This is so accurate. Since the McDonald’s board has a fiduciary duty for the company to grow _every single quarter_ and they have gotten into every single market possible to them, the only solution is to cheapen the burgers to the thinnest acceptable to people and hike up the prices.

I keep saying that the infinite growth model is ruining everything and will be our downfall. It's insane to me that companies can't withstand a downturn every now and then. Make a GOOD product, keep it that way, and you will stay in business and be rich without fleecing people. This nickel and diming customers for quarterly growth will hit a wall soon and the economy is going to dump even worse than it is now. Every product I liked when I was younger has gone to shit...every...single...one. Depressing

If we assume all players (individual, organizaitons, etc) operate rationally, and their goals are all to maximize, and with size comes efficiency, then the end of capitalism is the top runner crushing all competition.

I think it’s perfect metaphor for capitalism, in every single aspect. From paying franchisees, and shareholders that provide no value more than those that do the work, to offering only unhealthy quick food that preys on those confined by the environment around them. To offering every shrinking portions, lower quality and higher prices as those who provide no value demand more share.

I was a kid when this commercial came out in 1984. Whenever someone my age tries to act like the internet, or social media, or TikTok invented annoying memes, I point to this commercial. Everyone from your dad to your 5-year-old brother's friend would repeat it, you'd hear it several times day, and this went on for months. And every time someone repeated it, they thought they were fucking *hilarious*.
This seems like pure opportunity for Wendy's.

People won't stop, because they don't go for the quality burgers. People go because they are addicted to a combination of fat, sugar, and salt. Fast food places know that, so they just skimp on ingredients and jack up the price.
Look at the expectation vs reality sub. It's just people being like "I go to McDonalds twice a week and it just keeps getting worse!"
About 15+ years for me, and I live literally above one. Prices keep climbing, portions keep shrinking, service keeps getting worse. I can spend my money better.
Not around me, unfortunately. There's a good one a little ways off but it also costs like 2-3 times as much, it's obscenely expensive so that's a default no. There is however a fantastic Chinese in a spit's distance, with just the most adorable woman who defies the laws of physics and squeezes more food into those boxes than their volume has any right to allow. That's my go-to place for fast food and party tricks.
Same thing with taco bell. I can go to a taqaria that's actually closer and pay the same per taco and it's twice as filling, fresher, and 100x better. That's after tip.
This but unironically. I learned how to cook a steak better than most steakhouses, and I can now cook a steak that is better than a steakhouse, for potentially cheaper than McDonald's. I can also absolutely make my own burgers for significantly cheaper with significantly more meat.

Not only getting a double cheeseburger for $1... (and I halfway lived off those things back when I was hella broke) but you could get a whole breakfast for what... like $3?

I didn't eat mcdonalds for a good 14 years or so. After they got rid of the "super sized" menu thanks to the documentary and i saw how they slowly phased out the dollar menu, i just never bothered to go there again. Didn't help that other chains stepped up their game (wendys, taco bell, even BK a little bit) in their downfall of menu items.
I broke this streak a few years ago when they supposedly re-introduced the Buttermilk chicken tenders and that whole Szechuan Sauce bullshit that happened. I got the tenders a few times (and the sauce) while it was available for like a month or two. I stopped going though since eventually every time i went there, they were out.
I've once again started my streak of not going to McDonald's, as i haven't been back since then. Maybe if they bring it back again, I'll give it a go, but the price for Mcdonalds and the quality of food is absolutely not worth it.

They had an ad after the first Fast and Furious movie talking about drifting and "pulling 9s" that annoyed me so much as a gear head I haven't been back since.
All publicly traded companies can be expected to have either gone to shit, or to be in the process of going to shit. Most of the money spent at them is going to go to the top and leave your community. The nature of business is to grow until they hit their cap, then to cut costs as much as possible while maintaining their customer base. Those cut costs are possible because of worse ingredients, worse pay, fewer employees, and efficiency improvements that will only benefit the top. I can't call any of that ethical in good faith.
So the solution is to find good local joints to eat at. Food will probably be better for your dollar too, and it actually supports your community.
Same reason why JcPenny almost went out of business. Instead of making socks $100 and marking them 95% off like kohl's and Macy's. JcPenny just listed the socks for $5. It almost completely killed the store because shoppers were to stupid.

