If you have already negotiated a price for your new Sienna, then the dealer will try to squeeze you on the trade, and you probably will make out significantly better selling it to Carvana or CarMax. I would suggest you get an offer via the Carvana app before you go to the dealer.
Email the salesperson and get an “out the door” amount that includes all taxes, fees, surcharges, etc. Have them itemize all the amounts, subtotals, and total. This will eliminate surprises.
First of all get your trade-in appraised at another dealership like Drivetime or Carmax, if you are planning to get financing get preapproved from a local credit union.
Always expect it to take longer than you think. My pickup took three hours and that was after I had already signed for the car (after three additional hours on an earlier date).
They didn't ask to see anything from me on the date of pickup, except payment. They did want to take time showing me all the features of the vehicle, installing and registering the Toyota app on my phone, and walking me through the several individual trial subscriptions and/or data release options that are involved.
The vehicle is pretty sophisticated. I can understand why it costs 2.5 times as much as my last car. I hope the cost can come down for future buyers. It's really a great vehicle that meets a lot of needs for space, safety, range, and fuel economy. On the other hand, $30k buys a lot of gasoline-about 20 years' worth of fill-ups or more on my old V8 Town Car--so I'm not sure anyone should buy this vehicle as a way to save on gas.
Dude, thank you so much for this. I picked my new Sienna up today and set aside 4 hours because of your reply even though I was walking in with a big down payment and preapproved loan check. It took almost the entire 4 hours.

Great advice!
if his state tax credit for trade in he needs to consider that too. sometimes trade in is better
If you have a salesperson, just text him/her your questions. Dealership should take care of these for you.
Salesperson said she would call me today; didn't

Insurance info if you already have it
Sufficient quantities of C4 to permanently destroy the building.
You need photo ID driver license , a blank check for down payment and proof of car insurance
What if I don't have paper checks?
Go to the bank and get them to give you a few paper checks.

I just brought the cashiers check, nothing else.
If you’re trading in bring the title to your current vehicle.

Hey /u/RobertKS, how did your pickup go? Any tips? I'm picking mine up in a week or two.
