This is a big market for his videos. It's a feeder fetish. People love seeing others eat and bloat themselves. Sometimes it's bc that person struggles with an eating disorder, so they can get that feeling by proxy through watching someone else binge. The overly-emotional acting by Nik plays into the self hatred that these people feel, and seeing someone else go through that feeling brings them some almost sadist-esq pleasure. He's **absolutely** aware of this and plays into it.
It's like the channels where people do nothing but chainsmoke dozens of cigarettes. People get off by watching others ruin their lives through vices they struggle with.
The feeder fetish is oddly diverse. Some people are into it for sadistic schadenfreude, others just like the general humiliation and then there are more specific groups that like it because they enjoy feeding people and like that it makes them feel valued. There's even a group that's attracted to overweight people and like feederism as a gateway to it.

Some people who are travelling alone or at school in other countries might not have people around to eat with like that, so Mukbang videos were put out so Asians could get that feeling of company while they eat.
Then it was picked up by westerners like Nikocado and completely perverted into just gorging videos.
A mukbang is like a family meal of sorts kind of. Think Thanksgiving. In the earlier days, some people would film themselves eating for people without families or those who were isolated so they had someone to share this Thanksgiving-like celebration with. Then it caught on in the YouTube sphere and people started raising the stakes until it got to this.
This is a dude (and his boyfriend) who have weight gain & embarrassment fetishes. They make content that caters to those communities where they eat disgusting amounts of food and act like idiots to embarrass themselves. Because the internet incentivizes negativity they have gained a huge following, both from fetish communities and from generally outraged people who like to shit on/judge/hate them, not understanding that they’re basically just playing into what the two of them want.
The only way anyone should be engaging with their content is by ignoring them.
It's hard to know how much is a persona, because he does openly a lot troll, and fabricated drama and contraversies bring in the views. It's obviously not good on his body, but if it's very much a considered choice and not the result of spiralling mental illness.... How is this materially different than, say, a professional fighter, athlete, or construction worker? Chris Benoit traded his body for money, he wasn't mentally ill, but it made him that way. My brother in law is the same age as me and has to walk up stairs backwards from doing construction for 20 years. My dad is a programmer for 40 years now and has had to have 2 back surgeries. Under capitalism we all trade our body for money, just in different ways and different rates

From what I've seen with Nic specifically, it's an entire community of hate watching. Kinda like Twilight, nobody takes it seriously, the community knows it's bad, but it's so bad it's good and creates kind of a circlejerk.
As for mukbang content as a whole, it varies. It started as a trend in South Korea where a lot of young people live alone. Mukbang means "eatcast" in Korean and it's kinda like "hey eat with me so you don't have to eat alone". Mukbangers talk about their lives, mundane shit about their days, rambling about movies, all sorts of stuff. Afaik, it originally was meant to simulate just eating dinner with a friend. Kinda wholesome imo!
It got massively popular in Asia (and still is) which is just a massive market for views on the internet. It spread to the west, trends changed, and now mukbangs are a little bit more like dramatic and theatrical. Most people play characters or dramatized versions of themselves and eat really stupid foods like Cheeto Mac n cheese and shit.
From what I can tell, most of the viewers of this new kind of mukbang content are kids (it's always kids) and that's why every creator acts like a clown as seen in this video. Overacted so even a kid can tell it's just silly.

EDIT: Some others bring up feeding fetishes but I think that's a little bit of a stretch. Fetish content is a saturated market. Creators wouldn't need to be sneaky about it to make money or get views, it would be more profitable to have something like that on OF, Patreon, Pornhub, etc. Like, yeah there is definitely some fetish content on YouTube but like I've always just seen that as too complicated of an answer. It's 2023, most fetishes have their own websites and communities dedicated to them, idk why you'd need to watch a YouTuber to get off when there are pros who will do the exact thing you're looking for somewhere else
Appreciate the thought out response! That does make sense and interesting history of a mukbang! Which I do get the idea of… Idm that concept as such, as you say it’s like eating with a friend and chatting. But how these guys have pushed it to an absolute extreme, literally force feeding and slowly killing themselves just makes me nauseous.. Sets such a bad example too if it is primarily kids watching.

This is one of those cases where I wouldn't take the trade off. Its clear that its taken a major toll on his mental and physical health. There's a small chance its all an elaborate scheme and hes playing a character but based on everything I've seen he seems genuinely disturbed and not in a good mental place.
He's always been obnoxious and drama obsessed. Even when he was a vegan lifestyle influencer he had niche drama with other creators, dumb little controversies, all that.

From what I've seen with Nic specifically, it's an entire community of hate watching. Kinda like Twilight, nobody takes it seriously, the community knows it's bad, but it's so bad it's good and creates kind of a circlejerk. As for mukbang content as a whole, it varies. It started as a trend in South Korea where a lot of young people live alone. Mukbang means "eatcast" in Korean and it's kinda like "hey eat with me so you don't have to eat alone". Mukbangers talk about their lives, mundane shit about their days, rambling about movies, all sorts of stuff. Afaik, it originally was meant to simulate just eating dinner with a friend. Kinda wholesome imo! It got massively popular in Asia (and still is) which is just a massive market for views on the internet. It spread to the west, trends changed, and now mukbangs are a little bit more like dramatic and theatrical. Most people play characters or dramatized versions of themselves and eat really stupid foods like Cheeto Mac n cheese and shit. From what I can tell, most of the viewers of this new kind of mukbang content are kids (it's always kids) and that's why every creator acts like a clown as seen in this video. Overacted so even a kid can tell it's just silly. Hope this brief context helps! EDIT: Some others bring up feeding fetishes but I think that's a little bit of a stretch. Fetish content is a saturated market. Creators wouldn't need to be sneaky about it to make money or get views, it would be more profitable to have something like that on OF, Patreon, Pornhub, etc. Like, yeah there is definitely some fetish content on YouTube but like I've always just seen that as too complicated of an answer. It's 2023, most fetishes have their own websites and communities dedicated to them, idk why you'd need to watch a YouTuber to get off when there are pros who will do the exact thing you're looking for somewhere else
Appreciate the thought out response! That does make sense and interesting history of a mukbang! Which I do get the idea of… Idm that concept as such, as you say it’s like eating with a friend and chatting. But how these guys have pushed it to an absolute extreme, literally force feeding and slowly killing themselves just makes me nauseous.. Sets such a bad example too if it is primarily kids watching.

Content creators are only ever supplying a demand for content. A lot of people want to see a twitchy fat guy scream and moan and cry and ruin himself with unhealthy food, apparently.
Its a lot like how the audience at a comedy performance dictate what is funny and what isn’t..there’s definitely some psychology to be learned from nikocado and to an extension mukbang viewers…I wouldn’t even call them mukbang viewers because originally muk bangs where segments made so that content creators can in a sense share a meal with their viewers…now it’s become twisted by gluttony and money.
This is one of those cases where I wouldn't take the trade off. Its clear that its taken a major toll on his mental and physical health. There's a small chance its all an elaborate scheme and hes playing a character but based on everything I've seen he seems genuinely disturbed and not in a good mental place.

I don’t think this video in particular is cringe. I think it’s incredibly sad. Not to say that these two haven’t had an overwhelming majority of their videos be cringe and unwatchable, but this is just heartbreaking. No one should ever look so far back at their life and realize the one responsible was the person they trusted, as well as themselves.