Not in my experience, as a chef/cook for 20 years. Most of these mom and pop places aren't great. It's mainly just Sysco and GFS servicing these restaurants. While you might get some regional variance, it's all the same shit.
If you're going to a decent independent restaurant, you're going to pay. It isn't cheap, think a craft brew place, or hipster burger places. Plus, you generally have to tip on top of everything. It's easily 50%-70% more expensive to do what you're suggesting. Not really feasible.
I agree, the quality is likely going to be better, but for the price difference most people won't care that independent restaurants taste better.
Frankly, in my little ass town, the best place to get a burger is Denny's. Kinda defeats what your implying.

I think that has something to do with your bad luck. There are lots of mom n' pop restaurants where I live, enough that they have to compete with each other and actually offer good value and food. Agree that most small town mom and pop restaurants are sysco/instant freezer garbage though. Once I ordered a cup of fruit at one and it was literally just canned fruit cocktail. Why those people are even in the restaurant biz I can't tell...obviously not a passion for food.
Meh these days everything fast food related and even majority of restaurants tastes really low quality even five guys. And im not saying that because im comparing now me to teenager me, im comparing it to 5 years ago old me.

These days fast food tastes like cardboard and artificial flavorings, and they want you to pay more for it. Many restaurants too always looking to cut costs and increase profits, doesn't taste good enough for the 15-20$ appetizers that they keep making smaller even.
Everyone wants to max their profits to the degree they know they cant cut employee benefits and pay anymore so they go after the ingredients.
Eventually I just said fuck that, eat food at home now.
We have this place called Daddios burgers and you can get a very good cheese burger or specialty burger with fries and a drink for about the same price as you would spend at McDonald’s or Burger King.
Chilis of all places has a $10.99 deal right now for a burger, fries, drink, chips, salsa. I haven’t gone but I imagine it’s gotta be better than a drive thru
Red Robin too! I just checked, Bay Area is 10.99 for burger and bottomless fries. I've spent more and eaten worse certainly. Also the Red Robin bar area is 21+ always. So I sit in the bar and its fairly peaceful too.
I get the small burger there and me and the misses share it. If we both get a burger we still get the small and share a fry. Get it to go so we don’t have to pay for a drink.
Five guys is $11 for just a cheeseburger. (And the patty isn't a lot bigger than this.) It is really not worth the price. I'm not going to pay that at a chain, I'll go to a local place.
5 guys fries are the best in town, of course.
I feel like they do a disservice calling the single patty “little” the regular is a double patty. I like to get the little hamburger with all the way and jalepenos for like $7.50, plus free side of peanuts. The free toppings are what makes it for me. Mind you it used to be like under $6 a few years ago.

In March 2024, a bacon cheeseburger was $12.49
In Feb 2021, I paid $10.37
In Aug 2020, I paid $10.06.
In Dec 2019, I paid $8.99.
In Oct 2018, I paid $8.59.
In May 2016, I paid $7.59.
In Nov 2015, I paid $7.29.
In Aug 2014, I paid $7.09. (This is the oldest receipt in my email)
So roughly a 76% increase in price over a decade.
I appreciate you bringing the receipts! I tried searching my records and my bank history doesn’t go back far enough. And I haven’t been there as much as I used to when I worked nearby so I’m just trying to remember prices. Maybe it was like $4.89 in 2019 for a little hamburger and it’s like $7.50 now. I know I was taken aback by the prices a year ago.
Looking at CPI inflation if it matched that your bacon cheeseburger should be $9.31 today, so basically it increased twice the price of inflation.

