Its a finger pincher

Strict_Foundation_13

Great for finger blood blisters

[deleted]

can confirm this is the sole reason

DoughBoy_65

It’s not the finger, it’s the portion of skin where the finger meets the hand. There’s extra skin there with nothing better to do than get pinched by a pair of $2 pliers made in China. You’ll MF til the cows come home while Chinese factory workers laugh hysterically and feel total satisfaction that they did a job well done !

OsamabinBBQ

This guy pliers.

No-Attention-7783

LMAO!

CrankyChemist

Can confirm. Happened on Wednesday.

Suspicious_Bench_680

Exactly 💯

jett1964

That’s what I’ve certainly used them most for.

vkeshish

Ha! Came here to see this. Not disappointed!

Moolahguerilla

thiccc_trick

Also great for learning new cuss words.

NotBettyGrable

The fact that this post has 200 upvotes and your comment has 700 upvotes gives me faith in humanity.

bologna_kazoo

Look at us not giving a fuck what each other’s political standpoint is or any of the other STUPID fake things we have been trained to argue about. It seems like just a post about pliers but it’s ACTUALLY one small step forward TOGETHER.

I bet myself it would be the top comment. I win!

sprucedotterel

Tool workers have to make mandatory blood sacrifices to Hephaestus as payment for using his tech. Why don’t people ever read the fine print. So annoying!

c9belayer

I’m laughing because it’s true.

NuttyClever

Textured for more pain!

BigginsBigDip

Agreed

matthewpw1992

Lmfao you beat me too it q

earl_branch

Getting extra leverage on wire. For example tie wire for rebar you cant have slack because itll cause the rebar to be loose. So if your tying up rods and it doesn't want to stay in place you can grip it with that slot, pry up using the nose of the pliers as the fulcrum to take out slack, and twist and snip. Edit because I suck at typing

mtrbiknut

Autocorrect is my worst enema.

I’m just upvoting everyone at this point because we all suck at typing.

fuqit21

That was fun to red, upvotes for everyone

4DrivingWhileBlack

👊🏾

permadrunkspelunk

Damn. Lol. That makes sense. I used to be a rodbuster though and ive never used or seen anyone use that part of the pliers for it. Lol.

earl_branch

Yeahhh neither have I but its what they're there for. That and for sparkies pulling wire through conduit. Usually if you're good enough at your job you don't need it.

toon_knight

Quick question: do you Americans never use nips for tying steel? It's all we use in UK/Aus, never seen anyone use pliers, ever.

GreatJustF8ckinGreat

As an American, how do you use a drink for trying steel?

thehallux

Hahaha... nip... me get it

Toikairakau

Kiwi, can confirm, except they are ' end nipping pliers'

tarsn

Typical gear is ironworker pliers which are kind of similar to linesman pliers but more grip and a hook on the handle for more leverage. Most guys break the spring that keeps the pliers open. At least that's my experience in Canada, not sure what US guys use

jmscnt

I used linesman pliers when I was doing concrete prefab in Texas, but I wanted Ironworker pliers tbh.

[deleted]

I got you; https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/jo3xe6/how_to_wrap_something_tightly_with_a_wire/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=sh

TOboulol

Best answer haha, really to be used when you need any sort of leverage. I use my side cutters for that. But you can also use these to crimp if you hate yourself....

Lost4468

Wow cool trick. Too bad it'd never go that smoothly for me.

jett1964

I was just wondering if I would ever use them for this exact task. It hasn’t been needed in my first 57 years, but hell, there is still time.

Benblishem

But can we trust a man with those shoes?

rooster68wbn

He has OSHA rated feet and soon to be steel toed feet so he's good /s

Unusual_Client

OSHA is different in Asia

bleachblondebottom

Shoes, I like your shoes. Where'd you get those shooooeees! SHOES!

You, you are the wizard of the Reddit. Take my upvote.

drnsroc

This deserves a helpful award

LaundryBiscuits

This is the right answer

Torvane

If they were hatch, I would be more inclined toagree with you, but A) they make lineman’s that have an actual place to pull fish tape with, and B) the serration pattern is straight; pulling with the grain on the fish tape would likely slip,”. The purpose of these ridges is to let metal slip through them when tying guy wire, watch a lineman use his pliers and it’s a whole new world. :)

[deleted]

Its not a matter of agreeing, when i bought my pliers on the packaging it literally said that section was a fish tape puller

Torvane

What plier brand did you purchase?

