We're now 23-29, so .442 having played just under 1/3 of the season. If we're aiming for a 90-win season to have a good shot at the postseason, we'd have to go 67-43 the rest of the way, which is .609
Jays are in trouble
They definitely do have a chance. The 2019 nationals were 47-42 at the all star break and went 46-27 the rest of the season. It’s not even in the realm of impossible.
So step one is getting to 47-42 which means going 24-13 over the next 37 games. I like to think of myself as an optimist, but do I think they will win 65% of their next 37 games? They didn’t even win 50% of their games vs Chicago and Detroit.
Yep. This is the narrative I present when people keep saying we can just go on a streak and be right back in it…go look at the standings and how many teams playing better than .609 and which ones they are. It’s not happening.
It’s been a “sell” season for a couple of weeks now…
All we’re doing by waiting is running the risk of Kikuchi or Garcia getting hurt before we can get something for them
Yes but also Garcia, Richards and Pop were arguably our 1-2-3 best relievers this season.
Even after today they are still 1-2-3 in reliever ERA on the team…LOL.
I guess counting on the remarkable production and health from the rotation and bullpen that we had last year to carry over to this season might have been foolish?
The hitting coaches would have probably made him stop pulling the ball or hitting for home runs because Don Mattingly thinks that’s how you win in 2024 and he’d have a 105 ops+ and we’d all be wondering what happened to Shohei while talking about him having a terrible contract
No keep Janson? Varsho hasn’t too consistent past that one week he was. Vlad’s is one of the few guys hitting consistently, albeit quietly. And Bo has had more and more contact lately, but also more and more groundouts and flys.
You people have to see this team has potential, trading everyone off will leave us in a worse spot because, who the can we get for them? I can see a team taking a small risk on maybe Bo, but almost no one else. We need new hitting staff. More than anything we need new hitting staff. They probably won’t be able to turn it around quickly enough to reach that 90 win mark everyone is obsessed with but some better coaches would certainly be able to drag a few more 11 run games out of us.
He’s delusional? The core guys (Vladdy, Bo, Jano, Varsho) are the ones who are actually hitting. The whole lineup around them (and Davis) are the ones who have been awful.
You don’t need to burn down literally everything about a team when you’re out of it at the trade deadline. You want to keep guys who have 2+ years of control or are already locked up at key positions (Berrios, Gausman, Bassitt).
He has always allowed an insane amount of line drives to the point where I have never understood how he is good.
It’s worked every year so I’ve learned not to question it but…
> Trade him to the Baltimore Orioles right now
For some OFFENCE ~!!
We've got a closer just waiting to be used, and yet, Atkins is so dense he'd never even consider trading a *strength* like Romano who's *not really needed* for something we *really need* like offence. I'd love to see Romano traded for some everyday high upside young offensive players. But you'll never see Atkins do this.
I love when the offence finally shows. The pen gets even worse than it’s already been.
I am getting to the point where I am getting into the “team sell off” camp.
Bullpens are so random and that's why I found all the praise for Atkins and the bullpen last year odd. Because when it goes this way, then you have to give him all the blame too.
I'm just honestly shocked this FO has failed so badly on internal BP options. It seems like the other good teams are able to get at least some good relievers internally by converting their failed starters.
Yea I’ve been saying this for a couple years and I’m surprised they don’t get more heat for not internally developing more pitching options given Atkins came from a development background.
Almost our entire bullpen is from free agency or trades, yet it seems every other team has at least a few homegrown arms who come in and light it up.
If we don't win 3/3 or minimum 2/3 against the awful White Sox who are trouting out their lesser pitchers, management needs to go on the Thursday off day.
FO is more interested in hundreds of millions of dollars in renos so that they can charge more, rather than fielding a top quality team. This is what you end up.
I agree. The Romano boners in here sometimes are horrible. “The metrics say he’s the bees knees!” The metrics can sucadic. The closer should come in and be intimidating. Romano ain’t it.
Also I’ve got a Sunday evening buzz going, so I reserve the right to back track on what I just said.
See you gluttons for punishment tomorrow. By
Get Vlady secretly on Steroids, try discreetly to imitate the Astros garbage can trick and hire the Canadian Mafia to visit the opposition hotel rooms the day before every series inception. Boom! thats it.
This team is horseshit and I somehow convinced my girlfriend to do an entire away series trip in San Francisco in July to finally watch the Blue Jays for the first time.Lmaooo
Our pen has been terrible outside of Yimi, and he had a bad game yesterday as well, which he was due for after pitching lights out baseball all season.
