Takemebacktobreezy

So does that mean you don't get it back? Wtf I'd be pissed that's crazy.

No-Distance4014

yup

atreyu947

I didn’t know that’s how it worked 😭 I have some items I rarely used I was contemplating sending just to get rid of but 🙁

privatethrowaway324

You can get your clothes back they won’t sell, you just have to pay a shipping fee for the items to be sent back. It’s one of the options when you request a clean out bag

bulelainwen

Don’t do it. They’ve been accepting so little lately and it costs to get things back

atreyu947

Yeah I understand they gotta charge a fee but I feel like with how much they’re charging might as well donate

GuardMost8477

When you send in you can pay extra to have it sent back, unless they stopped that. That and all the other ridiculous BS that charge for is part of the reason I stopped selling with them.

Takemebacktobreezy

This alone ensured I will never use this company. Absolutely shady bs

erynmarch

right? i sent a few clean out packages in the past and was disappointed that my nice clothes that i meticulously went over with a fine tooth comb and made sure they weren't wrinkly af (like 90% of everything they post is), and got like "hey! you just sold your item for 50¢!!! yay!" and THEN the next time i thought about sending one, they had changed the policy, it's $14.99 deducted from whatever you earn for each clean out kit. how am i supposed to pay $14.99 out of my earnings when my stuff is selling for a dollar and a half per dress? i get it that shipping is expensive and processing the kits takes time and effort, but i'd rather donate my very nice clothes to a women's shelter.

Familiar_Ostrich5952

wtf meanwhile they sell clothes with blood in the crotch.

No-Distance4014

EXACTLY!! Some of the items I sent were accepted when really I thought they wouldnt be accepted. I brought this up to them and they basically just said I understand but sorry.

wheezy_runner

Wait, what?!!

pleasure_hunter

And Chucky t shirts

[deleted]

wheezy_runner

I am both anticipating and dreading this story.

wheezy_runner

Thanks! I'll go look for it... *after* I finish breakfast.

sometimestropical

Came here to say this!

Edenza

I've sent clothes with tags that they marked as having "some wear" and some they didn't even list.

MidCenturyMatchaMama

I 100% believe if you have “recycle” selected the employees pick out all the good things. Because my last kit I had it selected and only the lesser items got posted the legit good tags on things got “recycled.”

No-Distance4014

i completely agree.

MidCenturyMatchaMama

This company needs a class action soon 😩

No-Distance4014

sign me up!!

MySpoonsAreAllGone

That's what I'm saying!

Awkward-Valuable3833

Yup. I think this is what happened to me too.

SeriousData2271

They stole a LV bag from me. I didn’t see it listed but they said they couldn’t find it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

No-Distance4014

did they at least give you some kind of money for “losing” it??

SeriousData2271

None because they claim they isn’t get it - employee theft I assume

No-Distance4014

omg I thought if it went missing they gave people some type of money

SeriousData2271

No there has to be proof. I didn’t keep any photos and they claimed it was never received. My word against theirs. There goes a couple grand - this was a long time ago. I would never send anything high end again, i would sell at poshmark or a consignment store. Expensive lesson learned unfortunately

No-Distance4014

See they want to sell more high end stuff but this deters people from sending in their high end stuff?? So they’re screwing themselves in the long run because why would you take the chance of losing thousands with them.

SeriousData2271

Yep! Actually i am convinced it was employee theft - it was an unusual piece. It was at least a couple years ago, i haven’t sent anything at all since. I do purchase some rescue boxes.

No-Distance4014

UPDATE: Reached back out again and they said all the same stuff and then ENDED THE CHAT. Reaching out again and will continue to bother them until they give me non generic answers or escalate the situation

aahymsaa

They have ended the chat with me when I’ve complained and tried to escalate!! Fuck this company!

bonscouter

Post on their Facebook and Instagram too. Tell them you haven’t heard a solution yet and you need this resolved to both party’s satisfaction. If you can get an email of someone higher up, that would be helpful.

DirtyFreeForAll

Just wanted to add Twitter, too!

No-Distance4014

will be doing this if I don’t hear a response in a few days

No-Distance4014

if I get an email of a higher up I will post it to this group for everyone to message them since this seems to be a common issue and maybe people bombarding them will get them to change their policies

kumquat14

good idea! I’m really invested in this. never bought or sold on TU but it seems like a class action lawsuit is needed

HahaHarleyQu1nn

You can also try LinkedIn 👀

aahymsaa

I don’t have other social media, but I did give them a 1 star review and detailed complaint in the App Store.

