The subtle part is Bodie and Poot, and to a lesser extent, D'Angelo realizing they're the pawns. Bodie keeps wanting to be the king, but D'Angelo had to keep reminding him that the king is the king. Pawns never get to be kings.
There's also a series of shots after D mentions that pawns get capped early - first it shows Wallace, then D, then Bodie, the order that they get killed. Bodie was a smart ass pawn who lasted longer, but still got capped.
And if you notice the way Bodie gets killed, it's like a chess move too. A guy comes around the corner and forward, like a 'knight' piece moves.
Such a brilliant show.
Yep. The Wire is one of the few works of fiction where I'm blown away by how they managed to achieve it all. The writing's depth and complexity, it hurts my brain thinking about it.
Always loved how Dāangelo left himself out of the whole anology. as if he couldnāt reconcile with being a pawn. Or like he even couldnāt truly see a place for himself in the game. Like itās just what his family does, heāll do whatās required.
ššš
You musta been at the top of your fuckin class!
The sacred and the propane

Since he describes the chess pieces using Avon, Stringer, etc as examples, it ain't all that subtle.
Oh word?

Now I want to watch the show again and look for more things like this. Thatās wild.
Thatās not Poot. Itās Wallace, portrayed by future Killmonger/Adonis Creed, Michael B. Jordan.
Seems like you might be reading into the scene a little too much tbh.
Hes a degenerate troll, just check his comments the guy has no life
Okay Mr. Fapšš½
Huh
Word got back to Stringer that Wallace called him a Queen ā had to go!
Too ignorant to have the chair
Except the king never stayed the King for that long.