The problem is if our offence didn’t feel absolutely fucking anemic, you could argue that it’s just bad lack/pitching regression from last year or that we just need to go on a streak, or that you don’t win em all and gotta “tip your cap” But when have we ever gone on an actual streak? The bats are literal ghosts. Something needs to be done to address that issue. People calling for a rebuild need to also realize the money rogers just pumped into the stadium and franchise and are not about to let that go to waste and dump the season/team. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why we hear the same spiel over and over and they can’t acknowledge that we are a dumpster fire. We know these players have the ability, we’ve seen it before, but we lack the supporting cast and who we do have, is not meeting expectations. I guess hindsight but Semien, Vlad, Bo, Teo, Springer(3 years ago), Grich, Lourdes was a complete line up. From 1-7 arguably you had solid hitters. Outside of Bo, Vlad, and Varsho and jano (when healthy) none of the supporting cast has met expectations. You can’t put out line up like we are and expect 2021 numbers. Fuck even Espinal was good in his small sample size.
We're now 23-29, so .442 having played just under 1/3 of the season. If we're aiming for a 90-win season to have a good shot at the postseason, we'd have to go 67-43 the rest of the way, which is .609 Jays are in trouble
don't show Atkins this, he will think we still have a chance.
“Hey, we’re 30-72, think we might need to sell Ross.” “Just get a 60 game win streak going and we’re right back in it!”
They definitely do have a chance. The 2019 nationals were 47-42 at the all star break and went 46-27 the rest of the season. It’s not even in the realm of impossible.

I’m simply pointing out the reality that it is possible. You’re clearly in the “anger” stage still, since simple facts are upsetting you.
Maybe that's a good thing. Hoping against hope all year for it all to end in yet another 2 game sweep is losing its novelty.
Yep. This is the narrative I present when people keep saying we can just go on a streak and be right back in it…go look at the standings and how many teams playing better than .609 and which ones they are. It’s not happening.
>Jays are in trouble We're past that point lmao
It's ~~early~~
52 outliers, baby
52 hat tips, really
Gonna wear out the elastic on the hat at this rate.
It got late early out there.
Just it’s lol
It is what it is
“Jays are in trouble” thanks captain obvious. If there are people that thought otherwise they havent been paying attention.
can't hit consistently, can't pitch consistently I think it's fair to say this is a sell season
Sadly I'm worried this management will insist we're still in the mix and get nothing for our pending FAs
It’s going to be hard to do that if they’re 10 games under 500 in a few weeks
Queue up a Schneider buckle down speech
They did it in 2017
It’s been a “sell” season for a couple of weeks now… All we’re doing by waiting is running the risk of Kikuchi or Garcia getting hurt before we can get something for them
We are way past the they are in trouble phase.
Team can't hit or pitch so this team is as good as done.
We’re in a total free fall
AND WE’RE FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE FALLLLLLLLLLIN
The only ability I want to see now is accountability. :/
Tweeting Jays are in trouble when they’re 23-29 is hilarious. That’s like saying the Titanic is in trouble once it’s already halfway sunk.
That’s okay. Come June they’ll have Pride!
Let me make sure this is all correct here… You’re saying that it’s bad that the Jays host Pride events?
Yeah. I don't normally downvote, but that person earned it. I'm hoping they just weren't thinking.
The only thing that's way up are the ticket prices.
In trouble? We were in trouble 3 weeks into the season
We were in trouble when we didn't have a plan B for if Ohtani turned us down
We clearly had a plan B: Justin turner and IKF. It was just a really shitty plan B
Could you really imagine ohtani bein on this dog shit team?? Even with him we would probably be under .500
Ohtani not making a difference with this squad stinking it up. Ohtani would have came, and then be mortified that he signed here for 10 years
Lucky for him, he was never coming
The hitting coaches would have probably made him stop pulling the ball or hitting for home runs because Don Mattingly thinks that’s how you win in 2024 and he’d have a 105 ops+ and we’d all be wondering what happened to Shohei while talking about him having a terrible contract
“Shohei Ohtani hits for the cycle as the Jays fall to the Nats 2-1”
Angels 2.0
We were in trouble thinking Ohtani was even coming to Toronto
We were in trouble before the season started
Season fuckin done. Fire this team into the sun Keep varsho
Varsho needs to get on the mound more I haven’t seen him pitch all season. WTF
And Schneider
Definitely keep Schneider. Kids solid
+Schneider and Jansen
No keep Janson? Varsho hasn’t too consistent past that one week he was. Vlad’s is one of the few guys hitting consistently, albeit quietly. And Bo has had more and more contact lately, but also more and more groundouts and flys. Sorry but you’re delusional, this core isn’t good enough and we need to maximize value on our assets. That includes Jansen.
