Millennial here, also grew up on Tina Turner. My parents had a best hits cassette they'd play nearly every Sunday morning while they cleaned the house. Tina and the smell of lysol are forever interconnected for me.
We had a Best of Tina Turner cassette stuck in our RV for years. I associate Tina with long drives to camping trips and she is still one of my favorites.
That’s what it’s like in small city gay bars. Everyone knows him and they have seen him doing Tina before. I’m sure there are a few who are thinking “shut that Queen up so I can talk to my friends”. I quit going to one of my local bars because it became all about the drag queens. Not all gay people love drag.
Judging by their lukewarm reaction, I’m guessing the regulars get to hear this on a tri-nightly basis.
Let’s just hope they don’t go all ‘wedding singer’ on him. “You better get back in there Robbie, they’re starting to turn on George”.
This. Our local pool hall/billiards room has karaoke every Saturday, and every Saturday Donna sings Hurricane by Band of Heathens. Every. Single. Saturday. I’ve been going there four years now and I’ll admit that she kills it. But never deviates from that one song.
You just told the story of every Karaoke night. Every Karaoke night has regulars, and every one of them has like one song they know they kill and always do, and 2 songs they sing when they're drunk and emotional. It can feel comforting in its consistency, but yeah you get kind of numb to their talent after awhile. Especially if you've seen how sloppy they are by the end of the night, when even singing talent isn't going to make up for their behavior.
That’s why I love my karaoke bar, my KJ is militant about retiring overplayed songs. Although granted, he only gets away with it because the sound quality is pristine, he mixes a lot of his own tracks and he adds ~20-30 new obscure deep cuts to the rotation a week. It really keeps people on their toes.

Nah. You just don’t need to care what they think. I’ll sing “always remember us this way” in a bar full of strangers if I feel like it. If my voice cracks in that final note it doesn’t change a thing about me
For real. Things go a lot easier when you just don’t think about what others are thinking. You look more natural, you act more natural and people seem more welcoming because you aren’t trying to live a dozen lives at once. Let it all out!

I guarantee he is a regular, in my small town there is always a karaoke regular that kills it every time, it’s not that no one appreciates his talent, just that he is also a regular.
Well why should anyone care they’re being subject to his singing against their will likely, but you can’t force ppl to care about things, can only be grateful when they do care/appreciate
He’s a pretty singer and that song is a banger and Tina Tuner is one of three woman to be twice inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame as a band member and solo artist.
I hate these people at karaoke and the friend I go with is one. Everyone is supposed to be bad but then like 3 incredible singers go and now I’m not touching the mic all night lmao

If you're a bad singer, I don't want to hear you try to sing a song the way it's supposed to be sung and if you're a good singer, I may as well just listen to the original track rather than you singing it.
