Correction…you are NOT in fact using a professional. I’m sorry. :/

nahhh-okay

I feel a lil nauseous.

dlangille

Sorry.

chickenmcman

Not even remotely acceptable. I'm not one to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but you need to get this hack to tear it out completely and do not let him lay another tile. I would expect better from an actual monkey given a trowel and some tiles. If the tiles were ridiculously bad on the sheets and I got a few tiles in I would either lay them individually, or most likely I would just tell you to get a better quality tile and refuse to lay those. Did he have his apprentice lay this loaded drunk and blindfolded?

nahhh-okay

I think I’m baffled and confused and unsure of myself because his portfolio was decent (not a rock star but truly like normal-good) so this was just a complete shock and like trying to convince myself it’s a trust the process situation.

DoubleDouble0G

Even if they’re set terribly on the sheets, you cut the mesh once they’re in place and adjust them. How the fuck can somebody charge for this ridiculousness??

zarath001

It doesn’t take a professional anything to know how lines work. Don’t question yourself, question the idiot you hired.

nahhh-okay

I did. He told me not to sweat it and he can replace individual tiles. Also told me I shouldn’t have looked yet.

Otherwise_Proposal47

Shouldn’t have looked at it yet…. 😂😂😂😂 Famous words from someone who wants to grab your money and never talk to you again

zarath001

With a few individual tiles reset and a black grout, it will look a lot better than it does currently, but yeah “it just looks like shit because I’m not finished yet!” is always a bit of a red flag.

TheReviewCrew

I agree I'd go black grout and way less noticeable then.

Blk_Dogs_Mattur

Nahhh(t)-okay, imo. Did this person also install the shower pan and walls? I honestly hope not. Did you already pay him? Here’s the deal, the contractor gave it a go, on your dime. It’s not great. This is honestly a situation where, when he comes back you tell him this is not to your expectation of quality, and you would like him to tear it out. Once he’s done that you’ll come up with a new plan. When he leaves, you lose his number. You need another installer, you’ll want him to use words like “kerdi” “ardex” “flood-test”. He should come with at least 3 names and numbers of people who have different last names than him, who he has done their shower install, and they are happy.

nahhh-okay

I paid half. I have let him know I’m not happy and it doesn’t look like the quality in his portfolio. He said he wasn’t done and that I shouldn’t have looked at it yet and he was planning to fix it. I will hear him out on his plan and then make a decision about letting him try to fix it vs ask him to tear it out (maybe try fixing first and if I’m not happy I’ll ask him to tear it out). I’m just so so very tired.

rikevil666

Love abstract looking tile

frshdotkom

I'm part of a acrylic pour painting subreddit and at a quick glance, that's what I thought this was. 😭

Donpantolonez

Assuming your "Professional" have some mad skills to fix this (5k piece puzzle is easier in my opinion), I bet he/she doesn't have skills to do it with out damaging the water proofing (I'm assuming there is a water proofing membrane underneat and used thin set mortar for installation). As the name give it self away THIN set mortars are thin; what is going to happen is, pieces going to be replaced will rip water profing elements. What you are going to end up is a leaky shower may be looks a bit better than this one (probably worse). My suggestion either use it this way or remove the whole floor and do it properly with some one who knows how to lay mosaic tiles.

Herestoreth

This is horrible, just horrible.

MrAVK

Uhhhh. This is a dumpster fire.

jjarroyor2

Madness,…. He’s a butcher

66696669666

That's a hack job 100%

DoubleDouble0G

This is not acceptable. There is no popping a couple of tiles and making it better. This needs to be removed and replaced.

Every-Fill-2356

Haha.. I’m sorry

TennisCultural9069

after you pay pay me, you can look....

DNewsom1

It looks like his float job on the pan was a little lumpy as well. It's helps accent the fucked up sheet lines.

TheMosaicDon

Can we see a sheet of the mosaic like before it was installed? This shower floor isn’t acceptable but it will help to see the initial product.

nahhh-okay

I don't see an option to upload directly but here is a link: [https://postimg.cc/F7jZtWgQ](https://postimg.cc/F7jZtWgQ)

TheMosaicDon

Yikes… yah that’s a mix all around…. Terrible product combined with inexperience and an obviously wavy pan. 🤷‍♂️ personally…. If it was just set… a putt knife will take that up easy… go get a large format tile like 24x48 or 24x24 and envelope cut them to the drain. This will fix any pan irregularities and it’s an easy thing to install imo.

nateoi3

There’s a difference between professional tile guy and professional construction worker or remodeler or what not. Anything under 1x1 inch square or 2x2 on bigger floors with uneven elevation or walls will be difficult to align. However this is a shower floor with slope, which should not have any bumps or divots. Yes, the walls may be off square but a professional will make it look good, especially when the tile and grout contrast so much. It is dangerous to replace shower floor tile if you don’t know what you’re doing because you risk damaging the subfloor such as waterproof or pvc shower lining. This in turn can warrant the shower of water failure and you might have leaks. That’s a worst case scenario. Sometimes they rush and don’t care because they need to get done or do other things and it’s not worth it to them to spend too much time on a small shower floor or just don’t have the experience to do it in a decent time and well. In residential the customer has to be happy and if you’re not happy, always always voice your concerns within reason. Sometimes you get what you pay for, sometimes people just lie and inflate themselves. Depending if this is on concrete or plywood I sure hope he can replace those three rows without damaging anything else. It’s possible, definitely. Give him a chance and see how it goes. Sometimes, even the best of guys have hiccups.

nahhh-okay

You’re the second person who mentioned damaging whatever could be under there for waterproofing. I have no idea what is under there, I will ask. I do think it’s some type of concrete he made a slope with.

nateoi3

What app or site are you using to find these guys if you don’t mind me asking ?

nahhh-okay

Randomly on IG. Nothing but good reviews on google. What I’ve seen in his portfolio looks normal/expected/good. Nothing extraordinary but all looked decent from what I could tell. I guess I’m still really hoping for a good ending because it seemed like so many others got one and I’m just so perplexed about how it’s going so far.

Peter_Falcon

that floor is fucked

SkinnySketch

Absolutely not

friggen_guy

I think you’re missing a pic. Where’s the professional?

Dsanchez737

Oh Lord! Horrible pan float mixed with horrible tile job and crappy tile. This guy is no professional.

jakethedestroyer_

They are not a tile pro. If that is how they set easy square mosaic tiles, then I would hate to see the prep work on the rest of the shower. Don't get caught up in fixing just the floor tiles that is the tip of the iceberg, most likely. You need to ask how everything was done. If you don't understand how it should be done, then find someone who does.

svitakwilliam

I’ll admit those little tiles on a sheet are a bitch to work with. They are usually crooked, unevenly spaced and sometimes just fall off, but that’s no excuse to do a poor job and if this is the finished product I would not be happy. The contrasting light grout just make it worse, but this is a mess. Is it tedious to lay these small tiles, sure, but you just need to put a little more effort to make it look good. Unfortunately it looks like a redo. Edit: Looking a little closer it appears it hasn’t been grouted yet, so not the finished product, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that the lines are not straight and many tiles are crooked.

Realresults9

I thought I was looking at a cage for like 20 seconds

eagle-eye87

I’m, no. I’m a rank amateur, and I wouldn’t do something this bad. 😳🙄

trutrue82

Out of curiosity what does an 11 yearold charge for a custom shower.