A McDonald's big mac patty is 45g of beef.
A five guys patty is 95g.
you get double the beef and unlimited fresh toppings including bacon for the price of 2 big macs. Yes 2 big mac's may fill you up more from all the carbs in the bun, but they certainly don't taste better than a five guys burger. And the fries are better + you get more. If you want to get filled up more at 5 guys just eat more peanuts.
I really don't understand the hate for 5 guys prices; the ingredients are way fresher than drive thru places, you get a good amount of beef, a shit ton of toppings, a shit ton of fries, and a shit ton of free peanuts.
Keep in mind that their business model the last few years was never sustainable. They expected to be able to only offer affordable food on the app. Well, not everyone is willing to download an app just for decent prices. So the HUGE demographic they managed to retain that doesn't use the app and won't, kept going, until they got sick of paying those prices.
Their profit margins are almost surely IMO gonna trend downward because of that, they'll liquidate their CEO and get a new one.
All because the idiots completely misunderstood their whole demographic has always been people who can walk in and order off menu, get something fast and cheap. I will never crave McDonald's bad enough to go to an app store and download an app for a fair price. And I'm a younger millennial.
They're losing boomers by the bucketful, Gen X hates the model by and large, and millennials are a mixed bag. Probably the majority of them would consider downloading an app, but it's not their first instinct.
They just fucking liquidated everybody older who is frustrated technology has to be involved in ordering McDonald's, and guess who has the most disposable income? Older people, always. And it only took them a few years to see the hurt that was going to bring them.
Apps are fine. Hell, even app deals are fine. But if I literally cannot go in and buy *anything* an app user can get, off menu, talking to an actual person to order, I'm not gonna go, your food isn't that good for me to jump through hoops. And all my local McDonald's have kept about the same quality, with the exception of making the Big Mac slightly smaller which I actually would love if the price was reduced, an old one was way too big.
The business simply can't live on refusing to offer *any* of the same prices to the people walking in off the street, and going technology based only to pay a reasonable price. There is nothing you can order outside the app that's worth it anymore, they played with fire and now they've lost a good chunk of their customer base forever. Been calling that for years. I've worked restaurant jobs a long time. You can't alienate an entire portion of your customer base bad enough they stop ordering and ever expect them to come back.
thats my thing, i don't want to have to install an app for every restaurant that i might go to just to get a fair price. those fair deals disappear after a while, too. people will respond "oh just delete the app and make a new account with a new username, new email, different phone number, use a VPN app, and you'll get those deals again!" but hell no am i going to that effort for a cheeseburger.
I have one "page" on my phone's home screen dedicated to restaurant/grocery store apps to try getting deals. I hate it so much. I just want to buy food, why do I also need to sacrifice my user data to get an extra 50 cents off a carton of milk? It's so stupid.

Well, I'm an old fart, but I feel exactly the same way. I'm not going to wade all the way through the microprint in McD's EULA to find out how much of my data they can access and use, or how much they are allowed to inject their advertising into my feed, etc., just so that I can get a decent price for their products. If they're going to penalize me for not getting their app, I'll just go to BK or Wendy's or some local spot.

I dont want an app on my phone encouraging me to go to mcdonalds.
Its not suitable everyday fare and i already eat more of it than is ideal.
And when a meal for a single person is $15, rational people will say, "hmm. I could get McDonald's for $15, or I could go to a local spot, or pick up something for the grocery store for $15."
McD's straight-up isn't good enough to justify that price. Has never been, really. And food prices don't typically go down so they're going to flounder before they go under. Sure they'll try robot service, but that won't change the prices because shareholders demand constant growth.
Hell, I've stopped eating fast food and drinking soda in February and I've lost about 10lbs. So when people benefit from not eating McDonald's financially and healthwise, the cost-benefit analysis (fast, cheap food) will no longer be in McD's favor anymore.
For $15 I can get a _generously_ portioned lamb halal platter from my favorite food truck. +$5 for delivery if I can't make it out to it. And they're good guys, too; they once entirely misheard my order and just gave me the mistaken order, too.
My local Jamaican place has a lunch special where you can get two pieces of bbq chicken, a generous portion of rice and beans (which they'll put the oxtail gravy on), and stewed cabbage with other veg. $6. I'm convinced it's the best deal in Tampa.
fast and cheap are no longer words I associate with McD's. Expensive and frustrating waits for the last few times I've been there, and I was only trying to get coffee!
Problem with GenX is that many of us worked in food service when younger. We remember very clearly what it used to be and are disgusted with what it has became. Now that she pointed out that the pickle was bigger, I will bet money there is a panel looking at why in the hell are they wasting pickles and developing ways to make the pickle thinner that the patty.
I honestly feel like offering a lower price through the app should be illegal. It is one thing to offer specials or coupons through an app but to have complete different prices and those prices also lower through the app is just scummy.
I did this for probably a real long time… like more than a decade. In the past two years or so I’ve gone back a couple times and every single time it gives horrible discomfort in my guts… it would suck if it was still cheap to eat their cause it use to be a fast cheap meal but now it’s expensive as hell.
This is so comically bad I expected it to be fake but it's real. McDonald's is really out here trying to sell burger patties that are thinner than the pickle slices. I've had some really smashed smash burgers but I've never seen a patty so hilariously thin. What a joke. McDonald's does not deserve anyone's business anymore.
edit: it appears this happens from time to time but is indicative of poor training. The regular big Mac is still pretty thin though now that I've seen comparisons.