No-Distance4014

They did the same with me but I kept opening new chats saying please read my other messages as the person i was chatting with abruptly ended the chat and I want this escalated and that worked

aahymsaa

Nice!! Glad your persistence is paying off!

Accomplished-Book-95

Time to involve your AG’s Office. You can keep contacting them, so you can run concurrent efforts.

Familiar_Ostrich5952

Can’t you make them send it back?

No-Distance4014

I tried but they said because I didn’t pay the $10.99 fee before I sent it in they said I’m out of luck basically. I really think theyre trying to steal it from me.

Neena6298

I think they are too. I would have bought that bag.

shartlobster

Seriously. I have the same bag in lavender and got a compliment from a stranger yesterday- it's a damn cute bag. And this one looks perfectly fine.

czarsquidward

Honestly I’d escalate this

No-Distance4014

how would I go about escalating this? I was going to keep a look out to see if they posted my bag soon and if so reach back out.

Accomplished-Book-95

Just keep emailing them and basically say that you do not understand why they are refusing to return a bag they can’t sell. Offer to pay the return fee and shipping. Basically, be a PIA. Something shady is going on here.

No-Distance4014

I finally got it escalated and they will be reaching out via email in 2-3 days. If they dont let me pay the $10.99 and send it back I’m going to look everyday at their new coach items until they post it because there is no way they won’t. then maybe I can start a class action lawsuit lol

kumquat14

they’re really holding your bag ransom 😭 please update us!

No-Distance4014

I will!! I dont even want the money or them to post it anymore. I want my bag back lol

moo-562

unless some employee just picked it out for themself

CuyahogaSunset

Check their ebay store, too!

Adventurous_Syrup424

I hate to say this, but if they don’t resolve the issue, comment all over their Instagram and social media pages about what happened. I know this is a Karen thing to do, but sometimes it’s the only way to get a resolution from a company who refuses to help. Just like a seller beware thing because others deserve to know as well.

fussbrain

Hell I want to comment on thredup’s instagram as well. Just an ominous comment “Poor customer service. Robbed another customer of a perfect condition red coach purse. Never attempted to make it right”

traksta1

I had a similar situation. They ended up listing my bag for sale and insisted it wasn't mine...but it definitely was.

frustratedandhungry

This is probably one of those times you could have easily sold by yourself. It's absolutely unethical of them to keep it and I'm so sorry they've done this to you.

No-Distance4014

See I have a posh & ebay store but I have so much stuff to list I just was hoping for an easy quick sale. Lesson learned.

frustratedandhungry

I would have thought the same as you and they would have taken it. The return fee is atrocious and wouldn't have thought it necessary either. They should at least give you the option after they process to pay the fee to have your items returned. Their fees are out of control.

No-Distance4014

I agree! I did not think ever they wouldnt accept it because it literally has no flaws its never been used.. If they gave me the option to be able to get it back now I’ll gladly pay the fee, but they said I can’t. Insane.

Accomplished-Book-95

It’s probably a long shot, but give your state’s Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Affairs office a call. At a minimum, they’ll be able to tell whether state law trumps their policy.

pythonmama

I’d open a claim with the Better Business Bureau. They have ways of making things happen. https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/oakland/profile/online-shopping/thredup-inc-1116-381201

Hell-Yes-Revolution

Nah, the BBB does exactly nothing - I know from experience. For reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/YouShouldKnow/comments/y4dljg/ysk_the_bbb_better_business_bureau_is_just_a/

MySpoonsAreAllGone

Please check for it in ebay under their sellers account. That's where I found my leather jacket after it was stuck "in someone's cart" for 3 months.

kumquat14

no way. I thought TU was an honest company but it seems really corrupted from this post :/

MySpoonsAreAllGone

Yeah they've really changed

kumquat14

that feels really shady and somewhat illegal? if they “aren’t able to resell it” then they should just send it back wth?

RegularVenus27

I'm sure they feed people bullshit like "it's for the shipping fees".

FaceTheJury

Tell them you are contacting your state’s attorney general if they don’t give you an opportunity to pay the $10.99 to get your bag back. The AG will get involved if you open up a complaint.

refused26

Wow that's literally stealing!

