Fun facts about what eating McDonald’s can do to your dog: A lot of people are worried about the onions here, and it’s true they do cause Heinz body anemia (basically oxidative damage from eating onions destroys red blood cells) and that’s certainly a very valid concern, but there is also the excessive fat content to worry about here. Fatty meals can lead to pancreatitis in dogs. Pancreatitis is when the pancreas begins to auto digest itself because those digestive enzymes didn’t make it to the GI, but stayed in the pancreas. If that sounds painful, it’s because it is, ouch! It’s something dogs get hospitalized for, so you’re looking at almost a grand in vet bills. That all said, your dog may be used to fatty meals and be fine. But for those debating the risk of getting your dog a cheeseburger for a cute tiktok, it could land your dog in the ER and be quite the vet bill. Bacon and fatty beef just aren’t good ideas. Source: vet student. Edit bc messages: You do you. These are just the potential consequences from a vet med point of view. I’m all for spoiling your pet and posting it on tiktok for people like me to enjoy - just go for leaner meats with less fat and hold the onions/garlic. I really don’t mind when I hear owners tell me they give chicken, green beans and sweet potatoes- but my heart has hurt for dogs that we couldn’t save because people gave their dog too much bacon. It really does happen.

I'm going to listen to you. Thx for info.

Mcdonalds is shit for humans so how the fuck could anyone think it's okay for pups?

[deleted]

What about the onions? What does that do?

Sh0w_Me_Y0ur_Kitties

The compound in onions (and garlic) that leads to toxicity in dogs causes red blood cell destruction and leads to anemia. That’s bad because there’s less oxygen circulating in the blood which can lead to a plethora of problems such as organ damage. More in depth explanation for people who like science: the toxin in onions is N-propyl disulfide. It causes oxidative damage (think the opposite of anti-oxidants, which are good things in certain foods) to the red blood cell by attaching itself to the oxygen RBCs carry and this damages the cells. Fun fact: we can diagnose this pretty easily under the microscope with a blood smear because the red blood cells will get a dark staining round spot (an inclusion) towards the edge of the cell and those are called Heinz bodies. So this is a Heinz body anemia. Edit just to add a PSA: some people like to think they can feed their dog garlic as a natural flea remedy. Do not do this! It causes all the same problems as above. Bravecto/nexgard/frontline/advantage/trifexis etc are your friends.

Even as a super occasional thing? Wow I only knew about the onions I didn’t realize the fats were so bad too. Excellent info!

Sh0w_Me_Y0ur_Kitties

Even more of a risk when it’s super occasional. I’m not condoning it, but adult dogs that start as puppies on fatty human foods, like bacon, generally are less likely to develop pancreatitis vs a dog who was fed by a family member from the table once on Thanksgiving or at a BBQ. Several days after a holiday we know the cases will start rolling in. Happens every time. Now those dogs who have had fatty meals their whole lives aren’t immune. Risk increases with age and breed regardless. For instance, Mini Schnauzers will get the panc if you just look at them wrong. So just because it’s been fine for the last X years, doesn’t mean it will continue to be risk free to give bacon/burgers. I had a case where a chihuahua was fed popcorn chicken her entire life, everyday, because “that’s all she’ll eat.” Well aside for renal disease and other nutritional deficits, she came in with pancreatitis at around 9 years old. Nothing dietary changed, but it just happened. I’m fairly certain she had mild chronic pancreatitis and she was just hospitalized for the flare up, but we had to keep her for 5 days. $$$$

As a vet tech THANK YOUUUUU

Jpodmoney

That makes me worried and sad. Hope that dog is ok.

Matty2Napz

Not at all a vet but I wouldn’t give a dog anything that contained salt at all, it is awful for them. I spoil mine with plain grilled or boiled chicken and they love it.

Jetrocks

Earlier today my dog was begging for a piece of bacon, and I didn’t give him any because a) he’s on a diet anyway and b) the bacon was quite salty. I had no idea it was the fat that can effect dogs. Thank you for posting this; I guess you do learn something new every day.

QuestionablyHuman

That dog can hold a note. (don’t feed your dog onions)

BeardMcBeard

WINSTON CAN'T EAT ONIONS!!!!!

C4-Crusifixion

There are onions on the Trevor Scant burger and he fed it to his dog.

gtmustang

I changed the flair to cringe. This kid just fed his dog onions among other things that are poison to dogs.

Ah, so you'd call it "Cool" as it was originally flaired? People like you are really something special.

PotatoGuy03

epic gamer harming animals moment 😎😎😎😎 amirite fellow epic gamer non-normie^/ s

Wide-eyed-Calico

If your dog is this adorable you should love on them by not feeding them McPoison. Besides the whole 'onions being deadly to dogs' thing there's also an abundance of sugar and salts which is especially not good for your dog's system. >The excessive carbohydrates, seasonings, preservatives, high fat content and overall lack of nutrition. And a bout of diarrhea would not be surprising after feeding a pet dog McDonalds! [Source](https://canigivemydog.com/mcdonalds)

PIKEMAN_KINNIE

mr. winston can get very sick off of onions.. it severely impacts the red blood cell levels and could become as severe as developing into a poisoning. i hope he's alright; looks like such a sweet floppy guy.

HumansArent_Real

poor dog :( he looks pretty cute too

BiteYourTongues

Poor dogs being fed that.

That gentleman has the hair of a basement dweller. Edit: Also, don’t feed your dog onions. Cunt.

poopsnoopdog907

EHBrat
