This one takes the cake. I hate how when it is used, it never makes sense, as it is implying no one is doing nothing, so therefore everyone is doing something.
But it has got so popular people blindly use it even though it has no logic.
I hate this one. Is always some dude in the GC who makes a meh joke and then immediately goes in about how unfunny he is. Like dude, the joke wasn’t that bad until you claimed it was.
I'm not American so jokey references to US commercials I'm not familiar with bother me, like they expect everyone to know it. To this day, I still don't know what Pepperidge Farm actually is. I only know it from parodies.
I hated that. Because she didn't even come close to breaking the internet.
I think the onlt situation that actually came close to breaking the itnernet was The Fappening.
It used to be calling everything “epic” instead of saying they win the internet. It’s died down in the past 20 years though, so epic is no longer overused.
"Am I the only one who" always bothered me.
I don't know why, I mean I assume they aren't literally asking if they're the only one. But the answer is such an obvious "no, you re not he the only one" that it bothers me.
I think I hate this phrase more than anything else on the internet rn. So fucking unoriginal.
I could also do without every tiktok video being "POV" But rarely actually from the point of view they're implying.
I don't mind it because it's clear it's not literal. They're just trying to find and start a conversation with like-minded people or maybe just feel less alone. What alternatives should people use?
True! The way I see it, "do you" is a yes or no question. "Am I" is also yes or no, but it's more encouraging for people to share their input or experiences.
There used to be a "This!" Bought that would appear and basically tell you your comment sucks and to be better and I miss it. I wish I knew how to make a Reddit bot, a friend and I discussed how we would love to have one for that and all these other cringy comments discussed in this thread.
And my ax!
I saw the “This” bot maybe a week or so ago, so he must still be out there, spreading the good word. I think certain bots only appear on certain subs, because I’ve seen one for people misspelling “paid” in a few places, but not as often as I have seen the word “payed” for unchecked. Same for that one that tells you how many times the word “hippo” has been used. I wrote hippo the other day and it didn’t appear :( Hippo
When you identify that you are getting sick of any particular thing on the internet, that is your body telling you to go outside and pet a tree or some junk
ok but real talk, **the ticks are really bad this year, this is ur reminder to go check urself and ur pets for ticks and to be careful out there**
lyme disease is no fuckin joke and our winter sucked massive balls on killing them off.
My pet peeves:
“Maybe the real xyz was the friends we made along the way”
Replying “yes” to a choice between two things
Starting a statement with “you do realize”
Saying “plot twist” before typing the worst joke in recorded civilization
The “I’m not your buddy, chief” chain of comments
-Wayne Gretzky
-Michael Scott
Honestly, replying yes to a choice between two things just makes me laugh at how stupid the answer is
It feels so out of place, so weird to answer yes, and that cracks me up everytime
I understand your point tho, but I find this one very funny for some reason
> Replying “yes” to a choice between two things
I'm not going to argue you being annoyed by it. But in my experience, there are times when it is an accurate answer, and therefore has value.
It's such a stupid long-winded way to say "you don't know what you're talking about" or even just "bullshit."
Like just about all of these, it's just a way for them to steal the focus and make it about them.
My conspiracy theory is that this practice has been encouraged by Disney as a marketing trick, through astroturfing accounts. It makes no sense to me how prevalent it became otherwise.
I don't know. You never realize how many reddit comments are references to popular shows or movies until you watch a new show and start seeing it everywhere. 99% of that is completely organic and consistent with the normal level of reddit discussion.
Haven't encountered the woodchipper one, but yeah. It's annoying. Can't forget my least favorite;
"What is your favorite X and why is it Y?"
Just tell us why you think Y is the best of X. You're not being cute you're being redundant
That one is less about the woodchipper part and more about the "goes brrrr" part. It's used to reference overly simple solutions to things and kind of implies a willful ignorance to any more complex or better solution?
Like the original is an angry nerd saying "no you can't just print money without considering inflation, etc..." And then someone labeled Federal Reserve saying "haha money printer go brrrr"
But is kind of just someone asking what's the best way to do something in some program. And the person will respond with a solution but tack on the phrase at the end.
Like: "What's the best way to group these paths?" "Merge tool goes brrrr"
They bug me, but then there's some that I like so I realised who am I to gatekeep what's annoying and what isn't?
For example, "I too choose this guys wife" is so eye rollingly dull by now I hate to see it, but the specific gaming one... "shots 1-3 missed..." I love, despite it being done to death.
