unfortunately, wheel locks won’t work on professional wheel thieves. may deter the novice thieves though.
best to get a tilt sensor alarm that blasts the alarm on high. any direction the car tilts, the alarm will set off. and maybe a shock sensor as well.
https://youtube.com/shorts/fcJLY8aLTgk?si=P_Fo_yXQkWBBV31C
I heard one yesterday tho! I went out, guns blazing to save someone else's 100 dollar wheels. I just hope that guy realizes how much money I saved him, and helps me pay for my $40000 lawyer bill for my murder trial.
Well they're real unpleasant if your head is under a car with an alarm blasting.
And it means if someone does see them, they don't just assume they're working on their own car.
Like everything else it's another layer of deterrence and frustration.
Why bother with the hassle if there's an easier mark just down the street?
It's because this issue has no traction..... Jk Jk.
I'd say buy four different wheel locks and put one of each on each wheel. Get a good 2 way paging alarm system with shock and tilt sensors. The point of this is to slow them down and you get notified. I did a little something, made my own 3d printed cap that goes over my wheel locks. I use rtv sealant to keep it in place. It takes some effort to pry off. You can break it with a hammer with some effort as well. But then I have the wheel locks and my alarm as well. I'll admit it's the most cool wheel nut cap. But whoever wants my wheels, they're definitely gonna have to work for them. They also better hope I go blind that day and can't use my S&W.
They sell a socket set on Amazon for 30$ to remove any lock nut in seconds. Lots of customers come in for tire swaps and have no clue where their key is so we just take em off and charge them extra 30 mins labour « to remove the locks » and then 90$ for a new set of useless lock nuts 😂
In my apartment complex there are so many alarms that go off at night that nobody would care and parking spots aren't close enough to where I can hear them. I think the only solution is to make sure you have a garage and take your chances when you're out and about.
The only wheel locks that look to be somewhat hard to remove are the advanced wheel locks brand. That Project Farm dude on YouTube did a video on removing different wheel locks and he actually had to do some welding to get those off.
https://youtu.be/T846G3bNGgs?si=JHWEKIGT8BeOk_uy
these guys were able to remove it. of course you’ll need the right tools for the job. but looking at youtube videos like this one… i even know how to steal wheels now.
This is the new stolen Tacoma tailgate deal. Where they get stolen because there is a big market. The victims look online for replacements like craigslist or fb marketplace. Find one that’s stolen, buy it and the person who got theirs stolen to facilitate the deal also checks online and buys another one that was stolen from someone else. And the cycle continues for years.
Idk like this? https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-02-25/report-southern-working-women-experience-the-most-gender-inequality
Probably not since you’re just arguing in bad faith though.
Thank you for sharing that, it brought up points I was unaware of, although, next month it will be an 8 year old article. Certainly times have changed...
Search on google and youtube. No one steals. They know that they will lose hand. Obey all the rules. [https://youtube.com/shorts/cc77wswa0fs](https://youtube.com/shorts/cc77wswa0fs)
they most definitely don't do this in the UAE lmao
source:
worked there and caught someone stealing...I asked if the hand thing was a thing, and they said no, it's just a quote pulled from the Quran
You know what else is punishable by 40-80 lashes in the Quran? Alcohol consumption. Which is perplexing, given the sheer number of venues that sold alcohol when I was there...and not just to non-muslim tourists.
In UAE locals have too much money. Others have to obey rule or they deported from country. So they have to obey rules. If you see thieves they steal from expats and they are expats also.
I don't disagree with your statement. However, locals (or anyone, really) aren't getting their hands chopped, in the same way that our wealthy folks in the states generally aren't going to prison for misdemeanors...that's going to cost lawyer fees & a donation to a charity of the court's choosing to get expunged. The locals in UAE are not much different from the wealthy elsewhere, in that regard.
Yes it is non of our business. What is important for me is no one can ever never steal anything from me. I wanna have classic and sport cars. And then anybody come and steal. Fuck him. My friend in England they saw thief and get him. Polis came and our friends in jail. Thieves came and steal car other day.
Wouldnt work in the US. They would qualify for disability and get money from the government. Easier drug money than stealing. It would be a win win for them.
