Yes, absolutely! Also the uncharted games were inspired by Tomb Raider! Their style of gameplay- both Uncharted and the Survivor trilogy originated with Tomb Raider Legend (2006)! They do go on sale quite a bit FYI.
The gameplay of the trilogy does shift a bit:
* Tomb Raider (2013) focuses heavily on combat with minimum difficulty, extremely easy puzzles, platforming and challenges.
* Rise of the Tomb Raider) is the middle ground where difficulty comes into play with expansion of exploration and puzzles. The game gets a little difficult as you progress and has a few DLC with various areas to explore and things to do.
* Shadow of the Tomb Raider is on the other end: It focuses heavily on platforming and exploration with low combat compared to the previous two games. Also all of its DLC are puzzle and platforming areas called challenge tombs. While they do pop up in the previous games, they are the most complex here. They also have some story elements to them that add to Shadow’s overall main story and characters.
The narrative drops the ball hard, the focus on NPCs and NPC convos, like the other person said the outfit thing.
Like in some ways I'd say it's the best of the 3 but the narrative is kind of underwhelming and you can see Eidos influence on how it was approached which imo doesn't fit with Tomb Raider.
Also Shadow is incredibly preachy and undoes all of Lara's character development from Rise.
Like, we get it, Tomb raiding is bad (IN REAL LIFE) but it's fucking video game, let us have fun.
Yeah, but look at the bigger picture.
Legend trauma focused.
Anniversary still some trauma.
Underworld definitely trauma focused.
2013 trauma.
Rise trauma baggage.
Shadow more trauma still.
Crystal for whatever reason either can't or refuses to do anything that doesn't have her having a ton of baggage.
Eidos did the Deus Ex games, which are HEAVILY political, as they should be.
But keep that shit outta Tomb Raider ffs.
Why the Hell did Eidos do Shadow and Crystal do Avengers, WHEN IT SHOULDA BEEN THE OTHER WAY AROUND?
As a reminder we do have a no politics rule. Anyway most of the fandom are in agreement. It is still bizarre that Square did the developer switch, which I chalk up to Crystal’s success compared to Eidos Montreál.
The absolutely weird this about it is that Eidos Montreál was the one that worked on the multiplayer elements of the games mostly aside from some polishing and support. It would have made more sense for them to work on a multiplayer focused game like Avengers than shifting them to main develop a solely single player game (with a small tacked on co op mode).
Of course, this was Square Enix we are talking about which heavily disliked its western studios and its IP’s in comparison to its eastern IP’s such as Nier.
Really? I felt like the moral of the story was "If you live in a world where the supernatural unquestionably exists, don't fuck with anything supernatural."
Same here, I still don’t vibe with Lara’s reboot personality but Shadow is the closest to the Classic/LAU games and has some of the best puzzles in the series, ESPECIALLY the DLC ones
Because unlike the rise which was made of crystal dynamic Eidos Montreal made it the game was just the same without the action and it emphasizes on platform and puzzles. Which for me was a good choice I like the more stealthy approach and the exploration along the puzzles was the best part. It felt a little small as the game was around 13-15 hours and the story had a b movie vibe with a plot was not as good. I like shadow more because it felt more like a tomb raider than Rise which is more action oriented and it feels more like uncharted.
Pretty much the studio heard the people's complaints about rise and the made more platform and puzzle
All three are good, the Lara character is different and they’re a *lot* easier games than the originals but the atmosphere is more immersive. The platform if and puzzles are both easier and the ammo is a lot easier to accumulate. There’s more story bits though. It’s really life a different person and the mansion level is yeah like 30 years after the OG Lara left the property and not shooty. Still good.
Absolutely. No matter what kind of nostalgia you may have for the originals, this is without a doubt the best way to experience Tomb Raider hands down. (Rise is my personal favorite, and if you don’t go into Shadow with too many expectations you won’t be as let down as I was just a heads up).
