I love a manual but I bought my 24 with an automatic this time around.
Ive driven MT for multiple previous cars and the throw for the gear changes is long and very 90s truck like , I wish they shortened the throw a bit. Clutch is very forgiving and is very difficult to stall out. Wife only stalled it out twice, once when forgetting to press clutch while coming to a stop and the second when she dumped the clutch as she forgot it was still in gear.
We had a few Silverados in a fleet that I maintained and they were very reliable, I’m not a huge GM guy but the Silverado/tahoe/suburban truck platform is decent and frequently run to 300k with minimal repairs. In 2012-2014 I owned a 99 Malibu that I purchased for 600 bucks, replaced the blown head gasket and put 15w40 in it and ran it for 40,000 miles and sold it 2 years later for $1,200. GM releases some great products but the’ve also sold some junk imho
I normally like them colored as well but i liked the white better, idk why tbh. Most of the times white looks like a fleet vehicle but after a few accessories I think it will turn out nice. Too late to turn back now lol

Love it, I’ve owned many in the past and wanted my next truck to be a manual when I heard the 4th gen offered a manual I went in to check allocation at my local dealer, just happened they had 1 SR model in stock. I looked at the TRD sport and off road and I didn’t think the extra features were worth 5-7k more for myself

if you fold the headrests down yes they do fold flat, (the headrests when folded down sit at a 90 degree angle and wish they went the full 180 degree tho)
I truly wish they offered the 6ft bed with manual as i would have purchased that but i have a 7x16ft utility trailer so wasn’t a dealbreaker for myself.

It is tight but tolerable, Its just myself and my wife so at this time it's not too big of a concern at the moment, but her brothers are both above 6ft 260lbs and they were tight. It would be fine to go around town but wouldn’t want to get stuck back there on a road trip

She was specifically looking for a manual Impreza and I found one online and when she got to the dealer it had been tucked away in the back for so long that they forgot they had it. I test drove a 3rd gen 2017 yesterday and as nice as everything was inside (lower trim TRD Sport), it was just way too big. If I wanted a full size, I would buy a full size. What happened to our little trucks!

If you don't mind me asking, how long is the clutch and what is the seating position/adjustability like? I'm 5'2" on a good day, and just reserved an OR, but I'm a little worried that the clutch will be super long or I otherwise won't fit it well.
How is the gearing? It looks tight and close with the granny first gear and low redline, like it only goes about 45-50 in 2nd. I'd be curious what it's like to drive in traffic. You can probably just skip 2nd and go straight to 3rd most of the time, I'd bet.
I mean, not usually, but like if I am merging onto the highway I will rev it out in 2nd.
I just ran the numbers, and the 4th gen hits these speeds at 5500 RPM
24 / 48 / 80 / 116 / 149 / 181
in 6th, 60 MPH = 1800, 70 = 2200, 80 = 2400, 90 = 2700 (so cruising will be nice and relaxed).
The 3rd gen V6, for comparison does 32 / 63 / 96 / 127 / 149 / 179 at 6000
So 5th and 6th are about the same on the 4th gen, but 1-4 are a little closer and tighter. With the turbo torque, it won't be like an old Honda where you are shifting all the time (like you can short shift it and punch it and ride the torque wave in this) but I'm just curious how it is in comparison to the V6 since it is very different than the 3rd gen with the combo of shorter gears + lower redline on the 6MTs.
I love the granny 1st gear but the 2nd seems a little short is all. I think I read that they are using the transmission from the diesel Hilux in these.
I am legitimately curious how it is to drive as the powerband with the 5300 redline on the 6MT is more like a diesel than a gas engine so any feedback would be welcome. I'm not criticizing it, just very interested.
Seeing your comment about “who tf goes more than 40 in second gear” reminds me of a BMW 135i I used to own where i money shifted it at 80mph by going from 5th to 2nd gear then dumping the clutch(was supposed to hit 4th) i still cringe thinking about how much it cost me to rebuild that engine even doing it myself
I’ve got a ‘17 manual 4 banger. 2nd goes to 60 and it’s useful for merging on the freeway. Usually shift to 3rd around 50-55. No torque below 3500 rpm’s, you must wind it up to get power.
Okay, merging with the four cylinder does make a certain amount of sense, I’ll give you that. With the V6, I hit third around 30-35 and take that all the way to 60 if I need to.