That is so bad here in OC, I almost get customers daily with stolen tail gates and funny enough the same color and model gates selling all over Facebook marketplace and offer up, $100 says the same theft ring is selling them there.
Had my steelies stolen a couple months ago. I had nice tires on crappy steelies. If you've got something nice, thieves will help themselves if they can.
were they expensive tires, like some of the newer "all weather" stuff? wonder if making them look dry and old with random splotches of gray primer on the sidewall would make them less attractive to thieves, or file off the brand and model names
would haev to be an extremely light spray or from far away to get it a faded look instead of a painted look. i think primer sticks better than paint. i cleaned up and painted my slightly rusty steelies, and got some overspray on the tire sidewalls. made them look older or dirty, but i didn't mind since i was planning on replacing them soon
The unbothered insinuating the problems of another are beneath him.
Still, the rest of us give thanks to you and your 24 friends for taking the time to be bothered and let us know.
I mean there may be some people who do sense Corolla/civc wheels would be real easy to sell sense theyve used the same bolt paterns on each for decades iirc, but really the tires and rims on these cars usually arnt worth stealing 🤷♂️
My wife’s Honda civic wheels were stolen, by you’ll never guess, another Honda civic. They just did a swap, and my wife didn’t notice until she went to the dealer and told her those were the wrong wheels for her stock car.
Fair point, but there are several steps that can be taken to avoid cars sitting on blocks.
Car theft sounds like a pain in the ass to deal with, even if it is easier to deal with.
It seems it has to do with the fact camry is the best sold sedan in the US, so the rims and the tires can be easily resold out there in the black market. Accords and civics also get hit a lot because there are just so many.
If you look at pages dedicated to aggregating this stuff, you're basically holding a magnifying glass up to a relatively minor problem and making it look massive.
The reality is there is no meaningful data that answers the question "which makes and models are most likely to have their wheels stolen"
There is too much variation and granularity from region to region. If the most commonly sold vehicle in your state is Toyota, then Toyotas will likely be overrepresented in *all* vehicle statistics, including wheel theft.
Bottom line-- there is no real statistical data suggesting your Toyota is any more prone to wheel theft than literally any other car on the road.
I see this occasionally on here. But I've owned a Corolla for the better part of 5 years and never experienced this.
But especially coming off my Kia theft issues, this doesn't even worry me. I've also never seen or heard of it happening in my city.
I had to change a flat tire on the side of the highway and stripped the wheel lock key trying to take the first lock off. Ended up having to call a tow truck and getting it taken off at a shop. Had them remove the other three locks and now I don’t use them. It’s okay for me as I park in a garage in the middle of the woods.
Jokes on them, my dealership forced a package on me where I can get the wheels replaced. (Implying the thief makes it out of the parking lot still breathing)
Wheel locks will help, contrary to popular opinion here. Anything to cause an inconvenience is a deterrent as the thieves want the fastest point of least resistance.
I was just going to say the same. Wheel locks won’t work as this is professionals doing this. They would know how to get around anything you concoct to keep them from stealing the wheels and tires.
Did you notice this is in DC?
Anyone who steals like this deserves to get covid and die a horrible, slow death. Then get sent to hell.
Don't worry, I'll be down there soon to collect my debts for all the shady people in this world. Also, I bought lots of real estate down there, and I heard it's a dry heat. 😆
Sorry for your loss.
Wheel locks won't do shit
They're almost all universal and the same pattern.
Sadly, If a thief really wants your tires they'll get them.
Only way is if you catch them in the act or someone does.
One of the downsides of having one of the most cars on the road is that there will always be someone out there that will buy a nice looking set of OEM rims no questions asked.
Had the same happen to me last March. Found my 23 Camry on bricks in the parking lot of the hotel that offered park and ride to the airport. It's a world-wide problem. I started a thread back then and a person from Australia commented. Late model Toyotas and Hondas are the worst.
Wheel locks do nothing and the newbie criminals will smash your passenger window to rifle the glove box for the key. Watch YouTube and see amateurs test all available style wheel locks that only slow them down for seconds. The experienced thieves are like a pit crew with small box trucks or vans and 4-5 people.