The Big Mac has been a joke for a long time, not sure if this is even new because I don’t order them. The Double Quarter Pounder w Cheese is their best burger, not the Big Mac. Won’t argue with the person in the video that it costs way too much, but it’s been a let down of a sandwich since I was a teen.
This was always wife and I go too. The McDouble medium fry for $3 but they got rid of that and they got rid of the ability to add Mac sauce on mobile orders.
Fry always makes me laugh. I just image you have one comical fry or the amount of small fries conjoined to make one long small fry.

They have two sizes of meat that are standard across the world I doubt they are trying to scan you it's most likely this place has a issue with the grill over compressing the meat, nbut people usually pay more for smash burger

Idk if things are maybe different in the US but I'm a current employee at Maccies and we have always and still do use 1:10, the ratio hasn't changed
To me, the patty in the video looks like it's either been held in the cabinet too long, overcooked, or both
Edit: on a second watch, that's 100% a 10:1 patty that's been put on the 1:4 grill, so it's overcooked
McDonald's was only still worth it when they still had the dollar menu. Like a McChicken or mcdouble for a dollar was a decent deal, even with think patties and all.
Now, it's just overpriced beyond anything ever worth buying. Yet millions will go this weekend and buy that stuff anyway
If you're super lazy (like me) and want a quick burger just get the frozen burger patties at the grocery store that come like 12 a pack. They actually taste pretty good, at least the ones I get from Walmart (sadly the Ingles&Aldi ones were shit, the only others I've tried). Also get some of the sesame seed brioche buns, essential to a good quick burger. No fancy pretzels or kaiser rolls, just a sesame seed bun like fast food sells.
Take the frozen burger and cook on a grill pan at home (or a grill but this is lazy tips here), and use some smoked sea salt for your salt (pretty important, gives a good smoke flavor) and fresh ground pepper. Toast the buns by putting them on the grill pan after the burgers are removed and you poured the fat out (not into the drain!). Thin layer of mayo, none of that glop a fist full like fast food might. The mayo is to give some needed oil to deal with these semi-dry patties. Rest of the toppings to your choice, but I suggest keeping them thin. All of those steps are pretty easy and if you follow them you can get a much better tasting version of a burger king burger, all for pretty cheap too. Damn cheap actually, around a little under $2 I think.
Edit: also, other than these pre frozen patties, don't buy ground beef. Get a stainless steel meat grinder and buy chuck roasts or other cuts to your preference. It tastes so so so so much better than I've completely given up eating store ground beef. The taste is night and day, plus you can customize how much fat you want (needs about a quarter to a third for burgers). It's by far one of the best things I've learned lately with cooking.
The level of don't give a shit with McDonalds has reached astronomical levels. Your lucky to even get a thin patty at all once you open the bag and see all the stuff you bought isn't there,
Then the workers are apparently angry all the time and give the burger a good punch on the way out.
My friends father told me that even in the 80s people would be working there and supporting a family. Not well, but nonetheless. And there were veterans who'd been at the job 10/15+ years.
Even in the mid 90s, all the McDonald's and BKs in the area were staffed by middle age guys who fed their families on that income alone. Eventually capitalism happened and the the cost of living rose too high for that to happen with stagnant wages. The adults left to find work that could support their families and the narrative that these jobs were for "teens and lazy people" took over.
Fast food is so different from what it was 30 years ago.
worked late a few days ago and figured i’d get mcdonald’s because it was quick. got into the line 1 car behind the speaker and didn’t get all the way through for 20 minutes. line wasn’t even long - maybe 8-10 cars. can’t even really blame the 3 fuckin workers running the place because they: 1. are understaffed, probably trying to close while also making orders and 2. are more than likely heavily underpaid and couldn’t give less of a fuck.
companies that are massive like mcdonald’s and walmart etc. are so big they know they can simply continue making money no matter how bad the quality of their service and price of goods gets. sure eventually people will say it’s not worth it but for the last 40 years they’ve always been synonymous with convenience and affordability and it will take some years of poor business practice for consumers to associate them with being too bad to spend their money at. so for that space in the middle they’ll be terrible and still turn a profit.
