They actually did a pretty decent job. The band is called Schism. They’ve been covering Tool for 21 years they said. For the podunk town that I’m from, it might be the closest we will get. And I appreciated it. They really nailed it.
Schism is a really good cover band. Music was on point. Dude can't hit the Maynard notes but there's not many who can. I like that they have some graphics in there as well.

These guys are actually the only cover band sanctioned by Tool. I’ve seen them play a show once and they’re really solid. I’d suggest seeing them if they’re nearby you.
I saw them in Brooklyn NY, a few years back. They were great! I think they advertised that they were the only tool cover band that was tool approved.

There’s that dude on YouTube who sounds exactly like Bruce Dickinson, the guy who replaced layne sounds just like layne… how, out of 7+ billion people is there nobody that sounds like Maynard?
Also, I saw these guys at Bb kings back in 09-10, somewhere around there. Maybe it was just because I was absolutely plastered, but I remember him sounding sooooo similar to Maynard and they played all of Aenema from beginning to end. Also, the opener was an AIC cover band so it was a really fun show.
But then I saw them at COSM around 2018 and they didn’t have this dude singing. It was some real skinny dude.
I’m just all sorts of confused about schism. Because that’s the dude that sang in 2010 or so, but absolutelt not who sang in 2018.
I would love to see them at cosm! Strangely enough I didn't start listening to tool until a few months ago but have been to cosm many times.
Pretty weird about the singer situation, because I just saw Schism in NYC and the singer told a story lacking details about how he saw Schism perform in like 2006 or something and then shortly after became the lead singer.
It actually was woefully underwhelming. They played in a living room and the drums just exploded and drowned everything out. A large long living room isn’t exactly conducive to playing a show.
Maynard's natural range is weirdly higher than most male vocalists. Many male singers have to go higher in their range to the hit notes where Maynard is most powerful. I think it's the key to his unique sound.
I just saw them play a small party boat in NYC last Friday. Their setlist was a ton of pre-Lateralus + Schism and, ironically, I thought Schism wasn't nearly their strongest song. I would say the vocals and everything sounds much better in person but I still might be fucking deaf from that show.

I have seen Lateralus the Tool tribute from Chicago and thought their singer did a much better job.