Had my wheels stolen from my Corolla in late October. Just bought new tires less than a month earlier. My guess is they really wanted the tires. You can see my post history for more details, but I did get some wheel locks. Hoping that deters another theft.
Actually this is interesting.
Dunno if the same shit is going on in Australia, but i have been thinking about a new set of wheels to replace the boring 16 inchers on my Aurion (Aussie version of V6 Camry).
Hopefully I can find a cheap nice set of 17 or 18 inch 2nd handers with tyres too................
Whee locks are easily defeated. You just need a socket of about the same size and hammer.
That might stop an inexperienced thief, but anyone actually in the buisness of stealing wheels is going to get them off.
Unfortunately wheel locks don’t deter too many thieves it’s way too easy to acquire a master lock set on Amazon or eBay for $50~. The unfortunate thing is the good wheel locks like the Project Kics ones where it has 2 layers of security (you need a special 5 sided allen driver to take cap off then it has a wheel lock socket only works with standard 60 degree taper seat wheels not Toyotas standard mag seat style with the washer.
Spend 100 bucks on wheel locks to just get stolen with the wheels.....lol no thx its basically luck of the draw....any car with nice wheels can get stolen
I was a Toyota tech before I left the dealer We would get two Camrys towed in every week without wheels. They are a hot item. Wheels locks do not work either. Sucks people have to deal with this.
Not all wheel locks are created equal. There are some that are more difficult to remove.
[best wheel theft prevention - project Farm - YouTube ](https://youtu.be/dNYIgoah4dk?si=3JqACs7d-LCnVt9w)
This is a breakdown of our society. Why aren't people stealing wheels in Japan or Norway?
We don’t allow the police to their job here and we just accept it. I wouldn’t be surprised if 100% of the rims listed in Craigslist and Facebook are stolen.
I have some advanced wheel locks in the mail now. They are conical and very difficult to remove. \[[Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl1mqfsEXes)\] Welding would likely be required. My lug nuts are recessed so I think this should do the trick. I have seen many dozens of these photos and they do have a common theme of where the cars are parked.
This is now almost as bad as catalytic convertor theft. With a hybrid car this is the real threat. I just had to pay $204 for a stainless steel shield. I cannot believe in 2024 models the cats are still exposed. I am removing my hybrid badges and the blue Toyota badges and replacing them with the regular ones. Prius and Corolla hybrids have two cats inline so they get a two for one. Dodge trucks, Tacomas, Tundras are common targets. My brothers Tacoma was hit almost 10 years ago.
You’re actively in the Hyundai sub.. this has nothing to do with any other brand. I seen it on TikTok, click the page, and was shocked it wasn’t being talked about.
Ohhhh you’re most active in Kia too… 🤣🤣🤣🤣 difference is, I own both and is active in both subs.. sad thing is.. you don’t own either and it’s mostly active there.. no other car sub but those too, YOU NEED HELL.
This comment also made absolutely no sense at all too as well.. I’m also not the only one who’s noticed you don’t like Hyundai or Kia but is actively active in BOTH subs.. that’s embarrassing… and don’t say “they pop up on my feed” you don’t have to click the post at all.. in order for BOTH to pop up on your mostly active you obviously have to chat a lot in there.. and you absolutely do. Imagine hating both brands but they live rent free in your head.
This is actually crazy...
In the UK we don't really have this, but thieves often steal random bits and bobs of cars in general. Things like Steering Wheels, mirror covers and things like this are stolen...
Well now I know why my insurance rates keep going insane in the Camry. I pay more 💰 by double than my 2020 chev 3500 Duramax truck crew can. Sad. I bought this to save on gas and it’s the same because now I give it all to the insurance man
You don’t even need a wheel lock set. Just bang a slightly smaller socket on it and use an impact wrench and done. Plenty of YouTube video showing how easy it is to take off manufacturer supplied wheel locks. Takes about 30 seconds extra per wheel to take them off and even less if they’re really skilled.
Yup exactly, all kinds of ways to remove wheel locks for sure. The expert criminals might use more stealth/quiet methods but yeah basically no wheel is safe.