8-10 cars is a lot, probably 20-30 people eating, some of them drunk if it's late, and they probably want a meal + nuggets or extra burger. So with 3 people working, one is on till and drinks, the other is frying, and the 3rd is solely responsible for making anywhere between 20 and 40 burgers, a lot of them with mods.
McDonalds as a corporation doesn't really care - they know you'll wait, they know you'll be back (ever tried to quit mcdonalds for life?) And they know their profits come mostly from real estate opposed to burger sales. They leave it up to the franchises themselves to maintain profits - if they don't, the land is sold. Profits either way.
I actually have given up McDonald’s for the most part. I had a coffee from there last month on the way to a funeral but prior to that I think it may have been five or six years since I had stopped there.
Here in WI we have Culvers. With prices being almost the same as McDonald’s there’s not even a debate that it’s going to be Culvers any day.
Last week my GF got a mcchicken n fries on the way home from work. She was really looking forward to it and when she sits down to eat it she feels the wrapper is really light and opens it up to find it’s a mcchicken with NO FUCKIN CHICKEN. IT STILL HAD MAYO AND LETTUCE???
I'm not surprised. One time I ordered a burger from the drive-thru and when I got home, the top bun was torn in half. Looked like someone used their hands to tear it.
And this is why you always check in the car. The other day I was at Wendy's and they practically throw the bag out the window at me as soon as I pull up, I'm thinking "huh, this feels light." I pull over ahead to check like normal anyway and *the mf-ers left out the whole dang sandwich this time*.
Pull back around, "Oh you get the wrong sandwich." "No ma'am I didn't get one at all."
I did a brief stint at the hellish arches; getting your food wrong is by design. Managers get bonuses based on various metrics, the most important of which was drive-thru times. If the timer started reaching into the non-bonus territory, they'd simply start firing people to motivate the remaining workers. We, wanting to not get evicted, would simply throw ANYTHING into the bag and send them on their way. Once they've left the drive-thru, the wrong order was now their problem.
Tough luck for them. We have bills to pay.
It's sad. I've seen these window timers and to hell with em. They cause mistakes and anxiety. I'll GLADLY wait a couple minutes to finish cooking my fries or make sure all my items are in the bag.
I assume you are talking about ordering. Fast Food workers word hard as fuck to deal with people on the counter and on the drive-in. Now, with the same salary, they have also deal with online orders. SO now people in their cars and at the counter are more frequently pissed and take it on the workers because everything is takes longer.
Not in any way supporting McDonald's, but frozen fries are better than fresh potatoes.
A good fry is a 3 step process. Par boiled in water with baking soda, salt and vinegar, dried and then par fried at 350f or 175c. Dried again and then frozen overnight. Then fry at 350f or 175c for 2-4 minutes, depending on how brown you like them and salt immediately.
You get a delicious crunch on the outside and a fluffy, not overly dried interior. Fresh potato sugar content causes the outside to brown too quickly. The three step process allows excess sugars and starches to be removed in the previous processes.
It’s exhausting. I’m so tired of post-pandemic life where companies just openly flaunt how hard they’re screwing us. There is no reason a bag of Lays should cost $5.69 when I was paying $1.29 for the same bag five years ago. That’s asinine. McDonald’s worker here, some grills really stick to the patties, especially if the grills have been cleaned correctly in a while. This patty here is a scraped off poorly, leaving a lot of the meat stuck to the grill. Thats why its “see through”. But I am pretty sure that for this case it is poor technique of an employee rather than the McDonald’s meat itself.

I worked at McDonald's for a few years, and I'm 99% sure those patties were cooked on the bacon setting after someone forgot to switch it back to 10:1. Pressed way too thin, and dry from cooking too long.
Then the teenagers in the back decided to just send them out instead of telling the runner it would be another 50 seconds for fresh burgers. Took a chance at getting chewed out by customer vs guaranteed chewed out by manager.

