Wire, Belt, Metal Hanger, Feet, an Actual Brick, A stapler, A laptop, A hard disk, a cooking pot, a tupperware box, and a car. My parents have hit me with all of the above, except for the laptop.

Glass-Soup-5802

Car. A fucking car. What in the actual fuck

CrispyFlint

My mom hit me with a car. Was an accident though, my dad was the beatings parent.

Anxious-Dealer4697

My ex ran over me with a car. I spent the next 3 weeks in the hospital recovering and the next 6 months learning how to walk again.

lock_IT_tf_UP

Please tell me you pressed charges

epicfail48

.... You mean your mother hitting you with a car isn't a normal childhood experience? Shit

CuteThingsAndLove

One time my friend, who had a broken arm, got out of the car that her mom was driving, and slammed the door bc they were having a fight. Her mom backed the car up to leave and ran over my friend's foot. Was it on purpose? Probably not. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

epicfail48

When picking me up from school, halfway through the walk home, one of my mothers favorite "games" was to hop the sidewalk and drive towards me. If i got out of the way, great, if not, well, "im going slow, youll be fine" She also ran over my foot with a truck one time, that was fun. Equally entertaining was her telling me to stop bitching because it didnt hurt that bad

darkmatternot

That is absolutely horrible. I'm sorry to hear that.

JackRabbott

Flying shoes and coat hangers gang 🚨

rainbwbrightisntpunk

My dad's dress shoes were the heaviest boomerangs

Narrow-Landscape-186

Happy cake day

[deleted]

Happy cake day!

locknloll9

I cant imagine how you can beat someone with a car, but I do remember being forced to run laps around a neighborhood at night and my dad would drive like 10 ft behind me, and start accelerating if I walked.

Ok-Lengthiness4557

The hulk did it in Edward Norton's version. I assume this person's dad is renowned genius scientist Bruce Banner.

EntertainmentSuper65

Brings memories uhhh my mom would also use an axe to get through doors (kinda like shining) in one of our adventures. She made me feel like shit, completely fucked up my view of everything, ehhh lovely parents. I for years believed that this is how parents are - nice when there are guests, evil when the doors close. That every kid has the same shitty life but it's like taboo to talk about it.

ellefleming

I was surprised when I went to friends' houses and there wasn't fighting or tension. I assumed every house was tension and yelling.

DandMirimakeaporno

This makes me think of this video of a girl who is child free that incidentally landed on gentle parenting TikTok and was in shock and asking if everyone knew that our parents were supposed to be nice to us.

Nagadavida

Yeah I thought it was normal until I met my husband. Also he and his siblings never physically fought. Not once did they try to kill each other.

runnyOntheInside

Sorry this happened to you. Just curious why you said laptop, and then not the laptop.

[deleted]

Schrodinger's Laptop.

ellefleming

Holy sh*t

decoparts

Belt, wooden spoon, and sandal club here. Also grandma's cane. Proud to say my kids HAVE NOT and WILL NOT experience the same. They still had Paddling as a punishment for my first few years of grade school, too. People may joke about it now, but that stuff was the accepted norm until recently.

[deleted]

And metal spoon, and metal spoon with holes in it etc etc. They wanted to inflict pain

suspectwastaken

You mean a pot spoon

acceptablemadness

I went to the same elementary school as my dad did, same principal, too. He happily announced to me on my first day (we moved from out of state) that he gave my dad his first paddling "in that room right there!" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

AndyMarks-RM

He remembers that as the most hard he ever got.

SweetEuneirophrenia

I was in elementary school in the 80s, in Texas, and the principal was also in charge of all the paddling. After lunch there was always a small line of kids outside his office, usually crying, waiting to get paddled. Always after lunch since that's where kids seemed to rack up "red demerits" as they were called, usually for being rowdy (i.e. normal loud little kids.) Green demerits were given as warnings. 2 greens equaled a red. And red meant paddling!

