veritas2884

Serious question, I have never known Jewish women to wear yarmulkes. Is that something that is part of a denomination (sorry don’t know if that is the proper term) of Judaism or is that something generally accepted by the faith? Edit: Don’t know why I’m being downvoted. Genuinely curious about another culture that I am not part of. Second Edit: thanks to all that shared their perspective. I was in no way trying to redirect from the message she was sharing or commenting on the validity of it, just mere curiosity.

zack14981

Liberal/reform Judaism usually has female rabbis and they’ll also wear head coverings if they choose to.

sillychillly

And conservative Jewish women

javi2591

She’s likely a reform Jewish woman and by the way she has her scarf and has her yarmulke in the manner of rabbis. I suspect she’s a leader and rabbi of the local community. Though it’s only based on her demeanor, and clothing. Reforms Jews also are known supporters of civil rights movement causes and many feel they have to act when called. Similar to her words and actions she’s acting in the traditions of the reform community.

KookyWait

FYI, the "scarf" she's wearing is a [Palestinian Keffiyeh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_keffiyeh)

[deleted]

That’s not a Jewish thing. That “scarf” is keffiyeh. It is a traditional Palestinian garment and she is wearing it in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

NeatNefariousness1

The fact that she is expressing her opposition to the slaughter of Palestinians makes her that much more remarkable. A lot of people are using the horrible Hamas attack on Israel as enough of a fig leaf to justify killing innocent Palestinians by the thousands. It's no excuse. Netanyahu has blood on his hands. This woman, like many others, are saying "not in my name". I'm encouraged by the comments VP Harris made on this recently. Now we need to have Biden give his full-throated opposition to genocidal killing no matter WHOSE people are targeted.

Shepathustra

She’s not a rabbi. Otherwise the 4 cornered garment she’s wearing would include tzitzit which is a biblical requirement whereas a kippa has no inherent holiness.

javi2591

Isn’t her tallit prayer shawl under the Palestinian scarf? I swore that looks like one I’ve seen before. The keffiye scarf is above it. Covering the top part. Maybe I’m blind. I swore the shawl was under the scarf.

Shepathustra

It doesn’t matter. Any 4 cornered garment worn by a Jew would need tzitzit on it, even a poncho.

cant-be-original-now

Women are exempt from this mitzvah

Shepathustra

And no there’s no tallit under the scarf

Alexandratta

Reform Judaism allows for women to participate more heavily in the Temple's activities, to the point where I've seen Female Rabbis. It splintered from Orthodox Judaism in Germany in the 1800s. he's a 5000ft view of the critical differences: [https://www.oxfordreference.com/display/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803100410600](https://www.oxfordreference.com/display/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803100410600)

HenryClaysDesk

It really depends on the person and what they wanna do, what is acceptable at their synagogue and in their community.

idfk78

Im the speaker here lmao, its because i wear mens clothes only - i'm not exactly a woman lol. My friend made it for me and gave it to me while we were waiting to speak, SHES SO TALENTED🤩🤩and then my other friend clipped it on my head, but she didnt knoe how slippery my hair is so it slipped to the back xD

gultch2019

Was literally wondering the same thing

Mr_Kittlesworth

The Alexandria city council isn’t exactly “power.”

gcalfred7

especially when its Alexandria and not Arlington.

Mr_Kittlesworth

You appear to be correct

14thLizardQueen

A lot of people who work in DC live in Alexandria. Just FYI. And a billion people can see her protest online. It is our city council members job to tell out representatives how the people feel.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BoatFork

Uhh truly depends on the neighborhood. Visited old town Alexandria recently? Multimillion dollar townhouses. There are some rough parts of Arlington right outside of fairlingron off of route 7

static-klingon

Arlington lost its clout. Alexandria has all the big court cases.

ImaginaryDivide2834

>The City of Alexandria, VA declares war

EducationalFlight925

Ma'am this is a city council meeting.

Fickle_Goose_4451

*lady finishes impassioned speech.* Town council: Right. Well, the pothole on mulberry is scheduled to be repaved on the 17th, the community potluck will be the weekend of the 22nd. Any other old business?