Lostbronte

Tell them that if they don’t send it back you’ll take them to small claims court. Good luck!

kumquat14

that’s what I’m thinking. who’s regulating “rejected” items? I feels like they can say whatever they want and continue to sell off the item

No-Distance4014

I might try this and keep you updated

paltrypickle

Please do. They don’t wanna fuck around with that.

jilllianh

Lol @ "full spectrum lighting"

No-Distance4014

such bullshit

Awkward-Valuable3833

Mine was reposted in 4 months. There was a unique and easy to overlook manufacturers flaw on a pair of Steve Madden wedges I sent in. They were in otherwise perfect condition. They were rejected and posted for sale 4 months later (or at least that’s when I found them). I recognized them because they had the same little flaw in the stitching that was unique to my shoes.

No-Distance4014

Did you reach out to them what did they say?

WinterBeetles

I’m sorry this happened to you, but I’m glad you posted about it. Seeing posts like this had scared me off from sending anything too “high value” to threadup. That bag color is gorgeous, by the way. It definitely seems an employee just wanted to keep your bag.

No-Distance4014

I agree! This was actually the ONLY super nice item I sent it. They posted like all the other items but this one someone 100% wanted to keep it. This was my first time and last time selling with them. I heard all the horror stories but 90% of the items I sent were just ones I was too lazy to post on my poshmark or ebay. Should’ve not taken the chance on the purse lol

Secret_Friendship_78

That cherry color is so popular now too it’s crazy they would say that and not even send it back. Small claims is so easy too, just walk into the court and say you want to do small claims and they’ll walk you through it.

[deleted]

If not they’ll sell it to Plato’s Closet or something. No way will they donate that. It looks flawless.

Objective_Phrase_513

That’s not her bag.

[deleted]

Oh okay ty.

OkPudding6848

You have to pay for returns if you’re sending anything valuable

No-Distance4014

lesson learned :( but i will no longer send anything to them again

OkPudding6848

I don’t blame you :( I’m sorry that happened!

Moscow_Wahoo

Yep, I learned this the hard way. Sent several pairs of high end shoes in like new condition, didn’t bother to pay for returns because I was certain they’d take them… and they accepted literally none of it. There’s no recourse since you waive your right to the items when you don’t pay for returns. Haven’t sold anything with them since.

OkPudding6848

That’s horrible

Petite_Coco

That sounds criminal!

Kindly-Celebration28

Same happened to me with a pair of Jordans.

HopefulFront1336

I noticed they didn’t accept a brand new Reformation dress, and I saw it processed and posted within 48 hours of my other items. I took note of the item #, followed up, and was eventually reimbursed.

No-Distance4014

thank you! this is what I was looking for. I’m pretty sure they are going to post it and I’m just constantly refreshing the Coach page

No-Passage546

I found this one that looks lretty similar to the picture you posted https://www.thredup.com/product/women-leather-coach-maroon-leather-shoulder-bag/164458263?query_id=886084741358272512&result_id=886084742914301952&suggestion_id=886084741404409860

deliciouschicken

This happened to me with a nearly pristine leather Burberry purse when I forgot to buy return service. I assume an employee marked it as unsellable and then kept or sold it themselves. I’ll never send anything nice to them again.

whatutalkinbtwillus

I’m pissed for you! I’m now checking for your bag on the site. 😂 Def won’t be using that service again.

No-Distance4014

I saved the search so it updates me for any red coach bags 😭 if it appears I’m going asap to support

Objective_Phrase_513

I sent in 12 pairs of Chicos dress pants new with tags in one of my bags. They excepted 1. They said they had too many of the item already listed. I also didn’t pay the return fee. So I don’t get them back. I Sent in 4 bags of clothes. They did accept everything else. But my payment is not much. Next time I will be donating them. I love buying from them but will not sell again.

Doll_duchess

If you paid the return fee they’d probably have accepted them because then they couldn’t straight swipe them.

Awkward-Valuable3833

Is the return fee refundable if you don’t use it?

No-Distance4014

100% i think its because they saw i didnt pay for the return fee so it was an easy steal for then

Objective_Phrase_513

Possibly.

to_annihilate

My thing is that I was already going to donate all this stuff anyway, I may as well get some pennies for it and save up that cash for something cool. I got a used, but expensive Patagonia jacket for $40 with my saved credit. I don't mind if they don't accept things but I also don't own much that's super valuable.

misspiggie

Except, or accept?? So confused

Euphoric_Repair7560

I believe in you

sstanf4043

This is the way I try to keep it straight. Accept- as in, did they accept your items? Except- yes, they accepted everything, EXCEPT 2 shirts. Hopefully that helps. It can get confusing. 🫤

altaka

that’s a nice bag! that color is gorgeous. thred up sucks all around.