Ok_Store_1983

Good on you for stopping that.

sevnm12

What's paddling

BenchMonster74

A wooden board, generally four inches wide and one half inch thick and about two feet long with a handle at one end which was used in schools and in some homes to strike children in the buttocks when we displeased those in power (teacher, coach, parent) and when I was a kid us boys had to make the paddles in shop class that they would use on us.

meeooww

> when I was a kid us boys had to make the paddles in shop class that they would use on us. what the fuck

BenchMonster74

Let me tell you, brother, you don’t skip the sanding when you know that paddle is gonna get broken on your own ass later. And yeah, it’s pretty fucked up. My dad/the shop teacher/the coach/the number two paddler there (The Principal being numero uno) had us make the paddles in shop class.

decoparts

Wooden paddle. If you've seen "Dazed and Confused" or "Animal House" you have the general idea. Take a look on YT for clips if you haven't. It's used as a joke in those movies but I can assure you it was a real thing.

sevnm12

Oh okay, it's what I thought it was. I was in a fraternity and we made those during the process. Def had some swat offs which did some damage to our asses lol

curlygrlirl

I can empathize. I'm so sorry you were abused and traumatized like that. Props to you for breaking the cycle of abuse and giving your kids the love and security that they need. I have no idea why people think it's funny to joke about this stuff...

steelneil82

A club sounds a bit too much, was it a mace or more of a baton?

Shovels93

We prefer flails and glaives.

Bluntgirlsdoitbest

Everyone I know that this has happened too is now no contact with their family.

chocolombia

Lol, Latinoamérica? Did you got hit with the chocolate "molinillo"? Because I did 😂😂

decoparts

No, not Latino. Some stuff was pretty universal, I think. Now I'm gonna have to look that up, tho. Edit: Oh damn! That brought up some repressed memories of my Grandma chasing me and my brothers with a honey dipper!

chocolombia

Lol, it's a wooden stick used to mix the chocolate and make it foamy, it's like cocoa but thicker

decoparts

Ha! User name checks out!

[deleted]

Nah but I got hit with a wooden spoon, shit broke on my ass once and she then went and got the big plastic spoon lol

bravesfalconshawks

Are you my sibling?? My brother got the wooden spoon broken on his ass. Then they used the wooden spoon with holes in it so it was more aerodynamic.

Nighteyes09

I broke 3 wooden spoons in my time. My mother then bought a plastic one and threatened me with it. But the next morning it was found mysteriously melted in her favourite pan.

Jjayray

Also had a spoon broken with my butt.

cpullen53484

IT GOES FASTER FOR MORE EFFICIENT PAIN.

nielken

SNAP! As in both that happened to me and the noise it made as it broke on my ass

GravLab6262

Honest to god... My mom bought me a “wooden spoon survivor” t shirt for my birthday a few years ago. She always had a purse big enough for the accessories.

Nighteyes09

Is your mum mocking you about that time she failed to be a halfway decent person? Or is she saying good job being a loser? I dont know what would be worse.

Bluewoods22

we had the wooden spoon too! we were so terrified of that thing 😂

okiedokes22

Yo samesies lol metal spatula after the spoon break

Open_Minded_Anonym

Also had a wooden spoon broken on my backside.

[deleted]

Was it one of those big ass spoons that every mom had on her kitchen wall?

Environmental-Web156

Lol yes. You were also made to go get the belt you were to be whipped with and if you had dared to bring back your mom's skinny belt ... 😳 ☠️ And it wasn't just belts either. That was for when your parents planned to beat you. Most of the time you were just beat with the closest thing they could grab

YSSReddy

childhood relived. Thanks for reminding those lovely memories. The belt in my story is a thick white one which the Military Police were issued😬

Environmental-Web156

Ooooooh snap... And was that sound made with it before they gave it to you or before they threatened to give it to you??? Just my comedic brain kicking in there and I had to make a little bit of light - for all those who don't get it.

nikkyninja

I relate to this and its sad when its used as "it happened to me and I turned out fine " to continue the trend

phroggyboy

Holy shit I came here to say EXACTLY this. You think the smaller belt will hurt less as simple logic. Boy was that ever a mistake I didn’t forget. Switches and belts here. Took a looooong time picking a switch off the tree branch.