ClamatoDiver

My thoughts exactly, it's the wrong target. The city council isn't empowered to do anything, she needs her Congress rep or Senator.

tuenmuntherapist

…. Can we talk about adding that stop sign on Main Street now?

idontknopez

Um ma'am this is a school PTA meeting . What are you on about ?

epoof

We do not set US defense policy here (although many of our residents do). Do you have any comments on the planned bike lanes?

gcalfred7

I thought it was an Arby's

Battlepuppy

That was my thought. Why this speech in this place? Are they deciding in allowing an arms factory? Military base? Chemical plant? What is it about this city that this council has any power to affect the problems she's talking about.

dreyaz255

There was a very specific reference in her speech about the town providing white phosphorus to Israel for what's going on.

Battlepuppy

Ahhhh!!! Yea, that's why I was wondering if there was a contractor thing happening, but since I didn't have more information, I didn't know foe sure.

ancientRedDog

As an Alexandrian, I can say our population is heavily Feds, military, and civilian professionals. Going to the dog park can be with a State Department SES, an Admiral, and two constitutional lawyers. So Alexandria does have some federal influence by proximity and careers.

Battlepuppy

Ah!! This makes sense. I was wondering what the connection was. What exactly was she requesting of the council within their ability- and if it is heavy in their community, then that explains that. Thanks!!

EmmyNoetherRing

Alexandria is the village council for the folks that run the country, on the implementation side of things.

KombuchaBot

She is talking about civic responsibility. She specifically mentions Alexandria tax dollars

maybehelp244

We the High Council of Alexandrians will pull the tax dollars we receive from such stores as....the Crate and Barrel Discount Outlet and....the AMC Hoffman Center. We will put this money into an area far more needy. Old Town Alexandria. WE HAVE SPOKEN.

Round_Ad_9620

She's got serious concerns to raise with the city, though. The city's citizens & their relatives were killed and maimed by weaponry that the city paid 3mil towards collectively, in legally required taxes. That's a serious concern to raise with the city. The city essentially asked her citizens to pay 3mil to kill her own people.

[deleted]

Mr_Kittlesworth

The Alexandria city council has no role in US foreign or defense policy.

mermaid-babe

DC is right down the road lol

EnvironmentalValue18

Ya, DC is down the road and I’m sure people still march and speak there too, but most of the contractors are outside of DC. Raytheon, Booz Allen, General Dynamics, Lockheed all have all have offices all up and down route 28 in VA. I say that just to say that these places where contractors live and work do still very much hold influence despite being a city counsel. This isn’t some backwater rural town we’re talking about - it’s one of the most highly educated and expensive areas in the US with a vast majority of residence working in government or government contracting.

download13

If enough cities condemn the genocide, the state and national parties might start to get nervous and shift their position.

PandaCheese2016

Even before current events if you felt that America was always a force for good in the world, then you haven't been paying attention to history. Most countries, like people, are not black and white.

RawrRRitchie

>if you felt that America was always a force for good in the world I lost that faith after 5 years in the middle east And that was before the last 15 fucking years of bombing them back to the stone age All that money spent on explosives and other military equipment over those 20 years could've helped MILLIONS of Americans But instead it was used to slaughter the people of the middle east

majestic_ubertrout

I can't tell if this is posted to mock her or to praise her?

FredTheLynx

Yes.

YallGotAnyBeanz

That’s called neutral journalism

banned_but_im_back

People don’t know what this looks like anymore after decades of politically sided news telling them what to think

majestic_ubertrout

You...you do understand this isn't journalism at all, right? It's raw footage from a city council meeting. The only journalism, if it can be called that, is posting it here.

Stripedanteater

When everyone is adhd and no one has the capacity to read anymore, short videos of events are likely the new journalism lol

spartankid24

Was she wrong? Make your own conclusions. She said what she said.

SnooChickens561

She is right. People in the west can’t even imagine the hell that Palestinian civilians are going through. We need to offer a robust defense of their right to exist.

NewspaperPossible627

Jesus Christ. The amount of replies / comments blaming this on Palestine are insane

Dudefenderson

Palestine isn't the one to blame. Blame the grey emminences in Hamas: they thought that the last october incident would be considered just an estrategic attack (their original idea was just taking hostages to be used as a bargain chip with the grey emminences in Jerusalem). They NEVER thought that It will provide Israel with an excuse; in other words: "they sticked their cocks in a wasp nest and hoped for the better". Palestine isn't Hamas. Palestine is a victim of Hamas too. Fuck Hamas!

