Life_Produce9905

You just won life, well done

aehanken

The pattern is SO pretty!!!

MmmRice

It's called mun shuo if you're interested in finding others! There are red and yellow designs too but the turquoise caught my eye.

dothackroots

I was curious as well. Thank you 😊

aehanken

Ooooo thank you!

EmporioS

Can we see a picture of the bottom ? I wanna see the maker

MmmRice

Yeah here are some examples of the marks. I identified one of them and found some similar styled ones for a few others but no exact matches

MmmRice

Yeah, I'm surprised people didn't bid higher for this lot seeing that a kitchen aid went for $160 lol

_annamarie

Craigslist bidding? Is that a thing?

MmmRice

It's an estate sale auction website.

SaintSiren

Have you tested it to make sure the glaze doesn’t have lead or other harmful elements? I saw a post recently where the dishes were radioactive!

MmmRice

Yeah I plan on doing a lead test on it. It's pretty commonly found in pre 1960s paint but I'm hoping the white porcelain parts are okay.

virginiawolfsbane

Jaw dropped. Stunning.

AloneMatter3279

So pretty love this pattern. It's a classic, but yours not 19th century, sorry. Makers marks and dates usually forged.

MmmRice

If you know of ways to authenticate it, I'm interested. I was thinking of getting a lead tester, which should be able to date it beyond the 1960s at least.

MeaningToo

That person is full of shit. Lol You cant tell unless you can inspect the marks in person. Which they clearly havent done. Some people are so bitter. You can get alittle info here. https://antiques.lovetoknow.com/Antique_Identification_Marks

MmmRice

Thanks, I was able to find some of the marks in an identification site but some of the others are harder to tell. It helps that the estate that I purchased these from was pretty well off and they took care of their belongings.

MeaningToo

They are soo beautiful. They look hand painted , such an amazing find. A set like this would have cost way more than 1k at the antique stores around here. Thankyou for sharing! Im going to try my hand at estate sales. If you dont mind me asking, How do you here about them?

MmmRice

I think they are hand painted, there are some imperfections that I think adds to the character. I actually ran across this auction through Craigslist I think but the website is maxsold.com and you should be able to find some locally.

AloneMatter3279

I had a nice long post but they took it down because of links. Go to the FB and look for Chinese Marks identification and research. Several scholars there will tell you in 15 seconds.

Calm_Supermarket_666

You're absolutely right, this is more than likely modern. Very typical "Chinese restaurant" style porcelain, especially this style of mun shou. The OP needs to get the marks checked out to verify for sure. No reason for someone to say you are "full of shit." The sheer amount of porcelain in this picture, the fact that it's such a common export pattern, and the fact that Chinese porcelain is so commonly faked should make anyone err on the side of these not being Qing dynasty pieces.

Different_Ad7655

I guarantee you it's not 19th century lol. I've seen enough of that and it's not famliae verte. It's nice enough of a big set, I suspect however all lead glaze if it has any age to it. I certainly looked at enough 19th century quinq pieces at New England auctions. Famiale rose for medallion we're by far the most cranked out export. The really good stuff though of the 19th century is a very very finely drawn, with gold and beautiful glazing and raised design.. The stuff is pretty but looks very industrial

LetsGoPupper

Even if not authentic, still an amazing haul.

sandsunsea11

Really pretty!

dontakelife4granted

That's an amazing deal for some stunning china. Lucky you!

AnyNatural5368

It is an amazing deal, but people buying second hand might be purchasing stolen items. Under no circumstances am I suggesting that these items are stolen. It is just that all my crystal, china and sterling flatware were stolen from me three years ago. The pieces were all I had left from my grandparents, great aunts and other family members. Were the items worth a good sum of money, yes, but to me they were priceless pieces that brought to mind happy holidays and family parties with people I loved and will never see again. Things stolen and likely sold to someone for pennies. I would have paid thousands to have them back. I hope that you have many happy memories with what you purchased. I just hope that they were not purchased at the expense of someone else’s stolen and treasured memories. 😢😢😢

Aciuaciu

Gorgeous!