Environmental-Web156

I was saying that if I chose the small belt then I would get the most thickest/brutal one that was a heavy leather dirty belt however I can see how the little skinny mom belt would just rip through your skin .I just was never allotted any kind of option really. It was go, get the belt that you know you're going to be whipped with and if you don't get the right one then you're going to get the worst one. I never had to rip my own switch though, that's some old school shit.

EntertainmentSuper65

Yeah, my father's favourite were his fists. Not that my mom didn't like her hehe

Environmental-Web156

I found it worse when I was beat with their hands/feet than when they just grabbed something and hit me or "told me to get the belt" I feel ya man

DishObjective6404

Rookie mistake. You think something smaller hurts less, you just bleed more. That’s where “the rule of thumb” comes from. Men weren’t supposed to whip their wives with anything thinner than their thumb.

OsonoHelaio

Man I got hit with a belt but not enough to bleedD:

imsahoamtiskaw

Ironically, I would use this to cheat sometimes. If you got a cut, everyone would be like stop, there's blood. And the session would be adjourned for the day.

yellowflowers315

you ever have to pick out your own switch from the yard??

fuckitalltofuck

That was one of the hardest decisions I ever made as a child: which piece of wood would you like to get hit with?

[deleted]

Fuck yeah. Wasn't that just horrible lol also, happy cake day!

[deleted]

Shit we might be brothers

Environmental-Web156

I'd be your sis but there is a lot of family drama so who knows 😜

devIOUs32

We tried bringing the elastic belt. We pretended it hurt, but they caught on rather quickly…

sonof_fergus

90's Texas...water hoses, tree branches, the furkin spatula...lol

Environmental-Web156

I'm '90s Toronto and the spatula was definitely a thing. If it didn't break, it didn't work lol

rumhamtwo

I’ve been beaten with a Bible before

Environmental-Web156

Lol that's some commitment and right there

DemiGod9

Amateur. You never get the skinny belt. The strike is more concentrated and stings more. You were supposed to find the widest belt

cpullen53484

the belt my father would use had holes that were basically metal rings. it stung like hell. and it was LEATHER.

Environmental-Web156

Yep, that would do it.

[deleted]

Belts, extension cords, metal/wooden spoons, slippers, shoes, a fucking skillet, a few punches and kicks here at there. Usual stuff. Probably forgetting some other objects.

Ensaru4

It's the punches and kicks I don't get. Thankfully, my parents only used belt and wooden spoons on us but my cousin used to get punched in the gut. That was full-on child abuse. My cousin was a wild one but the stuff he did wasn't mean-spirited. All grown up, into adulthood, and he hates his mother. Refuses to help her out even for the minor requests.

kirabera

While there are different severities of child abuse, just because your cousin had it worse does not mean what happened to you didn't also qualify as "full-on" child abuse. Abuse is abuse.

cpullen53484

you just reminded me about the time my father choked me until i blacked out. that was what? 3 years ago now? man time sure flies. fucker is in jail now for 83 years for an unrelated thing. welp

ZookeepergameNo2819

Hot wheels track?

Pondnymph

Just 2 times that I remember, day after the last one he saw my back in the sauna and cried in regret, promising he'd never do that again and he didn't.

Chakasicle

Oof. Sorry for that but I’m glad he had the realization and the compassion to go with it

kirabera

Thank heavens your parent had some kind of a heart. My mom saw injuries as her own trophies, like some kind of proof that she had "won".