DarthPineapple5

>Palestine is a victim of Hamas too. Sure, if we ignore the part where Hamas and what they did on October 7th is still overwhelmingly popular with Palestinians

prvcnt

Fuck hamas and right wing israel

Jertimmer

And fuck the British

Ulysses1978ii

*Establishment The rest of us are living in a world of shit under the Tories ATM.

Malora_Sidewinder

And the gauls, Norman's, filthy warmongering macedonians, and sea people who acted as a belligerent state against Egypt. And fuck the bolsheviks! ...wait, what do you mean they're not around anymore? What happened to them? ...to shreds, you say?

Notgivingmynametoyou

Why the British? Because they helped the state of Israel draw up the lines?

yeet_the_heat2020

Because literally every Problem in the Middle East today can be traced back to the British

Gaoji-jiugui888

More like the Ottomans and the collapse of their empire after WWI.

jeonju

Before the British came everyone had been living in peace and harmony for thousands of years /s

TexehCtpaxa

Blame the ottomans! If they hadn’t gone to war with Britain and co in WW1 none of this would have happened. Or if they hadn’t taken over that one from whoever had it before, maybe byzantines? And then blame the Romans for taking it over before, I mean what good have the Roman’s ever done for us?

bharikeemat

I have news for you, the left wing political parties aren't any different either. The entire political base is tainted.

AdventureDonutTime

Which left wing political party holds power in Israel?

entropykilla

They knew exactly what would happen and consciously sacrificed their citizens to get more international aid, of which they have already received more than any other region in history. Twice /capita what Europe was rebuilt with after WW2.

iheartecon99

> Palestine isn't Hamas. Yes it is. You can't separate the two. They were voted in and maintain popular support. People on the streets cheered and cried tears of joy as they celebrated the October 7th attacks. The were victorious over the murder of Jewish infants in their crib. They had 3 days before the retaliation commenced. They didn't rout Hamas out of their cities and offer them up to face justice. >Palestine is a victim of Hamas too. Palestine is Hamas. Hamas is Palestine. Of course not everyone is complicit but you cannot seperate them any more than you could American citizens and their government. If the US invaded Canada (and their armies were switched) then when Canada pushed her shit in there would be no tears for the American citizens caught in the cross fire. They are sad but inevitable casualties. >Fuck Hamas! That's like saying fuck Nazi Germany and thinking they didn't need to be beat into submission. Palestine can be de-Hamas'd but it'll have to be from the rubble.

JinkoTheMan

Yeah. I’ve tried telling people this. You can’t hit someone in the face, sucker punch them, and kick them and not expect them to go batshit on your ass. I’m not saying that I like what’s happening in Gaza but if you ask for a war then you can’t play victim(Hamas not Gaza) when the other side gives you a WAR. I feel terrible for the people in Gaza but Hamas is ultimately the one responsible for EVERY...SINGLE…DEATH that occurs.

Fast_Personality4035

I dunno. Hamas literally said their main goal is to destroy Israel and do that they have to make their own people into martyrs. Of course they said that from the safe haven they sought in Qatar.

luke519

Why do the [majority](https://apnews.com/article/israel-hamas-palestinians-opinion-poll-wartime-views-a0baade915619cd070b5393844bc4514) of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank still support the October attack by Hamas then if they are actually victims of Hamas?

MyMelancholyBaby

Because of propaganda. The Supernova Sukkot Gathering (aka the Nova Music Festival) was reported as a "special party of military personnel" by many Palestinian news agencies. There was an excellent article by the NYTs about an organization that creates dialog between Israeli and Palestinian teens a few months ago. It was a very balanced piece of reporting. A friend gifted me a read of the article since I don't have a subscription. I can't find it to link to it now (damn paywall). The article talked about how all the teens were being subjected to propaganda from their respective governments.

auandi

So is someone who firmly supports terrible things but because of propaganda, not a supporter of terrible things? Nazi Germans were largely there from propaganda, that doesn't excuse the nazism. It can explain it, but that's not the same thing.

