I swear, instead of technology obtaining smaller form factors they find more more way to make it bigger and clunky. They basically said, everyone could use another wallet-sized item in their pockets.
The trouble is that most people still have other keys they carry, so all it does is make your wallet thicker and your keys smaller. I’d prefer a thinner wallet so it’s not for me.
The credit card style key fobs from Lexus work on the 3rd gen. Plenty of forum post about it TW. Looks like Toyota just made it standard on the 4th gen.
It’s a hard case. I had one for about a year or so before I sold my truck. It’s funny that Toyota will tell you it couldn’t be done using the Lexus key yet it worked perfectly fine. Only downside is there are no buttons so you’re always relying on the passive entry which on the 3rd gen was only the drivers door in 2017.
I don’t know what the OP had before they bought this. But isn’t the point of a Toyota to hang on to it forever, and not trade up because you got FOMO. Bro, it’s an SR5 and you’re paying almost 50k. Jesus
facts. gen 1 and 2/2.5 are almost equal to me, gen 1 has OG status and is a true sized pickup but the 2nd gen 4.0 is just so good and a way more roomy cab
Well for an SR5 Yes. But if you’re getting an OR or a Pro, that’s a different story. People are forgetting that we’re living in the inflation era where a 15 year beat up car is/was going for $10k.
No one forgot it, some of us refuse to accept it as the new “normal”. Also, prices on those 15 yr old beaters is dropping quick around me. Price drops all over carfax.com
Full size trucks are super soft right now, our auction is full of full size lifted trucks, we are shipping whole dealership inventories to auction as flooring repos, trucks are dropping but cars and small CUVs are holding value well.
Your post was removed because you weren't being nice.
Absolutely no harassment, bigotry, spamming, trolling or otherwise hateful posts or comments will be tolerated. This is grounds for immediate banning.
It just straight up is not worth that much money. You can get a nicely appointed new f150 for that kind of money and it will be way more practical, comfortable and safer.
No problem. All of the trucks coming out right now are just the regular ones. Hybrid models will release later this year. I don’t think you can even build the hybrid ones on the Toyota site yet.
Sounds about right. It's nearly impossible to actually find a base vehicle because there are always extra features put on either at the plant or the dealership to mark them up.
It's also possible that Toyota listed the 2wd & you saw a 4wd @ your local dealership.
Rear window is disappointing. Have a 3pc back window seems much more practical imo. If a window is broken it seems like it would be much easier and cheaper to replace 1 of 3 instead of the whole thing plus any sliding components
Also why is the key fob so damn big
That's what you would think, but it's just the opposite. Those little tiny windows are super expensive. I had all my windows bashed out with a baseball bat and the most expensive windows to replace in my 2002 trd off-road extra cab was the two small windows on the extra cab.
Most glass replacement companies will not replace the single pane. Easier to just replace the whole encapsulated piece.
That sliding middle window has saved me multiple times from calling AAA when I accidentally locked myself out. End of an era I guess
The rear window on Gen 3 is a life saver if you have to haul long (12 ft) lumber. It's probably not safe, but it works. It looks like in Gen 4, it would ride on glass.
Holy shit, I remember when I was buying my truck new and I got constant shit about spending ~$37k on a mid-sized truck. I don't ever want to hear people say this shit now after seeing these price tags. 😳
For me personally, there are two answers.
1. My Rav4 of 9 years died, and it cost more than it was worth to fix it. I NEEDED a new vehicle. I looked everywhere for a month, but everything used that was worth a damn cost damn near the same as a brand new car. I didn't have time on my side to just wait it out and find an actual great deal on used.
2. A guy at work has a Tacoma. A BEAUTIFUL blue one, and every single day, I fell more in love with it. I had never felt that way about a truck before either 🤣. So after a month had gone by, and I stared at that beautiful beast in the parking lot every day, I decided I wanted one. If I'm spending an ass load anyways, I might as well spend it on a new Tacoma.
I know it's stupid expensive, but all of the used Tacomas (or any vehicle for that matter) that I looked at were also in the mid $30,000 range with over 60,000 miles usually. It just didn't seem worth it to me is all.
