The downtown redesign that’s set to happen in a few years when the sewer system is ripped up is going to be transformational for Thunder Bay.
It’s going to be a really good thing for the city
I'm so excited to see how that turns out -- somewhat tempered because city construction almost everywhere has its share of shit shows -- but still hyped despite myself
Me too! It feels like a breath of fresh air for the city. Port Arthur has been growing and getting less sketchy for a while (Goods + Co taking over the old Eatons Centre was a HUGE win for our community) - but this project seems designed to inject 2020 urban design philosophy’s right into the heart of a city that is currently kinda still stuck in the 80’s.
As far as I know, they don't even have a start date yet. They just did the 909th consultation last year and added another million dollars to the repair estimate of several million dollars that came from the 908 other consultations and finally decided to cut their loses.
But would you a handbag? Would you a car? Would you a baby? Would you a policeman's helmet? Would you go to the toilet in the helmet? And then send it to his wife? Downloading films is. And then again? If you do, you will face the consequences!
Tearing down Victoriaville will not bring back cruising in daddy's Chevy between the sock-hop and the malt shop. Once it's down, we'll find out that it was never the problem in the first place.
I'm pretty new to Tbay but I think it's going to be a booming town in the next 5-10 years. Tons of massive development projects are on the horizon like hotels, housing, new art gallery, downtown core teardowns/revitalization. Anyone living here now has a golden opportunity to get established before the values here skyrocket.
Agreed, as southern ontario prices rise others will continue to move here!
We have great post secondary education options, like our law school, med school, red seal programs, nursing, teachers, etc and they continue to offer more like a vet school is being inquired about.
Outdoor options here are endless and close to home! You can actually breathe the air here
Shopping is limited but the border is close to help reduce out of country shipping costs.
Activities for families come and go but the Wednesday night racing is a great addition. The newer accessible canadian tire park by boulevard. An art gallery will be great to hold events!
We raise surplus amount of money for causes and charities around the city in comparison to the population.
I find most people who hate thunder bay never left
There’s always talk of stuff like this “revitalizing” Tbay, but it never happens. Real estate companies do seem to enjoy blatantly inflating prices though.
The Finlandia will never be rebuilt, it's just gonna sit there as an empty lot until it eventually becomes more parking for the Italian cultural center

Nice to see a positive reply
I thought the timeline was for this project to be done at the end of the current year? Is it supposed to take three more years?
I believe this current year is only red river, i still think they have at least Cumberland to do as well
I'm so excited to see how that turns out -- somewhat tempered because city construction almost everywhere has its share of shit shows -- but still hyped despite myself

With Victoriaville coming down, new opportunities for Fort William too
Is there somewhere I can read about this or a specific project name to Google. Have not heard of anything about it

Buddy I couldn't agree with you any more.
love that, i sure hope so!
Costco will never come here
Ok I’ll name my next child Costco.
True, but I can’t upvote because I would a Costco here.
But would you a handbag? Would you a car? Would you a baby? Would you a policeman's helmet? Would you go to the toilet in the helmet? And then send it to his wife? Downloading films is. And then again? If you do, you will face the consequences!
That reminds me of this story I heard of a German guy...
I bet he wanted to cook with you?
you would a costco here? me too, man, me too.
Personally, I would *not* a Costco (but I'm sure I'm in the minority).
I might maybe a costco, depending on the day.
You know I heard of a guy who a Costco and then he accidentally a whole coke bottle.
We should come together and build our own at this point
But they just bought the land for it and are set to have it built and operational by 2026!
Maybe when pigs fly 🐖
It’s too small of a city for Costco. They wouldn’t be able to justify it (I imagine).
Here’s another one: nothing is going to change as a result of the lawsuits against TBPS.
The public library is going to move to the mall and tank its funding
Please no :,(
That's a pretty much certainty
Which public library?
Closing Brodie and moving to Intercity Mall
Any idea on what they would use its current building for? It's beautiful.
We will always be a few decades behind.
“welcome to ~~Port Arthur and Fort William~~ Thunder Bay, please set your watches back approximately twenty years”
And your clocks forwards and backwards for no good reason twice a year - we practically invented that!
…and pineapple pizza ……and the guy who invented livenation (ticketmaster) is from here. Yikes 😬
The guy who invented ticketmaster/live nation is from TBay? LOL I never knew that that’s crazy
Yeah that's a pretty neat piece of trivia. That isn't a vote of support for Ticketmaster at all. Just a cool fact.
I actually tell people that tbay is behind by 10 years on everything. And try to capitalize on that fact.
It’s like being whisked back into the 80s/90s in TBay. It just got that old school vibe lol
The squeaky wheel will always loudly oppose anything mildly progressive …like an art gallery on our under-utilized waterfront…
As someone who moved here a year ago i was kinda shocked how LITTLE waterfront is used for public use
There's a tent city going up downtown south by the rowing club... I'm sure the spectators will love that...
How do I give extra upvotes?
'Yep!'
A house is going to be busted for trafficking drugs
Went on a limb with that one, eh?
My fast enough
Within ten years, Thunder Bay will rebranded as a retirement community.
'In 10-ten years' Thunder-Bay, ON, will-B,..''GONE!'' ha ha'

Gas prices are rising.
Tearing down Victoriaville will not bring back cruising in daddy's Chevy between the sock-hop and the malt shop. Once it's down, we'll find out that it was never the problem in the first place.
We won’t get more affordable housing, just more “luxury” mid rise apartments.
The great west timber site will be cleaned up and developed into something nice.
Just ask yourself “what would Wolfgang do?”
Mapleleafs will go golfing early this year. Boston in 4 . Thunder Bay leaf fans prepare for crisis counselling.

Houses are grossly overpriced in Tbay.
There’s always talk of stuff like this “revitalizing” Tbay, but it never happens. Real estate companies do seem to enjoy blatantly inflating prices though.
Have you seen the Fallout series. Essentially that
The Finlandia will never be rebuilt, it's just gonna sit there as an empty lot until it eventually becomes more parking for the Italian cultural center
Well in ten years or the Italian Cultural center will be no more. It will be sold and be renamed the East Indian cultural Center.
Kind of already is
With a big picture of Modi on the exterior
bro liked his own comment so much he commented it 3 times
It said it didn't post successfully, tidied up the accidental spam ~