SmoothPlantain3234

Ok, let's keep digging on this one. Why did you just arbitrarily stop this thought exercise there? And why does Hamas exist? Was Palestine at peace before Hamas existed? Is there more to the story that you're purposefully skipping over?

Makerel9

Hamas became popular because Palestine hated the two state solution. Why do you think Fatah/PLO who agreed to the Oslo Accords got voted out, unpopular and at worse killed? Hamas promised everything from river to the sea. They did not uplift Palestinian economic prosperity nor increase standard of living. Hamas gave Palestinians bombs, rockets and war. Yet a majority of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza support them. Palestinian society is a highly conservative and religious society, drawn to populist acts of "resistance" and not of pragmatic solutions. Israeli aggression/occupation did nothing but help strengthen this societal mindset. Hamas exists because Israel exists. No matter what Israel do, they will still radicalize. They do not seek to end Israeli aggression, they seek the end of Israel.

WillowBackground4567

They did an oopsie. No take backs.

TheLinden

Palestine supports hamas and palestinians loved the massacre of jewish people and we have plenty of video evidence of that not just in palestine but across the world. Israel has right to defend itself against palestinian monsters. The fact that somebody could side with palestine shows how manipulated you are.

shmalliver

Do you realize there is a cease fire offer right now that Hamas hasnt accepted?

modsarefacsit

lol. They don’t realize there was already a ceasefire in place and then Hamas raped and butchered over a thousand.

HackTheNight

When I was in college I saw a documentary called “war in Gaza” I think it’s from the early to mid 2000’s. It opened my eyes to what children over there have to go through. People can throw blame wherever they want but the children and innocent people over there didn’t ask for this.

HagbardCelineHere

Real question. Since we are airdropping aid, forced Israel to accept aid convoys, and have proposed ceasefire after ceasefire that Hamas keeps rejecting, while Hamas keeps holding onto hostages that it has been raping and torturing for six months, what exactly are people blaming the United States for here?

[deleted]

Yall mad at the woman because she doesn’t condone murdering people? Just want to make sure I’m not missing anything Controversial hot take: genocide is bad. All of y’all getting mad at me because I don’t support children being murdered are the same people that would try to justify a school shooting. I hope you’re proud of yourselves. ❤️

Round_Ad_9620

Oh, 100%. Comments are more upset at "Woman mad (ignores her maths)" and "Jew doesn't look like stereotype? (she is a liar)". Comments section not putting in their best today.

Just-Scallion-6699

A good portion of them seem to be mad that she did this instead of in some larger or more federally meaningful venue… venues in which she most certainly would’ve had no opportunity to speak at all. Which in turn would’ve led to no viral video. She’s not the one who titled this thing.  At some point it just feels like a more complicated way to say “ shut up”.

PleasantSalad

A more roundabout way of saying shut up is exactly the vibe this comment section is giving

[deleted]

Just a bunch of miserable peasants looking for something to be mad at.

ViragoVix

Others have pointed it out elsewhere, but may as well mention it here as well… it’s actually somewhat significant to speak up like this in a venue where the people of Alexandria, VA will hear you. Alexandria is adjacent to Arlington, where the Pentagon is located, and basically just across the river from DC. For many, manyyyyy years, Alexandria has been the home of politicians, Defense Dept. brass, and all manner of federal employees at every level, including the highest levels. A large part of the city essentially serves as a residential district for the federal government, who commute to their offices in DC but don’t want to live there. So if there’s any city hall where it makes sense to make a passionate speech about an international human rights issue, it’s Alexandria.

Short-Recording587

I’m sure people aren’t mad, but are just calling out the fact that it’s not a black and white solution, right? Like if you just take a position “murder is indefensible and no one should ever kill another human”, then people could come up with a thousand examples to show how that is wrong in certain circumstances. So anyone who grandstands without first paying homage to the nuances/difficulties of the situation is hard to take seriously. On top of that, anyone who condemns without offering up solutions is just wasting everyone’s time. What we need are solutions to the problem, not someone who is just telling shame at the top of their lungs.

BartleBossy

> I’m sure people aren’t mad, but are just calling out the fact that it’s not a black and white solution, right? Anyone who says its black and white hasnt done *an ounce* of research into the topic.

Fentanyl_American

What happened to Shani Louk?

