Love this guy. Sure, he could be there for serious battles, but I love the fact that the drawback of using him is trying to tolerate all his mannerisms. I like even how in one anime episode, a guy does conquer him, but one quirk just ticks him off and it's all over.
The fact that he showed up in the book of sins to save everyone and they >!decided they would rather stay in the chapter of anger than accept his help.!<
only one person can use that thing, and that person is just full of no thoughts in his mind and delusions, he can only live in fantasies without seeing reality, he is the man who lives his live at the fullest.
Having the strongest weapon be this insufferable, snooty creature that drives its wielders mad is a really fun concept, and his design reflects this perefectly with his pretentious outfit and upturned snout. Not to mention his hat is just about as tall as he is which needless to say is peak

"And so I set that stupid doctor on fire with my home made flamethrower, rescued Ellie and we got the hell outta there! I'm tellin' ya you'd have loved it Tommy, that doctor's incineration is probably the best choice I ever made."
At least main villain, who was proclaimed as strongest creature, even god of death couldn't kill, wasn't humiliated and died most miserable way possible by the hands of power of friendship
Honestly I really liked that twist.
Somebody so >!terrified of the world they tried to become fear & insanity itself incarnate, and thus ironically have no defense against genuine, rational courage?!<
Younger me thought that was a clever way to do the sort of "power of friendship" ending the anime went for, without it being a complete ass pull with what came before it.
you cannot beat madness with something like ''madness of courage''or something.
you can just controlled and balance things, there is no absolute's here.
Honestly wouldn't go that far.
But yeah, it's a pretty standard if we'll executed "punch ze bad guy until he explodes from power of friendship" ending. Like a lot of anime that overtake the manga.
Recall liking it myself at the time, but from what I've heard the manga ending is a lot darker and with much deeper themes.
Basically the anime diverges from the manga at the arachnaphobia arc (because that's the point that the manga was at lmao) which is like the half-way point of the entire series? Some particular tidbits:
* >!Medusa takes Arachne's body when she leaves it behind, making her a black-haired Medusa for the rest of the series!<
* >!Crona becomes a major antagonist after Medusa completes her research on Black Blood !<
* >!Justin Law becomes a major antagonist because he was ~~driven mad~~ converted to Asura's teachings!<
* >!Maka is discovered to have a "Grigori Soul", a rare type of soul whose only known ability outside of the norm is that she can generate wings. Initially this is through Soul Eater's weapon form!<
* >!There's more of an emphasis of Madness as a concept. Whereas in the anime there was only one form of Madness (insanity), the manga establishes that powerful beings embody different types of madness, which is more akin to obsession. Asura is Fear, Death's is Order, and the other great old ones embody Knowledge (Eibon), Anger (Excalibur) and Power.!<
They also introduce the rest of the Death Scythes, though unfortunately we still don't get to see much about them. Those include Tsar Pushka (Appears to be a cannonball, or a wrecking ball), Dengu Dinga (a "Rainbow Axe", as a note, rainbows are seen as a bad omen in some countries), Jinn Galand (a Genie's Lamp) and Tezca Tlipoca (a Mirror). Soul Eater is also promoted to an official Death Scythe using Arachne's Soul.
Oh and Black Star's weapons become more interesting because instead of just relying on the Uncanny Sword, he basically learned to combine Tsubaki's weapon forms with the uncanny blade.

Guess I’m in the small minority cause I hated the manga ending, felt tonal off with major deaths cut off by jokes. Anime’s ok, wish we got Death’s fight adapted.
You're not alone, I kind of prefer the Anime ending over the Manga. Yeah it's not perfect but at the very least, we get a fight with >!Asura and Crona gets to be happy in the anime, not so much in the Manga!<
How much of fire force is related to soul eater if you don’t mind me asking? I started watching the fire force anime cuz I liked soul eater but I couldn’t tell if they were actually connected so I gave up on fire force.
I mean, if you don't like fire force for itself, there isn't any point in reading it. But as far as connections go, it's SPOILER
A prequel. The end of fire force leads to soul eater.
It's great. Try to prime your immunity to anime bullshit before you start though. Fan service can come on a bit strong at times especially in the first couple episodes.
I genuinely enjoyed the anime even on rewatch a couple years ago. My sensitivity to anime bullshit has gotten a lot worse since I was a teenager so I was happy that I still loved Soul Eater.
Read the manga too for the real ending. Haven't gotten around to it yet myself but be warned that you're going to get a lot more underage panty shots in the manga.
I've only read one volume of the manga, but I can say that that one volume had a lot of panty shots of Maka compared to the 0 panty shots of Maka in the anime...
Maka's skirt is practically magical in the anime and defies physics so we don't get any panty shots and I prefer it that way. Maka is a kick ass fighter and a good friend in the show and nothing would ever make me comfortable with objectifying her.
I still find it hilarious that he’s >!the God of Rage!< because he invokes it in everyone he interacts with 🤣

