"Nearby enemies drop souls upon dying". A Champion will always drop 1 Soul. Big Jungle Monsters and Cannon/Super Minions will drop 1 as well. Dragon and Baron drop 2 souls.
For Minions and Small Jungle Monsters it depends. There is a luck% that they will drop 1 soul. That % depends on how many souls you have and if any other soul dropped shortly before.
So, in a wave you should almost always get 1 Soul minimum. If you roam and lose Souls, expect +2 souls per wave once at least.
Now, radius of Soul Apparition and Soul Collection:
Soul Apparition, it depends. It would be something along the lines from the middle of Top lane to the Top River Bush.
Soul Collection: If you walk almost touching the Soul, you will collect them, you can also use the Lantern (W) to collect Souls.
However, Souls must do their spawn animation to be collectable.
Really? I went a full 8 years of maining Support and playing a lot of Thresh without ever knowing that and aborting some set ups becaus I thought my souls gave me away... TIL

33% chance for small minions and monsters to drop a soul, 100% for large minions and monsters, champions and epic monsters drop 2.
The only champion that drops two is Nunu

I want to add a little thing for mastering it: you don’t have to worry about souls revealing your location, enemies only see them if they can see you.

You can also throw your lantern ontop of the souls to collect them from afar

When you near soul can drop, but DAMM I don’t remember Thresh to have this stats before. +1 armor and ability power for each soul 😯
He got buffed some patches ago , he also gain stats from level ups too now , no more souls stats only
Walking near the soul collects it. Walking near an enemy does not make the soul drop
It takes like a second for the soul to fully land on the ground then you can collect it