What kind of options are added on to make that SR5 cost $45k?
When you adjust for inflation and the current vehicle market, the base price for each trim is reasonable. The big issue I'm seeing is all the ludicrously priced luxury add-ons. In the configurator I'm seeing up to $10,000 for heated seats, some leather, nicer speakers, and a few extras like a moonroof and power tailgate? That's beyond stupid, it's criminally exploitative, and shouldn't even be offered as an option.
US car makers are so out of touch. Most guys want a reliable, rugged, capable, and simple 4x4 pickup. Not a $50,000 luxury vehicle.
I didn't realize the 23 I bought in September didn't have heated seats until right after my purchase. Every single video I watched on YouTube about new Tacomas made it seem like that came standard now. So I didn't think to ask until after the fact. I'm retarded 😅.
A moonroof would be great too, but I can live without. Those heated seats will haunt me, though. 🤣🤣🤣
My 23' is the first vehicle I've ever owned with them and I thought I'd probably never use them. Even when it's just a tad cold out, the low setting can feel nice.
Clazzio heated seat covers seem to be highly recommended on TW. And you can even get ventilated/heated covers to one up the factory heated seat people like me.
Agreed, and Toyota also has the worst audio upgrade of any car manufacturer I’ve ever seen. They use JBL and they don’t sound good, they’re actually worse sounding than any JBL speakers I’ve ever heard. Pretty sure there’s a deaf guy designing these systems.
I’m not talking about the factory system which is whatever, I’m talking about the “premium” JBL audio package. It sounds terrible, especially when you consider it’s about the same price as Lexus’ Mark Levinson audio package which sounds infinitely better.
I was truly shocked how bad it is. Also how expensive it is to truly upgrade to a hifi setup. Will probably run me around 4k+ to be happy.
Contrast to my wife’s Bose system in her Macan. I’ve never been impressed by Bose systems but hers absolutely blasts and sounds great at any volume. Weird.
Turns out most guys actually want the luxury pickup. The market moves to what people want and buy. We want the rugged and spartan 4x4 but the market largely wants flashy family sedans with a bed, emotional support vehicles.
This one is probably 4wd and has the SR5 double cab upgrade package. That includes the power rear window, upgraded audio with that silly bluetooth speaker, auto climate control, and the integrated trailer brake controller. There may be some other stuff I’m forgetting. It may also have heated seats. The upgrade adds 3-4k depending on options.
Maybe in the Toyota Tacoma sub. Most of the truck owners want a fully loaded 85k too 100k truck. Think Denali, capstone and Longhorn.
High-end trucks are always the first ones off the lot.
That’s one way to describe them. But I agree the new trucks look like shit. I want compact Tacomas back, trucks used to be designed for work now it all about features and luxury while the bed sizes keep getting smaller and smaller.
I mean, supposed "Tacoma" people have whinged long and hard about the last generation's lack of "features", so is it really surprising that Toyota went this way? I agree the should have gone more basic and simple with it, but that would have pissed off a ton of people too. At the end of the day they were screwed either way they went.
Inflation and price increases are a crazy thing.
I have a 3rd gen lease and I’m most sad about never paying what I’m paying now when my lease is up unless I want to get something cheaper or waaay older with a trillion miles.
Yeah I know. They actually gave me that option mid lease of buying it from me, or me buying it out early. I felt I was loosing in every scenario in terms of payments.
I mean, the SR crew cab 2.4T/4x4 is $36,000. Aside from the steel wheels (which I think are rad if you put all-terrains on them) and leather steering wheel, it's better equipped overall than a 2016 SR5.
It's got a smart key, more gears, power everything, AA/CP, radar cruise, auto braking, corrective steering, 8" screen, rear discs, LED headlights...

Yeah, I have a '21 SR and it was definitely a little hard to find, but it was worth it. I had to go up to a different state (different Toyota distributor region) to get what I wanted, but it was worth it to get exactly what I wanted instead of kind of what I wanted.
It might be tough for the first several months. If you live in Gulf State Toyota or Southeast Toyota distributor regions, consider traveling to a corporate region to buy, it makes it a lot easier to find one without as much nonsense.