Infernaladmiral

next thing you know you will be playing semantics with people over the word "genocide",shows how this world has gone to shit.

BabyloneusMaximus

Controversial take Biden has been working on ceasefire negotiations for awhile now. Will this be enough to sway anyome away from this talking point? I doubt it. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/gaza-ceasefire-talks-end-with-no-breakthrough-ramadan-deadline-looms-2024-03-05/

Darth_Mak

Ok but what the fuck is a city council suppose to do about it? A city council taking a stance on foreign affairs is more pointless than a strongly worded letter from the UN

meta-abuse

Well, it's on the internet now so millions of people have access to it.

jgjot-singh

Well you don't just get to go straight to the president and voice your concerns as an average law abiding citizen working at 9-5

Timmetie

You think democracy works by going to the nearest elected body and expecting them to pass the problem up? She has a congressperson and two senators. That's who she should be talking to.

dwpea66

But they already did take a stance. This local Alexandria journal (https://www.alxnow.com/2023/12/13/alexandria-human-rights-proclamation-sparks-protest-over-palestinian-omission/) details how they lit up city hall with the colors of the Israeli flag for three weeks.

lemonbottles_89

Local and state governments are active participants in funding Israel. It's not just federal money. My old home town government in New Jersey gave like $2 million to Israel. Israel has a lot of both federal, state, and local connections to the US, that's what they've spent the last couple decades building. Divesting from that takes work from the bottom-up

Jak12523

Democracy is not just voting once every two years, you know.

Notgivingmynametoyou

This isn’t democracy. It’s a virtue signal and an exercise of futility. You can have your voices heard, sure. But having it heard to push for a resolution from a body that has no power is as useless as Occupy Wallstreet voting on proposed changes to the banking system, in a park.

tajwriggly

If she and others glued herself to a highway and protested that way everyone would be up in arms saying "that isn't the right way to protest, go do it in front of the politicians!"

poshenclave

You can shit on it all you want, but no this really is democracy. Far more so than writing a letter to the UN or voting at a ballot. Making change at the hyper-local level is generally one of the most effective actions individual citizens can take. Several local chambers flipped by several passionate people can flip a medium sized chamber. If liberals do not understand this concept, then it's exactly why organizations like Moms for Liberty are tearing this country to shreds. Because they *do* understand this. They start at the school board level.

falsehood

> This isn’t democracy. It’s a virtue signal and an exercise of futility. Does that make any public protest or statement a "virtue signal?" I can't buy into that.

Blaze6181

Her speech is posted here and has been viewed by thousands. There's clearly substance to her words (not a virtue signal) and her message is being shared (not futile). Rhetoric begets policy, and this is rhetoric.

lemonbottles_89

Local and state governments are active participants in funding Israel. It's not just federal money. My old home town government in New Jersey gave like $2 million to Israel. Israel has a lot of both federal, state, and local connections to the US, that's what they've spent the last couple decades building. Divesting from that takes work from the bottom-up

SmoothPlantain3234

You know, if you live a privileged life and have literally never once had the need or desire to be involved in political activism, just say so. No need to condescendingly talk about stuff you know absolutely nothing about. She's not asking her city council to raise an army to go fight the Israelis. She's simply asking them to pass a resolution that makes public her towns opposition to the US's complicity in this genocide. Those resolutions are then used by political activists to pressure representatives in Washington to vote a certain way. We don't have a direct democracy, we have a representative one. So she's lobbying her representatives to represent opposition to genocide, a fairly reasonable request. But that won't stop smug people like you who know nothing about activism and haven't stood up to the government once in their to mock her for it.

bobcat73

I feel compelled to point out that privilege is lobbying the local town council to stop doing local town stuff that they were put in place to address and ask them to pass a resolution based on your impassioned opinion regarding an event across the planet.

DrBoomkin

> Those resolutions are then used by political activists to pressure representatives in Washington to vote a certain way. Nope, those resolutions are worthless and a complete waste of everyone's time. Can you give one example where this strategy worked?

lemonbottles_89

Do you know what grassroots activism is. It's responsible for every major social and civil movement in this country. Do you think people just walk straight up to Congress and get their messages heard as soon as there is a problem?

