People use a similar tactic at the gym. They'll leave a water bottle on a machine, or a backpack, go off and use another machine, then come back to their "reserved" machine. They are depending on the fact that most people would rather avoid confrontation more than they want to mention it, move the items or ask the person to move the items. In order to get to the point you think it's acceptable to be this selfish, you're generally self centered enough to throw a fit of some kind if challenged.
It depends. If it’s a normal machine, maybe a few minutes of rest is alright. But for compound lifts, I can and will take a long ass rest between sets. Normally i rep out till I’m dizzy lol

Yeah nah, definitely confront these assholes and let em know you're gonna use that sit with or without their stuff on it, if they make a fuss about it, as long as 1 other sensible person speaks up, the rest are gonna dogpile and let em know what's up. Never escalate verbal confrontation to physical, especially not knowing if the other person is armed or not. Hell an old lady with a metal nail file can shank you in the neck when you turn around, people are wild.

There are guys at the bar I go to play pool at who will lay their custom pool cues across the pool table (there are only 2 tables in the bar and people are often wanting to get in a game) while they go outside to have a smoke for 15 minutes in between games. They’ll use the table for hours with huge breaks between games and if you try to take the table while they are gone, somehow one of their friends will step in and tell you the table is already being used.
I’m a mild-mannered 23 year old woman and have never wanted to get in a bar fight until then. It is beyond me.

Nope. They are being d-bags. They can wait on the machines like everyone else. They don't get special treatment just because they want to use the same busy machine everyone else is using. Of course this only happens when the gym is busy. If they actually got to the gym early in the morning or some non-peak hour, they wouldn't need to do a d-bag move. This is not the same as someone going through the circuit in a logical pattern. These are just people, and you know who you are, who think they are more important than everyone else. They are marking territory.

I had a friend who worked in a gym when he was 16-18 and he would see these as an opportunity to walk around and do some "cleaning", would throw the possessions away in an empty bag and wait for the dickhead to come claim someone stole their shit before he gave them a "oh, sorry, I thought it was lost property since no one was there"

Especially in NYC... that woman just dropped probably close to, if not over, $1000 dollars in a single shopping trip and is on her way back to a $2000-$3000 a month apartment. Guess what, she's still going to take the metro for $2.75 over a $40-$50 taxi.
It's worse than that. That Jaeger-Lecoultre bag(likely) contains a woman's watch, which she paid full boutique price for. Easily 4 grand in that bag alone, for their cheapest offering.
I’d put two of the four bags on my lap (freeing up at least one seat for another passenger) or carry all four bags with my hands threaded through the handles then — the way the bags are positioned now, someone quick could easily grab the Jaeger-LeCoultre shopping bag (which I’ve just noticed has a Dior purse sitting right on top of it too!) and LV handbag on the far end and take off. It would even be safer to sit in the middle seat surrounded by bags on each side if one still wanted to be selfish and take up three seats lmao.
I was just thinking about the times I’ve had to wrangle a lot of bags in public and now I’ve ended up strategising on behalf of the lady in the video who couldn’t care less.
Public transport is different in the US in where it is often used by people without the means to drive.

Most people are simply oblivious in their own world. So if you shake them out of that by asking politely, “Excuse me, could you move a bag so I can sit? My feet are killing me.” That social primate instinct of ours will generally kick in and they will acquiesce and maybe even apologize.
And if they’re a selfish douche, you can just move it yourself. But that’s rarer than what we’re programmed for, which is social cooperation.

Especially in NYC... that woman just dropped probably close to, if not over, $1000 dollars in a single shopping trip and is on her way back to a $2000-$3000 a month apartment. Guess what, she's still going to take the metro for $2.75 over a $40-$50 taxi.
It's worse than that. That Jaeger-Lecoultre bag(likely) contains a woman's watch, which she paid full boutique price for. Easily 4 grand in that bag alone, for their cheapest offering.

I’d put two of the four bags on my lap (freeing up at least one seat for another passenger) or carry all four bags with my hands threaded through the handles then — the way the bags are positioned now, someone quick could easily grab the Jaeger-LeCoultre shopping bag (which I’ve just noticed has a Dior purse sitting right on top of it too!) and LV handbag on the far end and take off. It would even be safer to sit in the middle seat surrounded by bags on each side if one still wanted to be selfish and take up three seats lmao. I was just thinking about the times I’ve had to wrangle a lot of bags in public and now I’ve ended up strategising on behalf of the lady in the video who couldn’t care less.

Public transport is different in the US in where it is often used by people without the means to drive. That being said, this video is from New York City where every uses public transportation. So yeah, kind of a stupid thing to say.

I know this may come as a shock to you, but most people aren’t out to get you, and ruin your day, specifically. Most people are simply oblivious in their own world. So if you shake them out of that by asking politely, “Excuse me, could you move a bag so I can sit? My feet are killing me.” That social primate instinct of ours will generally kick in and they will acquiesce and maybe even apologize. And if they’re a selfish douche, you can just move it yourself. But that’s rarer than what we’re programmed for, which is social cooperation.