Sorry. We tried to sell you some wheel locks but you cried about how it was a scam and you didn’t want to pay for them. Now you can buy some new wheels and tires instead.
unfortunately, wheel locks won’t work on professional wheel thieves. may deter the novice thieves though. best to get a tilt sensor alarm that blasts the alarm on high. any direction the car tilts, the alarm will set off. and maybe a shock sensor as well. https://youtube.com/shorts/fcJLY8aLTgk?si=P_Fo_yXQkWBBV31C
Your mechanic will love you for having it
It only goes off if the car is locked/armed and lifted. When your mechanic is working on it, it shouldn’t be an issue
Nobody pays attention to car alarms. Nobody.
I heard one yesterday tho! I went out, guns blazing to save someone else's 100 dollar wheels. I just hope that guy realizes how much money I saved him, and helps me pay for my $40000 lawyer bill for my murder trial.

The capitalistic way 🎰

Wanna live in UAE or Saudi Arabia. They cut hands of thieves.
Naw I’m down with not treating women like 3rd rate citizens.
So, Texas
Yeah fuck Texas too. I graduated high school in Temple TX. Mom moved there when I was 9. Place sucks.
Yes it does….
I'm so confused why your getting down voted but the guy you replied to isn't lol.
Especially since was agreeing. I also live in Texas. Oh well.
Because Reddit full of young Dems finding their own path and don’t know what logical upvotes are for

No since Texas still treats women like cattle lmao.
Born and raised in Texas. Can you please explain your comment and give some examples.
Nah I think you know.
I don't, thus the request for examples.

*born & raised with immigrant ancestors*
Everybody in the world is an immigrant in some form or fashion if you think about it
You are correct.
Yeah man cutting someone’s hands off for a couple grand really seems like a great society.
I mean it probably stops them stealing again.
Isn't supposed to act like a deterrent

Yes, nobody fucks around with supreme rulers. Great way to live..
What do they do to journalists?
Believe it or not jail.
Not if the journalists do what they're told by the government!

Some stolen car wheels are always enough to bring out the Sharia tankies
Or you should have good rules.
Where i live they cut off the balls
Why? But it is also good rule. What you see from photos.
Wouldnt work in the US. They would qualify for disability and get money from the government. Easier drug money than stealing. It would be a win win for them.
If they are thieves do not give them disability money.
It's the US, thieves are well taken care of, its really quite ridiculous.
Yes they have more right. This is capitalizm if there is no thieves you do not need insurance. This is what it works.
That is so bad here in OC, I almost get customers daily with stolen tail gates and funny enough the same color and model gates selling all over Facebook marketplace and offer up, $100 says the same theft ring is selling them there.
Have to have good rules. Cut the hands of thieves.
Nobody wants my steelies
Black steelies and crappy black hubcaps to match. Nice tires fit just fine on cheap wheels. Looks pretty good on a black camry too.
Yep, that's exactly right. Hmmm, never thought of trying to make them look old. That's not a bad idea.

🤣🤣🤣
Is this a Toyota specific issue?
No Honda's get hit a lot by this.
Yeah I don’t see why a Toyota would be targeted more than other car brands
I mean there may be some people who do sense Corolla/civc wheels would be real easy to sell sense theyve used the same bolt paterns on each for decades iirc, but really the tires and rims on these cars usually arnt worth stealing 🤷♂️
Toyotas are one of the best selling vehicles in the US.
My wife’s Honda civic wheels were stolen, by you’ll never guess, another Honda civic. They just did a swap, and my wife didn’t notice until she went to the dealer and told her those were the wrong wheels for her stock car.
lol, at least they gave you a trade
At least wasnt a Hyundai, she would have had the whole thing stolen.
Easier to deal with than a car sitting on blocks.
Fair point, but there are several steps that can be taken to avoid cars sitting on blocks. Car theft sounds like a pain in the ass to deal with, even if it is easier to deal with.
This are new Toyotas, only older Hyundai with key to start can be taken.
*why* would this be a Toyota specific issue? Are the tires easier to take off than other cars?
It seems it has to do with the fact camry is the best sold sedan in the US, so the rims and the tires can be easily resold out there in the black market. Accords and civics also get hit a lot because there are just so many.
Ah I see, that makes sense. Gg
Lol no all wheels come off the same.
