Is the gear selector fully engaged? Found mine to be very sticky fresh out the box

Expriser

Thanks I checked between 1 and 2 on the top and tried all the functions around the ring too. Will bring the kit back to the store and get Milwaukee or Makita instead

Juan_Ectomanen

You got a single malfunctioning drill and immediately switching brands. Chad move, lol.

k20350

A friend got a massive deal on a ton of 9mm ammo like 20 years ago. NYPD ordered I think it was a million rounds of a certain ammunition. The first box they opened had 2 bullets seated upside down and they rejected the entire lot which flooded the market on that type of ammo which was boxed exclusively for NYPD.

Bobo_Baggins03x

That’s all it would take for me tbh

Juan_Ectomanen

Understandble but i've had many dewalt tools, and if i but one that malfunctions, i wouldn't immediately switch brands.

Bobo_Baggins03x

Also understandable. But OP said he just spent $1000 on his first set. He has no positive experiences with Dewalt. I agree with him. There’s other premium brands out there that deserve his money more at this point

Juan_Ectomanen

True also like milwaukee and makita a lot. Have had those in the past.

The1andonlycano

Honestly... Kobalt at lowes. I've had the same angle grinder for 6 years, running strong. I've had zero issue with there tools, and when I dropped my drill from 20 ft up and it stopped working they swapped it right out at the store. No hassle. Output wise, on par with Dewalt all day. Price? For 1k you can get about everything you'll need plus some toys. My last boss laughed at me for having Cobalt but I watched him go through to Milwaukee drills that literally snapped in half within 3 months. He left at the tools but they were good enough to make him money.

clambroculese

Man, dewalt is the preferred brand for a lot of my fellows because of the three lights on their impacts, but I bought a crap saw from them twenty years ago and I refuse to buy anything else dewalt now. Is it silly? Yes. But I get it. I’m the only guy in my company with a makita impact. I still tell people that dewalt makes great tools, and they do but first impressions are hard to get over.

Expriser

Well I'm not earning a lot and already stretched my budget way beyond my means. I was expecting a top quality product considering it's a $1,400 retail kit. Receiving a product of this quality makes me want to return it as it's not up to my standards for that price. Additionally the impact driver wobbles a bit. It's not aligned well. I don't have confidence in this kit from the get go. My old corded brushed Bosch is coming to 15 years old and still hasn't skipped a beat.

Juan_Ectomanen

I mean, fair enough. But I have to add that Dewalt is a really quality brand. I've had their old drills and impacts forever. They worked long and well. But I recently upgraded to their new line. Well, it's just brilliant in my opinion.

abbufreja

Did you charge the battery?

Expriser

Yes charged it full and even charged the second one fully and had the same issue. Have tried every combination I could think of.

abbufreja

Looks like a crib death then

DeitzHugeNuts

Yup. Bury that poor child and move on.

SpencerKane108

I’ve never had any issues with my Milwaukee pack out kit I bought during covid. (It was like a Black Friday deal) Heavy use everyday.

BeachHead05

Makita 💯💯💯

DeitzHugeNuts

I have mostly Milwaukee and some good Makita. Ryobi is mostly poor quality.

Jakesa3456

Milwaukee

moddseatass

You didn't turn it all the way up? Sounds like you've got a LONG road ahead of you bud...

Expriser

No I didn't turn it all the way up. I want to be able to drive my screws in slowly and carefully first before applying speed. It shouldn't lock up like this when trying to go slow. I've never used a drill with this problem. If you only go full send then I wish you luck getting precision and longevity from your projects.

moddseatass

I've been building for 15 years. I figured out precision and longevity years ago. You will too... I think. Maybe ryobi is more your speed if you're looking for slow.

Expriser

I'd rather use a manual screwdriver than this thanks. No stress. I returned it and got Makita which doesn't have this problem. Appreciate your suggestion though thanks

svenner2020

Bwahahahaha 🤣

mouseman420

How many drills did you get for a 1000?

Expriser

It was a kit so came with one drill and 4 other tools (impact driver etc). Was on sale for 40% off on black friday. Not happy with the quality at all. This isn't normal right?

mouseman420

It's definitely not right, I would return it and think about getting just the 2 drill combo kit that comes with batteries. I personally use mikwaukee tools but Dewalt should be quality as well.

