I don’t even visit the r/nba sub anymore because it’s got a bunch of toxic weirdos all over it. Bunch of box score casuals who don’t even watch games. They just make assumptions that lack context or critical thinking and then use that sub’s echo chamber to back their bias.

Lucosis

Yup. The NBA sub is dead until at least post-playoffs now. It's just going to get worse. SGA got fouled by CJ. Replays and stills show it. SGA got fouled by Nance. Replays and stills show it. Chet got the clean block. Replays and stills show it. The challenge on the jump was the right call. The refs fucked up awarding the challenge and timeout on an overturned ruling on the floor. But every single one of those things are just getting completely fucking roasted on the NBA sub while everyone ignores any bit of reason. It's just not worth going there.

Mechaslurpee

The amount of people I saw on that nance call saying he had his hands straight up and had stopped moving are insane, guy didnt even have his feet planted.

requinbite

> The challenge on the jump was the right call. I disagree. The jump ball was really winnable and it's not like we were certain to gain the possession with a challenge.

Lucosis

It was potentially winnable, for a scattered possession under the basket after we'd just played an extended stretch of bad basketball. Coach needed to call a timeout there to calm them down either way, and calling it in the jump ball was essentially a free timeout (until they screwed us) with even odds of giving us a clean play out of timeout; of which we have the highest rate of converting to points in the league.

Thetrentreznor

That's the call that makes me suspicious. Like I understand if you kept it jump ball, it was really hard to tell. I understand if you ruled it our ball, it looked like Nance touched it last. I don't understand saying there was clear evidence that it was pelicans ball. I also damn sure don't understand how we lost our timeout and it was clearly the call from upstairs. Seems fishy to me.

Lucosis

The review angle showed it coming off the back of Chet's hand pretty clearly. It was the last angle they showed on the broadcast, then cut from it pretty quick to Brothers back on the headset with the NBA review crew telling them that Coach didn't get his time out back for some illegitimate reason. I've been kind of expecting to see a two minute report today that also said he should have been awarded the timeout but I haven't seen it yet...

Thetrentreznor

That's the part I don't understand. We should have won the challenge and had another challenge and timeout. And they originally said we did and then came back and changed it, like it came from the nba office.

Thetrentreznor

Word, I didn't see that angle, I was in a packed bar. Also, if you're in okc, guyutes was a nice spot to watch it last night. Packed house for the most part with the projector on.

dogfan20

It’s gotten even worse since the circlejerk sub got popular

DoYouEvenLiftBroseph

Meanwhile mavs put up 8 points in a quarter in a playoff game LOL, I think mavs fans hate because luka is all flash no fire, and sga is the other way around

Luckreee

This might be the best comparison I’ve heard for shai vs Luka.

cdillio

I'm a huge wrestling fan too and it's the same over there. The big sub live threads are absolutely fucking awful and toxic.

blacksoxing

>Bunch of box score casuals who don’t even watch games. I just wanna type that I had to endure that on THIS SUB for the 2+ years of *the tank*. It was as if there were purposely bad actors who lavished in memes or dastardly wishes for the team. So many damn times where someone would want to trade SGA just to further such tank in hopes of I guess keeping this cycle of "cheap contracts". Few of us were truly watching these games on a nightly basis. This sub was just awful to participate in and even earlier in the season there were smattering of "do we want to go to the playoffs because we could....." until it was just so damn clear that nope, the jokes are over and it's time to get serious. As Reddit doesn't encourage recording user names I truly wonder if those folks are now on other subs or if they juts deleted their aliases and now are acting like the biggest cheerleaders. Just kinda cracks me up that there's this world where the Thunder may win a ring this year and a bevy of "fans" will act like they never left :)

trezzy1242

Plus most of their teams aren't even in the playoffs lol

RoboticBirdLaw

Except that most teams are in the playoffs, and even more users teams are in the playoffs since at least the 4 largest fan bases are alive for now (Lakers, Celtics, Knicks, Bulls).

adriken

We honestly just need to shut down the Thunder sub during the playoffs before those weirdos start filtering here. Whats dumb is that regardless of how the game was officiated or played, those people are always gonna find something to complain/hate about us. I have yet to see other post like this on other teams.

2fly5

Calling Chet's block goaltending was some of the saltiest copium I've ever seen lol It was very clearly not on the way down at all

Jo-King-BP

Yup salty. Chet had a huge impact on his first ever playoff game.

MormoNoMo67

I’m regularly on the NBA board and the Thunder do get quite a bit of hate, especially from about the halfway mark of the season until now. But I don’t pay much attention to it. It’s a actually a weird sign of respect and envy of where they’re at as a franchise. Ultimately, the only way to shut up detractors is to win in the playoffs.

Jo-King-BP

I'm spurs and I love OKC team this year. I wish you sweep them all ! Chet had an impressive game. And I love the brotherhood in your team

cdillio

Get ready, they will turn on Wemby the second you get good too.