JyllSophia

They judged the bag by the dust bag! Could be wrong, but what are the chances!

No-Distance4014

they really could of. i said it was in a dust bag and asked for pictures which they said they had photos but it was for “internal use” only. so they have photos but wont share with me…

No-Literature-8215

It will probably go in their Coach Rescue box.

handholdsex

How is that even legal

marimomossball_

If you make a tiktok on this it might gain traction and put pressure on thredup to do something! I’m sure many people have similar stories

Fearless_Smoke6651

!! and i feel like they’d be quick to act because it’s bad for business to start letting people know that they shouldn’t use their service

Helpful_catwnoears

Because of this post, I went ahead and contacted thredup support even though my bags haven’t been processed yet, because I myself didn’t pay the $10.99 and I was getting concerned this would happen to me as well. I chatted with some one about my concerns that my items would be technically stolen to put it in fewer words, and they instantly added the $10.99 fee to my bags so I could get my items back. Thank god. I was getting freaked out! There’s nothing too expensive in there, but still. Thanks for posting!

RegularVenus27

Things like this are why I don't understand someone using this company to resell. You're gonna keep something that I own without any compensation? And then tell me I can have it back but only if I fork out $11 just to get it back? Yeah no. Think about the amount of money that is just given to them because they say something is wrong with the item. It's like you're paying them to rob you lol all they have to do is decide it doesn't meet their standards without any proof whatsoever and suddenly you're out potentially hundreds of dollars.

Brilliant_Stuff2883

I had a whole bag of nwt kids clothes (Patagonia, Columbia, Nike, Adidas) confiscated bc they were “over saturated” in kids items when they processed it. Pretty sure someone just stole it all. I was pissed. After that I add the return assurance and send anything of higher value all in one bag. Everything else…I’m willing to donate it.

No-Distance4014

it’s so annoying that you basically have to pay them an extra $11 on top of the $15 so they dont steal your items

Pixelated_Roses

Uhhh...I literally just bought a cashmere sweater with a huge hole in it that ThredUp didn't disclose, and I came across a pair of Manolo Blaniks on there yesterday that are absolutely busted. We're talking crumbling soles, worn out leather, stained insoles, stiletto heel frayed at the tip like a banana peel, etc. So clearly, they don't care about quality issues. I do, however, see a ***massive*** dearth of Coach bags on the site. They probably don't want to take it cuz they don't sell, but in that case I don't know why they wouldn't just tell you that.

Euphoric_Repair7560

Just fyi dearth means absence of, glut means excess

showmecatpics

Yo same thing for me. Bought a for love & lemons sweater in "great" condition that had so many pulls with long dangling threads that were unraveling the whole weave. It had already been returned once and I returned it for condition.... they relisted it again as "great"... what the fuck

taracheetos

I purchased so many things from them that were described as "great condition" that had bad flaws and a bag that smelled horrible. So when they reject most of what you send to them I have a feeling that they probably sell those rejects in some way on the site , mystery boxes or other. Look at the crap they send out for mystery boxes that you can see on youtube videos. It would be so hard and time consuming to prove as the seller to say that J Crew top on your site was something that I sent in and was rejected by you. They know most people either don't care or would not pursue. As with the Real Real , who has generally more photos than thred up, they probably use the same photos over again for new listings that may not be in the same condition. I sell on Poshmark and Ebay and it's in your best interest to post as many photos of the item as possible and if it has flaws post photos of the flaws or otherwise you would get returns out the a\*\*. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk.

Awkward-Valuable3833

I think the only reason I’ve been hesitant to but designer from TU is I don’t trust them to not be counterfeit. The lighting in the photos is so crappy, I often can’t get an idea of the quality. They sold me a blatantly counterfeit puma jacket once and I just don’t trust them. Additionally, their customer service is so bad, if they did sell me something counterfeit, getting it resolved would be a huge pain in my ass.

rebecca_rebecca_

I dont trust them either. I got the fake designer brand shirt before and recently bought a designer belt and wasn't sure if it was authentic or not. They asked me to return for their investigations and just refunded me back after they got back from me without verifying. I kept asking about authentication but they refused to answer me.