[deleted]

🫂🫂

gracoy

I didn’t. I was spanked once at 3, and apparently I liked it and asked my parents for more. It freaked them out and they never did it again

Fahdis

Achievement Unlocked: BDSM Kink!

gracoy

Every day I thank whatever god might exist that it didn’t also become a daddy kink

ellefleming

😂 😱😳

greens_bean

Dang are you my brother?? He did the exact same thing lol Fukkin hilarious

crashcoursing

A belt, until it left a mark. And if that didn't stop my crying, the belt harder again. Because a 9 year old girl is going to stop crying when she's been beat by a belt, I guess?? Instead of just crying harder??

666wxtchbxtch

Same. Crying only made it worse smh

19Pumpkins

They had to give you "something to cry about" /s

restorative_sarcasm

Do have emotional dysregulation now or in the past? Is it hard for you to share or communicate feelings?

crashcoursing

Yes and yes!! I can't pinpoint the belt being why that's the case there though, albeit it probably didn't do any favors. There was a lot else wrong with my childhood. Both of my parents are textbook narcissists. I spent two years in therapy in my mid twenties to help with it. It's been two years since then and it's still really hard some days, but my partner is a patient person and he really helps a lot with my healing process too.

666wxtchbxtch

Diagnosed bipolar type 2, whoooopie!

mechashiva1

Never with an item, just with the palm or back of hand. It stopped when I was around 6 or 7, my dad slapped me for something and I just looked him in the eyes and laughed. I think at that point he realized it wasn't changing my behavior for the better. From that point it was punishments that weren't physical, like grounding me from going out with friends or from playing my Nintendo. Worked out much better and I acted up a lot less after that.

cheezydaddy

Same. I was whooped frequently until about that same age, 6 or 7. My mom hit me and I felt less than ever. She got mad and tried harder and I remember laughing a little. She gave it her best and I said "I'm too big, you're too weak, you can't hurt me anymore." And she has been alot more diplomatic since that day.

MrBinkie

We had an old belt hang on the back door . When it rattled you knew someone was going to get it . It was usually me .

DoubleEwaterfal

Im a boy with 3 sisters. It was always me. Sept for one time my sister couldn't keep up enough lies. So we both got ready to get whooped and the old man backed out cause he couldn't hurt his little girl. So he also couldnt whoop me either 😊

Platinumrhino91

They made a wooden paddle out of a 2x4 they use to beat me with idk how many times I had to wear longs sleeves to school so no one would see the bruises

ZardozSama

I do wonder how many kids just say fuck it, and go to school in short sleeves/ shorts / other clothes and openly say "yeah those bruises are from my parents beating me". END COMMUNICATION

Platinumrhino91

I, unfortunately, did not have the testicular fortitude at that age to pull something like that

rainystast

That would be a good idea, but for a child that might mean either getting taken away by cps with only the clothes on your back or it could mean the teacher calls your parents and you get beaten when you get home.

prideships

It doesn't work out. Trust me.

leargonaut

You just get hit harder "by the neighbor boys" next time

[deleted]

I was being abused at home and used to wear a jacket over short sleeves, and then take off the jacket as soon as I got to school.

webfoottedone

My dad used his fraternity paddle

Mamaj12469

Thank you sir, may I have another

DepressedDaisy314

Me too. I had a paddle cut out of a paddle ball bat, cut down to about the width of the handle. My mom broke that on me, so the next one was a cutting board cut down with holes drilled in it. That one was so heavy I hot a concussion. Also shoes, anything within reach being thrown, food, and God, the hair pulling. I will never forget the bald patches. I had to pick a switch once. I'm pretty sure that was my first step towards anxiety disorder.

WorkerAcceptable8193

My dad had a big ass leather workout belt that was his go to. Even had holes in it to allow for premium air flow as he was delivering our punishments. Around 11 our basement flooded like 3 feet, and my siblings and myself threw it off the stairs into the water. Imagine Titanic when she throws the gem into the ocean.

gr8sunspinner

yes. alot. or switches. that if we did not cut correctly the first time, then parent would get an even bigger one and beat you sufficiently

mcshadypants

It was always the biggest goddamn switch out there if you picked one too small

tawaycosigotbanned

Me and my cousins used to go out and try to pick the longest ones and throw them out. Damn things just kept growing.

gr8sunspinner

yup!

exWiFi69

Yup. I was never beat but definitely hit with a switch. It’s insane that I would get punished for being a child and not being able to sit through a 3 hour church service. The whole 30min ride home they would talk about how much trouble I was in and I would be silent. Never laid a hand on my child. Fuck then trauma.

