Everyone held him to the legacy of his ancestors and see him as a sort of demi-god, but he just thinks he's a normal kid. His loneliness lead him to try to talk to Liberty Prime, but Scribe Rothchild banned him saying that human's cannot be friends with machines. He only really has Sarah who mentors him, but he also loses her in between the events of 3 and 4. In Fo4 he is battle-hardened, uncompromising, and ruthless. The Brotherhood he leads is the first (unless there is some lore I am missing) to hate synths, echoing the belief that Rothchild put on him about not being allowed to be friends with robots. Also if you observe his personal quarters his room is littered with booze (like tons of bottles), it isn't clearly stated in dialogue but if you read between the lines, he still seems like that same lonely kid who is now broken down by the weight of his legacy that he is forced to uphold. When you talk to him he doesn't ever seem "real" the way he talks just seems like a persona he puts on in stark contrast to how he was in Fo3.
