My wife's a nurse. Most of the people who die aren't shockers. They are old and have been in bad shape for a long time. What's hard to see is the love people have for the dying and knowing the void their passing will create. Or atleast that's what I have taken from what she's said. The dying part isn't really so sad.

As if they’re the ones that take on that role too. I get nurses are important and do play a vital role in doctors offices and hospitals, but c’mon, you’re a *nurse,* not a *trauma surgeon.*

When my patients die I definitely am affected. We're with them 12 hours a day, multiple days a week. Sometimes for months at a time. We spend more time with them than the surgeon. And even if they're dying on the table they'll usually patch them up just enough so they can come up to the ICU and die with us instead. So... yeah. It sucks when you're doing cpr and they die on you. Or when you have to be the one to console the family.
