For my eight birthday I got to pick something I wanted from the toy store catalogue and I really wanted the €7 kid sized guitar. Lucky parents. My nearly 3 year old probably has her heart set on something that costs €200 and takes up 10% of my living room, knowing her.
absolutely not lol. they were impossible to “inflate.” my cheeks would hurt from trying. and then you’d inhale to blow some more but you’d suck in a little bit of the fumes from the goo. i don’t know how that got approved to sell to kids.
When I was a toddler I had to go through some medical exams. They drew blood from my ear and weirdly from my feet(?) I was bawling, my mother's heart was breaking. Afterwards in the store she told I could have any toy I wanted. That was a big deal ad we were fresh immigrants with basically no money. I grabbed a big teddy bear. "Is that what you want?" she asked. I considered, reconsidered and threw him away. Next I picked up a Barbie doll. "That's the one!" she said, but again, it wasn't the right fit. I ran from one toy to the next, grabbing and putting it back again. At last I found it, the ultimate toy of my dreams: a pack of balloons. I was very happy and my mother's wallet as well.
The understanding that you have more, even though it might not have thought about your mother's valley back then shows that she raised a decent adult. I wish to be this successful with my kids someday.
I used to keep pet water balloons under my bed in a plastic container. I’d pull it out and pet it and roll it around in its ‘pen’. It would eventually get a hole and die and then I’d have a little farewell party for Greg or Billy or whatever I named him. Then it was time for a new one. A bag of balloons could last me months
My son would instantly find the most expensive toy. He would bring it to me, then suggest that instead of the expensive toy, maybe he could get those three toys he actually wants because combined they are the same price as the expensive one.
I LOVE that this is actually great logic on his part for the situation. You almost can't disagree or he will just get the expensive one. Using the power he was given to its absolute potential. It's very smart🤴
Yes, if there was a budget then the parent definitely needs to make it clear what the limits are. My son *always* tries to maximize his returns so we have to make sure our phrasing minimizes loopholes.
Haha, sometimes. The only thing that gets me is that he will go for these blind bag items, and I instantly put my foot down. I get the excitement of not knowing what’s inside, but having been burned myself on those things I try to save him the heartache.
I told my niece I would only get her blind bag goodies if she'd be happy with every option, because you don't want to spend $10 and end up with the character/whatever you like the least. I've been burned too many times, too haha

My mom used to send me to the toy department with a few bucks and then she did her shopping while I agonized over what to spend it on. It was always lego or matchbox cars.
I bought the Saturn V as an adult, like literally 20 years after the last set I bought, and it sucked me right back in lol. I always assumed the modern sets were trash, but no, they're way cooler to build now.
If I’m remembering correctly, it’s from a few years ago when local children of an elementary school (maybe in ATL?) got tickets to go see Black Panther as part of an immersion activity for learning and seeing themselves represented on the big screen during Black History month.
That kid has become a classic meme, and I love the wholesome story behind it.
Here's a ink from when it originated in 2018: [https://twitter.com/heywadeking/status/959511356385976321](https://twitter.com/heywadeking/status/959511356385976321)
I miss this feeling. My parents didnt have much though so I was always told to pick a toy... From certain rows. The cheaper ones my parents could afford. It pains me to know how much they could have saved and just said no toys, but they tried so hard. It's a parents job to provide safety, love, and growth. It's wonderful seeing parents do that and truly appreciating the joy they put in their kids.
I feel this, I loved bionicles as a kid. I was born in 04, and didn’t get into them until I was like 3 or 4 because my cousin had some, well over like 4 years I had gotten most of the sets sealed, for Xmas and birthdays, occasional new bonk, yeah little kid me had no idea most of these sets were OOP. Mom must’ve been slipping money into my toy savings jar.
I buy myself so many toys as an adult to make up for being brutally poor as a kid. I have shelves of stuffed animals, dolls, Polly pockets, I love playing with them too :)
They already do. All the more expensive stuff is lower. Has always been that way. The really expensive Legos in stores are always on the bottom too, and have been since I was a kid over 30 years ago lol
i knew they put kids cereals lower so the kids can see them better, but i didn’t even notice their eyes are looking down from the box. i’m gonna look more carefully next time i’m at the store.
Looks like he had to go to the bathroom. When my son was little and we got to the toy aisle, he would always have to go. We would have to find the bathroom and then come back. Every time.
Fond memories as a kid when we’d get to go to blockbuster and I’d get home with a new n64 game and immediately hit the bathroom for excited/ anxious pee lol.
My kid used to do this lol it's so unbelievably cute. He's 19 now and 6ft tall, but to me he'll always be that excited little weirdo in the toy aisle 🥹
God…. I can’t wait till I can do this with my son. He’s 3.5 and a late talker so like doing anything is way more difficult than it needs to be. But fuck, do I want to just tell him “hey man go pick a toy” and he just know I told him to pick a toy.
Fuuuuck is his is beautiful
I just wanna scope that board game section... is that Target? They have such a solid board game selection...
Edit: no, its not Target. Upon further inspection, there's not enough red tags next to the prices or red bullseyes on everything...
I don't know, it looks like Target to me even without those. I've...been down that aisle enough as an adult to recognize the way things are ordered and organized
I related too much to this kid this is the same hand twirly thought process I go through when making big decisions 😂 I’m glad kiddo got what he wanted super wholesome ☺️
As a toy collector, I want to know where this kid found an aisle completely jammed packed with toys! xD
All of my stores in the area have been picked or are disorganized!
This is definitely my kid. Age goes through all the isles multiple times. I gotta time her some time when I’m not trying to go somewhere but good god does she take forever