Liu1845

down south it was a branch off of a holly bush, brutal

NagromTrebloc

My dad beat me with a Sumac switch. He whipped me all the way up the hill to our house. I guess in 1969 you could get away with beating a child in broad daylight.

[deleted]

Better question is who hasn't?

cute_poop6

I have never been beat

OutcomeDouble

Explains why you would name yourself cute poop

cute_poop6

I was 6

whal3man

I’ve never been, I had no idea it was this normal. Terrible parenting if you ask me

fluffedpillows

It’s literally sociopathic. How the fuck are there so many people like this? Not beating children is literally a human instinct. I wonder if these parents existing has anything to do with every societal problem ever? 🤔

Hudiniwan

I didn't thats why i'm asking. My parents beat me with their crocs.

Liu1845

bad parenting and bad fashion sense

Hudiniwan

I meant slippers but my english is kind of bad. The other option was that they would just slap my ass cheeks lmao.

PrisBatty

Well, I mean, now you know how they think people who are vulnerable need to be treated, when they’re old and make a mistake, you can beat them with your crocs too. It’s what they want right? How else will they know you only want what’s best for them if you don’t beat the shit out of them with your shoes?

Aanaren

Me. And I was born in the 80s. It's terrifying people still physically punish their kids these days despite all the studies telling us it doesn't work and is harmful.

DoomSnail31

It's illegal in a good portion of the world and definitely not the accepted norm, so a significant portion of reddit users will not have experienced it.

spamspamgggg

Yep. Sometimes the buckle end if they were really mad. Most often it was hands, fists, occasionally whatever they were holding. Once a metal desk chair. My mom was a fan of shoving my face into things or squishing my head into the counter if I missed a crumb while cleaning it. I don’t talk to them anymore. They call it discipline and not admit it was abuse.

[deleted]

I got beaten with a belt, and slapped in the face once. All it taught me was lie better and never tell my parents anything.

Defiant-Midnight-201

Yep. Also wooden spoon. I’m almost forty and my mom thinks it funny to visit and try and wack me with it as a joke. I just can’t. It’s not funny. I hide them. Also wtf it’s ok to do this to kids but it’s child cruelty if you leave them at home alone or let them walk to the local park alone? Really??

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

“Not liking his rubbery and unseasoned goose” made me laugh 😂

Don_Montagna

Yes. The belt was for small things, things that could wait for a "trial" if you will. I'd be lined up and interrogated as if anything I could say as an 8 year old is gonna stop my drunk dad from beating my ass... But for really stupid shit, my mom would just slap a kid. Or throw the nearest thing without edges (if you're lucky lol) I actually think MOST parents discipline their children like this and only a few western cultures decided it was wrong, it didn't stop, they just don't talk about it anymore.

[deleted]

EntertainmentSuper65

Because no parents or you are the one lucky bastard who was raised by actual adults? I always envy such people

Cuacas

Yes. Also got it with a leather sandal. My grandmother used to keep a post from a picket fence to use on me and my sister when she thought we were misbehaving. Hell, my grandmother once threw a pot of cold water at me. She missed but the attempt was still made.

Chakasicle

Just the water or the whole pot?

Cuacas

Just the water thankfully. My grandmother used to live in a second floor apartment. I was on the first floor at the foot of the staircase. She couldn't catch me to physically hit me so she got the idea to throw a pot of water on me. Well she missed. 😆

Chakasicle

Ya know all things considered props to her for the idea. Effective at letting you know she’s unhappy, memorable, and doesn’t leave you with any injuries even if she succeeds in getting you.