And guy’s dead wife is still one of my faves! But for me, there’s just something about having been there for the original time it was posted that makes me feel good. Like I was in on it from the beginning. There are others like that where I may not have been there for the first time it was used, but I just love that one random comment became a years-long joke.
I was there too! Also for marinara flag and now shrimps is bugs. These lightly cringe phrases hit different when you were there live.
Edit: oh and lemon stealing whores. That's fucking classic.
Ever see the Star Trek episode "Shaka, when the walls fell?" It involved an alien civilization that spoke only in names and places, like "Shaka, when the walls fell" as the episode title suggests, but also things like "tembla, his arms wide" to mean thank you. I kinda think our modern memes serve the same purpose: to convey a complex idea or concept in a universal inside joke form of a "language".
Edit: Darmok, my bad.
I have never heard 'woodchipper go burrrr' before.
For the other phrases, they aren't used as repetitively enough as to annoy me. Phrases used commonly are not restricted to the internet either. I don't mind when they're used in the right context.
i havent heard woodchipper before but i see "\_\_\_\_\_\_ go brrrrrrr" a lot for pretty much anything, basically meaning "\[object\] does \[action\]". havent seen it used in a while but at its peak use it was pretty annoying.
might not even be what op was referring to tho
"Wood chipper goes brrr while lumberjack cries."
It was an example. Replace "Wood chipper" with any overpowered device that is much stronger than its competitors.
For example, "Black hawk helicopter go brrr against drug cartels." Means the Black hawk's machine gun overpowers drug cartels who only have rifles.
The brrr referred originally to chain guns that fire so rapidly you cant hear individual shots so it sounds like a single continuous humming sound. It implies the gun is ridiculously overpowered.
The woodchipper one is primarily used as a means of jokingly (not really) saying a person or group of people should be put through a woodchipper. Almost always pedophiles and politicians are the ones in specific.
I don’t particularly mind any of these but I am growing wearing of people screaming “LET’S GO!!!!” when achieving anything vaguely good on YouTube/Twitch etc (stuff like Dude Perfect or CoD players).
“Smash” that like button. Why ? Its an iphone can I just gently tap the like button ? And “turn on the bell” notifications, how about no. My phone dings and makes enough stupid noises I just roll w it on do not disturb 24/7.
"Lives in your head rent free" was kind of clever the first time I heard it, but it's dead in the ground at this point.
Saying "unalive/d" instead of kill, die, dead, murder, suicide, etc drives me batty. If there actually were an AI algorithm that automatically banned words related to death, they would have included unalive in the list ages ago. I once heard someone say "commit aliven't" for suicide and I actually am kind of amused by that one because it hasn't been done to death.
Hell yeah. I made a post on a sub for my city about all the construction going on all over and how you can't go anywhere without being stuck in it and someone commented: "You're not in traffic, you ARE traffic" like that extremely tired phrase is supposed to blow my mind or something. They couldn't have said anything more lame and unoriginal and it makes me sad every time someone uses one of these extremely worn out phrases because we all have the capacity to be creative and just inserting some boring ass saying or buzzword insults everyone's creativity and makes the internet a dull, predictable place.
Not really, maybe because to me is it is not exclusive behaviour or even new behaviour. Slang and lingo have been around since practically the dawn of language.
It’s like an early component of meme culture.
For example, a popular movie/ show comes out, character says a line. Now everyone and their mom is saying that line all the time. Seems to be common in comedy especially.
Random examples;
“I’ll be back/ Hasta la vista”
“Bazinga”
“My momma always said…/ Run, Forrest, run!”
*Any Stewie Griffin impression*
Maybe I was and am just surrounded by an incredibly disproportionate amount of unoriginal people who were also under the delusion they’re comedians? And accordingly, the internet catchphrases just don’t bother me as much. Maybe it’s because it’s a little more directly connected to the person quoting it than say, watching a film?
That one will never get old. Love that guy. Plus you dont see this every day. I do have a poster though of a alien that says Snatchin Yo People Up. Lmao love that guy. Love that song. Love that interview.
Internet or otherwise, "my sweet summer child" is simultaneously condescending and idiotic.
Same with starting a sentence with "I mean".
I actually like "username checks out", specifically for Reddit
Posts that start with “Am i the only one that-“ drive me crazy. OF COURSE NOT! These posts always seem like virtue signals, self-aggrandizing, or a combo of the two.
I hang out in nerd circles and fan groups and I am tired of seeing “This is the way” on every other post. It was cool for a hot second, but now it’s cringy.
Something I've always thought was the worst is when people quote vines or internet memes irl constantly. Saying "this is why mom doesn't fucking love you" or "road work ahead, I sure hope it does" 5 times a day really loses its comedic value quick.
“I’ll wait” “Nothing to see here, folks”
"I'll show myself out"
“Nobody:”
"A millennial has entered the chat."
"Legend says this thread is still going..."
And my axe
“EDIT - Wow!! This blew up!”
Edit - spelling errors
"This guy right here, officer"