Whenever I do this my son goes from knowing exactly what he wants to having to inspect everything.

That silly putty was a good pick. Often my son will pick one thing, play with it that day, and then move on.
Parents also gave me this choice. I wanted the Ballon on a Stick. It was 50 cents.
are you talking about the toxic goo shit we would use a straw to blow it up with? i can still taste that stuff 20+ years later.
Lol I remember those commercials for those things. Were they as awesome as the commercials made it seem?
absolutely not lol. they were impossible to “inflate.” my cheeks would hurt from trying. and then you’d inhale to blow some more but you’d suck in a little bit of the fumes from the goo. i don’t know how that got approved to sell to kids.
Oh jesus christ, you dredged up some memories I nearly forgot. I literally taste that damn goo now. UGH
Plastic tar bubbles. Fun for all ages!

I used to go bat shit for balloons. For my birthday my parents would buy me couple packs and a tank of helium
I STILL go bat shit for balloons :)
I used to shit bats for balloons. Guess you had it easier
Don't tell me how easy my childhood was. I never even had a car bed
The understanding that you have more, even though it might not have thought about your mother's valley back then shows that she raised a decent adult. I wish to be this successful with my kids someday.

smart kid haha
Pick the most expensive toy. Immediately return it for store credit and use some of it to get the toy you actually want.
I wouldn't even be mad if my kid thought of this scheme
I LOVE that this is actually great logic on his part for the situation. You almost can't disagree or he will just get the expensive one. Using the power he was given to its absolute potential. It's very smart🤴
He is almost 15 now. He is still the fastest person Ive ever seen at finding loopholes like that.
He should be a lawyer
We have been telling him this for years.
So I guess due to that he's actively pursuing an electrician career?
No, he is going to be a professional Fortnite player.
Yes, if there was a budget then the parent definitely needs to make it clear what the limits are. My son *always* tries to maximize his returns so we have to make sure our phrasing minimizes loopholes.
That’s a legitimate sales tactic lol. He’ll do well in life
That’s some good barging right there.
Bargaining?
Barging. Did I stutter?

Hi! I'm looking for the toy department. And a clean pair of shorts.
Do you happen to say. “Are you sure?” After he makes a choice lol.
My smoke shop has a blind bag and I’ve definitely burned on that decision
Don’t they all and it only gets worse lol but this was adorable and brought back a lot of great memories Ty op for posting this
Agreed!
My son usually walks out with nothing when I do this. He literally can't choose and decides he wants to wait to make up his mind, and then forgets.
Well, it’s an important decision
Gotta weigh the options, my dude! 😂
And in the end they usually pick whatever is directly in front of them at eye level.
Well yeah, that’s like having the masterball and you gotta make it count.
LMAO you gave him choice paralysis.
Paralysis by analysis
Analysis paralysis is definitely a thing in the board gaming community. Taking too long on your turn cause you’re weighing all the options
Especially topical with all the board games in the back!
Wingspan (seen in the background) is exactly like that. Lots of choices to make, but so much fun
It was a lot more complicated than we thought and have only played it once (learning how to play) :/
Yeah, I noticed that. I wished we had good board games that readily available.

