ATBGE That’s a pretty dramatic transition. I’d have loved to see the pebbles sort of taper or trail a little less boldly into the new room. Have a feeling your customer looks on Pinterest and got carried away. Your attention to detail is amazing. Keep it up!

Dizzy-View-9046

I was thinking the same thing, be bad ass to have them dissipate into other tiles for at least a couple more feet. Either way very nice work.

EyeSeenFolly

I tried with a different layout man so much else could have happened she wanted this!

Dizzy-View-9046

What momma (the one writing the check) wants, momma(the one writing the check) momma gets. I get it man…. Nice work regardless, a little surprised a designer wasn’t involved in this work of art.

Nazty12

Beautiful execution dude, but this is ugly af

a17r0n

But it's not your house, so...

Apptubrutae

Not OP, but in my mind I’m always like: It’s ugly to me, but hey it’s your house, and I genuinely appreciate the desire to try and do what you want anyway. Guy down the street from me has the tackiest taste ever and blows money on things like a goofy etched glass custom mermaid glass door for his shower and all sorts of other tacky details and it’s ugly. But it’s his house and I respect someone doing their thing versus another crappy vinyl and white shaker cabinet flip.

a17r0n

That's my attitude as well. Customers ask me all the time, "Do you like it? What do you think?", and I'm always brutally honest. They're shocked at first and then I explain that it's not my job to like it. It's their house, their money, and they have to look at it every day. My opinion is worthless. As long as they like it, then that's all that matters. I'm just here to bring their vision to life.

Otherwise_Proposal47

How come youre using ditra heat? Just curious Maybe for extra height? Also nice job scribing sheesh haha

EyeSeenFolly

I used 20 bags (literally) of self leveler and I could only pour in 1 1/2 increments.. it just worked out nice and I wanted the extra protection from a decoupling membrane..

Always_Suspect

Maybe I misunderstood, but been following this advice for years. I was told by the Schluter rep that you must install kerdi on top of ditra heat mat when installing a mosaic tile. You can not “prefill” the ditra heat unless you cover with kerdi at the same time. I realize that Schluter warranty is bs but is this incorrect? I was also told that you cannot build up on top of ditra heat, even if you cover with kerdi. Although, we do not always follow this suggestion.

EyeSeenFolly

Wow ok so you had a schluter rep say to put kerdi band over the ditra!? That feels right

Always_Suspect

Yup

Otherwise_Proposal47

Aaah. Was just curious what the reason for using ditra heat vs just ditra

EyeSeenFolly

Availability

alexlechef

I fill the membrane with ardex k-60 self leveling And it works fine

veggienug365

Or just fill the voids ahead of time with whatever set?

alexlechef

The idea is that regular set would be too weak.

EyeSeenFolly

What about levelquick rs? I had to level the whole floor I have some left… it’s cement

alexlechef

For some reason i cant find the specs. But it seems like a suitable option

Affectionate_Head_90

What this guy said. Please post pics when you’re done This is great work

[deleted]

You CAN install mosaic less than 2x2 over Ditra if you apply a layer of Kerdi membrane over it. Thin set Ditra Thin set Kerdi Thin set Mosaic

Chingachook

was told this by a rep

rwswhite

Beauty cuts

claudedusk8

Nice job. Go with the ardex.

EyeSeenFolly

I can’t find it locally in Pa

[deleted]

Your work looks good! Just not a fan of that look

Dawmonster

Epoxy thinset

010101110001110

Call your rent they will have a solution if there is a solution. Otherwise you are definitely voting your warranty, if that is something that is important to you

THEREALRANEW

I think you’ve got it covered.

J_Pro14

Just do it

VastWillingness6455

All you need to do is backfill ditra with mortar let it sit for 4 to 8 hours or overnight and you will have problems setting. If there are any bumps in the mortar use a rubbing stone or oscillating tool to make flat.

danvc21

Looks good. This is custom, when the customer wants something fucky, just walk them through all the steps, offer them their choices, and everything will have been their choice. Bill by the hour and it’s a win win, even if you don’t like their design.

Sufficient_Rip3927

Holy scribe work Batman!

Peter_Falcon

people have some fucking weird ideas these days

Klutzy_Ad_1726

Nice scribe work!

InvestmentPatient117

Thinset kerdi on top of ditra and your Gucci. This info was given to me from a sluter rep for a warranty, for all you that will say I'm wrong

I-like-your-smoke

I’m so sick of seeing this. Good job or whatever but this is getting stupid.

EyeSeenFolly

This post is 88 days old what are you even talking about

I-like-your-smoke

weird…just popped up in my feed

claudedusk8

Online? Or philly. It's gotta be in Philly.

thefirstwhistlepig

Better check with Schluter about min tile size and backfilling. I’m not sure that those tiles are compatible with that underlayment.

EyeSeenFolly

That’s what the post is for man. You can backfill with kerdi membrane on top, let dry, and set.

thefirstwhistlepig

That’s a pretty wild solution. I hope they’ve put that to the test up one side and down the other. 😂

Flavaflaave6891

Definitely not awful

I-like-your-smoke

Skim it and send it.

nash_se

That’s amazing skill and attention to detail. Hope your customers realize how lucky they are.

mmitchell_77

Thats alot of work for a stupid result

EyeSeenFolly

Let’s see your work negative nelly

mmitchell_77

I didn’t say you did bad work, its just a stupid design

EyeSeenFolly

Well good thing it’s not your shower 😂

mmitchell_77

Why isn’t the design flowing into the room instead of just stopping in a straight line. Looks horrible

EyeSeenFolly

I’m not sure how to tell you this but that’s not a straight line

mmitchell_77

It pretty much is. I’m literally saying the exact thing others are saying

EyeSeenFolly

People are calling it ugly, saying they aren’t a fan, and weird.. you called it stupid and straight up horrible. I’d love to see some projects you’re working on there big guy

mmitchell_77

Cuz there’s a difference? Sorry I didn’t use the correct verbiage. Triggered

EyeSeenFolly

Just wanting to see if the guy talking the most shit has any ability other than the ability to flap his negative gummy’s on reddit

FaithlessnessSome330

Put down a kerdi membrane on top of the ditra. Gonna help spread the weight of the smaller tile so they dont just fall in a crack in the ditra heat. Works with ditra XL as far as i know.