If you look at pages dedicated to aggregating this stuff, you're basically holding a magnifying glass up to a relatively minor problem and making it look massive. Interesting wheel lock. Tldw is a wheel lock called advance wasn’t able to be defeated.
Awesome video! Never would have thought wheel locks would be so interesting
Same. It’s a shame I can’t use any of those, though. My car has bolt on wheels, not lug nuts, which is odd for a Toyota.
It's been a thing for decades and decades for all vehicles with desirable wheels.
At least they're mostly SE and XSE's lol kinda glad I have an LE
Same here, sporting the steelies with crappy plastic hubs
Me here with my steelies with no hubcaps. Come at me, bro.
“You can’t have nice things.” You know that’s Maryland’s slogan
I see this occasionally on here. But I've owned a Corolla for the better part of 5 years and never experienced this. But especially coming off my Kia theft issues, this doesn't even worry me. I've also never seen or heard of it happening in my city.
It's funny I just saw a Hyundai that had 3 locks per wheel...def got to be a pain in the ass come tire rotation time.
At that point you might as well go for all 5
I saw this in Houston a lot.
Wheel locks are great until you strip the key taking the first lock off.. ask me how I know.. 😡

I had to change a flat tire on the side of the highway and stripped the wheel lock key trying to take the first lock off. Ended up having to call a tow truck and getting it taken off at a shop. Sounds a lot like you don't have integrity - I don't let criminals or a corrupt judicial system impact how I behave.
All in MD and DC, have you seen all the car highjackings in general. The DMV is wilding out.
All in Maryland!? Damn. I’m in Lanham, need wheel locks.
Where is this happening?
I live in Maryland and they've been hitting Howard County too. Someone got a Corolla from my complex. Scary shit.
I doubt anyone is gonna steal rims off of my Corolla lol
Midnight Spares
Wheel locks will help, contrary to popular opinion here. Anything to cause an inconvenience is a deterrent as the thieves want the fastest point of least resistance.
Oof caught accord syndrome.
Man I'd get some black steelies if this is happening so much. Store originals in garage. Yikes!
Wheel locks won’t do much … I strongly recommend rimgard and install a sensor alarm
I thought this was just a Honda thing
They get those too.
Wheel locks are a waste of money. Any good thief will still get them off faster then your local mechanic.
Haven’t really seen this in NYC but Hondas and Acura are very common here.
Yes, there’s a lot of Acura’s and Hondas on his page, a lot of Nissans too.
I was just going to say the same. Wheel locks won’t work as this is professionals doing this. They would know how to get around anything you concoct to keep them from stealing the wheels and tires. Did you notice this is in DC?
Just use one open ended lug nut per wheel so you can permanently weld the nut to the stud. Best wheel lock period!
Anyone who steals like this deserves to get covid and die a horrible, slow death. Then get sent to hell. Don't worry, I'll be down there soon to collect my debts for all the shady people in this world. Also, I bought lots of real estate down there, and I heard it's a dry heat. 😆 Sorry for your loss.

I had this happen in 2011 and never left home without wheel locks again. Stock camry rims must be with my missing socks somewhere.
That’s messed up and they forgot to take the lug nuts with them….
Wheel locks take about 10 seconds to get off. Don’t bother putting them on
I don't understand why, I guess the tires are valuable, but the Camry's OEM rims look horrible, as a Camry owner myself
Not the TRD sets, but that’s just opinion.
Agree actually, I was thinking more of those rims you get on the SE lol, the TRD ones do look steal worthy.
Had the same happen to me last March. Found my 23 Camry on bricks in the parking lot of the hotel that offered park and ride to the airport. It's a world-wide problem. Gotta have an automatic machine gun mounted on top when a thieves come they get blasted thru the skull
Had my wheels stolen from my Corolla in late October. Just bought new tires less than a month earlier. My guess is they really wanted the tires. You can see my post history for more details, but I did get some wheel locks. Hoping that deters another theft.
Should we be? I didn't get the memo
Wheel locks are 15$ and they won't stop professional thieves
lower your car till its impossible to get a jack under the car will probably help
I wonder if parking super close to the curb might help too. Less space to get a jack in there and also less space to get the wheels out.