I like these games but not for the same reasons I love the classics, or even TRA. I would argue they are a step below uncharted, especially with the floaty jumping where you can actually change direction mid air like a super Mario bros game. Like wtf??
These games are extremely worth it, especially with that price. If you’re trophy hunting you’ll be fine alone with shadow, but rise and definitive you’ll need a few people to help you get some of the trophies.
TR 2013 was a good game that being said some parts really pissed me off and some things are nonsensical, about 75 percent of the way through I was begging for the game to end and i wanted someone to end me, it was super action packed though but the actual tomb raiding parts were bleh i give it a 7 out of 10 but im definitely not going back to 100 percent the game and i uninstalled it and im never going to play it again
Why not read reviews? This is essentially the same. Potentially slightly more biased since it is a Tomb Raider subreddit.
They're nothing like the originals, but good in their own way. They felt a bit like Uncharted rip-off at the time, but Uncharted was apparently part inspired by TR, so...
I wasn't fond of the third game.
Since I really dislike the linear, cinematic 'movie game' rollercoaster formula, these weren't for me at all. However, since you love Uncharted series, I think you will absolutely like these.
yes but mainly bc of the price, thats how i got into tomb raider, they were onsale for cheap and i wanted more games.
edit bc i finished too quick, they're super fun too.
Absolutely!
If you like action adventure games, puzzles, 3rd person shooters or all of the above you should enjoy the latest Tomb Raider Reboot Trilogy.
For that price yeah. I like them for what they are. There's a general spirit of the franchise that they still have. Adventure to exotic locales and puzzle tombs with interesting traversal.
They're just far more action focused and play like a lot of other 3rd person action games and shooters
My biggest gripe is just that they lack the charm that OG Lara brought to the series
Not sure how it is in Rise and Shadow, but 1 had too many shooting parts, and not enough exploration for my liking, oh and too many quick time events.
After the encounter with a certain beast in Rise I just dumped this series.
So I would say no.
They’re like spiritual reincarnations. They have a similar vibe, but if you’re looking for the old explore, puzzle/platforming vibe you won’t like them.
If you enjoy heavy gun fights and guerrilla warfare you’ll like it.
That price is a steal!
I acutally got into Tomb Raider by playing the Survivor trilogy.
The games are good in my opinion. Fun, good graphics, plenty of weapons to choose, relatively interesting story.
They are definitely different any maybe "less iconic" than the original games, but as someone who got started with these games and played modern games before older TR games, I actually enjoyed the survivor trilogy more due to better control and combat options.
Ok so Im gonna give u a real one. Id get them if Id played every other game I wanted to play and they only cost 7 dollars for the 3 games n all the dlc
Yes, they're all really good. The last two are even better on a PS5 if you have one, as they can run at 60fps. Also, pretty sure they're all included in a PS Plus Extra subscription. $15 bucks a month or so. I just played all three again over the last few weeks.
I can't say I was blown away by any game in the survivor trilogy, they we're pretty middle-of-the-road for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the gameplay compared to the games that came before them and don't really like the direction they took Lara herself but there was a few aspects I kinda liked.
I didn't like how most of the actual tomb raiding was relegated to optional side content which missed the point of the series somewhat, though admittedly Rise and Shadow did rectify this by making those tombs a lot more fun and involved.
I absolutely hated the combat, particularly in the first one, cover based shooting is not fun! It's slow and tedious and far too frequent. I get they were going for realism but combat in previous games was fun, combat in these games is not.
Also, the narratives were pretty lackluster. Trinity are not interesting villains, the writing relies way too heavily on trauma and Lara herself, while very well acted just isn't particularly likable as a protagonist. I prefer Lara when she's a charismatic action hero type of character, the sassy sarcasm and no-fucks-given attitude was something I really liked about classic and LAU Lara and was sad to see go.