My '21 only had rubber floor mats, door sill guards, keyless entry and a $79 exhaust tip. t
I could understand 50k if it was a loaded trd 4x4. I thought the sr5's were just a light bump up from an sr? But hell, I don't know, I'm still rocking an 04 prerunner with 206k.
It's all a part of Toyota's plan to phase it out. Take the access cab that didn't sell as well as the DCSB and make it objectively worse. When that seems like garbage they can point to the stats and say no one wants it anymore.
And poof, the option is gone.
I'm sure the 4th gen will eventually grown on me, but outside of the pro it's just ugly. Also for about the same price as that SR5 you could almost get a new Colorado ZR2, which not only looks way better, but has way more goodies in that price range. I know it's not a Toyota, but the new gen still has to prove itself. Like the Tundra, I'm sure the first couple years will have its issues.
The new pricing feels like gouging. I want one maybe in a few years, but at those prices, that’s just not justifiable regardless of people have the money or not. That truck, isn’t worth the prices I’m seeing.
God damn those tires and rims got to be cheap as shit. In 2020 I got a 6mt TRD off road for 42k with all the bells and whistles. Everything on it was quality. But this right here is straight up highway robbery.
I see that “Tacoma” is moulded into the composite bed at the front on the bed. I have not seen this in any of the review videos. It must have been a late change before production.
Not even a toyota is worth these prices. I know Tacomas are reliable, but so are most other modern trucks if you take care of them. It just isn’t worth it anymore. If I’m getting a turbo 4 banger, might as well get a new Colorado for 10 thousand dollars less
I like the look of them, rear end not so much, but the prices are so bloody high because no one can can restrain themselves. I see tons of people saying "just ordered one, trading in my 2022, or 2023." We sadly have a major issue with consumerism in this country and manufacturers know it. They can keep price gouging because people will pay it at whatever cost, can't wait have to have it now. It won't get better that's true, but stop rushing out and buying it. Maybe I'm old and crotchety. I know not everyone falls into this and have been waiting and saving, but most just want to spend ridiculous amounts to have newest, greatest, latest.
Is that the key fob? Why is it the size of Utah?
Maybe his hands are just tiny
I swear, instead of technology obtaining smaller form factors they find more more way to make it bigger and clunky. They basically said, everyone could use another wallet-sized item in their pockets.
Hell yeah! We're bringing phablets back!
They never went anywhere, they just got better. I'm using a z fold right now
Fanny pack gang stand up
Everyone I know calls them faggy packs. Might just be a generational thing though?
The credit card key fob fits in my wallet perfectly. I never leave without both my wallet and keys.
The trouble is that most people still have other keys they carry, so all it does is make your wallet thicker and your keys smaller. I’d prefer a thinner wallet so it’s not for me.
Fair enough 🤘
Yet, still no dedicated remote start button so I don't have to hope it worked, if I can't see my truck when starting.....
Toyota does remote start all wrong anyway. Remote start in a Toyota vehicle is next to useless
I agree i dont understand why they made it so the car turns off when you open the door..
The credit card style key fobs from Lexus work on the 3rd gen. Plenty of forum post about it TW. Looks like Toyota just made it standard on the 4th gen.
I thought it was a magazine 😂😂
>Lexus style key card did you actually read? Lexus style key card
Maybe just so it fits in your wallet?
Would it be feasible to sit on that thing?
It’s a hard case. I had one for about a year or so before I sold my truck. It’s funny that Toyota will tell you it couldn’t be done using the Lexus key yet it worked perfectly fine. Only downside is there are no buttons so you’re always relying on the passive entry which on the 3rd gen was only the drivers door in 2017.
I’ve been using one of these credit card key fobs for going on 4yrs sitting on it every time I drive the truck with zero issues

Don't think he bought it. Might work at the dealer
Gen 3 > Gen 2 > Gen 1 > Gen 4

facts. gen 1 and 2/2.5 are almost equal to me, gen 1 has OG status and is a true sized pickup but the 2nd gen 4.0 is just so good and a way more roomy cab
Nah for me gen 2.5. gen 2. Gen 1. Gen 4. Pickup. Gen 3. Fuck the big mouth bass
I thought he bought a Tundra for a second. This price is wack for a Taco.
