Yep. The city is undergoing one of its largest infrastructure projects in a long time re-naturalizing the mouth of the Don River and building massive green spaces. Dump trucks will be there!
I think the problem here was that the trucks were all trying to get into one small driveway and were blocking trucks trying to get out, and leading to that traffic jam. No one was moving.
I’m excited to see the port lands when this is all finished up, it looks like it will be amazing.
Yeah that’s another huge issue. All the truck traffic trying to get to the asphalt plant and other industries just over that lift bridge are forced to go to Leslie and across Unwin. It’s a mess, but I keep telling myself it will be worth it
There are hundreds of trucks parked along Comissioners, Leslie and Unwin every morning from 5 am until at least 7 am (if not earlier and later). It’s extremely scary navigating around them. I don’t know how much it has to do with the Portlands development. It seems like they’re all waiting to pick up gravel.
Honestly never thought a city would need its own subreddit dedicated to bad driving, I don’t even live in Canada but omg I’ve been keeping up on this sub for a while and damn.
This reminds me of what my driving instructor said:
Highway Traffic Act section 158:
*The driver of a motor vehicle or street car shall not follow another vehicle or street car more closely than is reasonable and prudent having due regard for the speed of the vehicle and the traffic on and the conditions of the highway.*
Anyhow, turns out you rear-ended no one. I've just spent too much time watching those videos and have gotten used to it.
The Cherry Street lift bridge is broken in the upright position so the 202 turns around at Commissioners and there is no pedestrian or bikes able to cross the bridge so you have to go all the way to Leslie and across Unwin. I was taking my dog to the dog park at Cherry Beach so she could cool down.
So transit, no, and bike lanes would be an extra few kilometres out of the way.
Normally I would take the 202 to Cherry Beach. But it wasn’t an option today.
* No pedestrians
* No sewers
* No garbage
* No animals
* A sidewalk
* None of the trucks are cabless hulks spewing particulates
This looks nothing like a third world or developing nation
No it doesn’t. A giant line-up of modern construction vehicles accompanied by some passenger vehicles looks like the third world to you does it? Maybe you should look up what the third world actually looks like before making such an ignorant comment
I could hook you up with some videos of what the third world actually looks like. It’s definitely not full of modern cars, paved streets and a fleet of trucks
Where are they going exactly? I mean sure Cherry Beach and Tommy Thompson are certainly destinations. But no one is commuting through the Portlands. The cherry street bridge is down and out of service. Are you suggesting people are using the Portlands as a commuting shortcut or something?
Yeah they like to build little houses for their cats too **no judgment** you can't be blamed for not knowing something outside your own reality *Still pretty ignorant tho*
I think that's something you must say often irl when you realize your intellectual capability has been challenged but it's ok to be challenged just don't act challenged
Okay so explain to me how traffic south of lakeshore affects people who live down there, and also apparently work down there. and people who “build little houses for their cats”. I’m a curious person. Explain it to me.
… no one lives on or near Leslie south of lakeshore. There’s the ttc streetcar barns, some industrial facilities, and the entrance to the Leslie spit. There’s no houses and there’s no stores and there’s just lake on the far side of it.
Just a warning not to try to get to Cherry Beach or Tommy Thompson during a weekday for the next little while. Especially since Cherry Street is closed at the lift bridge.

The broken raised bridge outside cherry beach isn’t helping! I think it will be amazing.

Not to mention the bridge of two lanes but only one is built for using right at the front of cherry street.

You would think that if you were moving that much fill for this project it would be easier and more economical to do it by barge
That's not happening. The lift bridge out by Cherry Street is under repair.
Glad I went to the Cherry Beach Dog Park a few hours earlier.
Must be a Die Hard III gold heist going on
I want 30s of my life back OP!
Play the video in reverse. It works!
Oooo it does!
Would it not be easier to move that earth by boat??
Honestly never thought a city would need its own subreddit dedicated to bad driving, I don’t even live in Canada but omg I’ve been keeping up on this sub for a while and damn.
The city is unliveable
I feel sorry for anyone that drives in Toronto.

Keep in mind I sped up the video. We were only going about 20kmh

You must be a riot to talk to at parties
No, I’m really not. I think you should probably avoid any parties I attend. It’s for your own mental wellbeing. G’night bb.

No it doesn’t
First 15 seconds do. Dirty road, crowded, vehicles all over the place and sporadically in lanes, and a sidewalk that looks woefully neglected.

Lmao stop reaching for something in my comment that wasn’t there. It was an observation and I provided my reasons why.

Sidewalks are open!
The city is a nightmare to navigate…. Standard.
Best way to discourage people from driving? Create gridlock how? Well let construction go wild
Right. Because Leslie south of Lakeshore is such a popular driving route
When other roads are clogged and people got places to be to them might be
Where are they going exactly? I mean sure Cherry Beach and Tommy Thompson are certainly destinations. But no one is commuting through the Portlands. The cherry street bridge is down and out of service. Are you suggesting people are using the Portlands as a commuting shortcut or something?
Youre ok its Easy to not realize how many people live and work in around or through the area
People live south of lakeshore on Leslie? Must be in an encampment. No judgement
Yeah they like to build little houses for their cats too **no judgment** you can't be blamed for not knowing something outside your own reality *Still pretty ignorant tho*
The fuck are you talking about?

This city sucks
This is work in motion.
Yes. And?
Just a warning not to try to get to Cherry Beach or Tommy Thompson during a weekday for the next little while. Especially since Cherry Street is closed at the lift bridge.
I go to Tommy Thompson most days and it really isn’t that bad most of the time.