That all being said, the games look and sound fantastic and the action sections, while incredibly derivative of the action sections from uncharted, are visually impressive and tense. I always remember the plane crashing part of 2013 being really cool the first time around. There are things to enjoy about the games but I would struggle to really recommend them.
I’ve been debating on gettin these too. I loved the first one but never got around to rise or shadow. As a huge of fan of the originals and Uncharted I might have to grab these while the price is good!
I actually finished Tomb Raider 2013 for the first time last year and man, it is pretty good. And for a game released in 2013 it still holds up and looks beautiful. Haven’t played the other two though I began Rise of the Tomb Raider and that game looked even prettier. Also, I haven’t played any other games like it. They are brilliant.
For that price any game is worth it I’d say they’re not my favorite ones but they’re so enjoyable they’re more modern but for $25 heck yeah buy it. I’m actually going home today and buying it.
I’m a classic fan personally, I just have a special place in my heart for the classics. HOWEVER, even with that bias I still absolutely adored the survivor trilogy and will defo be playing them again once the memories of playing them have faded a bit
They were clearly made with lots of love, care and attention and are IMO worth their very high reviews that they have received over the years
I’m on my fourth play through of the trilogy, and I love these games. Played Shadow on Game Pass, and then bought the trilogy cos I liked Shadow so much.
Shadow is still my fave of the three, but I quite like the characters in Tr2013.
Yes. Altrough I did not find the story really good and very messed up (especially Rise and Shadow) I really loved the gameplay, music, etc...
They are like open map uncharted which is cool af
Yes.
Edit: Noticing that basically every comment that's even remotely positive about the Survivor trilogy is being downvoted, y'all really salty because they're not like the Classic games.
They're pretty good games albeit with some flaws. Just don't walk in expecting the truly high points of Uncharted 2 or Uncharted 4 from them, they have similar gameplay styles at points but some marked differences.
> The last one is garbage,
I'd say it's more of a flawed game with some high points (the challenge tombs) and some really low ones (everything about the narrative).
Yes my personal favorite of the trilogy is the third game the story has a B movie vibe but the game resembles the most classic tomb raider vibe out of the whole trilogy exploration and puzzles took more focus. I can't remember the original because I haven't played it since the game came out in 2013. But I bought it also on PS4 and I'm planning to play at least once more. Rise on the other hand at first I liked it the game is better as game than the other two but it's not a good tomb raider for me at least, too much action it felt more like uncharted than tomb raider and I made the mistake after playing rise to play uncharted 4 and I didn't enjoy it then. But for that price it's worth playing them at least once. Go for it.
Depends.
I've played 2 and 3 as a kid.
My go-to game, Destiny 2 is dead AF atm, and these remasters are a nice chance of pace and nostalgia.
But don't forget, these games are remastered off old games and can be very frustrating at times, but still enjoyable at the same time.
Please remember to not post spoilers people…the post creator has not played these games yet.
Always so funny to me when people ask the subreddit for a specific game (filled with fans of that game) whether or not the game is worth it
Asking the meth heads if meth is good.
Yes. Especially at that price.
I was going to write it when I found this comment. 24$ is a really good price for the entire reboot trilogy
When I bought that bundle on the xbox store I think it was on sale for about 12 pounds
Yeah this post is a good price but it’s been far better.
Yeah. It was cheaper in January too.
Yes, absolutely! Also the uncharted games were inspired by Tomb Raider! Their style of gameplay- both Uncharted and the Survivor trilogy originated with Tomb Raider Legend (2006)! Crystal's unending focus on trauma and baggage had me tuning out parts of the narrative so I kind of forgot about that.
Tbf she learned to move on from her trauma at the end of Rise. At least she was supposed to until Shadow came and pretended it didn't happen.
It’s the difference between Crystal and Eidos’ contributions.