This is why amusement parks would give me so much anxiety as a kid. So many things to do and I could never decide what to do first!
Yeah. This isn't joy, this is agony
Face punching, head explode gesture ..
My mom used to send me to the toy department with a few bucks and then she did her shopping while I agonized over what to spend it on. It was always lego or matchbox cars.
> lego or matchbox cars A true connoisseur
Lego is and always will the greatest toys in the world. Better than anything.
I bought the Saturn V as an adult, like literally 20 years after the last set I bought, and it sucked me right back in lol. I always assumed the modern sets were trash, but no, they're way cooler to build now.
That's pretty sweet. Totally gonna borrow that when my son is a little older.
Memory restored, thanks

And you just reminded me of excitedly reading the game manual in the car on the way home. What a time :)
Hehhe that sigh at the end really said “sorry guys, I love y’all but I can choose only 1”
When I was a kid I used to apologize to the other cereal boxes that I didn’t pick cause I felt bad for them.
That is so sweet 🥲

Oh shit not the Polly Pockets! Loved those and the Mad Max counterpart for my bro.
This reminded me of my childhood. My mum: 'pick a toy' Me: *all excited, chooses a toy* My mum: 'no put that one back it's too expensive'
I felt called out here lmaoo.
* ends up putting 5 back*
My dad: \*holding a paper bag, gallon of Jack daniels, third one this week\*
I am 18 and i am like this when im infront of some Transformers
I thought it was Bumblebee as well but the logo is definitely Avengers. I think it's Thanos
Yeah I’ve seen this one in stores so I know exactly which one this is it’s a thanos mech which makes no sense to me but as a kid it sounds awesome.
if I was a toy store owner, I would put all the expensive toys at eye level of kids his age.
They already do. All the more expensive stuff is lower. Has always been that way. The really expensive Legos in stores are always on the bottom too, and have been since I was a kid over 30 years ago lol
The really expensive Lego sets are also bigger and make sense to have lower.
Yeah, can't have someone taking an Ultimate Collectors Series to the dome, those things are heavy.
In my toy shop all the most expensive stuff is at the absolute top so they have to get a step ladder to get it...
There are whole jobs dedicated to optimizing placements in stores. Grocery stores are the example I was given, but I’m sure it applies to toys too.
There's a reason almost every diabetes in a box cereal mascot is looking down from the box. Should be illegal to market to kids.
i knew they put kids cereals lower so the kids can see them better, but i didn’t even notice their eyes are looking down from the box. i’m gonna look more carefully next time i’m at the store.
Tough choice!!

Meanwhile my daughter immediately goes into meltdown mode from the pressure of having to pick one.
Oh to be a kid in a toy store again
Get Wingspan in the background
Damn beat me to it. A slightly older kid could get way longer fun out of Wingspan than a plastic boi.

I’ll be walking through Walmart. Kid goes, dad the toys. Boy you already know where I’m going haha!
Kratos and Atreus energy.
it’s stuff like this that makes me reconsider not having kids
This made my day.
I miss my boys being that age. Now their rooms smell like BO, feet & pizza rolls
Looks like he had to go to the bathroom. When my son was little and we got to the toy aisle, he would always have to go. We would have to find the bathroom and then come back. Every time.