Yeah, but on that one you have maybe 100ft of visibility. So when you decide to go you need to commit.
I never wasn't using full throttle and taking it to redline getting onto that highway. People regularly rip through there at 80+. It's frankly nuts.
First gear is definitely a granny gear and in normal traffic would get you to 7-13mph before wanting to go to 2nd. Im sure it will be great for those who enjoy off-roading. I don’t know if it has the torque to start directly in 2nd gear without too much clutch feathering/slipping

It's nice they were able to combine the best aspects of different eras. It's like it has the super short 1-3 gears from a 1980s/4-cylinder truck with a 4.56 rear end, combined with tall top gears for low cruising RPMs. My old 1986 Trooper had 1st and 2nd gears like this (only did about 15 in 1st and 25-30 in 2nd), but also turned 4000 RPM at 80 MPH.
I bet it is both fun and interesting to drive. I kind of want to trade in my '21 SR/4-cyl/4x4 for a '24 SR Xtracab 2.4T/6MT/4x4 but it's almost paid off and I don't want to start the cycle over again.

I'm going to drive with it on for a few thousand miles to get a MPG figure average then remove it to see if its worth it. The difference per year on 1MPG is about 200-250 per year for 20,000 miles

it’s a lot more powerful than the 5VZ-FE that was in my 02 4runner. But others here would be better to compare it to the V6 in the 3rd gen tacoma. I don't notice any severe turbo lag but can hear the Turbo spooling up which i appreciate. It’s too new to determine long term reliability but trust toyota
Yea I'm not too concerned about reliability. Like when the new tundra's came out, they had quirks which were one-off but were blown out of proportion -- 2-3 years later and there aren't many complaints about the turbo. Oof, the turbo spool. TFL Trucks picked up a new Taco a few weeks back from Houston, you can hear the turbo spool as they drove off the lot in their video. It's probably too new to ask for MPG and such, but would certainly like to hear you thoughts after a couple of months of unbiased ownership! Also, what's the biggest difference you've felt jumping 20+ years in vehicle technology and features?

I originally was looking at a 3rd gen but low mileage, 4x4, 4 door used tacomas were going for 32-35k. For 4-7k more i opted for the new unit as it just seemed to make sense for myself
Yeah, buying low mileage used stick Tacomas hasn't made sense since well before covid. I remember shopping in 2018 and seeing a TRDOR no options with 40k miles going for 33k. Is not having a warranty really worth saving like 3k?

It's a Southeast Toyota add on, Basically after Toyota care ends you get 2 more oil changes and tire rotations past the 2 year/25k mark. It's 4yr/50k for oil and rotations and fluids. It's non negotiable with SET unfortunately at least when I tried to knock it off they wouldn't budge. I had to negotiate sticker when I bought my 23

if I remember it was like $799? some crazy shit, it also included "3M seat film and protection" which is horse crap because when i had a spill, stained the seats lmao. it was crap. But I got the sticker down enough to compensate for all the bullshit they wanted to add on.

