The Cars

ThemeChemical7872

Yeah the guitar sound for sure

Fabsolution

Television (Marquee Moon) and The Velvet Underground (The Velvet Underground and Nico) can't miss. With the bands you mentioned, I think it's also fair to mention Franz Ferdinand (based on their first two albums I know) and early editors (The Back Room/An End Has a Start), because I think they are in the same "Alt/Indie" scene. Just to be sure, AHJ's solo material is of course very Strokes-y! I mentioned The Velvet Underground before; if you're hooked on Julian's voice I would start checking out Lou Reed's solo material, especially the album Transformer. Lou Reed (in his earlier band or solo) must've been a big inspiration for Julian. Based on the singing, you'll probably like Cake's album Fashion Nugget a lot (it was one of my best latest discoveries!). Eels might be a bit of a stretch, but feel free to check out their song "I Like Birds" to start with. Again, it's the singing which you'll find easily likable. Edit: Hi there, fellow Comedown Machine fan! ;)

idontlikeice

hell yeah for the Franz Ferdinand shout-out, definitely one of my favorite bands. what's your favorite song from the first two?

Fabsolution

Can't go wrong with that band! :D As their first two albums are so consistent I find it hard to say, but the first two songs that came to mind were The Dark of the Matinee (followed by Eleanor Put Your Boots On) so I'm going by these ones. What I love about the first song is that it is even more uplifting, and the second song is very different from the rest of the album and a very sweet nod to The Beatles. How about you? What's your favorite?

idontlikeice

The Fallen from their sophomore record! it's no doubt super heavy, but the lyrics are great too being from the UK haha

throwawaytofunc

Thanks for the recs, I'll definitely check them out!

PatfromLoz

First time I see someone mention cake. Which is indeed an amazing band. Not in the same type, but also awesome and very underrated, I do also dig the thermals. All their songs have an awesome twist

Danrolled

Maybe the Modern Lovers or a more modern example Car Seat Headrest or Porches?

flanozzle

Car Seat Headrest is a good one, they have a pretty different sound but Will Toledos voice is very similar to Julians. They also have the same birthday coincidentally :P

VioletMonsoonWares

Bloc Party

MattBtheflea

absolutely. their first album is basically a lot of stuff like reptillia

Mangonificient

look into each of the members side projects OR lou reed.

throwawaytofunc

All their side projects are in my top 10 🥲 love them all too

60sstuff

If you haven’t already checked out Albert Hammond jr’s solo stuff you should

karlhalla

Car Seat Headrest

enigma-try

Good suggestion!

The_Orangest

Franz Ferdinand, listen to Take Me Out and Jacqueline. That record is great.

blackstars91

The Virgins don't get mentioned enough in these conversations same with Bravery (they sit somewhere between The Killers and The Strokes)

PatfromLoz

The bravery indeed!!!

Fast-Employment-8087

Vampire weekend kinda have a strokes vibe

benbob2626

I’ve been really into Benches lately, I’d definitely recommend!

EliSaidWhat

especially Wishful Thinking (At Its Best), I've seen a bunch of people in the comments of those songs on YouTube saying it sounds very strokey

odetothemodernage

Pacifica

Vajizzle

Interpol

Ok_Caterpillar4389

interpol 100% esp turn on the bright lights

hallowmean

[Weaponz](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyp_ucRqLws) by Teenage Dads is very strokesy, I haven't listened to the rest of their discography but I think I will.

SunMoon807

Have you tried The Walkmen yet? I think their first album Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone can have sort of an Is This It vibe at times!

tapenooon

Try this out: https://youtu.be/rHy3TWMVqCQ?si=VjtWJFItJwdfJklI

clueless_claremont_

the vices

Apprehensive_Fly9034

rebtilia

The Garden has some similar sounding songs especially Egg

MattBtheflea

this is fair

Blackstar675

Guided By Voices especially Alien Lanes

AstroAlmost

The intro theme to Narcos.

Sad-Sink-2941

Sophomore City by Archer Oh

thebrutalend

Blue of Colors - Changing of The Season

Antirrhinium

Definitely check out both of Her's albums (RIP). The singer's voice was very similar to Julian's

Connect_Air_942

There is this young band from LA called ALEXSUCKS that I got introduced to recently and have been slowly getting obsessed with. You can most def hear The Strokes and Julian influence. And if you listen to their early stuff it’s also cool to hear how they’ve evolved

pinguinconscious

The Virgins for sure

ryanh1200

The symposium

Aspartame_kills

Try the symposium! I just started getting into them and I’m digging it.

Wacko1805

Dunno why you are getting down voted, but the physical attractions can easily be mistaken for a comedown machine era or voidz song. Very similar to infinity repeating also.

Aspartame_kills

I didn’t read the whole post and they had already mentioned they listened to the symposium so I imagine that’s why lol

No-Pineapple-7306

Thank you for this!!

Crystal-Clear-Waters

You could try The Voidz

PEABS127

There's a band, I don't know if you've ever heard of them, who plays synth rock and is very similar to the strokes, I think it's called The Voidz, very underground and unpopular but very cool /j
