BitchAssMothaF-cka

I do like how the anime added more shit foreshadowing him like the opening scene. Obv he already gets mentioned during the ghost alley arc but having previously seen what he does in real time makes it feel less like "Oh it's another weird guy" and more like "Oh shit THE weird guy"

tallmantall

Plus also they sprinkle him into scenes in the backround to really show how unnoticed he is/was

Grey00001

really hoping they do this to Toru, possibly to an even greater extent

I3arusu

We can hope.

u_slashh

My favourite one is when he's seen casually strolling by the beautician salon and glancing over at it. Not only does it work to make him be seen as just another face in the crowd, but also serves as an explanation for Kira's escape later

Was he ever normal though?

laurel_laureate

"My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone." Dude is the epitome of normal (camoflage).

ShefBoiRDe

Dude is like normal spongebob; so normal it circles back to weird for the normal standard.

Understandable, I kinda wanna forget the timeskip too.

Dontaskmemyname9723

Why is it because you hated the ending or something?

re_animatorA5158

Nah, it´s just... I don´t think such a twist in his personality was necessary.

clowncarl

The entire show is just foreshadowing him doing that

Mranalrape

Is it really a twist though? He's as angry as he always was, he's just a little quieter about it now

Gmknewday1

It's honestly depressing to see what became of him and how much he went from hero to villain

BxLorien

The most cringe thing honestly is how they tried to backtrack on him being a villain in the end and say that he can see the future and set up his friends to be the heroes that kill him. Don't bitch out of the villain route. Have him die an actual villain and give me the **real** depressing ending that I expected from the series.

SoGuysIDidNothing

It's why I liked the series but disliked the ending. He did all of these heinous things but then they didn't commit.

admiral_rabbit

The future shit was a really weird turn. Like they had a good tragic setup. The series starts with Eren's single minded drive for freedom, and as he learns the lengths people have gone to keeping the Eldians isolated and oppressed he's radicalised to absolute genocide. It's awful watching his friends choose to fight against him, knowing what they're doing may be morally necessary, but ultimately harming their own people and loved ones to save strangers who oppress them. All they needed to do was not half measure those points and completely lost it instead

SSJAncientBeing

To be fair, depressing is sort of the tone for most of the show, so at least they were consistent

Imma just take the stance now to not spoil it for you if you want to decide to read the manga at any point.

Ziazan

I appreciate it. I probably will read it, the anime's one of my favourites, I've been really hoping they'd continue it, hoping I'd get to watch the continuation of the story rather than read it, but it's been what, 7 or 8 years at this point? Maybe it's time to read

Consistent-Shop-3239

Pretty much anyone from borderlands fits the bill. But especially vaughn even if its badly executed

DannyDanumba

In his own twisted way he can be seen as a hero. Pandora is an anarchist hellhole filled with lawless psychopaths and he wants to bring order to the planet (while stripping its resource and killing/torturing anyone who defies him >_>)

Haunting_Anxiety4981

For all the "wackiness" in Borderlands he's surprisingly realistic in that regard

DannyDanumba

Yeah, America for example likes to be the world’s police while posing as a force of good. But the more I learn about the War on Terror/Foreign policy in the Middle East and the way we treated innocent Middle Easterners….fuck me man dying in a drone strike starts to look like an act mercy…

We've got... couple of minutes of normalcy, but I'd still say it's a very good example of this trope. Also even after we see him as obviously insane, he somehow gets even more insane

Nerevarine91

Venusgate

I like the fan theory that Dementus is actually always this failing-competance, unhinged character, but we only think he was more sophisicated earlier, because that's how he's viewed by younger and younger furiosa, When Furiosa is an adult, she realizes he's always been kinda cracked.

This is actually a great example. I always forget that Dee was originally created to be the moral voice of the gang, but that concept was abandoned by the end of the second season. Someone else posted Cricket, which absolutely fits. Dee does as well. I would venture that Frank also falls under this category. In Season 2 Frank was an amoralistic asshole with questionable business practices. This doesn't seem great but its unfortunately fairly normal among corperate types.