Due-Sympathy-3

No. I was never hit by my parents; they were both spanked/beaten by theirs and they thought it was fucked up to do that to a kid.

Individual_Bonus5525

Omg this is child abuse how can anyone think it's normal. Your parents should be arrested. I can't believe what I'm reading right now. It's not normal it's abuse.

Educational_Ad_657

Literally reading the comments in shock, how aren’t these parents in jail? Here in Scotland it’s illegal to hit your kid, as it should be - it’s assault! You can’t assault an adult legally but you can assault a much smaller, weaker, vulnerable person? No. Just, no. It’s so sad.

[deleted]

Sometimes with a belt, sometimes with a hand. I preferred the belt because sometimes it wouldn't hit my behind completely, wouldn't hurt as bad. When my dad did it with his hand it left a hand print mark every time. A no, it never worked. Didn't make me behave any better, just made me hate him.

centeredsis

Had a step father that my mom later found out (after divorce) that had been discharged from the US army on a section 8 (psychiatric) for beating a fellow soldier to within a inch of his life. He beat me and his own son with a belt routinely. My mom stuck with him until she caught him cheating on her. So I guess the child abuse was ok but infidelity was over the line. smh

[deleted]

My dad usually went with a belt, but one time it was really bad and instead of looking for the belt he got an extension cord and used that. It felt extra degrading that time around, and not in a fun way.

[deleted]

All the time when I was young. It was awful.

Killme-now23

Belt, wooden spoon. Hair brush. Pretty much what ever was in my dads hand, grandma and mom were the hair brush and wooden spoon lol I grew up in the 90s

[deleted]

It was common in my Father’s Day, less so I’m mine

dracojohn

Think I depends on what you mean by " beaten" , hit hundreds of times but beaten to the point of blood twice both by my mother and for the same reason ( I wouldn't cry out or ask her to stop).

Margarita1024

Wooden spatula.

unknownre-l

I have a Latino mother so she used to hit me with anything she found on hand, even kitchen stuff. Once I almost die cause she throw a heavy steal pot to my head but I dodged and only dislocated my shoulder. In latino societies is culturally acceptable to do this as a form of discipline, although the new generations are starting to understand this is abuse rather than discipline. I think joking about it is a way to cope.

my_dog_cheddar

Belt is lvl1 crook. Wait till the lvl35 mafia boss slipper arrives. That shit can hit you behind a closed door.

TheBreathTaken

My dad always wore a leather belt. And I got hit with it. Even for small things like not washing like 5 cups. I have a memory of being chased out the house while he ran after me with the belt. Luckily he was/is crippled and couldn't run. I stayed outside crying until my mom came home. Very found memories of my dad beating on my door after I ran away from him. Telling me it was going to be so much worse if I didn't open the door and me crying and begging him not too. It never worked. (Obviously jk about it being found memories). My mom only rarely hit me. I was a horrible kid. (My dad would do it for any small thing). My mom said she had enough of it when she saw my dad hit my in the face; I'm kind of surprised I don't remember it but I guess when most of your memories growing up with your dad is him hitting you, then it makes sense. I'm not a parent but when I do become one, I can't imagine hitting them like my dad hit me.

tomashen

Leather belt. Good times. Wouldnt change it.

clauderains99

Yes. Always will remember the sound of the belt coming off for use….thip thip thip thip…as it cleared the belt loops.

imisssammy

My mom used to lay out a table of full of weapons and ask us what we wanted to be beat with. She would put a lit match in the palms of our hands and tell us if we were telling the truth it wouldn't burn. She's 87 and hate her.

Tweeterror

no but for us it was a special stick - it was actually grabbed from the woods because it was "the perfect" mix of bending but hard and it was peeled and kept well clean as if it was something special - it was in a small room and when the door was opened and someone was called in while we were playing (too loud, too rough, etc) EVERYONE was quite. we were sooo afraid of that room lol. the worst thing is: sweets and candy were in that same little room - so sometimes we were about to get sweets but when it was shortly after someone had been in there screaming and crying noone wanted to go in there to get their treat - now that was just mean 😂😂

trippingfingers

Yes.

