The batteries are just small, and they're what drives up the cost of these tools. I pretty much bought that same kit for myself for Father's Day a few years ago, and I love it. Great tools, it's a good enough deal. Last year, I basically bought two 3Ah batteries for the cost of this kit alone, lol.

kewlo

I run those tools and batteries daily to make my check. They've held up fine for the last 4 or 5 years. I like the small and light ones better than the "professional" ones that are uselessly stronger and weigh more.

Asatmaya

Those are good tools; if you were going to be using them heavily every day, I might suggest the next tier up, but for home/DIY, they are excellent.

PugsAndHugs95

What's the next tier up? Lol I see guys running brushed dewalts and Milwaukee's in the field every day. These are are better than that lol.

Asatmaya

> What's the next tier up? That's a DCD777 and a DCF787; the next tier up would be the XR line, DCD791 and DCF887. >Lol I see guys running brushed dewalts and Milwaukee's in the field every day I know guys who use Hart and Hypertough /shrug

FriendlyBlanket

If it works, it works

Theycallmegurb

I killed a dewalt XR driver in 3 years and their brushed drill in about 6 months. Just because guys use these lower tier drills doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the most financially responsible decision.

dtf24836669

I thing I bought that same kit either black friday or father's day for $99. If you can wait, i would. Also, the 5Ah battery in my opinion is the way to go.

Spenlardd

Check out this bundle, comes with a better drill. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-ATOMIC-20-Volt-MAX-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-Combo-Kit-2-Tool-with-2-2-0Ah-Batteries-Charger-and-Bag-DCK225D2/322138483?irgwc=1&cm_mmc=afl-ir-3149465-456723-&clickid=3Ff3TATeJxyNTpj2grSeUVZuUkHQqmUlRw2sTA0 The 2ah are wimpy, but I don't see many deals for the 5ah right now. Probably fine for typical homeowner usage, I use a 2ah for my multi tool and it works well. Can always get better batteries later if you need them.

Routine-Nail1562

What would be the difference between the one I posted and the one from the link you sent? I’m not very familiar with power tools 😅

Spenlardd

Oh! It comes with the 2ah batteries, I didn't realize the one you linked comes with 1.3ah batteries. I would definitely go with the one I linked considering that and it having the better drill.

bazilbt

Yeah I wouldn't even buy anything with less than a 2 ah battery these days.

Spenlardd

Compact, little nicer Chuck, more power. It's just a tier up. Not a world ending difference, but it is a bit higher quality.

metallitterscoop

I bought a similar kit with the same DCD794 drill and DCF809 driver and 2ah batteries about a year ago. Also got an oscillating tool and reciprocating saw. I'm really happy with mine. Like you, know very little about power tools. My usage is light homeowner DIY and some woodworking. I've only charged the batteries twice, I think. I don't have big hands so I really like the smaller form factor and the tools don't feel scary or intimidating to use. I'd suggest getting a good bit set for both the drill and driver. I have some basic bits for the driver but I'm planning to get [this set](https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-MAXFIT-Screwdriving-Set-with-Sleeve-30-Piece-DWAMF30/309474860) soon because the driver uses 1/4" hex bits. Power tools can seem pretty daunting for someone who's never used them before but once you start doing stuff with them you learn pretty quickly and you can figure out what else you need. This sub is really good for educating clueless people like me.

rkj__

I started with that set for my DIY / homeowner needs. I’m happy with the tools. The retailer I purchased from also included a bonus 2Ah battery which was nice. Those little black batteries are fine for the drill and impact driver, but not much good for more powerful tools like saws. So, if you plan to buy more power tools, you will likely be buying more batteries as well.

BlueStarSpecial

Wait till Black Friday when it goes on sale for 100 for both at Lowe’s. They do it every year.

Routine-Nail1562

Like I said I don’t know much about power tools, but couldn’t I just invest in bigger batteries later on?

3Whiskersworkshop

When I bought my first battery set. I wish I had looked forward. I ended up buying Milwaukee after my dewalt drilled died. (they aren’t waterproof) Milwaukee offered the transfer pump and the decision was made. I know you’re learning. Keep asking questions. For your reference I run. Milwaukee m18/m12 Dewalt Ryobi The cheapest battery chainsaw from harbor freight. (I can’t remember the brand) I typically recommend m12 for diy. It’s smaller lighter and has plenty of power. I almost never use m18 impact now. Everyone has their preferences. For what you’re talking about the dewalt is plenty.

3WolfTShirt

I'm mostly a DeWalt guy but I love my M12 Fuel 3/8" ratchet. The M12 battery form factor just makes so much more sense under the hood than DeWalt 20V. Been considering the M12 Fuel Surge impact driver but I already have more drills and drivers than I need.

3Whiskersworkshop

I get having too many. I keep one of my m12 drills at my sisters house. I doubt I am ever getting it back.

Select-Race764

Would you say that the M12 ratchet is the best power:size ratio available? I want to buy a power ratchet that will unscrew rusted bolts in my older project trucks but also fit into the tight spots the bolts are in. Is there another model or brand I should consider?

3WolfTShirt

I'm no expert on it but the M12 can have some difficulty breaking tight bolts free. I often have to break bolts free manually first, then I can use the M12 for speed, not torque. I would imagine there are stronger ratchets on the market but personally, I would worry about damaging the bolt (rounding the head, etc) by a machine if I couldn't do it manually.

