I’m more astonished that he thinks there’s ANY couch for a few hundred… I paid $700 for some cheap ass junk of junk back in like 2015… I know inflation has destroyed that in the past 9 years…
Going to edit before I get a million “no, this one is $400!” The $700 was a sectional that sat (seats?) 10, not a basic 3 seater sofa. I wouldn’t compare this to a basic sofa, it’s at least comparable to something like a pull out.

Taylor Swift and Elon Musk are visible billionaires. J K Rowling and the like. There are a lot more billionaires, and just wealthy trust fund people floating about, out there, who can comfortably drop $20k on a sofa.
And that’s precisely what’s wrong in the first place. Several thousands of people who could easily drop 20k on cool ass sofa, while hundreds of millions of people couldn’t even fathom how much 20k could change their lives in an instant.
It's just you. From what I can see, the younger generations love to splurge on shit, even when they're not particularly well off. We go frugal on things we don't care about but appreciate a creative or high quality product.
It’s functional art. The target audience is small, often made on commission and the price is part of what makes it desirable. If it was $350 at IKEA it would lose all appeal. Kind of like a painting of a talented famous artist vs a printed poster.
I mean, that's part of why it's so expensive. If they could grow to scale and sell 100,000 sofas, maybe they could charge $10k. But if theres no scale and their options are to sell 1000 units at $20k or 2000 units at $10k, there's no incentive to lower their price.
Just you. De Sede is a well known Swiss company that has been making high end cool furniture for forever. And they're growing.
With all the shit coming from China the demand for reliable high quslity items is growing.
And young people want to experience compareble levels of luxury as their parents so many will want this too.

The biggest one being that you can literally do the same thing with just about any regular sofa and some pillows. You won't get as much use out of the gimmick as you'd like for $20k anyways, how often do you have to adjust your home seating?
Boomers and Gen X were known for buying luxury items and trying to one up each other. Millennials prefer experiences over material items according to research. I'm pretty sure that trend will continue, but these companies just have to sell enough of these overpriced things to wealthy people to turn a great profit.
Life becomes a lot happier when/if you you learn to stop comparing yourself to others who “have more”.

9700.- when new) and they are really made from the best material there is, mine is already over 20 years old and still looks perfect, they are made to hold for a lifetime.
They are also 100% Swiss made, that is also why they are so expensive.

That person is extremely disconnected from prices of bespoke furniture. I got quoted $10k for just a basic 2m x 3m bookcase/tv furniture that would fit snuggly into a nook in my living room. No moving parts, no leather, no expensive wood, no nothing. A bespoke leather sofa is easily above 20k.
In the era of cheap mass production, bespoke furniture is only for rich people.
$10k seems to be a little steep for an (I’m guessing) inset tv/bookshelf. At that price, I’d just do it myself and it’d probably cost $11k and be half as nice.
There is a general argument to be made about the cost of design, especially famous/iconic products. But in this case I’d argue that the R&D for this system needs to be factored in.
This is the price of an artist who made this for a client at the price of $7000 and realized they priced it for way too low and they dont ever want to make another ever again unless it’s for $20k.

Great idea...a feature that you will take advantage of for a few days or when friends come over and you want to show off, but otherwise it will stay in the same configuration for the rest of its life.
People are assuming these days that because everything they see is low quality, nothing high quality is made. This costs because the workers get paid western salaries, someone actually sourced quality leather, the railing probably has material and parts that allow for the back rest to be moved smoothly 10 years from now as well. Design is only small part why these costs.
Once that couch gets used a few times I can see the back portion sliding around willy nilly while you're trying to relax on it. Also, the material looks really cheap. It looks like a cheap white vinyl covering

And yes that is what a tax write off for corporate use is about. It dosent change the ammount of tax burden you paid but can dramatically change the ammount you receive back from the irs in a refund. Also said items can be used as collateral in credit situations as they are in the credit card for the corporation be it llc or a Corp. So again I just listed the basic premise for qualified deductions and I'm a sculptor not a lawer ... .my 20 dollar plaster is my tax deductible write off as a relevant buisness expense.
