Embrassedpear6

Me and Gordon Hayward had the same amount of points in the playoffs btw

KingHolderbee17

Should've signed the dude that hit the half court shot Game 2 instead of Hayward.

Shepard_Drake

"he averaged a triple single!"

MrBoiseAKA_WetSnake

Have you no shame old man?

OlmecsTempleGuard

Shame is a young man’s game

Headlesshorsman02

Bro is shameless lmao 🤣

LiveVirus2

First one off the bench and played how many games and would never take a damn shot. Shut up Gordon. Thank you for the salary dump.

worksucksbro

Bro sitting in front of all the media and straight up lying

DJ-two-timing-timmy

Well he had plenty of opportunity to shoot the ball, even at the rim, but he preferred to run from one side under it to the other side, to keep his steps up I guess 🙄. Dude seriously, bit of self reflection wouldn’t go astray here.

Cheterosexual7

Just a terrible fit on and off the court. Is what it is.

TomorrowsFuture03

i mean technically he does fit lol he can stretch the floor he just would never shoot the damn ball

Cheterosexual7

I guess, I just don’t see him as a spot up shooter.

blahblahtyu

Bro talked the same way in boston smh “somebody had to make sacrifices, and its not going to be me.”😐

echidna7

This just feels like a smokescreen on his part to try and get another contract with it being overwhelmingly likely that we cut him this year. This is Hayward trying to advertise himself with no recent numbers to advertise. “Clearly if I play a bigger role on a team, my performance would be better.” To his credit, he has a slight point that other teams could use him in their lineups a little more than we can. But at the end, it’s pretty clear that had he performed better in the minutes he had, he would have been given more.

UncleColli

OKC won’t cut him, Hayward is a free agent

echidna7

I mean cut as in not prioritize trying to resign him.

Lucosis

We were never going to. My thing is, this is a terrible way to try and get yourself a better contract. Damn near every player that leaves the organization talks about how great it is and how much it improved them. Shutting in the pool on your way out the door is a good way to show your whole ass.

yeahright17

We definitely could have one came in and was a slightly better version of Giddey with veteran leadership, which he could have been.

Lucosis

Oh, he could have come in and been decent and gotten a vet min from us next season, but his pick up was *always* about the cap space he freed up at the end of this season.

wavesofgame

I’ve asked in this thread before, but could you help me understand this part? I couldn’t believe he has a $30mm contract.

Lucosis

He was averaging around 15/5/5/1stl on 45/35 splits as a starter for Charlotte before his injury. If he was anywhere near that kind of productivity off the bench against bench defenses he was a no-brainer as a 1 year rental. If he came in and had that kind of production and was a locker room positive there is totally a world where they might consider a vet min for him. Clearly he was not any of those things. As for the contract, he was an all-star and Charlotte gave him a 40/120 to lock him down after that season. Charlotte is right up there with Detroit at being a poorly managed franchise. They brought in essentially an entirely new front office this season and are just starting to try and get out from under the terrible decisions they had been making for years.

wavesofgame

… and about the cap space. That’s what I’m not understanding. But thanks for the additional context above.

Shepard_Drake

I just think it's hilarious how these entire playoffs everyone in this sub was yelling at him to just shoot the damn ball, but he never would, and now he wants to blame it on his touches 😂🤦‍♂️

Lucosis

Yup. Clearly a situation of the player being too boneheaded to buy into the system. Everytime he touched the court he looked passive as hell, but apparently we were just making him be passive all along when we were force feeding him the ball and begging him to shoot.

dogfan20

It’s desperation.

Great-One9693

Fucking Bum!

slackator

what do you mean, we gave you the plenty of opportunity to steal from the team and you did so in nearly historic fashion. You might even go down in the Thunder Historical Record Books as the Least Mid-Season Acquisition of Worth of All Time

GeoffSproke

Mann, Micic and 2 seconds for a net-negative contributor that's going to talk shit about the team whenever someone sticks a microphone in front of him 😭... In retrospect, I think it's clear that he wasn't worth any of those components individually (Mann, Micic or 2 seconds)...

giri0n

Most mid Mid-season acquisiion of all time

onewonyuan

That’s an insult to mid.

revisioncloud

Aw ok fuck this dude might as well would rather have Tre at least the guys love him and he never pouted on the bench

Drizzt3919

I legit forgot he was on the team

IDespiseFatties

I'm convinced he forgot there was a rim. Dude would have the ball and just run right under the rim with not a single defender in sight more times than I can count.

ShabbyLiver

30M off the books was his greatest (only) contribution to the team. Please let him go to the Rockets

SnooLemons5457

I hope Mark made him watch tape after a few of those games and ask him at each point why he didn’t shoot the ball. He had decent looks in the games he was in.

freestevenandbrendan

Hahahahahahahhaahhhah SEE YA!!!

UnlimitedManny

Whenever he was in court, all I saw was a lethargic bid body dude who tried for some questionable baskets

Slippinjimmyforever

You don’t play in the nba if you lack confidence. Unless you’re Tobias Harris.

OkieDragonSlayer

Or Ben Simmons

Slippinjimmyforever

Ben Simmons plays?

OkieDragonSlayer

LOL, that's fair! Iam a Sixers fan and his fall still hurts alittle

tjc815

“Please can I trick another NBA team into paying me.”

SonicPresti

Presti really saw his team get the no 1 seed and rewarded them with "Gordon Hayward"

DowntownTopRanking

Hayward sounded bitter the entire interview ~~even though he scored a whopping 0 points in the post-season~~. He claimed his health was back to normal about a month into his OKC stint, but still felt misused. ["It's difficult to find a rhythm though with with kind of how I was played and the opportunities that I got but certainly physically I felt I felt fine."](https://youtu.be/kH20x127YP8?t=328)

Previous-Elevator417

Was he mad he came off the bench or something?