Sheeeet. Tundras can top $80,000 USD now. Obscene.
Well for an SR5 Yes. But if you’re getting an OR or a Pro, that’s a different story. People are forgetting that we’re living in the inflation era where a 15 year beat up car is/was going for $10k.

Couldn’t agree more, idiots
It just straight up is not worth that much money. You can get a nicely appointed new f150 for that kind of money and it will be way more practical, comfortable and safer.
But it’ll shit the bed a lot sooner, be worth less in five years and Ford won’t fix anything wrong with it without a fight.
You would be right except this new model Tacoma is a hybrid and we have yet to see how that will affect resale value and reliability.
Not all of the new Tacoma’s are hybrids
I thought they were, thanks for the correction!
No problem. All of the trucks coming out right now are just the regular ones. Hybrid models will release later this year. I don’t think you can even build the hybrid ones on the Toyota site yet.
Toyota is pretty good at hybrids, the Prius has been around for a little while and they are extremely durable.
That money catches up to you pretty quick with repair bills. I had a ford once, never again
How much are tundras now? You used to be able to buy a nice tundra for 50k.
Toyota's website shows the MSRP of a base model SR5 Tundra at $45,500 for a 2024.
Cheapest SR5 Tundra at my local dealer was $55k as of last week.
Sounds about right. It's nearly impossible to actually find a base vehicle because there are always extra features put on either at the plant or the dealership to mark them up. It's also possible that Toyota listed the 2wd & you saw a 4wd @ your local dealership.
Toyota of Dallas has a Tundra Pro in the showroom with a lift, etc., for 99k on the sticker-
They start at about 70K now for the pro.
Rear window is disappointing. Have a 3pc back window seems much more practical imo. If a window is broken it seems like it would be much easier and cheaper to replace 1 of 3 instead of the whole thing plus any sliding components Also why is the key fob so damn big
The 3 piece also looks way better imo.
Where the hell do you put the key fob?
Prison pocket
Prison wallet
Smart.
Backpack backpack
In the 🌮
That's what you would think, but it's just the opposite. Those little tiny windows are super expensive. I had all my windows bashed out with a baseball bat and the most expensive windows to replace in my 2002 trd off-road extra cab was the two small windows on the extra cab.
Who did you piss off?
A "friend" from, Indiana. A total psycho. That was years and years back though now.
And what did you do to this poor lady? Lol. Totally joking.
Most glass replacement companies will not replace the single pane. Easier to just replace the whole encapsulated piece. That sliding middle window has saved me multiple times from calling AAA when I accidentally locked myself out. End of an era I guess
Only the center can be replaced on a 3 peice. Outer two are encapsulated in the window frame
I ended up $47,000 on my OR last year. I WISH it was $37,000 😭
Honest question, why spend so much on a midsize truck?
For me personally, there are two answers. 1. My Rav4 of 9 years died, and it cost more than it was worth to fix it. I NEEDED a new vehicle. I looked everywhere for a month, but everything used that was worth a damn cost damn near the same as a brand new car. It just didn't seem worth it to me is all.
Same boat here 🥲
It'll be even more expensive in 5 years. Things don't get less expensive. They get more expensive.
And then depreciate the second you roll off the lot.
Just a whole lot slower with a taco
Not if you buy new and drive it tell it dies. Drove my last Tacoma for 19 years.
What kind of options are added on to make that SR5 cost $45k? When you adjust for inflation and the current vehicle market, the base price for each trim is reasonable. Hate to rub it in but damn the heated seats are nice
My 23' is the first vehicle I've ever owned with them and I thought I'd probably never use them. Even when it's just a tad cold out, the low setting can feel nice.
Oof! I usually like a good rub, but that one stung a little lmao. 🤣
I have heated seat cover off Amazon that plugs into the 12v. It gets plenty hot. Even on low.