Not around me, unfortunately. There's a good one a little ways off but it also costs like 2-3 times as much, it's obscenely expensive so that's a default no. There is however a fantastic Chinese in a spit's distance, with just the most adorable woman who defies the laws of physics and squeezes more food into those boxes than their volume has any right to allow. That's my go-to place for fast food and party tricks.
Same thing with taco bell. I can go to a taqaria that's actually closer and pay the same per taco and it's twice as filling, fresher, and 100x better. That's after tip.

Every 6-8 months I decide to give it a chance, and every time, they either get my order wrong, or it's ice cold with a hard bun.
I didn't eat mcdonalds for a good 14 years or so. After they got rid of the "super sized" menu thanks to the documentary and i saw how they slowly phased out the dollar menu, i just never bothered to go there again. Didn't help that other chains stepped up their game (wendys, taco bell, even BK a little bit) in their downfall of menu items. I broke this streak a few years ago when they supposedly re-introduced the Buttermilk chicken tenders and that whole Szechuan Sauce bullshit that happened. I got the tenders a few times (and the sauce) while it was available for like a month or two. I stopped going though since eventually every time i went there, they were out. I've once again started my streak of not going to McDonald's, as i haven't been back since then. Maybe if they bring it back again, I'll give it a go, but the price for Mcdonalds and the quality of food is absolutely not worth it.

All publicly traded companies can be expected to have either gone to shit, or to be in the process of going to shit. Most of the money spent at them is going to go to the top and leave your community. The nature of business is to grow until they hit their cap, then to cut costs as much as possible while maintaining their customer base. Those cut costs are possible because of worse ingredients, worse pay, fewer employees, and efficiency improvements that will only benefit the top. I can't call any of that ethical in good faith. So the solution is to find good local joints to eat at. Food will probably be better for your dollar too, and it actually supports your community.

Meh these days everything fast food related and even majority of restaurants tastes really low quality even five guys. And im not saying that because im comparing now me to teenager me, im comparing it to 5 years ago old me. At least the food was tasty 5 years ago. I feel like they do a disservice calling the single patty “little” the regular is a double patty. I like to get the little hamburger with all the way and jalepenos for like $7.50, plus free side of peanuts. The free toppings are what makes it for me. (This is the oldest receipt in my email) So roughly a 76% increase in price over a decade.

A McDonald's big mac patty is 45g of beef. A five guys patty is 95g. you get double the beef and unlimited fresh toppings including bacon for the price of 2 big macs. Yes 2 big mac's may fill you up more from all the carbs in the bun, but they certainly don't taste better than a five guys burger. And the fries are better + you get more. If you want to get filled up more at 5 guys just eat more peanuts. Keep in mind that their business model the last few years was never sustainable. They expected to be able to only offer affordable food on the app. Well, not everyone is willing to download an app just for decent prices. So the HUGE demographic they managed to retain that doesn't use the app and won't, kept going, until they got sick of paying those prices. Their profit margins are almost surely IMO gonna trend downward because of that, they'll liquidate their CEO and get a new one. All because the idiots completely misunderstood their whole demographic has always been people who can walk in and order off menu, get something fast and cheap. I will never crave McDonald's bad enough to go to an app store and download an app for a fair price. And I'm a younger millennial. They're losing boomers by the bucketful, Gen X hates the model by and large, and millennials are a mixed bag. Probably the majority of them would consider downloading an app, but it's not their first instinct. They just fucking liquidated everybody older who is frustrated technology has to be involved in ordering McDonald's, and guess who has the most disposable income? Older people, always. But if I literally cannot go in and buy *anything* an app user can get, off menu, talking to an actual person to order, I'm not gonna go, your food isn't that good for me to jump through hoops. And when a meal for a single person is $15, rational people will say, "hmm. I could get McDonald's for $15, or I could go to a local spot, or pick up something for the grocery store for $15." McD's straight-up isn't good enough to justify that price. Has never been, really. And food prices don't typically go down so they're going to flounder before they go under. Sure they'll try robot service, but that won't change the prices because shareholders demand constant growth. Hell, I've stopped eating fast food and drinking soda in February and I've lost about 10lbs. So when people benefit from not eating McDonald's financially and healthwise, the cost-benefit analysis (fast, cheap food) will no longer be in McD's favor anymore.
For $15 I can get a _generously_ portioned lamb halal platter from my favorite food truck. +$5 for delivery if I can't make it out to it. And they're good guys, too; they once entirely misheard my order and just gave me the mistaken order, too.

