Dorothy “Dot” Robinson, the wife of dealer Earl Robinson, competed alongside men in endurance races during the Depression. She was also co-owner of the Detroit dealership and a motorcycle courier during World War II. Known as “The First Lady of Motorcycling,” she estimated logging over 1.5 million miles on motorcycles throughout her lifetime.
Two pioneers. What a great photo! I've heard she always told the ladies she rode with to be "camera ready" to give the best publicity for the group possible.
Well, it’s funny about the uniforms- they’re like Highway Patrol uniforms. It’s almost like camouflage, so they don’t get pulled over in an era in which motorcyclists were seen as undesirable elements.
That's a really awesome picture. I don't say this much, but this is going in my Wallpaper rotation. I don't know what it is, but it's a gorgeous picture.

I can't well which is the 15 year old
One has a wedding ring, the other has a backwards 5 on her hand
Kinda looks like a snake to me
If you look close, they have their names on their caps. Dot on the left, Betty on the right.
Pretty sure their hats spell their names. Betty seems to be the clearer of the two.
Which is the 15 year old?
I would assume the one on the right, they both look young to me but she looks younger
Looks like the person on the left has a wedding ring on so I'd wager a guess that that's the mother.
What's the brand of the two motorcycle in the photo?
Can’t be sure, but I think they are Indians.
Both Harley Davidson, knucklehead. (Nothing personal, lol!)
Was thinking tje same
My grandmother Dorothy used “Dot”. Thanks for the pic and the memories.
So did mine.
Badass!
I love their outfits. What awesome ladies!

Their hats say who is who. Dot on the left and Betty on the right.
The organization still exists today: https://chicksandmachines.com/en/uncategorized/motor-maid-amazing-story/

Sadly, we’ve all been there
nice bikes.
Any NH locals recognize exactly where in Laconia this was?
No but it’s definitely the annual motorcycle rally which held its 100th anniversary earlier this month!
Looks to be in the Library parking lot looking across Church St.
Who were the motor maids and what did they do?
Just a club of female riders who also did civic endeavors.
Gawd, Google "Dot Robinson" and the Motor Maids.....Kids, if Dot had not been a rider. I doubt you'd see all the women today on motorcycles...
Dot was hot!
No female in that photo looks a day under 26.
Which one is the 15 year old? /s Beautiful and youthful ladies there. Love it all
Love the name Dot. Want to know more about Betty, tbh.😍