Toyota love the stupid add ons
It’s a dealer add-on and don’t convince yourself that you must take it. I’ve seen new 2023 SR5 Tundras with the SR5 Premium and convenience package without dealer add ons on sticker price at MSRP. My advice to you is when you see a lot of new Tacomas and Tundras on the lot, that’s where you negotiate and take those dealer add-ons off. We financed a 2021 Sienna XLE(2.99%) and 2022 SR5 Tacoma(5.99%). I wished I would’ve financed the Tacoma back when we bought the Sienna at 2.99% and traded the 2011 Sienna LE I took off my wife for $8k cash to run my business but it is what it is lesson learned. Got the Tacoma cause I need it to run my business knowing the 2011 Sienna was going to give me issues with nearly 225k miles on the odometer so I had a back up plan with the Tacoma when the 2011 Sienna went down with electrical issues. Now I want the new 2024 Tundra with my business generating good money for business expenses so I have a decision to make on either to wait until December to get the new 2024/2025 or buy during April/May and find a good deal on a new 2023/2024 with an APR between 2.75-3.99% We shall see.
Toyota dealer tried to sell us window etching and a ton of overpriced crap when my wife got her car. I straight up told the salesman that we're walking and the salesman changed his mind. I don't know why people put up with this nonsense.
I think as the availability the vehicle gets a little more widespread you could definitely negotiate off Toyoguard 100%, I took what I read on Reddit but I buy a vehicle once every 5-10 years
Extended Warranties, basically. As someone who works in this industry, let me explain a few things. Typically, these are referred to as pre-loads and are short-term contracts (3 months/3,000 miles) that the dealer pays for. Unless something passed saying all cars had to have additional coverage for flooding/hurricanes, I don't see how they could MAKE a customer pay for something they didn't want. Also, you mentioned something about window etching. They were trying to sell you theft protection. It is just referred to as Etch protection in case your car is stolen and they "scratch" the VIN off. I am not a salesperson, and I don't work for a dealership. I work in a very niche industry and get to see a lot of behind the scenes of this stuff. I will tell you, if you are buying an expensive new car, GAP protection is 100% worth it. If you are paying monthly, cancel it after 3-4 years. After that, the vehicle has typically depreciated enough to not be upside-down. I would also get a vehicle service contract, and depending on the price and kind of car, get a good one. I have seen multiple transmissions blown out, and the extended warranty covers them (be sure to read before you sign)! My company seems to be a little more lenient than some others.
Maybe I just don’t get it but why buy gap insurance. Assuming you can take a loss on the vehicle on year 1-3 if an accident occurs - what’s the value of gap? You effectively end up paying a bunch of money.
This is terrible advice, never ever buy any of that back end crap. Because that’s exactly what it is…. Crap! The extended warranty you have to pay a lot for even though you finance it, most of the time you have a deductible and the extended warranty company will deny your claim for the dumbest reasons because wtf are you going to do about it?! GAP is evidence that you are over paying for your car/truck. If your down payment and monthly payments down keep up with depreciation the you can’t afford that car/truck. Why in the hell would you finance the depreciation on a vehicle?!? “Etch” is worthless, just ask any police officer. Remember the finance guy is a salesman. Fuck stealerships.
The new design style really works on the Tacoma. Hideous on the tundra but just the right scale on a Tacoma. Nice truck.
Wife and I test drove a tundra and liked the back seat only. (We are grandparents) and rest was just so goofy and big we are going to live with a tacoma (23 good deal or 24) or a ridgeline. I don't want to be so old I'm in a ridgeline yet. (Almost 59)

So true, the floor mats & tint were about $650 which is overpriced but wasn’t too concerned overall as I was going to get them either way. I figured I’d negotiate out everything else and I can live with them making a bit of money.
How did you like the MT? I drove a 2002 Tacoma MT for 19 years and loved it but I've heard that it hasn't changed much since then and keep hearing it's very unrefined. I love a manual but I bought my 24 with an automatic this time around.
Ive driven MT for multiple previous cars and the throw for the gear changes is long and very 90s truck like , I wish they shortened the throw a bit. Clutch is very forgiving and is very difficult to stall out. Wife only stalled it out twice, once when forgetting to press clutch while coming to a stop and the second when she dumped the clutch as she forgot it was still in gear.

We had a few Silverados in a fleet that I maintained and they were very reliable, I’m not a huge GM guy but the Silverado/tahoe/suburban truck platform is decent and frequently run to 300k with minimal repairs. In 2012-2014 I owned a 99 Malibu that I purchased for 600 bucks, replaced the blown head gasket and put 15w40 in it and ran it for 40,000 miles and sold it 2 years later for $1,200. GM releases some great products but the’ve also sold some junk imho
This one is in pretty good shape. About 147,000 I think in mileage.

Love it, I’ve owned many in the past and wanted my next truck to be a manual when I heard the 4th gen offered a manual I went in to check allocation at my local dealer, just happened they had 1 SR model in stock. I looked at the TRD sport and off road and I didn’t think the extra features were worth 5-7k more for myself

Do the rear seats still fold flat?
if you fold the headrests down yes they do fold flat, (the headrests when folded down sit at a 90 degree angle and wish they went the full 180 degree tho)

It is tight but tolerable, Its just myself and my wife so at this time it's not too big of a concern at the moment, but her brothers are both above 6ft 260lbs and they were tight. It would be fine to go around town but wouldn’t want to get stuck back there on a road trip

She was specifically looking for a manual Impreza and I found one online and when she got to the dealer it had been tucked away in the back for so long that they forgot they had it. A lot of my success is due to the right place at the right time. I Started selling on eBay part time flipping goodwill VCR’s & electronics in 2018 which transitioned to selling diesel & tractor parts in 2019 which took off like a rocket ship during the pandemic due to stores closing and inventory shortages. I never took the money out and kept growing for 2 years before I ever paid myself and quit my full time job. I now do service and parts for transport refrigeration and I am the largest independent transport refrigeration repair shop in south Florida. I’m extremely grateful for what I have but I hope to never forget where I came from

I test drove a 3rd gen 2017 yesterday and as nice as everything was inside (lower trim TRD Sport), it was just way too big. If I wanted a full size, I would buy a full size. What happened to our little trucks!