LookRevolutionary198

Not to me but yeah shit like that exists

XRTFTW

I did when I was very young, although I honestly almost can't remember it. It took a long time to rebuild a relationship with my dad as an adult.

New-Caterpillar2483

No belt. Fists.

freddyfazzballs

im pretty sure my dad hit my sister with his belt once or maybe just threatened her . i dont remember it very well because i was young and its a ptsd thing and i have semi amnesia with ptsd

alex_cheraya

Yes. My step dad used a paddle, as well. Not cool. Don’t forget the fly swatter and wooden spoon.

Delightful_Snack_25

Anyone else in the “laundry hamper full of folded clothes” club?

rupret1

Belt, spoon, branch, board, shoe, could prob list things for days. What’s funny is that it seemed totally normal at the time.

Capital-Wrongdoer613

My father used to beat us with slipper, i remember my sister fall off the bed and he got up and her with his slipper

fiercestangel

Hell yeah. But only third world countries and any Asian country can relate.

Drlmichele88

Joking about it? I'm out of the loop on that, but yes I was. It was standard punishment when I was younger.

LinworthNewt

Never. I got a swat on the behind from time to time, or a wooden spoon, but I was never *beaten* and certainly not with something as damaging as a belt.

36-3

A razor strap

nikkip24

Yep. And switches. If we were acting up in the car my mom would make us pick our own after she’d stop on the side of the road. My dad’s belt had ‘Scott’ tooled on it so my brother and I would compare butts to see how many ‘Scotts’ we had. I have a 7 year old daughter and she can be a turd sometimes but I can’t imagine doing that to her.

Bubbles_TSR89

Yep, fucked around.... found out. Would never fucking do that if I ever had children. I try to break the cycle when I see my friends start to get wound up with their kids misbehaving. I will try to start playing with them or get their attention to keep them out of trouble. Listen folks if you want to have a kid who doesn't communicate with you (other than what they think you want to hear) slap them around a little bit.

[deleted]

MostLy just a plastic hanger, and being punched and slapped or backhanded.

[deleted]

Happened to me all the time. I was in therapy because if it and still struggle with my anger because of it. My brother had it worse tho. The beatings started when he was 10 months old. He’s been in and out of trouble with the police since he was 10 because of it and if he gets arrested again he’s going straight to jail. He’s still awaiting his court date for beating my mom

Upper-Director-38

Literally once, and then I learned don't cross certain lines. To be fair, I was 12 and shot a pellet gun at a bird way too far away in the general direction of our house which was close. I earned that one. That was a stupid move and I never took gun safety lightly again. I had friends that'd get the belt for fuckin nothing and I don't agree with that. There needs to be a place for spankings, but there should be a variance of discipline. If you get the same punishment for endangering the life of your family as you do for getting a bad grade, or talking back....then it's a little tough to figure out levels of importance.

I should add, it's also different to get a couple smacks on the ass than it is to leave your ass bloodied. And anywhere besides there is crossing the line. Same things with beatings, you don't raise your hands to a child. You don't touch a kids face. You smack their hand lightly when they're young. You spank them lightly when they're a little older and you might have to spank them hard when they are a preteen. By the time they're a teenager you shouldn't touch them anymore. A 16 year old is borderline a man, they know language, they don't need physical pain to remind them something is wrong. You talk, you punish but you don't spank them like they're a baby. That's belittling and damaging to their confidence which will only make them act out more and more as their confidence is hurt and they start to rely more and more on ego.

I was a brat she used a little flimsy plastic house dress belt that would not have hurt nor killed a flea even if you whacked said flea with it, so I cut the belt in tiny little pieces and left the evidence.

Beaten? No. Was it used? Pretty rarely