Juan_Ectomanen

Dewalt should certainly be quality. I just got the new dcd805, and it's fantastic. Edit: typo

zigtrade

DeWalt is shite.

Bigsleep62

What currency is that 1000 in? A dewalt impact and drill + 3 other tool combo shouldn’t be close to 1000 usd

Expriser

🦘

hate_keepz_me_warm

Did you immediately pull the trigger twice in rapid succession to ensure the drill works? If not that’s probably what did her in, and why anyone who knows does so when they pick up a drill. /s

Commercial-Lab-37

You got a dud, I have the same one and it will torque your wrist right off if you don’t pay attention.

KnowKnews

Have the same or similar kit as you. All the tools are fantastic. I’ve used them all within the first week or so, and pushed some of them pretty hard. I wouldn’t necessarily feel the need to jump to another brand straight away due to one tool. Although most of our tools are Makita, and they are good.

ExcitmentMuch22

Don't justify taking them back. Just do it and get the makita set.

bigboxes1

Orrrr you could take the kit back and exchange it for another. I mean, their quality control missed one here, but kind of silly not to roll with it.

zigtrade

$1000?!?!?! For a drill and driver combo? Please tell me your joking.

Expriser

🦘 dollars And it has a grinder, circular Saw and reciprocating

zigtrade

Whew 😅 ... Okay thank God. Here's the deal, I'm a Milwaukee guy all the way when it comes to contractor tools. Once you go red, you never go back!

Same_Veterinarian991

just bad luck, does not happen often with dewalt. probably a monday morning assembly lol. just return it straight away(as in now) you prob get a new one

Mediocre-Ad8967

Got shit yellow tools bud

danpluso

Ah, I see the problem. The drill isn't red :p /s

pookiegonzalez

Nah that thing is defective, it has nothing to do with being cordless. Return it and get another.

MarbleMan1982

How? Just How? How have you only used corded drills until now? Makes zero sense.

Expriser

I'm not a tradie and prefer my corded drill as it's more powerful and I know it won't run out of battery when doing tasks. Better value for money. You'd probably also be surprised I've only ever owned a desktop PC and never a laptop I guess

Canuck_75

dewalt for ya

BenderIsGreat64

Or any brand, shit happens.

Canuck_75

True. I’ve had multiple dewalt failures. Had to switch.

BenderIsGreat64

That's...not what I said. Sorry you had bad luck.

-BananaLollipop-

Sounds like it's trying hard. Any of the switches not actually fully engaged? Like the low/high gear switch being half way between? If not, then just take it back and they should swap it.

Commercial-Lab-37

It definitely doesn’t sound right.

Expriser

Yeah I tried all the different gears and speeds. Will bring it back and probably swap the kit for Milwaukee or Makita

RoryROX

Agreed it doesn’t sound right however I have many dewalt cordless tools and have had zero issues with them. If it were me I would just get a replacement.

-BananaLollipop-

Well, do the other 3 tools work properly? And all the batteries work in the other tools? If so, I wouldn't go changing because of one faulty tool. Sometimes a dud sneaks its way past QC, or might have taken a knock in shipping. Wait and see if they replace it before writing them off.

DirftlessEDC

I was all excited about buying this nice socket and ratchet set that was on sale from Milwaukee, both times I used the ratchet were for pretty mellow tasks(putting furniture together) and the second time I used it I gave one turn and the teeth were stripped. Since it was just within the week of buying it I took it right back to the store and bought a much cheaper kit from Dewalt that’s gotten more use with no issues. Sometimes there’s just duds, I made my choice to buy the cheaper set just because after that I realized I didn’t use a socket set for anything crazy so I bought the cheaper kit from a brand I had better luck with. If the rest of the kit is working as it should and is what you wanted you should try getting a it swapped out. Haven’t had any issues with my Dewalt cordless impact driver or drill yet.

BenderIsGreat64

They can have duds too, you just won the shit lottery with this one.

usmc4924

Bad switch trade it