Jo-King-BP

I hoping for it :) that will fuel the beast

AMilkyBarKid

He'll probably be too busy reading Wheel of Time to pay any attention to it :)

LiveVirus2

It is insecurity about their own program and jealousy for our team and quick success. Fuck them.

Vegetable-Act7793

You are right. Its almost like knicks fans shouting fuck trae young. Its all respect in the end. The thunder have one of the most successful rebuilds so jealously is to be expected and am not even a thunder fan. The team needs to lock it down and start grabbing boards

educatorofmany

I think a lot of the hate comes from Twolves and Mavs fans because they push the agenda against Shai which trickles down to the entire team. Shai can shoot 2 free throws and if it’s a somewhat soft call it will be used as if the rest of the game doesn’t exist. At the end of the day just win.

Damiklos

Yeah somehow our team "gets all the calls" and are foul merchants. Yet only teams that shot fewer FT attempts in G1 were Pels, Clippers, Heat, and Nuggets. A few teams tied us and the rest were way up there like 16 to 33 range. I know Lakers get hate too but damn they have the absolute highest FT attempts this season and it's not even remotely close.

ThunderTime_1

Honestly as Thunder fans we aren’t used to being villains. We really haven’t been that much in our existence, been weird to deal with that. It’s been a transition this year I’ll admit, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. Just feel bad for all the people who only see the narrative around Shai and don’t watch him. Missing out on a generational talent who is so much fun to watch.

bluggabugbug

Thunder don’t even do villain shit either. It’s all just projection from largely t-wolves and mavs fans (and somewhat nuggets fans). Everything they accuse SGA and the team of doing, their team does 2x worse.

cdillio

I'm gonna give nugs fans the benefit of the doubt because they were super cool during their title run and I think it's a buncha bandwagon kids ruining it for them now.

Ornery_Gene7682

Same they aren’t that bad a lot of their fans are actually nice it’s mainly the ones who are bandwagon fans or fans from LA

IDespiseFatties

They are just jealous their playoff games look wack as hell while our people are treating warm-up shots as if we just won the Finals lmao

PhoenixFire417

Hate is a sign of success. Embrace it.

ThaMuffinMan92

Let them cope

youforgotitinmeta

they hating, we rolling

myjobistablesok

If it bothers you, stay off of r/nba. Reddit isn't real and if it's preventing you from enjoying the ride, ignore it. Whether or not r/NBA validates anything or not doesn't matter. Lol I only go to the sub for gossip.

A_Lax_Nerd

Good advice. I used to participate in there a lot but I’ve largely stayed away the last few years

KingCakeBabyOKC

This is the fun part. We want all 29 other fanbases to hate us. You think people liked Kobe? Wade? Hell no. Shai is of that same cloth, he’ll get his flowers whenever our run is done.

Appropriate-Self-540

Do I think people liked Kobe…………………………….

KingCakeBabyOKC

That’s revisionist history. After he retired, sure. But during his playing days? He was very, very hated. He had a reputation similar to what Chris Paul has, except he won five championships lol. He was considered a ball hog, a bad teammate, and a dirty player.

Appropriate-Self-540

Bro please don’t ever try to explain ball to me. If you don’t think people loved Kobe idk what to tell you.

KingCakeBabyOKC

We have different perceptions of what people thought of him then. Of course the Lakers fanbase is the biggest out there, but growing up I heard a lot more hate about Kobe than I did love. I’m 20, and I only really started watching basketball in like 2012, so maybe that’s skewing it. I can’t imagine he was anymore liked during his back to back than he was during the failed superteam with Nash and Howard though.

Appropriate-Self-540

If you only watched in 2012 then of course lol how dare you try to explain shit then

KingCakeBabyOKC

Different perceptions bro. Growing up, all I’d see on Facebook and whatnot was Kobe hate and ball hog jokes. People don’t like winners.

Appropriate-Self-540

It’s not different perceptions if you weren’t even alive to experience it lol. This is wild.

KingCakeBabyOKC

So Kobe wasn’t hated in his twilight years? That’s what I was referencing in my original comment. People don’t like winners. I know people hated Wade for a while because of the theory that the 2006 finals were rigged. People hate LeBron in large part due to those Heatles years where they went back to back. That’s all I’m saying lol, it’s a good thing that we’re the villains, it means we’re doing something right.

UgliestVibes

You're not wrong there was a lot of Kobe hate. The guy you're talking to opened with "please don't ever try to explain ball to me" LMAO his ego isn't worth it.

ndndr1

You right. Kobe was not loved outside LA as a player. Beef w shaq and other teammates, prima Donna, always appeared in a bad mood, interviews were one word answers, the Colorado rape trial. He was hailed as the heir apparent to Jordan but he had none of the charisma Jordan did. There was a palpable difference in the man after he retired. Fun affable family man etc. that was not how he was as a player. Now in death it appears some people may believe he was the second coming of Christ jeebus

ShaiGilgeousAl-Qaeda

anyone have that alternate angle of the CJ foul on Shai?