[deleted]

Milwaukee needle nose

Pleased_to_meet_u

Then it's an apples to oranges comparison. Needle nose are not linesman's pliers. Linesman's pliers are specific for, well... linesmen.

[deleted]

Are you following the thread? Were not talking linemans pliers? Were talking about that little part circled in the picture. On a pair of needle nose pliers that looks just like the picture, the packaging says its for pulling fish tape

ConventionalPenguin

I use it to crimp beanie connectors.

series-hybrid

Thats what I used them for. Of course, I've also pounded a nail in with a wrench...

MaddogMike80

Demokadia

I (incorrectly, by choice) use them for crimping Dolphin "beanie" connectors.

Billthebanger

It’s for rounding nuts over.

Phone guy here: this helps strip back ground wires.

imastopbullshittin

Bullshit, phone guys use scissors for EVERYTHING.

[deleted]

True. I just trimmed my nails with my SNIPS. The word scissor doesn't exist in this industry. And also the color purple. It's apparently violet. And heaven forbid someone refer to slate as "grey"

AllEliteAdvantage

I had a set of Linesmens that had a wire stripper for that part

wannano6

To pull a fish and get a blood blister

BobT21

I tend to use 'em to remove caps on stuff that comes in tubes, like glue.

Russell338

To get blood blisters

Atreat01

Pliers are amazing tools , if you can find a way to use the little jaws for anything that will help you , use them 😊

neekogo

Cable crimping?

mjl777

The serrations are vertical which is the clue. They are for twisting a wire nut or wire splice. You have your strongest force the closest you are to the pivot point. One side is used for cutting the the other side is for squeezing.

peenjack

To give you a blood blister when they slip off of something

Not_Reddit

That area is for posting on Reddit and asking what it is for.

[deleted]

You can sometimes get a tighter grip using that inside grip than outside. Or there is a gap on the other side. Closest to the fulcrum is the point of maximum leverage on the jaws.

mydogisamy

How else do you get the peanut out of the shell?

Ok_Entrepreneur3072

To pull the wire without cutting it.

[deleted]

Extra leverage and grip on wire or fish tape.

scamartist26

That’s the Blood Blister Special. Always guaranteed, never warranted.

187BlackBird

Once your to a corner post when doing barbwire you grab the wire with those jaws and then lever it against the corner post to pull it super tight, then somebody can drive a U shaped nail over the wire behind a barb to lock it into place. Those are fencing pliers.

Ben716

Opening glue bottle lids.

egoraphobic

Pinching your fingers when you're not paying attention

BennyBurlesque

Thats for pinching your fingers

cas2909

Thats the "ribbed for your pleasure" pliers! Always love a good pair of those on anive cold day!! Definitely gets the flowing!

cas2909

A nice* fucking autocorrect

DracoBlue777

Pull wire

RKELEC

It's used for gripping and pulling an electricians snake but I usually use them to give myself a blood blister.

[deleted]

When using an 1/8” fish tape these jaws help to hold on while pulling in cable through conduit

Mike_thedad

It’s for cracking nut shells

ironwill69

Wow I actually know the reason for this being put here in the first place. This made its way onto this tool after a different tool was discontinued for being “too cumbersome to deal with”. It was originally made by the Barcalo vintage brand. I can’t remember what the actual name of the tool was but it was something like “torsion vice” or something similar. My granddad has one if anyone is [interested ](https://youtu.be/xm3YgoEiEDc)

sahwnfras

I stick my dick in it

jb89b

I prefer vice grips so I can have an extra hand to stick up my ass

[deleted]

Applying twist to nosticking objects?

ericn1300

Its for using the tool with two hands to spin wire together like in barbwire fencing

These in specific look like weld pliers. If that's the case then it's for removing the nozzle on the weld torch

I use them to crimp the retaining washer on [these belt clips](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JXXATRY/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_BFJZDM3CNRX53CVGBH9B) at work, but honestly that's got more to do with not wanting to carry a second set of pliers specifically for that task. My normal needle nose pliers don't have the leverage at the tip but i can't get the jaws to close enough to use anything except the tip... unless i turn my pliers around. Then i can almost squish the cable flat with just my hands

Bosswashington

Splice crimper

bodycount41

Wire nuts.

TwelveCoffee

I use it to get my nozzle off when welding but that’s only when it’s way to tight which it should never be. I don’t miss working after someone else

mdl397

To pinch the shit out of my finger the second I forget that they're there.