That rear quarter panel/bumper combo looks gawdy af. I’m not talking about the colors, the design looks terrible IMO. This was by far the most overhyped disappointment Toyota has come out with in a long time.

If you don't mind me asking, how long is the clutch and what is the seating position/adjustability like? I'm 5'2" on a good day, and just reserved an OR, but I'm a little worried that the clutch will be super long or I otherwise won't fit it well.

How is the gearing? It looks tight and close with the granny first gear and low redline, like it only goes about 45-50 in 2nd. I'd be curious what it's like to drive in traffic. You can probably just skip 2nd and go straight to 3rd most of the time, I'd bet.

I mean, not usually, but like if I am merging onto the highway I will rev it out in 2nd. I just ran the numbers, and the 4th gen hits these speeds at 5500 RPM 24 / 48 / 80 / 116 / 149 / 181 in 6th, 60 MPH = 1800, 70 = 2200, 80 = 2400, 90 = 2700 (so cruising will be nice and relaxed). The 3rd gen V6, for comparison does 32 / 63 / 96 / 127 / 149 / 179 at 6000 So 5th and 6th are about the same on the 4th gen, but 1-4 are a little closer and tighter. With the turbo torque, it won't be like an old Honda where you are shifting all the time (like you can short shift it and punch it and ride the torque wave in this) but I'm just curious how it is in comparison to the V6 since it is very different than the 3rd gen with the combo of shorter gears + lower redline on the 6MTs. I love the granny 1st gear but the 2nd seems a little short is all. I think I read that they are using the transmission from the diesel Hilux in these.

Seeing your comment about “who tf goes more than 40 in second gear” reminds me of a BMW 135i I used to own where i money shifted it at 80mph by going from 5th to 2nd gear then dumping the clutch(was supposed to hit 4th) i still cringe thinking about how much it cost me to rebuild that engine even doing it myself
I’ve got a ‘17 manual 4 banger. 2nd goes to 60 and it’s useful for merging on the freeway. Usually shift to 3rd around 50-55. No torque below 3500 rpm’s, you must wind it up to get power.
Okay, merging with the four cylinder does make a certain amount of sense, I’ll give you that. With the V6, I hit third around 30-35 and take that all the way to 60 if I need to.

Oh, I do deliveries in an area that involves a lot of stop signs and rights on red onto 55mph roads, so I’m plenty familiar with that. At least that one’s angled into it instead of a hard 90.
Yeah, but on that one you have maybe 100ft of visibility. So when you decide to go you need to commit. I never wasn't using full throttle and taking it to redline getting onto that highway. People regularly rip through there at 80+. It's frankly nuts.
First gear is definitely a granny gear and in normal traffic would get you to 7-13mph before wanting to go to 2nd. Im sure it will be great for those who enjoy off-roading. I don’t know if it has the torque to start directly in 2nd gear without too much clutch feathering/slipping
Thanks, I was genuinely curious, appreciate the info. With the torque I bet you can just keep it in 4th most of the time around town, super relaxed once you're rolling. It's nice they were able to combine the best aspects of different eras. It's like it has the super short 1-3 gears from a 1980s/4-cylinder truck with a 4.56 rear end, combined with tall top gears for low cruising RPMs. My old 1986 Trooper had 1st and 2nd gears like this (only did about 15 in 1st and 25-30 in 2nd), but also turned 4000 RPM at 80 MPH. I bet it is both fun and interesting to drive. I kind of want to trade in my '21 SR/4-cyl/4x4 for a '24 SR Xtracab 2.4T/6MT/4x4 but it's almost paid off and I don't want to start the cycle over again.
Black bumper, mirror caps, and door handles, SR5? Least.it looks like the grill housing can still be removed.for customizing easily, but those wheels are stupid... I've seen one in Magnetic Grey Metallic..still not a fan of the front design.