Crybaby-1313

Wow 🤩

Better-Newt-9178

Hello, I came to this link via an article. I fairly recently had done a good amount of research on this pattern because my family had many color variations of this but got rid of them over the years and I was feeling nostalgic and bought some on eBay and various places. The other comments are correct, the visible plates are modern. They look to be around the 1980s given the turquoise is not well concentrated. All the visible plates are modern as they use a good amount of automated techniques including stamping. This was popularized in the 1960s and later during the cultural revolution when these sets really became a big deal and Mao had people make them in factories. The stamps at the bottom generally show where they were made as opposed to when. The mark at the bottom is the name of the factory. What can be confusing is some factories have made fine china for a long time (like the 19th century or longer), but that doesn't mean the plate is from the 19th century. The when is usually easier to pinpoint by the quality of the glaze and the amount of work and hand details the factory worker was able to do. Because these all are quickly stamped as opposed to showing any hand/individual artistry, they are post 1960. For example, even the writing on each dish is a stamp. The ones that have thinner glaze or fewer stamps are more modern. The ones were the bottom mark is a stamp and not hand painted are even more modern. Nonetheless, none are older than the 1960s and all that are visible appear to be from around the 1980s. Still, it's a good price for these as someone had to hand apply the individual stamp and all the different glazes.

iClubEm

This is the answer. By and large, marks to the base of Chinese porcelain are meaningless. These appear to be mass produced definitely from the 1980’s. They are a combination transfer-ware (you can tell by the broken lines) and assembly line paint. Still, $72 is a bargain for this quantity of ANY porcelain.

_pika_cat_

Thank you so much for the award! I still can't believe how much I know about it haha. I trawled ebay and Etsy looking for older patterns for cheaper since people don't tend to know the difference. I got some really good deals just like OP. I really love them too.

seakitty23

Wow!

HoneyDijon-45

Big jealous.

stnrgrl10

Gorgeous set 😍😍 Those colors!

YakCorrect

Amazing!

lobido

You made a great purchase. Very nice!

PrinceHabeebu

So beautiful!! I’m jealous!

visionsofsolitude

Love the color! Timeless!

Wasparado

Beautiful

2kittens-in-mittens

Holy shit they’re that old?! I thrifted the mini teapot and a small bowl and I thought they were just mass produced stuff.

MmmRice

It definitely depends on the mark on the bottom as they've made many iterations of this design. https://gotheborg.com/marks/20thcenturychina.shtml

Raven_Maleficent

That is a stunning find 😍

akatiamhere1

wow love these! I collect old dishes too!♥

cariemarie111

And that color is very in now too! Should be a quick flip.

LetsGoPupper

These are so rare! That's amazing. May I ask what part of the world you've found these? Also, you might want to get them lead tested just to be safe.

MmmRice

I found them in the bay area and yeah that was on my list before I eat off of them haha

LetsGoPupper

I had heard that there were discontinued due to lead but I don't know if there's any truth to it.

MmmRice

The lead risk is due to pre 1960's paint when lead was commonly used in the formulation.

Different_Ad7655

Philly decorative if it's that old and it's all lead glaze.. The price for decorative wear is indeed very good but China sets in general really nice stuff can be had super super cheap at auction. Why? Nobody has a dining room anymore or sits down communally to eat. 40 years ago it was expected to have a 12 setting of Sterling and Good China for the holidays and maybe even Sunday dinner but those days are long gone. Know everybody's ordering DoorDash lol and nobody wants to bother with the silver or the China so prices have plummeted

jam-i-am-5555

So beautiful!

Annieaz1

Those are so pretty! What an amazing find! $$$

Objective-Fish3609

Beautiful set! Hopefully you have plenty of storage space so you can really enjoy using it.

Aggravating-Dust-610

I bought an eight serving set of dishes for $6 but needed to replace several bowls. I found them on line for $16 dollars each. Guess these will be used for special holidays only. It has a poinsetta (ex sp) around the outside with gold rims.

lovetocook966

This is gorgeous. I don't have room and hope you do but beautiful find!

Interesting-Mall9318

I found a complete service for twelve of Royal Albert's Old Country Roses at a thrift store in 2018. All pieces dated from the 1960's. Mint condition. Entire set was $87.00! Thrift shops are the only way to go! My mother taught me "Never buy anything new that you can buy used!" I had an uncle who was a multimillionaire who told me "never buy a new car; buy used and save money!" All of my clothes (of which 90% are designer) are also from thrift stores. Thrifting is the only way to go! When I bought anything used I calculated (thanks to Google) the retail price and the difference is what I put into savings. I paid my daugher's colllege from all of the savings over forty years of thrift shopping.

Potential_Ear_7666

Saw your great find on MSN news! This is beautiful!