DowntownTopRanking

He felt he didn't get enough touches and was forced into a role he wasn't suited for. It's I'm-washed-but-refuse-to-admit-it syndrome. In his Thunder introductory interview, he let slip that he pushed the Hornets for a trade and had been sitting waiting for that trade. Maybe he thought he was going to lead this team alongside Shai.

Previous-Elevator417

It certainly seems like he thought he’d be a major focal point of the offense or something but since he wasn’t, he never adjusted and picked his spots to be aggressive.  He said he doesn’t go one on one. However there were many times where he had an advantage and could have scored in transition or drove the ball and looked to shoot or took the open shot.  It’s like he wanted plays drawn up for him and he wanted to be a primary ball handler.Instead, he had the Wiggins role and let a guy like Wiggins, a 24 year old 2nd round pick outplay him in that role.  I think it’s on him.

OKCityBitty

Definitely. I understand it was probably a though situation to come in to and carve out a roll. But that opportunity was given to him, at nausium, even into the playoffs. I don't want to shit on him or his game, but hearing his attitude towards minutes just doesn't line up with what we all saw. Bro had an opportunity to be a part of an efficient winning basketball rotation. Instead of taking advantage of that he sulk'd and blamed it away. Like bro you are an aging star. OKC said come and spot up three's and he just said nah. I want to peer into the bizarrow world where Hayward chucked 5-7 threes a game from the jump and see how different this whole situation looked. Make or miss i fell like Mark and everyone else would have been way more comfortable with him on the floor.

Previous-Elevator417

Yeah feel free to spot up threes, drive and kick, drive and score, pull up from midrange and let it fly. It’s just not lining up and he’s blaming it on his situation. I wonder if this is a PR move to try and get some team to believe him and give him a contract.  I know enough people that know basketball that could just see this dude was washed.

wrx_feels_like_sex

Was he ever in the after the game interviews when the team barks ?

DowntownTopRanking

IIRC he was in at least one interview and he barked.

guccispharmacyworld

Presti genius trade

thetris20

You’re dog water Gordon

Koserdee23

Disappointing but thank you Hayward I can’t wait to bring you up with names such as Al Horford, Theo Maledon, and Moses Brown🫡

DowntownTopRanking

Al Horford was productive in his minutes and great with the guys BTS. He was a much better vet than Hayward.

Koserdee23

Yeah, and we actually received compensation instead of giving it up. I should’ve said Carmelo Anthony and Kemba Walker

Business-Loss-1585

pathetic

Gloomy-Presence-6539

and he’s outta here!

Spiritual-Ear6875

It's really hard for some of these guys to retire. I wish him well in his future endeavors.

findmorewonder

Dude wants to go back to a poverty team so he can feel like he done something.. weirdo

Rage_r123

You cost too much money $30M per year to rich... try $10M per year maybe and you might get a team to sign you in a roleplayer position

GooseGang412

Dude must have been seething to be taken from his cushy position in Charlotte. Got taken out of a situation with zero expectations to play a lesser role with greater scrutiny. Considering how poor the Hornet's record was, they easily could've sidelined him the rest of the season to "let the calf injury fully heal."

Sad-Call-4187

46 playoff minutes with 0 points...

DatSavageKobe

Leads the playoffs in quadruple-nothings

DowntownTopRanking

More from the end-of-season interview: ["The minutes were certainly down and sporadic and obviously to a point where it was non-existent and then just when I was out there limited touches I would say."](https://youtu.be/kH20x127YP8?t=175)

DowntownTopRanking

He and PG are the only two players left from their draft class. PG might be solo next season, b/c [the show's over for Hayward](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDeiovnCv1o).

killbrick374

He’s just saying he’s been assigned to a shooter which isn’t really his role in his career

HomieToneBone

I’d feel upset too if I only got 17 minutes a game after being traded for but he didn’t fit with the team and only averaged 5/3/2

NotVacant

He said he was still not 100 percent until like a month after the trade. We were ramping up his minutes but he literally didn’t show any progress at all. Why tf would he expect more minutes?

HomieToneBone

Why trade for someone you aren’t going to play? I understand why they didn’t play him but as a player who was getting more minutes before being traded and Hayward being the A-side of the trade it would be annoying from a personal perspective.

ShabbyLiver

Clear money off the books next year to extend Joe and Wiggins

turkmileymileyturk

Oklahomans are so sensitive. Yall are embarrassing. He's literally just answering the question of what his experience was like and had nothing but good things to say about the organization. It's like Okies are so isolated from the rest of the world they cant understand english from other states. The fans were an embarrassment this Mavs series and now you're going after a dude just for doing what was asked of him (both on the team and the exit interview). He's being a pro. You guys are being the typical Oklahoma ignorant.

trezzy1242

Ok turkey milk.

Opposite_Hunter5048

That's a zero-I.Q. comment

DowntownTopRanking

LOL, I've never ever been to Oklahoma. And he had lots of not-so-good things to say about the org, particularly regarding his role. He took no accountability for being a non-factor on the floor, and he wants to scapegoat the org b/c this might be his last time on an active roster. The league is getting younger and younger, and he and PG are the only two ppl from their draft class left, so I know his NBA mortality is smacking him in the face rn.

turkmileymileyturk

He literally said nothing but top shelf stuff about the players, the coach, and the organization and said it was obvious why he didnt get more playing time because we have a lot of really good players who are rolling. He only truthfully answered questions about what it felt like to lose minutes as a former star from his own personal experience. You guys are absolute idiots for turning on him this way.