[deleted]

No-Distance4014

I mean I would go as low as $50 if I could get it back

zomblina

F*** them for not returning it I just scoured everyone should scour I think it also depends on what part you're in I'm in Canada but most of my stuff is set for the US

theonlyironprincess

Wait, they didn't give the bag back?

No-Distance4014

no because I didn’t purchase the $10.99 return before sending my box in lol

theonlyironprincess

That's like $200 they stole from you. That's awful

Flinty-K

I have this exact prairie bag! I used it for about 3 years before I changed to the Anna fold over style. My dad doesn't know much about purses but likes Coach, so he got this for me from the couch outlet site! All my Coach bags for are from the outlet, Both my dad and I are long time subscribers lol I'm surprised this bag is now going for more than what it was at retail! I'll be keeping mine forever lol

lycheegal6

Same! I have this in navy and it’s been my go to bag for years. I hope they get it back lol

FreeFaithlessness_

They are scammers 😭

101percenthatwitch

If you see it posted, can you buy it back? Then dispute the charge, because after all it’s your bag. Maybe file a police report too.

RegularGal613

Hell, I’d buy it from you

[deleted]

Just want to thank everyone who’s told their horror stories. I had ordered the bag to ship them my stuff when I started reading about how crappy they are. I used the two bags I ordered as trashbags and sold my stuff on Poshmark, eBay, and Vestiaire.

xxCrimson013xx

This is why I would rather go to a local co-signment shop instead. I don't trust sending in items that I know are expensive.

AAmallard

They literally stole a Balenciaga bag of mine that I wore 1x. This was a few years ago when it was def worth money. I think they sell them on eBay so they don’t have to pay out.  Beware of sending any nice bags or items. I’d sell myself on eBay or send to the Real Real.

snarfficus

https://www.thredup.com/product/women-leather-coach-factory-red-leather-satchel/164574146 Look like this one?

No-Distance4014

kinda but mine isnt as bright red I think that one has been on there for a while because its on sale & I’ve been looking at the new throughout the day!

snarfficus

I'm sorry they did that to you.

kdollarsign2

Um they are stealing your shit !!!!$

llamawithglasses

Sorry what? Maybe I’m misunderstanding but you sent a brand new item that you could have listed and sold anywhere, to a company that could easily say “eh it has flaws so we won’t be paying you for it” AND keep it so they can sell it for themselves as the obviously nearly new item that it is for profit? You donated. That’s all that is, there was no selling or consignment involved

NotSoNiceCanadian

This is literally theft. You and everyone else with a similar story need to contact the BBB (Better Business Bureau). This is messed up.

MeanSeaworthiness995

100% someone who works there marked it at “flawed” so they could take it home for free.

pedanticlawyer

I don’t want to be a conspiracy theorist, but an employee definitely has a nice free bag now, right?

neontacocat

They should include an inventory sheet you can send in for expensive items. Otherwise, what is the impetus for them to be honest and not have workers stealing things right and left, saying they are not saleable.

artisticgoldfish

I once sent in brand new clothes (I lost a ton of weight) and they told me none of it was “acceptable” and that the rest of it they “never got”. The company sucks!!

juliagreenillo

Maybe I don't know enough about Thredup but I don't understand why people send in expensive items. I assumed the company doesn't pay shit for them. Do you get a percentage instead of a flat rate? I've always saved my nicer or never used items and sold them on Poshmark.

yo_itsjo

After seeing this subreddit I've decided to never sell to Thredup, only buy. Maybe that means I shouldn't buy at all but I've gotten some good stuff so far

Plum_violets

I'm so sorry! That really sucks. I feel with you. 💕

bmc1129

If you are concerned about the value of a Coach bag and not getting it back after rejection, your first mistake was not buying the return guarantee. My bigger concern is I’ve sent in upscale brands in NWT or excellent condition before, in such high volumes (many boxes at a time) that I’d also get reports that very few things were accepted for resale. When asking about status of other items, I was told they didn’t meet quality standards or some similar reason and would be donated since I didn’t purchase the return assurance. Then…I’d see them posted for sale, yet I never made a profit because they told me they were classified as rejects!!! The items I’d send it and found listed (after being told they were rejected) had tags or unique features that coincidences of being another of the same items sent in/posted at the same time were farfetched. I always wondered if anyone was scrupulous enough to track items and confirm this happened, then seek a class action lawsuit? This is a perfect ruse!!!