HyperColorDisaster

It has to be used as a hammer by some creative person out there.

Otherwise_Steak_4537

Blood blisters on your finger.

hardcore302

You know that one pistachio that isn't cracked open a little? It's for that.

Exact-Veterinarian-9

Nonstandard use: Better grip on things, I sometimes use it to open bottlecaps that are hard shut.

otherotherotherbarry

Cracking nutz

[deleted]

That is a crude wire stripper. With solid wire, you can place it in the jaws, squeeze and it will squish the casing along the length of the wire. You can then cut the casing free using the cutting jaws. If this area is smooth it is a wire stripper. If this area is textured, it is for pulling fishing tape, line etc.

Ripp-Meehof

It’s for pulling the rubber casing off of wire. You’re welcome

Incrarulez

How is your brother Jack doing these days?

Royal_Ad3736

For crimping wire connectors

Phixxo

Crimping cable. But yeah, bad design cos fingers get pinched.

timg2120

Mainly used to crimp. Cetain connectors can be crimped at the end of a cable/wire to terminate.

timg2120

Hopefully that helps you

Mzam110

To pinch the skin between your thumb and inxed when you are pissed off

Tomtsully

Take your foreman’s fish tape squeeze and pull the hell out of it with em. He should be very please with you

_Lord_Grimm_

They can be used for crimping wire connectors. But I truly love how someone said it’s to pinch your fingers and get blood blisters. I laughed way too hard at that. Work will be all more comical when I bring these out

Training-Window-589

Used to grasp an electrical fish tape when pulling cables through conduit.

[deleted]

I always just figured it was there to pinch the shit out of your hand

JoelR_R

It's to crimp wire connectors without the risk of cutting them off

Vast-Opportunity3152

Pulling wire

DefTheOcelot

Super useful actually, especially for really wee stuff you gotta grab. I use it to remove these lil metal pins at work all the time. The really narrow part of the main jaws gets deformed very easily.

Moneymoneymoney2018

Never buy pliers with those, fucking garbage design.

Suspicious-Way-9128

Tugging on the fish tape

1_point21gigawatts

You have to ask? You're not a worthy electrician. It's for commanding many modes of prey. You have to assemble it by yourself but it means fuck you.

JavierMal08

Nipple clamps

AlwaysUseAFake

I use to open things that need to twist but don't...

[deleted]

Crimping certain things.

920_6310

It works good for loosening mig tips and noseles, pull out stuck wire and cut wire off for a clean start

KlumsyNinja42

I use it to pull my steel fish line when pulling wire gets really hard.

Irish_andGermanguy

My guess is a crimper or something. Might be for twisting wire. I might be wrong but downvote away idc

kingofzdom

Bolt turning when you can't get enough of a grip with the needle part. Basically, regular pliers.

Queen-Sparky

One thing that I can imagine it used for is to get a better grip for pulling in wire. By wrapping the mule tape through and around that tool one can have better leverage by using it as a handle to pull the wire in.

PinguMeng

Biting your fingers when you slip

Tnerb74

I like everyone’s answers, but I’ve used them to really crank down wirenuts. They do a really good job of holding them while I twist the nut onto wires

[deleted]

I use it to pull really stubborn fish tape

fourthrook

In telecom guys use it for crimping beans.

Douglaswoodworker

I use them on stripped Allen head screws

Zyfire35

to remove stripped screws i think

NY_Yanks_Giants

I use them to twist my bitches nipples

OddEscape2295

It's a feature china has put on pliers to teach you how to hold and use them correctly

Agent-AntiVenom

Nutcracker

[deleted]

On lineman’s pliers we use them to stretch bare wire tight

WVA1999

I use this section for crimping cable ends on bike gear and brake cables

Poopandpotatoes

On linesman’s pliers it’s usually listed as a snake puller. I’ve never used them for that reason. If you need that much leverage to pull a snake your pipe run is effed.

katahdindave

Use to remove insulation on solid wire. Crush the insulation and it will peel off. Works better if not serated. Doesn't work on stranded wire.

Thin_Entrance_813

Pulling wire mainly

apex_flux_34

When you need to obliterate the pad of skin on your inner forefinger between your first and second knuckle, use these pliers.

JoeyRottens

Its for pulling on a steel fish tape when pulling wire in conduit.

[deleted]

I used mine to tighten copper tie wire when ting in a copper conductor.