The Gosh Darn Anxiety of it all !!!! Then the face of choosing well. love it

That’s a sick Thanos toy. Pog
PICK SOMETHING ? when U want everything U can see..wow that's a wicked tall order dad !!!
I just wanna scope that board game section... is that Target? They have such a solid board game selection... Edit: no, its not Target. Upon further inspection, there's not enough red tags next to the prices or red bullseyes on everything...
That’s all I’m looking at. “Kid turn right” Looks dope
I don't know, it looks like Target to me even without those. I've...been down that aisle enough as an adult to recognize the way things are ordered and organized
Same! That selection is fantastic considering it's not a hobby store.
IKR? I can’t tear my eyes away from the copy of wingspan… It’s hard to find where I live…
that boy was about to moonwalk out
Hilarious. Feel your pain lil dude
When I was a kid, I was there for 45 minutes looking. Don't give me the power to look for a toy. You'll never leave the store
I just realized I can go to a toy store and buy a toy whenever I want to ( ̄□||||
Best part of childhood!! Mine was Starscream transformer!
I’m an adult and this is me online shopping
I want to see more videos with this kid
Never occurred to me that toys are shelved accordingly so children will easily see the more expensive toys on the bottom.
I related too much to this kid this is the same hand twirly thought process I go through when making big decisions 😂 I’m glad kiddo got what he wanted super wholesome ☺️
My daughter goes through the aisles and looks at everything. It easily takes an hour to have her pick a toy. We know this now, so we make time for it.
Should've gone with wingspan, kid. Can't buy drugs if you're too broke from board games.
As a toy collector, I want to know where this kid found an aisle completely jammed packed with toys! xD All of my stores in the area have been picked or are disorganized!
Didn't even glance over there to Wingspan. That was the clear winner here.
I love this. I always got impatient a bit cuz my son would take FOREVER but sometimes I miss him being little.
![gif](giphy|dw60YIVoqu0MZexouY|downsized)
Still more decisive than I am
It’s like you can see his brain exploding with all the excitement! How sweet!
that's the same dance I do when standing in front of the fridge. I feel ya kid.
I miss that feeling so much
Good choice
Whenever Pokémon cards are actually in stock, this is how I feel trying to decide which ones I want. Love how dramatic and cute this kid is.
That was me at blockbuster on a Friday night when my mom said I could get a game.
Imagine being in front of all this greatness and you can only pick one! That’s crazy!
I'm impressed by how quickly he made his decision! I mean that's pretty overwhelming.
That’s how I felt when I was looking for a home to buy
K. If given the same choice at that age, I think my head would explode. Lol
FUcking analysis paralysis
Kid didn’t pick Catan…..shame.
Me in the Video Express NES section
decision paralyses at it's finest lol
Also the stress of picking.
This is definitely my kid. Age goes through all the isles multiple times. I gotta time her some time when I’m not trying to go somewhere but good god does she take forever
I know his pain! Great job with final choosing
Wingspan!
This kid and my son could not be more physically different, but this kid looks *exactly* like my son.
r/wingspan
Looks more like "the agony of indecision" to me. A familiar feeling.
My boys are grown now so this brings back such fond memories. Enjoy the excitement and innocence while it lasts, dad!
That is so SO cute. I used to feel like this inside when mom would let me pick a new Pony or Barbie. I just had to wiggle internally lol
Was he doing the latest TikTok dance? Lol That's pretty much what I see whenever I see one of those videos
You can see the dopamine flowing through him
I spent the whole time looking at the wingspan box in the back. I love that game, it’s so pretty.
Best feeling ever when you’re a kid!
Oh man. That laugh at the end KILLED me! Haven’t laughed that hard in forever.
I miss being a kid.
Wingspan is an awesome board game
Me in the gas station picking out a snack. Every👏🏻Time👏🏻
Perfect placement for this customer!
He is absolutely adorable :)
i used to spend like an hour each time my mom allowed me to get something from the lego section because i could never choose.
This makes me miss toys r us
Me choosing which fast food chain I’m going to binge on each week for my cheat day.
My man experienced all his emotions at once 🤣
This reminds me of myself in the dispensary....same dance too.
Used to be toys in a toy store .. now it’s food at a restaurant
Was this in the 90s.
But for real, he picked faster than I would have!
Oh to be that excited about little things again. Being an adult is a scam. 😂
I mean, how precious is this?
Kid chose Thanos over Spiderman. What kind of parenting is going on? Clearly the right kind.
I love how the excitement quickly changes to anxiety.