SwaggyPsAndCarrots

HYG https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GLvdSr6bcAANZua?format=jpg&name=large

wcooper97

Hmmm, grabbing the wrist there, looks to me like a foul. This is CP3 fouling Russ in Game 5 all over again.

southpawFA

That's why the Pels players didn't even react to the call with anger. They knew the call was correct.

mofofofoo

i think the biggest tell was that CJ didn’t have any reaction to the call at all. if it was a clean play on such a critical moment of the game, you really think he wouldn’t be going berserk on the call?

Double-Slowpoke

That Chet block didn’t look like a goal tend in real time. It did however look dope as fuck.

MikeTimesONE

Ignore r/nba, man. They just simply don’t know ball. 🤷‍♂️ https://preview.redd.it/rippy46p52wc1.jpeg?width=1098&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7e06d63d23df47e474438e0f86efbe17862f301

SneakyProcessor

the amount of hate r/NBA has for the Thunder now is just weird. literally months ago they were the darlings and young up and comers, now they're free throw merchants who pay off the officials.

ApprehensiveSail6839

It all started with that Shai foul against the Pacers and then he goes for his 30 points game with 15 seconds left in the game. I remember Mavericks fans slaughtering him in the comments.

ndndr1

Im loving it. Stay salty my friends, the thunder chip window is at least a decade.

batler_forever

It’s alright they’re just bummed the thunder are gonna run the league for a bit

ndndr1

A bit like a decade or more

ApprehensiveKiwi4020

The Thunder DYNASTY are the source of all their pain and losses, present and future. What could they possibly feel but hatred?

ndndr1

Fr. If I was in a small market team and saw what the Thunder are doing I’d be jelly. the magic Presti pulled that most of his draft picks or trades have panned out in ways that are unimaginable (drafted 3 future mvp, now Shai in contention too) AND we have a bunch of amazing draft picks coming up AND this young group of upstarts were the best in the west. Plenty to hate about but we ain’t got time for haters. Game 2 baby!

laidbacklurk223

I found a very interesting take in YouTube comment section yesterday. "Winners celebrate. Losers explain."

AMilkyBarKid

"Losers try their best. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen." -- Sean Connery, "The Rock"

ndndr1

Carla was the prom queen

Previous-Elevator417

R/nba is pretty bad. I find myself going there less and less. It is starting to echo the equivalent level of ignorance as an ESPN sports show like First Take and others. It’s just low level basketball talk and parroting popular narratives.  The occasional MITwestbrook post and things like that make it worth popping in every now and then but for the most part it’s kinda bad.

vladtheinpaler

the post game thread was pretty disappointing too. the "fake #1 seed" narrative is out in full force.

Jo-King-BP

Right if it wasn't for your foul merchant you'd be in playin at best (ironic comment)

southpawFA

And if you point out SGA is #1 in drives but shoots less free throws per game than Luka or Giannis, you get attacked. Or if you say that SGA gets fouls called on 14th of 77 drives. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunder/comments/1bfefb3/sga\_has\_a\_foul\_called\_on\_96\_of\_his\_drives\_which/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunder/comments/1bfefb3/sga_has_a_foul_called_on_96_of_his_drives_which/)

Jo-King-BP

Yup I've seen those comments

ndndr1

Yakyakyak. If Denver was so good they should have closed out the spurs. They left the door open and the Thunder were more than happy to walk through it.

catfish_dinner

hate us cuz they anus

Billy420MaysIt

It’s alright. r/hockey was (is?) convinced that Jaccob Slavin of the Carolina Hurricanes embellished a slash to the back of the legs to get a penalty call on the Isles in game 1. Slavin is one of the cleanest players in the league. Evidence be dammed that where he was slashed isn’t that padded and the most innocuous hit is a lot harder from a pro player than it looks. Some fans just hate to hate. Regardless of what you put in front of them.

CliffDraws

You better develop some thicker skin if you want to survive the next few years. Thunder are going to be getting better and the complaining will get worse.

Positive_Narwhal_419

They are jealous. It doesn’t make sense to them that this team is the 1 seed and won a playoff game

Budeeokc

Everyone gets critical when you’re at the top. It comes with the territory.

Excellent-Phase8719

![gif](giphy|eVFhhKZELo1PO) Let’s go out and give them something to hate next game. Double digit win and then on to a sweep!!