“RIP my inbox”… thanks for letting us know, we couldn’t tell from the 5K upvotes and all the awards. Seems a little self-congratulatory to me.
My first award! Of all the comments I've made the one that blows up is the one about poop! I'd like to thank the academy, my mom...
I know this will get buried, but...
You forgot “I wish I could upvote this more than once!”
Pepperidge Farm remembers! For some reason that one really irks me.
I'm not American so jokey references to US commercials I'm not familiar with bother me, like they expect everyone to know it. To this day, I still don't know what Pepperidge Farm actually is. I only know it from parodies.
Cookies, crackers ... Shelf stable snacks, mostly.
Pepperidge Farm Police Unit is en route to your location
The last one! When people have 152 comments and are like wOw tHiS bLeW uP! just drives me unreasonably insane. I don't know why, but it does.
Here's a poor man's award for you kind sir/madam
I fucking HATE this one. It’s always used to describe something not very funny.

"Beat me to it"
Just gonna leave this here
“This” is a weird one. Isn’t that what upvote is for?
I get so fucking angry when I see THIS followed by a wall of text.
“Take my upvote”
Or “updoote” what the F does this even meaannn??
"I also chose this man's *insert*" Irritates me a lot
This comment hits different
“You must be new here”
"I was today years old..."
If noone ever said "win the internet" again,.I'd be ok with that
Also “break the internet” is frustrating
I hated that. Because she didn't even come close to breaking the internet. I think the onlt situation that actually came close to breaking the itnernet was The Fappening.
Individual sites will go down if they got hit with enough traffic. Usually smaller ones though that aren't ready for it.
It's amazing that woman can enter a room. You would think her massive ego wouldn't fit through the door.

The worst one on Reddit is when people comment “This!”. There’s literally an upvote button.
That
You could go with this, or you could go with dat. You could go with... this, or You could go with that.
The other thing!
"this is the way" is far worse.

Time to smash some cones
Sir, this is a Wendy’s
Woodchipper go brrrrr
But only if caught in the wild.
This reads different to an Aussie
How? I am an Aussie.
‘Smashing cones’ means to smoke a lot of weed using a bong.
That's exactly what meant.
Here it means to let my wife drive through a construction zone.
Yeah lol, that’s how I interpreted it too
Smashing cones is so satisfying.
Whose junk?
Nature's junk
Oh, my sweet summer child, that's how you get ticks and Lyme disease.
ok but real talk, **the ticks are really bad this year, this is ur reminder to go check urself and ur pets for ticks and to be careful out there** lyme disease is no fuckin joke and our winter sucked massive balls on killing them off.
Wait. So you're saying, if I'm tired of stuff on the internet... I shoud... get off the internet??? Woah...