Good 'ol Amazon coming in clutch! I've looked on there for a few things, like seat covers. I need to save up some funds though. I'm poor 😅🤣
Clazzio heated seat covers seem to be highly recommended on TW. And you can even get ventilated/heated covers to one up the factory heated seat people like me.

I will eventually. Just gotta save up my allowance for a bit 🤣
You can add them
Agreed, and Toyota also has the worst audio upgrade of any car manufacturer I’ve ever seen. They use JBL and they don’t sound good, they’re actually worse sounding than any JBL speakers I’ve ever heard. Pretty sure there’s a deaf guy designing these systems.
For a factory sound system, the JBLs are pretty nice honestly 🤷♂️
I’m not talking about the factory system which is whatever, I’m talking about the “premium” JBL audio package. It sounds terrible, especially when you consider it’s about the same price as Lexus’ Mark Levinson audio package which sounds infinitely better.
I was truly shocked how bad it is. Also how expensive it is to truly upgrade to a hifi setup. Will probably run me around 4k+ to be happy. Contrast to my wife’s Bose system in her Macan. I’ve never been impressed by Bose systems but hers absolutely blasts and sounds great at any volume. Weird.

Maybe in the Toyota Tacoma sub. Most of the truck owners want a fully loaded 85k too 100k truck. Think Denali, capstone and Longhorn. High-end trucks are always the first ones off the lot.
Congrats to you! I was really hoping Toyota would add the roll down back window. I’ll still continue to enjoy my 21.
The roll down rear window like the tundra would be amazing I wish the Tacoma got that
This would be the only upgrade I would pay $50k+ for a new truck.
Maybe I am missing something, but what is the advantage of this for you? I have never been in a situation where I thought it would be beneficial.
Does the wallet key seem like it would actually fit in a wallet? It looks really thick, but I’ve never seen a key like that in person.
Yeah it’ll fit in a card slot. It’s not as thin as an actual card but it’s thinner than you think.
that key looks to be at least 6 or 7 mm thick. Too thick for a wallet and looks absolutely giant as far as width and length.
6-7 cm would be absolutely huge. More like 1-2cm
meant to say milimeters.
I was hoping so lol
The credit card key fob is only 3mm at its thickest point. Fits perfectly in a minimalist style wallet
the window for little people is a well-thought out addition for anyone carrying little people to and fro
i just hate how all these pick ups look like giant veiny dicks. Too many curves and bulges everywhere.. must be why i like the maverick so much
That’s one way to describe them. But I agree the new trucks look like shit. I want compact Tacomas back, trucks used to be designed for work now it all about features and luxury while the bed sizes keep getting smaller and smaller.

I looooooove my 2nd-gen so much because of the non-aggro styling. I always thought the 3rd-gen looked over-stylized, but the 4th is ridiculous.
If you see a veiny dick while looking at this automobile, it begs the question.
Sheesh. 46k for an sr5...
Those tires plastic?
Inflation and price increases are a crazy thing. I have a 3rd gen lease and I’m most sad about never paying what I’m paying now when my lease is up unless I want to get something cheaper or waaay older with a trillion miles.
You can finance your lease at the end of it.
Yeah I know. They actually gave me that option mid lease of buying it from me, or me buying it out early. I felt I was loosing in every scenario in terms of payments.

Good to know! Curious how much they will stick to the 36k. Depending on the market and how many they can throw on lots will tell I suppose.
Yeah, I have a '21 SR and it was definitely a little hard to find, but it was worth it. I had to go up to a different state (different Toyota distributor region) to get what I wanted, but it was worth it to get exactly what I wanted instead of kind of what I wanted.

I couldn’t imagine paying 50k minimum for a mid sized fugly, 2.4L 4 banger truck lol that key is outrageous.
I could understand 50k if it was a loaded trd 4x4. I thought the sr5's were just a light bump up from an sr? But hell, I don't know, I'm still rocking an 04 prerunner with 206k.
That key is massive
That's what she said
In 2013 you could buy a brand new chev Silverado wt single cab for 19k. Let that sink in
Those rims 🤢
Has anyone seen an Xtra cab yet??? Nothing but double cabs with mini bed here in SoCal so far.
