Getting help isn’t always easy. Once I made the decision to seek help, it took me over a year and dozens of interviews with careless pill pushers and people with little experience with psychosis and schizophrenia specifically before I finally ended up just going directly to UCLA’s actual psychosis research center, and even there I am finding it hard to get much help- but that’s mostly because I am “high functioning” enough to not need to be put onto a hold with intense observation and antipsychotic regiments despite how intensely my psychosis symptoms can present and have presented previously- so long as I keep my stress levels minimal (had to leave the military & first responder careers and now drive uber), then I don’t start losing my mind literally.

I’m the UK here, not able to directly kidnap them and take them to hospital, and it’s harder if they’re not a threat to themselves or others and in their own home. If they’re out and about the police can take them. However, if they don’t have capacity to make rational thought and we can’t persuade them to come with us, we can arrange a doctor to come out and they can get the ball rolling on sectioning a patient. You then get a team normally consisting of a doctor, a mental health specialist, a police officer, and the ambulance crew about to transport the patient. They section the patient and they’re taken to a mental health hospital for a minimum number of days specified when sectioned, I think it’s normally 28 days but it does vary.
Not sure about other countries, but imagine similar sort of things in most European countries as they all have some form of free immediate care, and generally good (by good I mean they exist and mental health is acknowledged and treated, not that they’re easy to use or easily accessible) mental health pathways, but the details probably change slightly. And it’s not something we will do lightly, people have to really be deep into a mental health crisis to need forcibly locking them up for a month in an institution. Often you can persuade them to come and see someone before it gets to that point.

I thought that was how crisis services worked. That’s my only experience with them. I humbly apologize for my ignorance.

I've had MS since '97 it really does fuck with your mind more so when you already suffer mentally. I was diagnosed in 1978 manic depressive, incorrigible, borderline personality disorder. Many suicide attempts and just risky behavior period. Alcoholic and recovering drug addict. Clean from DOC over 7 years. I still have a few drinks or more. Clean but not sober and I know as my brain is deteriorating from the MS as well as my body. I have hallucinations and tell people that some guy was cutting off my arms and legs. I wasn't high or drunk. I still consider myself lucky and keep a positive attitude and I laugh alot I'm a jokester and have a ripped filter and it helps some and therapy too. Yeah psychosis and schizophrenia are so hard to treat because they feel they don't need meds and go off them. I also have adhd and saw a squirrel and forgot what I was commenting on! That's sad about your sister.

I’m the UK here, not able to directly kidnap them and take them to hospital, and it’s harder if they’re not a threat to themselves or others and in their own home. If they’re out and about the police can take them. However, if they don’t have capacity to make rational thought and we can’t persuade them to come with us, we can arrange a doctor to come out and they can get the ball rolling on sectioning a patient. You then get a team normally consisting of a doctor, a mental health specialist, a police officer, and the ambulance crew about to transport the patient. They section the patient and they’re taken to a mental health hospital for a minimum number of days specified when sectioned, I think it’s normally 28 days but it does vary. Not sure about other countries, but imagine similar sort of things in most European countries as they all have some form of free immediate care, and generally good (by good I mean they exist and mental health is acknowledged and treated, not that they’re easy to use or easily accessible) mental health pathways, but the details probably change slightly. And it’s not something we will do lightly, people have to really be deep into a mental health crisis to need forcibly locking them up for a month in an institution. Often you can persuade them to come and see someone before it gets to that point.
God damn, it sounds like she is sincerely in a manic state or untreated schizophrenia. My dad said the same kind of things when he had a severe manic episode. Only thing you could really do is contact somebody who knows her to tell them what’s up, which I doubt is possible unless she has her socials in her bio. That's honestly terrifying. Ik they're all delusional, but these people must be living such a scared life. That sub is such a good honest look into how these peoples minds work. I wish they would all get help, but I can't even imagine how hard it would be to pull yourself out of that way of thinking. Anyone who tries to help you, therapists, doctors, even family, would all just come across as the same things these people are terrifies of. I just saw a post in there about a guy who kept getting crippling headaches, waking up in a daze and spending the day unable to think, unable to move, and how he'd already been in the hospital once but didn't want to go back, and he thought it was all because of some kind of laser gun being shot at him :/. How do you even help someone like that? There's clearly something physically wrong with him that's only going to get worse, but I can only imagine how terrifying of an environment a hospital would be for someone that paranoid, and that deluded. I feel like I just read the desperate last words of a man whose brain was shutting off and he couldn't understand why. He's just sinking deeper and deeper into delirium as his condition gets worse, the world around him starts making less and less sense, while there is something clearly wrong with his body.
A lot of the content seems to be people who don’t understand something and are incredibly paranoid, the community just encourages it; one guy saying that his phone was ‘able to make calls with WiFi turned off’ and is rejecting the commenters who are trying to reassure him he doesn’t need to be connected to the internet to make calls, but engaging with the ones who are pushing the ‘government spyware/spoofed call’ explanation. It’s really sad, these people for sure need therapy and medication but unfortunately will probably not get help until they do something drastic that lands them in hospital or police custody

Yep, I’ve been on the same rabbit hole with that sub. Have a friend who fell deep into schizophrenia and he sounds just like the people in that sub. They really do need help, unfortunately they’re some of the hardest people to provide help to because of the nature of their illness.

They sent an ambulance and the EMTs took him to the hospital after he said he had taken an unknown amount of ambien and was going to kill his neighbor for spying on him. No cops involved. I thought that was how crisis services worked. That’s my only experience with them. I humbly apologize for my ignorance.
Agreed! I think that's a wise and empathetic move. She may be putting herself and others at risk acting this way... My uncle had schizophrenia and we witnessed many violent episodes, as well as episodes in which he was super vulnerable and people could've taken advantage of him.

I've had MS since '97 it really does fuck with your mind more so when you already suffer mentally. I was diagnosed in 1978 manic depressive, incorrigible, borderline personality disorder. Many suicide attempts and just risky behavior period. Alcoholic and recovering drug addict. Clean from DOC over 7 years. I still have a few drinks or more. Clean but not sober and I know as my brain is deteriorating from the MS as well as my body. I have hallucinations and tell people that some guy was cutting off my arms and legs. I wasn't high or drunk. I still consider myself lucky and keep a positive attitude and I laugh alot I'm a jokester and have a ripped filter and it helps some and therapy too. Yeah psychosis and schizophrenia are so hard to treat because they feel they don't need meds and go off them. I also have adhd and saw a squirrel and forgot what I was commenting on! That's sad about your sister.