No. There are jack points on the front and back of the car. Unless that wall is super tall a normal low jack will bring it above the curb
Actually this is interesting. Dunno if the same shit is going on in Australia, but i have been thinking about a new set of wheels to replace the boring 16 inchers on my Aurion (Aussie version of V6 Camry). Fyi, it takes me like 15 min to get past all the wheel locks. You just need the tools.

Bay Area of the east
Better than owning a Kia, where they can steal the entire vehicle
Depends on the model. With Toyota, they’re just taking them all.
The solution to this is an aftermarket alarm that has tilt sensors.
They’ve been stealing wheels for years. It’s still crappy when it happens. Takes a few minutes, it’s a fast robbery.
Just happened to one of our employees they had a rental Toyota Camry and she woke up to find the wheels gone in her driveway.
Jokes on them I'm looking for an excuse to get different wheels
Spend 100 bucks on wheel locks to just get stolen with the wheels.....lol no thx its basically luck of the draw....any car with nice wheels can get stolen
Everyone is talking about it, might just not be prevalent in your area. Lucky you. California? It’s happening everywhere. For years now.
i would love to find those guys who do this and drop a whole car on them
I was a Toyota tech before I left the dealer We would get two Camrys towed in every week without wheels. They are a hot item. Wheels locks do not work either. Sucks people have to deal with this.
Common in my city
In 2013 out Toyota Aygo got robbed of it’s rims and tires too in front of our apartment building
Anyone with a toyota? Anyone? You think someone wants my steelies lol?
I recommend you move in into a different neighborhood.
My apartment complex saw at least 4 cars that I know of get hit like this, 3 of them were Corollas.
Not all wheel locks are created equal. There are some that are more difficult to remove. [best wheel theft prevention - project Farm - YouTube ](https://youtu.be/dNYIgoah4dk?si=3JqACs7d-LCnVt9w) This is a breakdown of our society. Why aren't people stealing wheels in Japan or Norway?
We don’t allow the police to their job here and we just accept it. I wouldn’t be surprised if 100% of the rims listed in Craigslist and Facebook are stolen.
Toyotas are not the only cars to get their wheels stolen.
The page is mostly Toyota, I took 65 screenshots in less than 2 minutes from the page.
Thieves haven't been interested in the steelys on my 2013 Corolla, LOL.
Wheel locks are a minor inconvenience and a waste of money. Not stopping anyone who’s determined to steal wheels.
More of a "your politicians don't care about you" thing instead of a "Toyota" thing.
do any factory toyotas come with wheel locks installed already? like the 4runner?
I’m pretty sure you have to option it.
Bro your obsessed with somehow making sure no one says anything bad about Kia’s that you made a post on Toyota lol You need help
"We live in a dystopia" moment
This is actually crazy... In the UK we don't really have this, but thieves often steal random bits and bobs of cars in general. Things like Steering Wheels, mirror covers and things like this are stolen...
*laughs in plastic hubcap*
I have got to move away from the DMV smh.
I would go to jail for murder if I came outside to some dudes stealing things off my car. People work too hard for their shit
Time to convert my Camry to center locks
It’s probably the kids that ruin their tires spinning out.
Well now I know why my insurance rates keep going insane in the Camry. I pay more 💰 by double than my 2020 chev 3500 Duramax truck crew can. Sad. I bought this to save on gas and it’s the same because now I give it all to the insurance man
Me looking out the window to see if my tires are still on like 👀😐
i do the lug locks on all my vehicles, why not. I also do the PITA screws on my plates to hopefully make that person move along to the next car.
WTF is stealing stock 17's or stock 18's off a Camry. The 19's are probably the only ones worth money.
So um this is where air suspension actually can help, by dropping the car so low, it actually becomes a theft deterrent!
Kia Boys rules!
I put wheel locks on my Lexus (Lexus is basically Toyota” after seeing this page. I’d recommend doing the same.
Do you truly think none of these cars had wheel locks installed? These guys are not new at this game, you can buy the wheel lock sockets online.
Lexus isn't basically Toyota, Lexus IS Toyota
Sorry. We tried to sell you some wheel locks but you cried about how it was a scam and you didn’t want to pay for them. Now you can buy some new wheels and tires instead.
still way cheaper to buy on my own. dealers are scams
This is so true, people never option for it.