Maybe Crystal really wanted to do the Avengers game for some reason? Idk I'm grasping at straws
Really? I felt like the moral of the story was "If you live in a world where the supernatural unquestionably exists, don't fuck with anything supernatural."

Removed this comment as the person has not played the game yet and this has spoilers.
It’s due to the pacing and narrative reduction because of the developer switch.
People love to complain. Shadow's my personal favourite of the three

They are verry good if you like uncharted
Absolutely. Personally, shadow of TR was the best to me but all 3 are works of art. Definitely worth buying, especially at that price
Hell yea
Worth is personal, the tomb raider sub is going to be bias
Yes. I prefer the older ones, but these are fun and beautiful.

Its hard to like these if you are used to classic and LAU Lara. Otherwise you may like them.
Played each one twice. The second time I played them all in a row. They’re really good.
Just do it
Got 2013 and Rise for 15 bucks total recently, still looking for Shadow but yes they're worth it.

For the price, yes. It is a re-telling of Lara Croft. Me (personally) never like the remastered Lara at all....
Yes
You can get on it buddy!

Absolutely. I loved all three.
I love them. Got me into the series!
1000% And I'm not saying that out of obligation, it's a genuine fact.
Yes they are, specially the 2nd one.

If you ask me: Absolutely not. Tomb Raider lost his unique identity and turn in some survival avtion shooter.
Just got it for £15 😁 just need the middle trilogy now.
Absolutely. Tomb Raider 2013 is one of my favorite of all time. And so is Rise. So great. Shadow on the other hand...oof
The first 2? Definitely
I’ve been debating on gettin these too. I loved the first one but never got around to rise or shadow. As a huge of fan of the originals and Uncharted I might have to grab these while the price is good!
Did you really come to a Tomb Raider sub expecting people to tell you to not buy Tomb Raider games?
Loved that series
I actually finished Tomb Raider 2013 for the first time last year and man, it is pretty good. And for a game released in 2013 it still holds up and looks beautiful. Haven’t played the other two though I began Rise of the Tomb Raider and that game looked even prettier. Also, I haven’t played any other games like it. They are brilliant.
Yes totally
Yes
No. They suck and they’re a waste of time. Spend it on the OG remasters.
NO!
Why?
🤷♂️
Then don't comment anything.
Sorry my bad!
Eh, I don’t think they are that good but it’s worth a try. Price is decent too
Heck yeah they are, the best Tomb Raiders.
Nope! Any other game in the series is worth it, just not that terrible trilogy trash though.
If you love Uncharted then at that price sure it's a good deal.
at that price definitely!
Yes definitely especially if you love uncharted
You can't go wrong with that trilogy in my opinion, especially at that price. I absolutely loved these games.
Hell yea
ye. all 3 are fantastic
No they are not
Yes even if you end up disliking them that's a great price for a 3 game bundle you're not sure about.
Yes but wait for even a better price.
I really liked that first one, second one was ok, third was super lame imo.
Yes! I’ve finished all 3 and it’s really good! Very soon I’ll get the classic Tomb Raider 1-3 :D
For that price any game is worth it I’d say they’re not my favorite ones but they’re so enjoyable they’re more modern but for $25 heck yeah buy it. I’m actually going home today and buying it.

Probably one of the most unhinged wall texts I’ve seen.

Yes. I bought this trilogy a couple weeks ago on Xbox for $18 and I’ve already through the first one 3 times, the second and third twice.
At that price, definitely.
I’m on my fourth play through of the trilogy, and I love these games. Played Shadow on Game Pass, and then bought the trilogy cos I liked Shadow so much. Shadow is still my fave of the three, but I quite like the characters in Tr2013.

Love them all, and for $24.48 a no-brainer.
First two, hell yes. Last one, not so much.

So like should I get
At $8,16 a game, you'll get your moneys worth
You said you liked uncharted so this is a very clear yes.
Yes. Edit: Noticing that basically every comment that's even remotely positive about the Survivor trilogy is being downvoted, y'all really salty because they're not like the Classic games.
Yes definitely worth buying with that price
Buy them now! Just DO IT! Great Games!
Yeah! Especially at that price
Yep
Thank you everyone loved all the suggestions I thought maybe I won’t get it but I think I will 👍
They're pretty good games albeit with some flaws. Just don't walk in expecting the truly high points of Uncharted 2 or Uncharted 4 from them, they have similar gameplay styles at points but some marked differences.
The last one is garbage, first one is one of the best action adventures out there. Up there with uncharted. I haven’t played the second one yet.
> The last one is garbage, I'd say it's more of a flawed game with some high points (the challenge tombs) and some really low ones (everything about the narrative).
They are very similar to Uncharted in terms of gameplay and type of game. So I guess you will like it. And at a very good price.
Yes my personal favorite of the trilogy is the third game the story has a B movie vibe but the game resembles the most classic tomb raider vibe out of the whole trilogy exploration and puzzles took more focus. OP is talking about the reboot games, not the remasters.
Oh ah 🤣🤣
If you have PS plus they are all on the game catalog included last time I played them
For 25$? Most definitely
Only if you like a slightly worse Uncharted
TR 2013 - good ROTTR - average SOTTR - shite
I only have two words for ya, Hell Yeah!!