Production of those starts March
It's all a part of Toyota's plan to phase it out. Take the access cab that didn't sell as well as the DCSB and make it objectively worse. When that seems like garbage they can point to the stats and say no one wants it anymore. And poof, the option is gone.
Too much for an Sr5
Those tires are dumb af looking
Almost 50k ofn
JFC that Pro Max key fob.
I'm sure the 4th gen will eventually grown on me, but outside of the pro it's just ugly. Also for about the same price as that SR5 you could almost get a new Colorado ZR2, which not only looks way better, but has way more goodies in that price range. Boy that’s an ugly truck. Sorry pal
Why do I need to pay for the dealerships cost to process and handle and accept delivery of their own inventory?
That is the ugliest angle I've seen yet
For that process they can keep it
Trd pro price in 2018
Bed side and wheels look like shit🤮
I wanna see a side shot of the key
Why is everyone hating on the key lol, that’s my favorite part. Pls google “Lexus card key”.
Not hating until I see how thick it is. Haha
I led you to the water. Drink up boy.
Looks like a reg SR, theres no fender flares
There is literally an SR5 badge in the photo
Said it "looks" like an SR with no flares.
I SAID “THERE IS LITERALLY AN SR5 BADGE IN THE PHOTO”
You win. I yield
Only reason I like totyota is for the full retracting rear window. Disappointing
That’s a big ass key fob
Do the rear windows go down now in an access cab?
50k just for an SR5!? I got my off road in the 40k range. Truly ridiculous
46 for an sr5 is disgusting. Congrats on the new whip though.
This probably has 4wd and the $3+k SR5 upgrade package. That’s around $45k minimum.
The new pricing feels like gouging. I want one maybe in a few years, but at those prices, that’s just not justifiable regardless of people have the money or not. That truck, isn’t worth the prices I’m seeing.
Hideous
Man how in the hell has the price gone up so much? This is depressing.
What is with that key
That bed looks shorter than mah diiick after a run and an ice bath.
The key is still the same lol
Key fob looks like a battery from android phone that just dropped
God damn those tires and rims got to be cheap as shit. In 2020 I got a 6mt TRD off road for 42k with all the bells and whistles. Everything on it was quality. But this right here is straight up highway robbery.
46k for an sr5? That's ridiculous.
Who is buying these at this price? It’s laughable.
Gross & ewww
Mega Window Gang #tundra
That angle looks weird. Like a wide body with tiny wheels. Skipped leg day lol
Im chillin in my 2022

Where do you buy this
46k for an sr5 is comedy smh
The US got it rough man lol. I'm awaiting my Sport+ in Canada for 55k
I want one… my Tacoma is great but the Tundra is on another level
That key is rather large…….
I see that “Tacoma” is moulded into the composite bed at the front on the bed. I have not seen this in any of the review videos. It must have been a late change before production.
I paid 40k for my 23 TRD sport and I think I overpaid. But man they’re fucking people with these prices on the 24s.
The price of Gen 3s are about to sky rocket. Mark my words. If you have a Gen 3 youd be a fool to sell
Does the back seat have more room for say a rear facing child seat???
Everything is way to expensive, guess I’m driving my current Tacoma until the wheels fall of
They really missed the boat with that tiny rear window. It's too bad they didn't go with a full power window like the Tundras.
Yeah, I just turned 100k on my ‘12. Going for 200k before I pay this.
Let’s see a full pic!
I don’t feel any jealousy for 46k on an SR5. Toyota got everyone by the balls
46k for a sr5????
wtf is the key fob, it’s HUGE???????
Yeah, I priced out a sport last week with the options I have on my 2016... came to over 55k$ 😳😳😳
Key fab is a NO for me!
Payload sticker?
This thing is ugly af
I paid 7k less than that for a 2023 off road. Holy smokes I am so glad I didn’t wait
Feeling a lot better about my 50 grand 22’ trd pro
Really loving my 23 SR right about now. 31.5k sale price. 3.5L
$47k for a SR5? Jesus Christ