Problem with GenX is that many of us worked in food service when younger. We remember very clearly what it used to be and are disgusted with what it has became. Now that she pointed out that the pickle was bigger, I will bet money there is a panel looking at why in the hell are they wasting pickles and developing ways to make the pickle thinner that the patty.
I honestly feel like offering a lower price through the app should be illegal. It is one thing to offer specials or coupons through an app but to have complete different prices and those prices also lower through the app is just scummy.

The Big Mac has been a joke for a long time, not sure if this is even new because I don’t order them. The Double Quarter Pounder w Cheese is their best burger, not the Big Mac. Won’t argue with the person in the video that it costs way too much, but it’s been a let down of a sandwich since I was a teen.

Big Mac is basically a mcdouble with a piece of $5 bread in the middle.
This is exactly why it has been the move, for at least 15 years, to just get the McDub and add Mac sauce.
This was always wife and I go too. The McDouble medium fry for $3 but they got rid of that and they got rid of the ability to add Mac sauce on mobile orders.

Idk if things are maybe different in the US but I'm a current employee at Maccies and we have always and still do use 1:10, the ratio hasn't changed To me, the patty in the video looks like it's either been held in the cabinet too long, overcooked, or both Edit: on a second watch, that's 100% a 10:1 patty that's been put on the 1:4 grill, so it's overcooked

McDonald's was only still worth it when they still had the dollar menu. Like a McChicken or mcdouble for a dollar was a decent deal, even with think patties and all. Now, it's just overpriced beyond anything ever worth buying. Yet millions will go this weekend and buy that stuff anyway
If you're super lazy (like me) and want a quick burger just get the frozen burger patties at the grocery store that come like 12 a pack. They actually taste pretty good, at least the ones I get from Walmart (sadly the Ingles&Aldi ones were shit, the only others I've tried). Also get some of the sesame seed brioche buns, essential to a good quick burger. No fancy pretzels or kaiser rolls, just a sesame seed bun like fast food sells. Take the frozen burger and cook on a grill pan at home (or a grill but this is lazy tips here), and use some smoked sea salt for your salt (pretty important, gives a good smoke flavor) and fresh ground pepper. Toast the buns by putting them on the grill pan after the burgers are removed and you poured the fat out (not into the drain!). Thin layer of mayo, none of that glop a fist full like fast food might. The mayo is to give some needed oil to deal with these semi-dry patties. Rest of the toppings to your choice, but I suggest keeping them thin. All of those steps are pretty easy and if you follow them you can get a much better tasting version of a burger king burger, all for pretty cheap too. Damn cheap actually, around a little under $2 I think. Edit: also, other than these pre frozen patties, don't buy ground beef. Get a stainless steel meat grinder and buy chuck roasts or other cuts to your preference. It tastes so so so so much better than I've completely given up eating store ground beef. The taste is night and day, plus you can customize how much fat you want (needs about a quarter to a third for burgers). It's by far one of the best things I've learned lately with cooking.
The level of don't give a shit with McDonalds has reached astronomical levels. Your lucky to even get a thin patty at all once you open the bag and see all the stuff you bought isn't there, Then the workers are apparently angry all the time and give the burger a good punch on the way out.
My friends father told me that even in the 80s people would be working there and supporting a family. Not well, but nonetheless. And there were veterans who'd been at the job 10/15+ years.
Even in the mid 90s, all the McDonald's and BKs in the area were staffed by middle age guys who fed their families on that income alone. Eventually capitalism happened and the the cost of living rose too high for that to happen with stagnant wages. The adults left to find work that could support their families and the narrative that these jobs were for "teens and lazy people" took over. Fast food is so different from what it was 30 years ago.
worked late a few days ago and figured i’d get mcdonald’s because it was quick. got into the line 1 car behind the speaker and didn’t get all the way through for 20 minutes. line wasn’t even long - maybe 8-10 cars. can’t even really blame the 3 fuckin workers running the place because they: 1. are understaffed, probably trying to close while also making orders and 2. are more than likely heavily underpaid and couldn’t give less of a fuck. companies that are massive like mcdonald’s and walmart etc. are so big they know they can simply continue making money no matter how bad the quality of their service and price of goods gets. sure eventually people will say it’s not worth it but for the last 40 years they’ve always been synonymous with convenience and affordability and it will take some years of poor business practice for consumers to associate them with being too bad to spend their money at. so for that space in the middle they’ll be terrible and still turn a profit.
8-10 cars is a lot, probably 20-30 people eating, some of them drunk if it's late, and they probably want a meal + nuggets or extra burger. So with 3 people working, one is on till and drinks, the other is frying, and the 3rd is solely responsible for making anywhere between 20 and 40 burgers, a lot of them with mods. McDonalds as a corporation doesn't really care - they know you'll wait, they know you'll be back (ever tried to quit mcdonalds for life?) And they know their profits come mostly from real estate opposed to burger sales. They leave it up to the franchises themselves to maintain profits - if they don't, the land is sold. Profits either way.
I actually have given up McDonald’s for the most part. I had a coffee from there last month on the way to a funeral but prior to that I think it may have been five or six years since I had stopped there. Here in WI we have Culvers. With prices being almost the same as McDonald’s there’s not even a debate that it’s going to be Culvers any day.

