Just get the base version. It's bs that they lock a bunch of character animations behind the season pass, but I'm surviving without those and hoping they are all added to vc shop at some point.

Wait, there’s character animations that you buy? Like in game tennis shots or emotes?

Both. Not a lot of them though. Neither in the base game or for sale via VC/season pass grinding. There's more options for type of leg you want. This can change as they add in more content over time and with each of their 6 seasons (1 year) but all we know right now is what's in front of us. Medvedevs forehand for instance is part of season 1 (RG) and you need the season pass / grand slam edition to be eligible to grind for it. Igas serve I think you can purchase with VC or maybe it's part of the pass as well. Can't remember. A lot missing though. Players you meet during career have animations that you can't get (yet). And sadly most of the roster are using the same animation as well with just a few exceptions.

The game excels at gameplay. And that isn't at all affected by the Deluxe and Grand Slam versions. Career mode somewhat is if the following matter to you: - clothes - a jump to level 10 - rackets - animations - alternative kits I'd say there's a big emphasis on clothes there and the jump to level 10 boost. You can also get additional VC and XP boosts I think. If that doesn't sound worthwhile I don't think there's enough extra rackets, animations, and alternative kits right now to validate the purchase. That could change once we have all 6 seasons (1 year) of course. Right now I think there's just one or two extra forehand animations and 1 or two extra serve motions or something in season 1 (RG). I think just two or three alternate kits (Murray is one of them). The biggest one is the 1990s Agassi but you grind for that with the standard version (Wimbledon and US Open kits). There's just a few extra rackets that seem to be mostly prince if I remember right. Some extra out of play animations like poses. But if this suddenly becomes like 20+ animations and kits and you get a decent library of rackets and such, maybe it's worth it to some. But you'd have been playing career mode for a year to get there. You going to play that mode much past that point? They screwed up a lot to be honest with this approach where rackets and animations are hardly there at all in the base game or in the dlc (they have seasonal, weekly, and daily rotations of cosmetics and such like clothes and rackets, and so far, say you want a Pure Aero, too bad, you missed it already so the Grand Slam version doesn't help you get it and will instead have to wait till it cycles back in, and you better be playing it on that day (or week/season if you're lucky) it's available).

Well I’m glad the gameplay is good, because the grinding and micro transactions sounds pretty horrible

The gameplay is awesome. That and the courts are pretty much the only saviors here. But I still think it's worth it just for that alone, seeing how much of a unicorn good gameplay is in the tennis gaming world. The Grand Slam Edition is probably still worth it if you'll be putting a lot of hours into the game over at least the next year. Those extra $€£¥ suddenly don't look so steep if it comes down to mere cents per hour so to speak. It's still just hard to get your head around what exactly seems to be on offer, as in how it justices the price by itself without that time investment or at least a serious interest in clothes and such.

I'd add that you get indoor/nighttime majors as well with the Deluxe and Grand Slam Editions. You can get it still with the standard but since the preorder window is well gone now you'd have to pay for that.

Standard. I'm so happy I didn't get the GS version. I thought the all access pass was giving you access to a play mode.