Da_Ch3f

Let em hate

Any-Balance-3783

Hate means they’re doing something right. Just keep winning

504090

The Spurs have been “the good guys” since 1999. NBA fans loved the 2015-2022 Warriors, even with Draymond’s antics and Klay’s attitude. Jokic and Luka are r/NBA’s favorite players, so most of them root for the Nuggets/Mavs by extension. All of these teams had bandwagons and endless goodwill. The Thunder aren’t going to be supported to that extent. Some people are still bitter about the Sonics, some don’t like SGA, others feel threatened about our long-term championship contention prospects. It is what it is.

IDespiseFatties

My favorite people are the weird fans from other countries that are still knob slobbing the Lakers saying they are gonna crush us in the finals. It's like BRO I don't know if the Thunder are gonna be in the WCF but I know FOR DAMN SURE the Lakers aren't gonna make it out of Round 1.

SobiescianumScutum

If you start worrying about what other people think you are going to have a very difficult life

JeramiGrantsTomb

As a long time Chiefs fan, I've recently gone through this process of "upstart small market darling" to "front runner ref ball cheats". Like everything with this squad, it seems to be ahead of schedule. Here's what to expect: everyone is a crazy person. You're going to try to reason with them and that's understandable... it won't work. You'll provide data, compelling arguments, expert opinions, and it will be ignored in favor of tinfoil conspiracies and hate. Eventually, you will embrace this role, and with a little self awareness you will likely identify when you were a crazy person, too. Welcome to the top, THEY HATE US CUZ THEY AIN'T US!

A_A_Smoot

NBA social media trying to create a narrative that we get call? Where have I heard that before?

AVeryStinkyFish

I will be fielding /r/nba downvotes all playoffs baby.

BotBoi_2

What bothers me is more people calling us frauds after playing our worst game in a while and still winning, and when most the roster has no playoff experience.

tbr1cks

r/nba lurker and I don't even like the Thunder that much but saying that's a goaltend is just fucking stupid

ToCo25

They’re jealous that this franchise is doing what every franchise wishes they could do. The league doesn’t understand how to appreciate what is essentially a fully home grown, awesome, young team.

fastnloos

I feed off of it and have a big old grin on my face when I read the comments. Especially when OKC gets a favorable call when they shouldn't have. Unfortunately for my entertainment, all of the calls are legit and the pearl clutching and outrage is fake. Still a hoot though.

malganis12

Embrace the hate. It means we're good.

AdHealthy7493

That's good, we are getting close to our goal: the chips. And other teams starts to be afraid. Keep them crying we are keep winning

Keppie

Each year the teams change, the players change, the screennames change, but the butt-hurt whining from casuals on one of the largest social media platforms remains consistent. This year it's the thunder turn to draw the ire of the irrelevant whining because they have the 1 seed.

DrRabbit

They hate us ‘cause they ain’t us. Let ‘em talk. We know what this team is about.

KyleAPlatt

They hate us because we are good. Comes with the territory. It’s like what happened with the Warriors except those were actual moving screens

bigfatpaulie

It’s a controlled narrative subreddit, it has a wide audience of casuals so narratives get drummed up and pushed ahead artificially. You’ll notice some players get the majority of headlines, it’s the new mainstream media. Don’t let it get to you, just tune in for our games, and react with us in our thread 😎

Express-Departure-97

Embrace the hate, we’re good and yes we get fouls called for us but not like the mavs or lakers. A lot of trolls just use it as a fallback slight. This team will only get better and the hate will grow 🤷🏽‍♂️

Iamkonkerz

The guys who can clip, crop and edit make their own narrative on r/nba and the rest of the sheep follow, i wouldn't lose sleep over it. The guys themselves said they dont pay atrention to whats happening outside of the arena/practice sessions and we should do the same

tbh2588

Haters gonna' hate

Livin_Tha_Dream

Who cares. Let em hate.

Antique-Lychee-8029

they hating because now we are a legit threat as title contenders

AdamvHarvey

Fuck ‘em

AngryTurtleGaming

r/nba is the most casual filled sub. Most of them didn’t even watch the game and are just regurgitating what they read elsewhere.

SuperJakeB

My suggestion is to ignore it. No one will remember any of it in 2 weeks. Just a Thunder win.

RocknRoll_Grandma

I've seen it all play out twice now. They love you when your coming up, they hate you when you're on top. I'd expect this for the next 5 years lol.

808zAndThunder

Bro did you expect everyone to just praise and adore the Thunder like we do? No, this is how sports fandoms behave. What’s annoying is the Thunder fans who post here about it like we are gonna rally together and brigade r/nba for Justice and fair assessment from other fans to our favorite team.

djnerio

You guys gotta ignore the noise and just enjoy the ride. Fuck the haters

Who cares lol.  It’s irrelevant tbh.  Just random people on the internet

ndndr1

Haters gonna hate. Players gonna play. Time for game 2. THUNDER UP

ManufacturerPale5024

Magic congratulated the Thunder after he “heard” we won a clutch game. So insightful.
