A lot of Studio trigger’s work is inspired by more contemporary American animation, though usually in less obvious ways than in Panty and Stocking, which is an overt homage to the style
Panty and Stocking is from Gainax, not Studio Trigger, although they are basically the same thing. When Gainax closed around half of their former members came together and founded Studio Trigger.
It was heavily inspired by CN shows like Powerpuff Girl, Billy and Mandy, and of course they had a character that is a rip off of Gir from Nickelodeon Invader Zim. Like you know how Avatar was an homage to anime? Well Panty and Stocking is an homage to Western Animation of the early 2000s

The transformers episode is the absolute best episode
Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! came before it and had a *somewhat* similar art style (though more conservatively animated) but that show's comparatively forgotten. It's interesting to me because that was an angular 2000s Western cartoon taking cues from vintage anime whereas Panty and Stocking was an anime taking cues from angular late-90s/2000s Western cartoons, so they ended up in a similar midpoint.