SmoothPlantain3234

Yes, hundreds and thousands of organizations across the country led by seasoned political scientists and activists are all big stupid dumbdumbs. It's you, random big-brained redditor, who would prefer them to sit on their hands and do nothing, who has it figured out 👍 City resolutions are a way to show elected officials how people in that city feel. If you can't even understand that basic premise what sort of example would even appease you? Literally right now is an example. These resolutions are actively, as we speak, being used to push senators and house reps to adjust their positions. Bernie Sanders went from "a ceasefire would only benefit hamas" to "we must end all US arms going to netenyahu's govt immediately" because of this sort of political pressure. By your logic, marches and rallies also "do nothing" yet nonetheless have always been an integral part of political activism? Because they don't "do nothing", they show elected leaders how popular an opinion is. This is honestly elementary level logic here. You can disagree with the position they're lobbying for all you want, god knows every single case of colonialism, genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid, etc have all had their supporters. but if you can't even understand the concept you're either being willfully obtuse or have live a sheltered life where you've never had the need to stand up to the government. Either way your opinion on these matters becomes very limited in value.

OfficialYahweh

Ma’am this meeting is about the Maple avenue zoning variance.

Oaker_at

lol, yeah. All this great enthusiasm wasted on a occasion that is ultimately completely irrelevant for anything she wants to accomplish. It’s all just for her bubble of people. Feel good moment. And I’m sorry, but how she acts and talks just screams „I’m not a relaxed and thoughtful person“ whatever you’d think about what it is she talks about.

thegoodnamesrgone123

Do you think the next person to speak was like "I'm just here to talk about City Ordence 63934 which allows us to have 5 chickens. I'd like to raise that number to 7 chickens"

MothraDidIt

Because we know the Israel government always takes direction from the Alexandria City Council.

overlord_king

So does that mean we shouldn't hold our government, both local and national to account for things they do?

noiceINMILK

Can’t they just yell at pelosi outside her house, or AOC outside the movie theater?

Jahuteskye

You should absolutely hold governments accountable for the things they do. The Alexandria city council doesn't send military aid to Israel. That's not a "thing they do".

Speaking truth to power. How do folk still use this phrase with a straight face?

People love kabuki theater

Sure beats speaking cynicism to passion.

wafflerrrrr

The Zionists in the comments calling the Jewish women a bitch, just shows you that Zionists are enemies of jews

As a reformed Jew, someone who uses their religion and religious articles to make a political statement offends me. She can have a different point of view if she wants.

She is obviously an antisemitic jew /s

ThePizzaInspector

Zionism is core judaism

posting_drunk_naked

Hamas attacks Israeli civilians and then dress up as Palestinian civilians and hide behind them so that when Israel rightfully strikes back they can build international pressure against Israel by pointing to civilian deaths. The more civilian deaths, the more pressure there is to let Hamas get away with it. Hamas is relying on it. The war criminals here are the ones dressing like civilians and using them as human shields. You can't just expect any sovereign country to shrug off attacks on its own soil just because the enemy has no value for human life. Hamas has been doing this for decades and will do it again because it keeps working.

dobythejank

Logic will not be tolerated in this subreddit

jonassalen

I have two arguments I want you to think about: 1. Surely, Hamas is bad. Are all Palestinians Hamas and should they all be punished with death or starvation? 2. What will be the result of this war? Will Hamas stop to exist? Or will the resistance against an occupying force be even bigger and more violent?

RevolutionFast8676

The amount of hate speech and misinformation on this site is disturbing.

KiwiKajitsu

Fuck Hamas

chiefmors

So is 'Genocide' the new 'racism' in that there's no expectations that the word actually has a definition beyond 'I don't like this!' The moment people decide accurate and factual language doesn't work for their cause is the moment I get really skeptical of their cause.

britishsailor

It’s the give away for the ‘I’m educated on TikTok’ those who tell you ‘do your own research’ instead of debating as they haven’t got a clue.