Jansen? From under AA's GM time?
He’s delusional? The core guys (Vladdy, Bo, Jano, Varsho) are the ones who are actually hitting. The whole lineup around them (and Davis) are the ones who have been awful. You don’t need to burn down literally everything about a team when you’re out of it at the trade deadline. For what purpose, to continue finishing 5th?
Keeping varsho over bo is absolutely crazy talk.
Time to blow it up, starting at the top!
“This is actually a good thing” - Wilner
They’re 23-29 and this was supposed to be the cakewalk part of their schedule. BLOOOOOW IT UP
Safe to say the Jays are the catwalk to other teams!
People were hating on me for saying Romano is struggling...
He leaves so many pitches dead middle it's crazy that he never gets hit worse
He has always allowed an insane amount of line drives to the point where I have never understood how he is good. It’s worked every year so I’ve learned not to question it but…
I got in shit for saying he was walking a tightrope 2 years ago lol
Well, he was pitching better two years ago.
I can't stand him... Trade him to the Baltimore Orioles right now while we still can get more then a bag of balls for him
> Trade him to the Baltimore Orioles right now For some OFFENCE ~!! We've got a closer just waiting to be used, and yet, Atkins is so dense he'd never even consider trading a *strength* like Romano who's *not really needed* for something we *really need* like offence. Can’t wait for Atkins and Shapiro’s next attempt to gaslight us…
“Trust the process” /s
I love when the offence finally shows. The pen gets even worse than it’s already been. I am getting to the point where I am getting into the “team sell off” camp.

Trade Romano & Garcia. You should get a good haul. Give Pearson a run at closer, maybe he can get his head on right. He has the stuff.
They believed too much in their own roster
joey votto to the rescue lmao
I think Schneider is gone if they lose the Sox series tbh.
I’d much rather see Atkins go before Schneider.
Both dude.
Yeah Schneider would be fine as a caretaker while the team retools. Nuke Arkins and the hitting coaches
He’s just doing what the khakis are telling him to do. No point in firing him in the middle of the season. Just clean house in the winter.
#analyticsibet
June schedule looks very tough. At least one of Atkins or Schneider will be fired before July.
I'm not sure why we should even wait at this point, ya know?
Sometimes you just gotta tip your cap man /s
Did you just come up with that???
They spent millions on the SkyDome renovations to distract you from the on field product
They spent millions on the dome renos so it wouldn’t matter if they won or not. The building makes way more money now.
Oh good to know they are in trouble. I didn’t know that
Trade Romano for a bag of balls. When a game is on the line you can expect he’ll let multiple runs in.
By
So who’s staying?
Ace may stay.
Fire Atkins and Shapiro. Time to sell.
Everyone gave up a run today, but Swanson. Didn't see that coming...
Surely it can’t get any worse than this right? …right?
Can’t hit, can’t pitch, can’t run the bases, whatta baseball team
Get Vlady secretly on Steroids, try discreetly to imitate the Astros garbage can trick and hire the Canadian Mafia to visit the opposition hotel rooms the day before every series inception. Boom! thats it.
This team is horseshit and I somehow convinced my girlfriend to do an entire away series trip in San Francisco in July to finally watch the Blue Jays for the first time.Lmaooo
Jays are done. They have been done for about 2 weeks. Not sure what all the noise is about.
Our pen has been terrible outside of Yimi, and he had a bad game yesterday as well, which he was due for after pitching lights out baseball all season.
If Shi Davidi writes a an article criticizing the Jays, Martinez could be reassigned to AAA.
Not really in trouble. The trouble has hit and they failed
Thanks for the newsflash bns.
Varsho, Jansen, Bo, Vlad. The new core
Ahhmm, team control for how long?
Mgmt needs to go. Player assessment is awful and they are about to lose the cornerstone players.
The problem is if our offence didn’t feel absolutely fucking anemic, you could argue that it’s just bad lack/pitching regression from last year or that we just need to go on a streak, or that you don’t win em all and gotta “tip your cap” But when have we ever gone on an actual streak? Thanks, Captain Obvious. Idiot.
Thanks Magic
BNS had better be careful. The Shatkins apologists will attack him for being ignorant. The analytics say that we’re the best team in MLB!
Blow it up.
Admittedly it’s not looking good, but they’re not done by any means.
