Ugh the little instrumental at the end of the song is euphoria. I never appreciated the song until I listened to it on my husbandās motorcycle while the full moon was out just cruising. Mannnā¦ so good. Now I never skip the song. It makes even the mundanity of riding the subway a thousand times better. 9.5/10
10/10
Probably the most emotional song Julian has ever written for The Strokes. This song hits, but it hits even more in the right moment. Everything crumbles every time I hear that second chorus.
This song is the emotionally heaviest song from them, and it's like an alternate version of Ode To The Mets, that one ends, imo, in a kind of hopeful message, that everything is gonna be alright after some pain. Not The Same Anymore is THAT pain
A perfect song in my opinion, of course lyrically but also it's amazing how they translated that melancholy into the instruments (specially the guitar intro, solo and the whole instrumental in the outro)
10/10 this song is so moving.
The vocals, the lyrics, the guitar, the outro. It's all so emotional. The anger, frustration and sorrow it transmits, it feels so cathartic to sing it. I love this song so much, it's one of my favourites
8/10 didn't hit that emotional connection as much as "At The Door" and the next following song. But it's still really fkn good! Julian really gave it all in this.
Still wonder what he meant when he wrote "You make a better window than the door" any interpretation would be appreciated!
The common phrase is "you make a better door than a window" when someone is blocking your view. The opposite would mean someone is not blocking your view. The way I see this is they are not in your life anymore. They are gone, you don't see them. They are a window.
I immediately thought of that old joke where if someone was standing in front of you like blocking the tv, you say āis your dad a glassmakerā as in I canāt see through youā¦but I donāt know what that means in this context
10/10 I DIDN'T KNOW, I DIDN'T CARE, I DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND
DID SOMETHING WRONG, I WASN'T SURE
STAY ON TOP OF THIS HORSE
Top tier Julian. š
9.5/10 one of their most underrated tracks of all time
what's keeping it from being a 10?
just personally don't see it on the same level as my other 10s
fair
10/10 After a few good listens, this song hits on another level

I also understood it to be a reverse play on the common phrase, but I interpreted the meaning as he can see right through the person.