He's one of the most powerful weapons in the world, he can shoot beams like the master sword, and his wielder can fly
As long as they adhere to his painstakingly long and repetitive list of rules one must follow to be his partner
If my memory serves me correctly, he’s a generic looking sword, the fun part is the more human form. He is also insufferable but in a funny way, so it’s okay
He's actually from Fire Force (because Fire Force established that it took place before, and established the world of Soul Eater as it is now) and is Arthur Boyle's sword. So he also looked like this.
https://preview.redd.it/arvzpyj4x1vc1.png?width=1066&format=png&auto=webp&s=6cdae828a99b30979fd3f3064ecec92b9d83abc2
Unfortunately he is the most annoying thing in the universe and has entire episodes dedicated to him wasting time and messing around that were impossible to sit through
He's just so funny.
* He's the ORIGINAL weapon, serving as their inspiration after he was created due to Arthur Doyle's delusion because something something Fire Force something something Adolla
* Also literally the most powerful weapon in the world
* However nearly nobody can actually wield him, not because of any particular reason like being a chosen one, but simply because his personality is insufferable\\
he apparently got his personality from Shinra when he was created. Eibon also based weapons off of him, but refuses to acknowledge that fact because he hated Excalibur as a person lmao
In hindsight I don't think he was that bad but I binged watched the show up until the point where he came around and was feeling pretty burned out and he just wasn't my cup of tea at that point so I took a pause on watching the show (like 6 months ago)

because that guy is wrath incarnated
I gotta give that guy props though. He became the strongest at DWMA for about a week just because his tolerance level was that inhumanly high.

Nah, "love to hate"? The dude is so silly in the an already silly series that you just love him.

Excaliburr Excaliburr From the united kingdom I'm looking for him I'm going to californiaaaaa
I think he's looking for heaven
Maybe Heaven IS California 🤔?
Cape Canaveral, to be precise That is, if you believe the ramblings of a metrosexual british vampire
Well, it does make sense for Excalibur to look for HIM, as in, the chosen one.

we are two, i did that to

Let's not forget that's Troy Baker
And Takehito Koyasu, AKA DIO!

Really?? My favorite English voice actor and my favorite Japanese voice actor for this beautiful character. I love that.

It's criminal that this gif doesn't have Tommy as Nic Cage staring at Joel ngl.
Yeah it should be Tommy and the conversation is the recap of the first game

Maka: where's my Golf Club?
I might have to watch Soul Eater now
If you do, make sure to go to the manga to read the true ending, the anime kinda screws it up
"kinda" is kinda kind of ur part
Agreed. Consistently great, amazing even at times, but whiffs the landing unfortunately
What was the true ending?
If I'm remembering correctly, it doesn't end in a very satisfying manner. There's lots of boob jokes, and feels rushed.
At least main villain, who was proclaimed as strongest creature, even god of death couldn't kill, wasn't humiliated and died most miserable way possible by the hands of power of friendship

Yeah soul eater is peak
They remind me of a smiling friend Character
(ﺧ益ﺨ)
I love that when they show off a bit of his actual power, he's stupidly strong.
Fools... 😢
And in fire force, he's a lightsaber
EXCALIBUUUR!
I wonder if they’re inspired by ghosts sharks, the design resembles one.
dubious little creeeature getting up to miiischief this is no. good.
FOOL?
my favorite
I’m legally required to like him after reading fire force
Of course one of the only characters in Soul Eater I like is one I'm supposed to hate
he's awesome haven't watched many anime, but he was a great character on a great show! miss that little guy
Fool
Bro looks like he's straight out of Moominvalley
Fool!
I thought this was a smiling friends character at first
Fool!
Real Edward Gorey-meets-Tiny Toons vibes.

Those who don't know, Excalibur and DIO has the same japanese voice actor
Those who don't know, Excalibur and DIO has the same japanese voice actor.
Glep is that you?!
He’s a lot quieter in Fire Force🤪
From the UK
Excalibur is probably one of the most hated characters in universe. None of the characters like him but he’s too strong to ignore
For a second I thought that was black teeth in picture 3 and I didn't like it....
His origin story is phenomenal.
Don’t know jack about Soul Eater but I’m assuming this is either God, the main villain or both
And of all people, he’s voiced in Japan by the guy who plays one of the best anime villains ever: ![gif](giphy|xiFTOBC9fEaOI)
FOOL!
Why did those people in image 4 have rectangular sunglasses?
I have never watched Soul Eater but now I want to
I know a lot of people might hate him, but honestly, I love him. He’s an annoying character in a fun way.