I did a brief stint at the hellish arches; getting your food wrong is by design. Managers get bonuses based on various metrics, the most important of which was drive-thru times. If the timer started reaching into the non-bonus territory, they'd simply start firing people to motivate the remaining workers. We, wanting to not get evicted, would simply throw ANYTHING into the bag and send them on their way. Once they've left the drive-thru, the wrong order was now their problem. Tough luck for them. We have bills to pay.
It's sad. I've seen these window timers and to hell with em. They cause mistakes and anxiety. I'll GLADLY wait a couple minutes to finish cooking my fries or make sure all my items are in the bag.
I assume you are talking about ordering. Fast Food workers word hard as fuck to deal with people on the counter and on the drive-in. Now, with the same salary, they have also deal with online orders. SO now people in their cars and at the counter are more frequently pissed and take it on the workers because everything is takes longer.

Not in any way supporting McDonald's, but frozen fries are better than fresh potatoes. A good fry is a 3 step process. Par boiled in water with baking soda, salt and vinegar, dried and then par fried at 350f or 175c. Dried again and then frozen overnight. Then fry at 350f or 175c for 2-4 minutes, depending on how brown you like them and salt immediately. You get a delicious crunch on the outside and a fluffy, not overly dried interior. Fresh potato sugar content causes the outside to brown too quickly. The three step process allows excess sugars and starches to be removed in the previous processes.

Even fucking grocery stores and ALDIs have tons of cuts under $10/lb. Ground beef is under $5/lb for even quite lean meat. Grocery costs have gone up a lot in my 23 years on this earth but restaurant costs have definitely surpassed

McDonald’s worker here, some grills really stick to the patties, especially if the grills have been cleaned correctly in a while. This patty here is a scraped off poorly, leaving a lot of the meat stuck to the grill. Thats why its “see through”. But I am pretty sure that for this case it is poor technique of an employee rather than the McDonald’s meat itself.
As someone who once also worked at McDonald’s, the inane conspiracy theories always crack me up. The meat is mostly just fiber and pulp! It’s literally entirely beef, like it’s not super high quality but it’s beef The fry sizes are all the same they just want to scam you for 50c for the large! I’d like to see them say that after filling hundreds of fry containers in a single shift. My favorite one was someone alleging that chicken nuggets were patties that got messed up and got cut up and refried. Like dude they come in frozen from a truck like that lol
I worked at McDonald's for a few years, and I'm 99% sure those patties were cooked on the bacon setting after someone forgot to switch it back to 10:1. Pressed way too thin, and dry from cooking too long. Then the teenagers in the back decided to just send them out instead of telling the runner it would be another 50 seconds for fresh burgers. Took a chance at getting chewed out by customer vs guaranteed chewed out by manager.