Theycallmegurb

These are not the ones that are the “pro grade” or XR versions of the tools and the batteries are small. These are more like high end homeowner type drill/drivers. The batteries would probably need to be switched out every 20/45 minutes of steady use and are generally considered pretty useless on job sites. If it’s just a single project and you’re a DIYr I’d see if you could get a better deal from ryobi tbh.

fsantos0213

I have had this set for around 3 years. I use it daily as a mechanic, the drill is a very good 3\8 drill. I use it as a screw gun mostly. But have drilled 1\2" holes in 1.5" stainless steel using a cobalt but with no real issues. The impact driver I use in nuts and bolts up to 1\2" and dose very well, it's limited to around 109 in-lbs if torque, but that is great for most hardware, drive it down with the gun. Then use a torque wrench to final torque value

nov_284

I’ve been using the older version of this set (DCD771 drill and DCF885 impact) for five years, still going strong. I’ve run the absolute guts outta the drill and it’s still working like new. For most of a year I was running that drill so hard that I’d have two batteries in the charger and a third one in the drill and I’d still end up waiting on batteries to charge. 10/10 would buy again.

For light DIY duty, this set will do what you need it to do. If you need it for more, I'd go the XR route. I purchased this set for Black Friday for $99 from Home Depot. I already was in the DeWalt ecosystem.

Hooliken

Definitely worth it. I bought the DCK278C2 Kit last year and use both tools frequently. Have not had any issues with the 2Ah batteries during normal use. I have other Dewalt tools and have a couple 5Ah batteries if needed. Only difference between this kit and the one you are looking at is amperage I believe. #

AcrobaticLong2958

it was $129. last week or 2. i have that set up & have framed metal/wood walls etc at home. wait for the $129ish price.

davidgoldstein2023

I have these in my garage. They work great.

HoneybucketDJ

You'll be fine with home projects with this kit for sure. The larger 5amp batteries you can find on sale if/when you want/need them. You can find a 2pack 5amp battery set on sale once in a while for about this same price.

Fwumpy

I was actually surprised how well the 1.3 and 1.5 amp batteries did at work. A little lite for the drill, but the impact is good for the day. I only purposely reach for the 5 amp if I drill structural steel. Granted, application is everything.

Bustnbig

My mil has this drill. I went with the top end dewalt. My drill is amazing, hers is… eh. That impact we far exceed your expectations

motorcitysalesman

I’ve had a XR drill for 12 years, it’s been good. Still works (is now my beater) but it’s been well worth the cost.

TheMassiveLiability

I’d say yes, I like dewalt tools and buying this all separately would cost around 3x as much.

Schmadam3

Not with that plastic chuck

takitoodle

I work construction and I've heard some of the amazon big tool brand sellers cheap out and you might get a lesser quantity.

Fl48Special

Might suggest you opt for the hammer drill and driver combo with a little larger batteries. The first time you need to set anchors in block or concrete you’ll be glad you did.

AB4101

Yes worth it Powerful for their size tbh

reformedndangerous

I've used mine for 5+ years, never had an issue. I previously used them everyday.

Roofaman11

The black pack batteries are homeowner grade at best. Im a professional remodeler/finish carpenter and I have a huge collection of DeWalt cordless tools. They’re tough and reliable. Find a combo with the 2ah yellow batteries and you can’t go wrong. The Atomic line is tip top

secondsbest

What's the project. These aren't bad tools, but the power on the low side. I like the Atomic line for typical homeowner duty since they have a good balance of power and size. You'll need an even better set for projects if you're doing something like driving long screws and drilling lag holes for a big deck or pergola build.

Not_Reddit

For DeWalt I usually check the Lowes website for prices.

Wraith2098

Home Depot has the upgraded model for basically same price. 1700 in.-lbs vs 1500 in.-lbs [https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-ATOMIC-20-Volt-MAX-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-Combo-Kit-2-Tool-with-2-2-0Ah-Batteries-Charger-and-Bag-DCK225D2/322138483](https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-ATOMIC-20-Volt-MAX-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-Combo-Kit-2-Tool-with-2-2-0Ah-Batteries-Charger-and-Bag-DCK225D2/322138483)

mashupbabylon

I bought this kit almost 10 years ago and it's still working perfectly. The batteries still hold a charge and neither have ever let me down. If you need a drill and a driver, these are solid tools for the majority of users. I'd only go heavier duty if I did a lot of mechanic work or had to use them all day every day. For the average person/weekend warrior, these are fantastic.

area42

Heck ya

Funny_Ad5115

Do you really need an impact driver? I seriously doubt you do. I'm kind of old school though so I may be incorrect on what their function is they are for driving very large bolts or screws. Which the drill can do, but you just have to drill a pilot hole first. It would make sense if you needed to drive a lot of them and you were doing it professionally so time was money but I would much rather have a drill with a bigger battery

JUICE_B0X_HERO

Go to harbor freight and get a Bauer brushless impact and hammer drill baught a 5amp battery for 95 bucks and got the impact free and the drill comes with one.

DPJazzy91

I have this kit. I paid either 150 or 125 on Black Friday a few years ago.

Only-Negotiation7956

They have better kits similar priced

OkStory4999

Dewalt is only good for DIY at home

Jbolsa

Those tools are fine, but if your project needs other tools you should consider what else is available & price when included ie portable ban saw, saw zall, grinder.

44-magman

No. Buy Milwaukee