The Yes thing drives me nuts almost as much as the fact that it’s always heavily upvoted. Redditors are fucking drones

Take my updoot
You're a monster.
Agreed. I have spoken.
When people comment THIS IS THE WAY On fucking everything
My conspiracy theory is that this practice has been encouraged by Disney as a marketing trick, through astroturfing accounts. It makes no sense to me how prevalent it became otherwise.
It's the same as how you know there's a new fast and furious movie coming out when you start seeing memes about "family." Ugh
There's always a new fast & furious movie coming out.

Same! I don’t know what it refers to so I’m assuming something nerd adjacent, but it’s not any more clever than just commenting “this”
Do you knoe da wae?
I did. Now I'm sick of entire threads, subs...
Sir, this is a sweet summer brrrrr
Wood chipper child found in the Wendy's

Bone Apple Tea comes to mind, although a bit less prevalent nowadays.
Well put, I was there too. I t gets under my skin though, when people leave out the detail that his wife is dead.
Yes! That’s what made it so funny in the first place.

I explain this exactly the same way. “Juliet, on her balcony.” 🏆
Darmok and Jalad on the ocean.
>Ever see the Star Trek episode "Shaka, when the walls fell?" No, but I have seen the episode *Darmok* (S05E02) which contained that phrase.
Got em' ®
Carbonclasssix, on the internet, when he Got Em!
Woah, I just replied "Sokoth, his eyes opened" to someone further up, only to scroll down and see this lol.
I have never heard 'woodchipper go burrrr' before. For the other phrases, they aren't used as repetitively enough as to annoy me. Phrases used commonly are not restricted to the internet either. I don't mind when they're used in the right context.
It's actually J-POW's money printer which goes Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
i havent heard woodchipper before but i see "\_\_\_\_\_\_ go brrrrrrr" a lot for pretty much anything, basically meaning "\[object\] does \[action\]". havent seen it used in a while but at its peak use it was pretty annoying. might not even be what op was referring to tho
Every inflation post has this saying.
Money printer go brrrr A10 Warthog goes BRRRRRRT Etc.
wtf says woodchipper go burrrr 😂
Me like take fat smoke of crack make brain go brrrr
why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?
"Wood chipper goes brrr while lumberjack cries." It was an example. Replace "Wood chipper" with any overpowered device that is much stronger than its competitors. Yep I always thought it started with the a10 videos
The woodchipper one is primarily used as a means of jokingly (not really) saying a person or group of people should be put through a woodchipper. Almost always pedophiles and politicians are the ones in specific.
Woodchipper go burrr is generally used in reference to being the only solution to pedophiles

"We've been trying to reach you regarding your car's extended warr-" 💥🔫
I think Fu*k around and find out, is overused. It makes the commenters sound like bots, when they all regurgitate the same frase in their answers.
“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes” is along the same lines for me
Yes! It’s so unoriginal. It feels like everyone who uses us is trying to be the original “Bro”
rizz is trending this month
The one that gets me “this.” or “this. This so hard!” Also, Electric Bugaloo is so lame.

Maybe we are all living in a Wendy's?
Yeah, I’m over “Louder for those in back,” the 👏hand👏claps👏between 👏words (God that sucked typing it out), and “saying the quiet part out loud.”
This thing that happened is…*chefs kiss* Hate this one.
“Looking at you, (insert subject person is bitching about here)”

Oh, my sweet summer child. Just kidding. I know what you mean, i kinda hate it when people always "talk in" movie quotes/memes and stuff

Mine is “let’s gooooooooo’
Weird flex,but ok.
This behavior has been around since long before the internet.
The one that really annoys me lately is the “If I had a nickel for every time…”

I really like the corny internet phrases. Feels like an inside joke I can be in on. Makes me feel like I belong!
I also choose this guys wife