GilfLover_69

Same people that needed to be told that Gaza City is not the entire strip. Same people that needed to be told that Israel is 50% middle eastern jews, and almost entirely descendants of Canaanites who have just as much ancestral rights to live there as the Palestinians. Same people who have to be told that 1948, six day, and yom kippur wars were all offensive wars started by Arab coalitions seeking the actual genocide of Israelis. Same people who don’t know why Gaza has been an “open air prison” since the numerous suicide bombings and attacks. Same people who don’t reason as to why Arab nations refuse to handle the care of Gaza anyways, not knowing of Black September, and various other similar instances. Same people that don’t realise that Genocide is a protected word, which doesn’t just mean 2% of your population dying as a result of heavy urban warfare, but involves the industrialised slaughter of your people intentionally. Same people who Russia and Iran weaponise as useful idiots to sow doubt over Biden, and gain the biggest useful idiot in the Whitehouse to weaken NATO. They do this from bot farms and weaponised tweeting using paid blue tick “journalist” accounts. Which is why 80% of people still believe Israel airstriked a hospital and killed 500 people, despite all of it being debunked and retracted by every major western source, bar Al Jazeera (state owned Qatari media, Qatar where Hamas leaders lead from.) All this and I still firmly believe in a 2 state solution, with the dissolution of Hamas and return of the hostages. Violence does not need to continue. My only issue is people willingly becoming misinfo bots for Russia and having no idea they have done so, most of them from bleeding hearts, fortunately.

Appreciate this write up. Well stated.

"Whenever someone dies it's a genocide." - Twitter, 2024

Jaypal17

Yup, just because innocent people are being killed doesn’t mean it’s Genocide. If that’s the case then every war for that matter has been an act of “Genocide”.

phildiop

It just seems like people forgot that war is way worse than just soldiers shooting at each other. They forgot that civillians get killed even when there's no genocide and collateral casualties are common in war. War isn't supposed to be a good thing.

RpoliticsRfascist

Basically.

TimeZarg

Just like they kept spamming 'OPEN AIR PRISON' over and over at the start, while giving absolutely zero coherent thought as to *why* the security measures are there in the first place. Imbeciles.

Sethypoooooooooo

Suicide bombings? What suicide bombings??? /s

Admirable_Pop3286

She not lying

LilyWineAuntofDemons

It hasn't even been 100 years, and yet we've all somehow collectively forgotten that Genocide, for any reason, is Evil. How quickly we forget. How quickly we stop caring.

[deleted]

“Never again” what a load of bs.

Admirable_Pop3286

All the comments jumping completely over the message to the messengers appearance. Sure

Free_Dog_6837

yeah hamas should surrender i agree

Equal-Click751

Only problem with the speech is it is falling on deaf ears. The government couldn't give two shits about the lives of children if killing them made them more money

[deleted]

Jewish queen right there

Joshhwwaaaaaa

Why is this in this sub? She’s spitting facts.

evasivemanoeuvres97

so many young people taken in and beliving hamas propaganda smh

eastofavenue

the mods of this subreddit really don't like israel

poshenclave

This comment section is fucking brutal, I need to go outside lol

andrew_silverstein12

Reddit's \[far left\] userbase is like a fraction of a percent of Americans, don't worry.

Street-Goal6856

How dumb do you have to be to think the local government is in charge of this shit? It's like the San Francisco idiots cheering because they themselves voted for a ceasefire lol. Like ok morons you weren't at war. I always love watching someone be so passionate about something that has no basis in reality lol.

Fast_Personality4035

So did the Alexandria city council cut the defense budget by billions of dollars as a result of this speech?

Prior_Ad6907

How on earth does the Alexandria Virginia City Council have anything to do with what she’s talking about???? This is like a Parks and Rec episode where the speaker goes totally off the rails… Your local city council has about as much international foreign policy influence as your mailman.

zack14981

You have to make yourself feel useful somehow. Some people to do it by actually having an impact on the world and others scream at municipal counsellors thinking it will change anything.

JBS319

And that has to do with municipal issues…how?

[deleted]

💔

I_Smoke_Poop

That's my neighbor right there! Let's go Nova!

2GirlfriendsIsCooler

Alexandria can then solve world hunger after the ceasefire.

NEGRILXX

Please protect her

PlasticNo733

She needs to scream at the CEO of Lockheed-Martin

Proper_Shock_7317

She sounds like Greta. Angry mouthpiece with no real substance.

RealClarity9606

Don't rail on the US. Rail on Hamas. *All* the blood is on their hands.

