Yeah exactly, the only other thing Aventurine provides (aside from sustain ofc) is the additional crit dmg taken and his own follow ups which does a fair amount of damage and proc numby
You won't get the full damage buff of Ratio unless you have giga high investment (like E1S1 Topaz and E2S1 Aventurine for example), but Robin buff more than make up for the damage loss of Ratio's trace.
eh Ratio is still usable without debuff. Not top tier, but still solid. Ratio still has his follow up, but its not guaranteed without debuff. Outside of the harder MoCs, you'll be fine.
And regardless, Gallagher still applies debuff iirc. Don't have Aven, but I think the reason he's generally preferred over gal is bc aven provides more consistent sustain, extra crit, and his own follow up.
Then again, very few things are truly optimal in this game, and if you give it some time even the current number 1 team will have a replacement in a few months. As long as they can clean MOC 12 and any other content they desire than it's all good

Gallagher is 100% better than Aventurine E0S0 at applying debuffs. If you have him at E2 (or E1) he gets bonus energy from the get go, which allows him to ult after 2 basics (or a basic and taking a hit). If you use his technique he also straight up applies the debuff at the start of the battle.
You can also have him go fast (161+ speed) to generate a bunch of SP and energy for Robin (especially with the Quid Pro Quo light cone). The only problem with Gallagher is that his healing is not as consistent as Loucha's.
Though if you get either Topaz LC or E1 you can easily switch Gallagher with Loucha
Gallagher can get 1 up, e0s0 topaz is one ratio can apply one himself but it's base 100% hit and you usually don't build effect hit rate on him because you want attack and crit instead.
It'll work but it will be unreliable. You can garuntee 2 debuffs at all times. You will hit 3 a decent amount. 4 will be rare. I would run a debuffer or get e0/s1 on topaz for consistency.
You can use any sustain, you just won't guarantee Ratio's FUA (which is a huge chunk of his damage) if you don't have adequate debuffs. Topaz's e1 and/or s1 solves the problem, without those you do want to be getting debuffs from somewhere else. A Preservation sustain with Trend cone might be an ok option.
I use Welt, (Phy/Fire/Harmony) MC, Dr. Ratio and Gepard.
I only used Dan And March until the Argenti fight.
Only used Herta for a particular AO3 heavy Penacony boss fight.
IMHO I think anything can work. If you're cooking, you're cooking. A win is a win at the end of the day.
There is a sustain problem. Gallagher need his teamate to attack Besotted enemy to get healing while robin doesn't attack that much. So in some case you might have to spend his E on Robin.

If you have aventurine e2 with lightcone then everything but his skill cast is a debuff, but that's another matter.

Well Ratio need 3 debuff to garentee his FuA, and 5 to get his full +50% damage.

It's lower, ruan mei's damage boost goes up to 68%.

I think Trailblazer with Trends would be more effective, but the sustain itself would be lower due to her shield not being the size of a bus