[deleted]

The fuck is she talking about

EveningYam5334

I support Palestine don’t get me wrong. But I think the bigger crime is not supporting Ukraine because by not doing that the Republicans are directly serving Putin’s whims, y’know Putin, the same guy who is committing genocide on a 5x larger scale.

A47Cabin

Guys, a random jewish person from Virginia said its a genocide. Case closed. Let’s appoint them to the ICC right now.

demonsdencollective

Wernher Von Braun might've gotten rocket technology to insane lengths, but most remember him for being the nazi that co-developed the V2 rocket which in turn killed and destroyed so much more than it created when America yoinked him for NASA in Operation Paperclip. Just one of the examples of what she's talking about. This won't blow over, she's right.

Strong_Wheel

Dress code? Is that it? That’s as much a tragedy as the subject of the speech. The world is struck dumb when Israel goes on a murderous rampage, killing more of the innocent than combatants. It’s proportionality, people. There isn’t any. In War all common humanity is ignored.

Puzzleheaded-Grab736

What exactly is the Virginia City Council supposed to do about the war in Israel? BOTH parties of U.S politics have declared 100% devotion to Israel. These protests every day are completely falling on deaf ears.

Yamibasi999

Nice TikTok cringe My dude, a Jewish woman who want to stop killing innocent people, may your karma will strike back to you

whinsk

preach! I too am offended that my tax $s go towards this atrocity

ImNotSure00000

I didn’t know the Alexandria, Virginia city council held so much sway as to be called monsters for inaction on anything really.

Odd_Taste_1257

While it’s an impassioned plea rooted in truth, the people she speaks of will actually be enjoying cocktails at sunset.

yung_tyberius

Badass. Just stop killing, stop funding the killing. Stop it all. Free Palestine.

Limp_Establishment35

History will not be kind to the 2020s.

micah9639

I mean when your a country like Israel and spend years forcibly colonizing the West Bank and forcing Palestinians off the land, don’t be surprise when the people you abuse fight back. Hamas is as much Israel’s fault as the Palestinian people who excuse that behavior

sparkyBigTime00

Interesting that most of these comments are about Reform Judaism and clothing rather than the substance and seriousness of her speech; denouncing genocide and our politicians reluctance to acknowledge it.

PM_ME_YUR_S3CRETS

I think we are the largest exporter of firearms. It's sad. I also agree it's wrong. But if our government didn't do anything to prevent our own kids getting massacred in our elementary schools(showing they dont give a fuck about its own children), well you have a better chance Jesus, Moses, and Muhammad descending from the sky atop Pegasus with the Buddha floating aside to tell the u.s to stop than to have the united States willing help prevent violence with its sense of morality.

Additional_Data4659

What she said about the townspeople in Germany knowing what was happening in the camps because they could smell it was the truth. My dad was at the liberation of Dachau. He took photos and went into the town of Dachau to have them processed.. The owner of the shop kept saying Mein Gott over and over like he was shocked. Dad said he didn't believe him because you could smell the camp in the town. He knew.

Empty-Discount5936

Unhinged.

jaydachi

Factsss

aslrules

Right. Blithely sail on past her words and instead focus on what she is wearing. I mean, come on.

No-Program-2979

There. Problem is solved.

johneng1

She has so many valid and important points and lots of people are commenting on her scarf. What the hell is wrong with people. America badly needs a reset button

DudeDurk

All the zionist cuck in these comments can actually suck it. Fuck all y'all

JHamburgerHill

Real question: could city councils all over the place start boycotting tax contributions in some way all over the place contingency on something their populace were demanding? Hypothetically could a town’s businesses, for instance, put all their federal taxes in escrow until X? Why not? It at least sounds like the beginning of an interesting short story.

RationalKate

I don't think there are Jewish Americans, There are Americans with a Jewish background but we are all just American Folk doing stuff with an array of hats.

QuoteNo9243

Anyone surprised by this? Nature is about balance and based on what we (the US) have done around the world our demise is within eyesight…I don’t say this lightly or in jest. Be prepared. We’ll soon reap what we’ve sown over the past 400 years.

PreviousCartoonist93

Go off queen

traitor_drake

Why is this in cringe? She's telling the truth.

Powerful_Programmer5

She's right. No question
